As Matthew entered the hall, all sign of exhaustion from the long journey seemed to be plucked from his mind. The Great Hall, which he'd heard so much about, blew his expectations out of the water. His eyes were drawn upwards, seeing that indeed the cloudy sky was perfectly replicated against the ceiling.
As his eyes moved down to the candles that were suspended in the air, he felt a sudden pang of nervousness, ears growing rather warm as his feet mindlessly moved him forward. He glanced to the table of students wearing red trimmed robes, and tried to locate his siblings sitting with their peers on the Gryffindor table. Searching so frantically that he didn't even register the house ghosts that were moving about the hall.
Finally, the students in front of him began to slow their pace and Matthew almost walked straight into the back of a rather stocky boy. He gulped, this was it. The moment he'd dreamed about for as long as he could remember had arrived and it terrified him. What if he wasn't placed in Gryffindor after all? What if the sorting hat couldn't decide on any house and he was cast from Hogwarts before his first day had even begun? As names started to be called, perhaps Matthew's terror was showing a little too much as a boy whom he had met on the Hogwarts express, and who was standing beside him now, tapped him on the shoulder and whispered a few words of comfort but before Matthew could properly respond, he heard his name called.
"Robertson, Matthew"
He stuffed his hands into his pockets, and with a lowered head, he approached the stool at the front of the staff tables. He turned and popped himself down, and shortly after he felt a weight atop his head that could only be the Sorting Hat.
Then he heard it, a voice that seemed to be coming from inside his head.
"Hmm... Nice and easy."
Matthew cringed, sensing the disappointment that was about to come his way. He was a ball of nerves, not exactly the behaviour of the brave at heart. He looked up, and beaming back at him from the Gryffindor table were his brother and sister.
"GRYFFINDOR!" the hat called out to the room, and Matthew beamed back, laughing at how he could ever have been so stupid as to doubt it as he half ran across to join his new classmates on the Gryffindor table.

Thorn was out of breath by the time she reached the Great Hall doors. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach it made her quite nauseous. She took some deep breaths as she saw the others start to come up the steps. Her stomach had gotten so bad that she threw up at the feet of the caretaker. "Sorry" she said while wiping her mouth as the doors opened. She walked down the aisle with the other first years. She glanced over at her brothers at the Slytherin table they all gave her a thumbs up as she walked by. She smiled "Alright, it's your turn to make Basilisk proud" she coaxed herself. The headmaster got up and gave his speech. Thorn wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying she was too busy fidgeting with her hands. After a few minutes they started reading off a list of namesOutfit
Reducio
"Cullen, Thorn"
She suddenly felt sick again but made her way up to the sorting hat. She sat down shakily
"Slytherin!"
The hat said before even touching her head, Thorn beamed as she walked to her table.
If you can't play the good guy, sometimes you've got to play the villain.

The Great hall was so much bigger than Nancy could ever have imagined. The long tables filled with students talking and laughing. She let herself be guided up toward the front with the rest of the first years. As they started calling students' names, she tugged at the cuffs of her sleeves. She clapped hesitantly as each house was called. She really wanted to be sorted into Hufflepuff. Her brother, Jonny, had been a Hufflepuff. He was her idol. The one who had taught her about nature and would teach her some of what he learned in his classes when he was home on break. He would go on walks through the fields and hills showing her the beauty of the Highlands. He taught her that loyalty to friends, family, and beliefs was so important. That being fair and just were important to have in both your personal life and professional life.
She refocused on the first years being sorted. There weren't that many left, a student with a V last name had just been sorted into Gryffindor. Nancy swallowed hard and took a shuddering breath. Finally, her name was called. She slowly walked up towards the Headmaster holding the hat. She shuffled forward and sat on the stool facing the hall. He placed the hat on her head.
'Please let me be in Hufflepuff. I really want Hufflepuff' she thought furiously. 'Please, please, please'.
"While I appreciate your reasons for wanting to be in Hufflepuff and you would be very happy, I think you would go much farther in... RAVENCLAW" the hat shouted.
Headmaster Lear removed the hat and Nancy slowly got up and made her way over to the cheering Ravenclaw table. The other new Ravenclaws greeted her happily and some of the other years also shouted greetings. Nancy swallowed down her disappointment. Her Ma and sister had both been in Ravenclaw. They had spoken very highly of their house and the students around her seemed very nice. For now, however, she would celebrate with her new housemates and officially start out her first year at Hogwarts! She had all year to get to know her house and learn why the hat had sorted her here.

