The captain of the Viridian Vipers grinned as he watched his conjured shield absorb the impact of two spells—cringing minutely as one of those two attacks ricocheted to almost land on his prone teammate. Luckily, the Gryffindor moderator was able to nullify the spell before it made contact.

A relief.

Mulling over the Ravenclaws' incantations in his head as he narrowly dodged a beam of lightning, Dmitri decided to throw a quip at the younger of the two. "I don't know how many times a subpar duelist has to fail at Expelliarmus to know it isn't going to happen."

He turned his head slightly to regard Santario as she got back to her feet, albeit groggily. "Apologies, Martin. One can hardly aim with a Protego against two spells at once. It isn't personal..." Dmitri stated placatingly as he raised his wand-arm once more.

It was high time he ended this, himself. "...it's just Dueling."

Being locked on the ground was hardly a pleasant experience and one she didn’t relish being in. The feeling of being helpless was probably the worst feeling she could think of besides that of being a failure. If she could have sighed, she would have as she pushed against the restraints of the spell. At least while she was down, the Ravenclaws were allowed to target her, so they couldn’t get her any closer to unconsciousness for the time being. An errant energy wave caught her eye before dissipating. Close, far too close, and since it wasn’t the Ravenclaws getting yelled at, she knew something went awry on Dmitri’s side. The bounds that held her relinquished, and she would pop quickly up to her feet. “No hard feelings, not like you licked my eyeball or murdered my lizard.” A phrase only a handful of Slytherin would even understand as she playfully jabbed at him a smile playing at the corners of her lips. She’d pay for it later, but it was always worth it.

Phaedra hummed as her spell bounced off towards Santario, only to dissipate in midair from Alan’s interference. Subpar duellist? That there was the mouth of someone who’d never been put into his place, and one of a liar at that. Pericles was brilliant. She would not stand as Dmitri flung insults at her partner and family friend. “Watch yourself, Jones. Must I remind you of the time you hit yourself?” It was safe to assume that everyone would remain standing by the end of this match—a rare feat for adolescent wixes—as both teams found themselves returning to similar ground save for the darkening cloud above Slytherin’s head. At least Ravenclaw could brag that they were first to draw two shields out of the infamous Captain, now just to pull ahead in the time they had left...

The chaos would not just leave after one round, no. It was as if it had been unleashed and decided to now come crashing down on all of the duellists and clearly it was favoring the pair of vipers, who were ruthless in their tactic. Dmitri would unleash winds that would have made a storm go green from envy. His spell would have a mind of its own as the part targeting the storm cloud above him, dragged it towards the pair of eagles and the force of it would lash out at the unsuspecting Pericles, which would also distract him enough to not see the bolt of lightning raining down on him coming. But that was not the end of Dmitri's display of power, as the second part of his spell would also split and rush to both eagles and manifest around them respectively, the jet of wind crashing into them at full force, fighting to reduce their balance to nothing.

Santario chose a more humble but equally smart approach as she would heal herself with a powerful spell, causing Alan to get excited as he knew that healing was her thing, her strength and saw her proving once more that she was knowledgeable about how to get the best out of a healing spell. Pericles however was unwilling to let her get away with it that easy, as his wind jinx would crash into her and undo what healing she has been working toward. The same jet of wind would have split but missed Dmitri. The second jet of wind which he had conjured would however take a hold of the viridian viper, only weakened by this wavering feeling of fear that lingered in the back of their minds. This jet of wind wouldn't split however.

Then there was Phaedra who had been waiting for her moment to shine, a spell ready as the Disarming spell would divide into two individual spells, rushing for both of the vipers. While the one targeting Santario would miss, the other would quickly take hold of Dmitri, causing his wand to fly out of his grip as it clattered onto the piste.

I mean, you were doing a god-awful job of it, anyway…” The boy bit back a laugh. At this point, if Dmitri grinned even wider, he’d definitely get a cramp in his face. “…so I figured I’d do it myself!” This time, he couldn’t hold in his chuckles, brushing off the Ravenclaw’s retort as easily as he had all their attempts at attacking this entire duel.

I know I’m not a good person, per se, but at least I was decent enough not to bring up the fact that you surrendered in the middle of your very first du—” Dmitri, eyes absolutely alight with malicious glee, faked a gasp and covered his mouth. “Oh wait, I think I just did!

Close to tears, the Slytherin boy folded in half and cackled his heart out, his breathless laughter and exclamations of ‘oh my gosh help!’ and ‘stop. please!’ echoing throughout the dueling club, pausing in the middle only to take a breath and cast a quick Ventus (which made him laugh even more as he watched his opponents struggle).

He didn’t even notice his wand slipping out of his grasp nor the wind battering his bent form; he was just so… tickled.

The usual slew of petty trash-talk elicited rolling eyes from Pericles, that is, until The Phaedra came to his defense. Another fond, grateful glance went her way. If Dmitri had one thing going for him, it was that he brought people together- even though it was usually unity in dislike of him. "Thank you, Phaedra, but it's alright." Pericles' voice was mild as ever, but there was an uncharacteristic edge to it, something jagged. A ghastly phenomenon would unfold. As if the Ravenclaw had been fermenting in disdain for too long, that notoriously Pureblood superiority would, at last, rear its head.

