xxxNew traditions flourished at Hogwarts, and old ones died hard. For months now it had become a habit for Maggie Hawkins and her friend June Selwyn to walk the Hogwarts grounds together, updating one another on hectic lives and fun-filled weekends. Though they saw each other quite often, it was awfully easy to lose track of who did what, when, how, all that fun stuff. It was good to take a walk down the side of Hogwarts, even in the snow. Now, trudging through powdery snow and sneezing as flurries landed on a rosy, frost-nipped nose, Maggie stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jacket. It was no secret that she valued fashion over function, as she'd state more than once over and over and over again, and Maggie certainly held the standard true. Clad in leggings, a jean skirt reaching her knees, and a sweater and cardigan, she wasn't exactly dressed for winter weather. Of course, the fuzzy white earmuffs she sported atop her head did help. With the cold, not hearing--June's muffled voice was reaching her all too slow and the amount of times Maggie had to shout "WHAT" was truly something to behold.

Still, she valued moments like these as an important centerpiece for their friendship, a stepping stone to broader horizons and brighter pastures. Greener grass, and all that literature buff nonsense.

"Cold as a bitch, man," Maggie puffed out, watching the breath before her materialize in front of her face like a taunting billow of smoke, curling around her figure as if to boast its place in the world. "Did I tell you about the total mess I found in the boys dorm yet, though? Blue dye all over the freaking bathroom floor. My money's on McCoire and his slimy little clique, I mean, he's got blue hair now, but I can't prove it," she paused to stick her tongue out into the frigid air, catching a lone snowflake on the tip and glancing at June, "Yet. I'll get him one day."

Sean loved the snow. As long as he can remember he had an intense attraction to it. So that's why now, he was standing outside in the snow, watching as it slowly fell, with a huge grin on his face. He pulled his hands from his denim jacket that he wore after his trusty black hoodie. Bending over in between his Doc Martins, which had his jeans tucked into the, he scooped the snow up, made a snowball, and threw it as far as he could without hitting someone. He laughed loudly, happy to finally have some snow.

Behind him, he heard someone speaking "My money's on McCoire and his slimy little clique, I mean, he's got blue hair now, but I can't prove it," The loud complaining puzzled him for a second as he put his hands back into his jacket, who was this McCoire? With a shrug, Sean kept watching the beautiful snow as it fell. "Yet. I'll get him one day." Sean heard the same voice spit out angrily. He turned around to look for the angry voice and while searching he spotted a lone figure that looked somewhat like himself. Shaking it off he was able to identify the source of the complaints.

A girl looking to be around his age, walking with another girl who also looked about his age was the source of the loud and angry words. Sean looked at the one girl, clearly not dressed for snow, and wondered why she dressed like it was fall while there was a ton of snow falling upon them. Curious, he began to walk over to the pair.

Maggie Hawkins was June's best friend. That was insurmountably, unequivocally, one-hundred-percent the truth. Never had June connected so well with someone so quickly. However, deep down, there was perhaps a very small part of June that was envious of Maggie. Maggie Hawkins, second year Slytherin prefect. The envy started on the first of September, when Maggie was already sporting her prefect badge and saving June from a tirade of nonsense from Colin McCoire, but it had grown ever-so-slightly in the months since. Maggie seemed perfectly fine at her job though, and June quite liked Professor Jensen, so she never paid much mind to the seed of envy. It was there, though, buried deep underneath her skin.

June was warmly wrapped in a thick white scarf that wound itself above her chin, tucked under a warm feather coat and armed with bulky snow boots that looked like they could climb mountains. Suffice to say, June was not cold one bit. Well, the bit that poked out of her scarf was, but there was only so much you could do to warm your face when you didn't know any heating charms.

"Did they not even clean up after themselves?" June sighed at Maggie's report. "Honestly, it's like people forget we have magic sometimes." June's opinion of McCoire hadn't exactly increased, but it was certain that her disposition toward him was much more amicable than Maggie's. Still, if messes were being made and nothing was being done, that was a problem. June hated mess. "I don't know, Maggie, they're just a bunch of first years. Even if they make more noise in the common room than we ever did," June mumbled the last part. Had they made a lot of noise or disruption in their first year? There were a few parties that June had heard about (or rather heard all the way in her dorm room), but she'd taken no part in them. "Any plans for winter break? It's not too far away now."

A boy walked toward the pair, donning a jean jacket of sorts, that June didn't recognize. Hogwarts was a large school though, and to be honest June didn't recognize a lot of people there. She gave him a friendly wave and a small "Hello" as they approached him. If the pair wasn't stopped, however, Maggie and June would continue on their walk, unaware of any intentions the young lad had to talk to them.