Matter-of-factly, Peri observed "Jones spends all of his duels bullying younger years. It's what he's known for: he has no friends, so he uses dueling to try and make others as miserable as he is." What followed would suck the wind from him, yet it wouldn't snuff that flame. It didn't matter that his own storm was turned against him in a Ventus gale that made the stage thudder like a dock in a hurricane. He was left gasping, windswept, but sneering with disgust in spite of it all. Even if his next move was his last, he had the guts (or gall) to spit back at the notorious sixth-year. Duelling was an honorable art, to the blueblood heir, and Dmitri's attention-seeking behavior made a mockery of it. Shoving away tangled hair, Pericles wheezed a parting jab. "I imagine his mother didn't hug him enough as a child."

Santario wasn't one for Banter when it came to her opponents. Friendly banter with her teammate sure, but it was clear the other three were crossing lines between normal smack talk and actual insults. Despite the winds from Pericles Ventus spiraling around her, Santario took a deep breathe to try and center herself. It was inlikely she would remain stabding at the end of this duel, bit that it would secure the win for the other team because it wouldn't. The Ravenclaw's odds were stacked against them.

Patience was a virtue, but her threshold for nonsense was miniscule. At his laughter, Phaedra rolled her eyes, her performative pearl-clutching evident from where she stood. The surface very well may have collapsed under the weight of their combined sass, but in her defense, he’d started it. “How unheard of—First-timer yields a duel! Her hands fanned out exaggerated in her sarcasm, then balled into fists as she became heated. “…Old news, Jones. Besides, not all of us are so blessed to wallop twelve-year-olds for an entire season. I’m quite interested in knowing how you managed to pull that off for as long as you did, by the way. I don’t believe it was simply luck of the draw.”

Suddenly, Pericles spoke up, earning a curious gaze. He has no friends… I imagine his mother didn't hug him enough as a child. Huh. Pericles actually went there. From all that Phaedra had known about him, he was not the type to involve himself with petty squabbles, and certainly not mother-based insults. Either she was rubbing off on him, or it could be chalked down to his weakened state; they were all a little worse for wear and irritable with the loud-mouth across the piste. If you asked her, his unhinged behaviour seemed greater than mommy-issues, but she supposed all problems like his had to originate from somewhere. “What do you say, Jones? Was his assessment accurate?”

Alan knew how quickly a duel could grow utterly violent, in means necessary for victory, however he hadn't quite expected the display that would unfold right before his eyes. Whereas Dmitri was busy searching the piste for his wand, while navigating through the jets of wind that were pulling at him mercilessly, Santario thought it wise to cast one of her powerful healing charms onto herself. And perhaps this was best, though as the crazy mess that had yet to come proved, sadly not enough to save her from the embrace of unconscious slumber. It would start with Phaedra, who ruthless as she was would navigate a spread blasting curse on the unsuspecting vipers, striking both at full force while shrapnel flew through the air. Alan had to throw up a shielding charm of his own so that he would not get caught by the flying shrapnel either, or more importantly Tiger, who was now taking cover in Alan's robes. Pericles was not open to consider mercy either as he conjured powerful jets of flames that were meant for the pair of vipers, however something went wrong in his aim and they both would rush towards Santario. The fire would be painful an singe the hem of her duelling robes, the pain enough for her to lose consciousness and drop to the stage. Alan wouldn't wait for a second, as he commanded the duelists to pause their antics, as he extinguished the fires on his friend, before letting a pair of med wing helpers carry out the unconscious girl. Alan had to fight himself momentarily from following them and asking more questions on her well-being, telling himself that would have to wait until after the duel had commenced and so he returned his attention to the three remaining duellists, giving them a nod. "Continue," he allowed, even though he knew this duel was seconds from being done. But perhaps the Ravenclaw team could turn the tide, now that Dmitri would be facing off against them on his own.

Dmitri scoffed. Had his opponents' comments been made five years ago, it would have elicited a more aggressive response from the ill-tempered Slytherin. However, the boy had not spent three years proving he was the most powerful wizard of his age to revert back to a mindset of blaming the death of his mother on his own weakness and incompetency.

Nah. He has opted to blame every misfortune on everyone else, instead.

A wonderful technique that clearly had positive results.

And just made him all that much more unpleasant to be around.

"My poor mother's dead, if you must know. So I guess you are right." The boy couldn't dodge an attack midsentence, and so suffered an explosion head-on. Santario shared a much more brutal fate, succumbing to her injuries and dropping onto the cold floor. Unfortunate. "Really, really tragic, if you ask me." Dmitri mimed wiping a tear from the corner of his eye, silently noting the way the Ravenclaws were both only clinging on to a thin shred of consciousness, as well.

"I personally don't know about the state of your parents..." He'd snort as one of the Ravenclaws again suffered electrocution from their very own Metelojinx. "...but I'm fairly certain the knowledge that they have birthed two utter disappointments is enough to finish them off."

Picking up his wand from the ground, he'd straighten slowly and look at each of the Ravenclaws in the face. "Any last words?"