Beatrice walked into the great hall among all other first years. Her heart was beating in her throat and she felt as if she was going to faint. Four long tables stood in the Great Hall, hundreds of students sitting at each one of them. The colors they were wearing told Beatrice what house they were in. The sea of green catched her attention the most. Slytherin. This was the house her Parents wanted her to be in. She wasn't particularly sure why because they both went to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.
When the group of first years arrived at the front of the Hall, they looked up at the Teachers table and to one person particularly. Solomon Lear. Beatrice had heard a lot about him and he certainly looked intimidating but somehow there was also something.. kind..? about him. He welcomed them all and held a speech that Beatrice didn't really listen too. The small dark haired girl was having an internal Panik attack. There was so much pressure on her that you could see her visibly shaking. They want me in Slytherin. Please but me in Slytherin. I don't know what they'll say it I won't be put in Slytherin. For the love of Merlin, I'll do anything to get into Slytherin. These kind of thoughts were running through Beatrice's head as everything around her seemed to be silent. The only thing she could hear was the blood pounding in her ears, a rushing sound that made her feel even more dizzy. She didn't necessarily know what house she would want to be placed in or what house actually fit her. She was ambitious but cunning? She was smart but was she smart enough for Ravenclaw? She was brave at heart but certainly didn't have any chivalry, or at least she didn't feel like it. Beatrice was also kind and loyal but not like anyone that was in Hufflepuff.
»Beatrice Alaska Dupont?« when she heard her name, a sick feeling creeped up her throat and Beatrice felt like she was going to vomit. Instead, she gripped her wand tightly in her black robes and started walking up the stairs to the hat that sat on a chair. She knew what was going to happen. It wasn't like she had even noticed anything that was going on around her during the ceremony but Beatrice knew what was about to happen. The Headmaster gave her a kind smile before he lifted up the head and she sat down.
Her heart was beating so fast that she felt like even Solomon Lear that stood a long step away from her could hear it. The hat was placed on her and suddenly covered even her eyes. There was silence in the whole hall, only a few whispers could be heard. Beatrice recalled what the sorting head had sung about and the lyrics went through her head as the hat sat there, covering her eyes and thinking. Apparently she had payed a little attention during the ceremony.
»SLYTHERIN.« Beatrice flinched as the hat yelled. The shaky feeling suddenly went away and a numb feeling took over as the Slytherin table erupted into cheers and clapping. Beatrice stood up after the hat was lifted off her and went over to her table, sitting down in a free space.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've got a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends. "

Astra always wanted to be a Ravenclaw, it was her dream house because of a few things she heard about the house.
For starters their dorm looked great, they had a view to the stars thanks to enchanted ceiling just like there was in the great hall.
It was also the house of the people who loved knowledge, which better house to become a famous and recognize astronomy expert ? Which better house to archive her dream ?
-Astra Ingebrigtsen ! A voice called.
The disable girl walked with her crutches to the sorting hat, and when the hat touched her head he said:
-You, at first glance you will do well in Slytherin.
The girl's face was filled with shock, and she started getting frustrated.
-No! She spontaneously reply.
The sorting hat moved indicating it was going to listen to what Astra wanted to say.
-I only belong to Ravenclaw ! It's the only possible house for me !
After a few seconds of thought the sorting hat replied:
-Unfortunately in your case...
-Look deeper ! I was born to be a ravenclaw !
The sorting hat concentrated for a few more seconds and then said:
-Even taking what you want in consideration, your house should be Slythe...
-PLEASE !
And again the sorting hat went silent while exploring Astra's mind.
-That is... interesting ! How would you like being in Gryffindor ?
Astra felt that the sorting hat would not in any circonstance put her into Ravenclaw, that thought filled her with frustration like never before. To think her future would be determined, compromised by a mere hat, she felt annoyed.
-No ! The house I am in won't stop me ! I won't let it ! She thought very hard.
-So it will either be Slytherin or Gryffindor ? She asked sadly.
-Yes, I believe that those two houses will help you best to reach your full potential. The magical hat replied.
Astra Ingebrigtsen thought about all the advantage and disadvantage for both house, the Gryffindor's common room was closer to the astronomy tower and she believed people in Gryffindor would be easier to deal with, easier to manipulate into doing what she want, and easier to trust compared to those in Slytherin.
-Fine, put me to Gryffindor ? I am a ravenclaw tho, I believe the infamous sorting hat to be better ttelling han this, and more considerate about my choice She replied harshly in a last attempt to manipulate the hat into sending her to ravenclaw.
-GRYFFINDOR THEN !
-SCREW YOU THEN ! She thought she thought in her head loudly.
She then proceeded to get up and go to the Gryffindor's table.

Sorting Hat Ceremony.|It has begun

The famed Solomon Lear, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, met with everyone who climbed off the Hogwarts express as they congregated in one place. He introduced himself to all new students thereafter they walked towards the great hall.
The student continued on as they walked through the well-known Great Hall of Hogwarts, but the boy kept an eye on the Headmaster the entire time. The youngster was highly perceptive, so he could immediately notice that the headmaster appeared to be limping.
" He is limping; must be old age, huh?" . The boy muttered to himself as he stood in the third row of students who had gathered to follow the headmaster.
Just as they arrived in the great hall, the headmaster presented the entire school governing body, a pointed hat was introduced to all students and it said a few things. The youngster now grasped the significance of this because the hat ended with a particular song that served as the event's major theme.
When it came time to arrange the third row of students into their various houses after the first and second rows, Ashley was the first to be called. The boy who seemed as moody as winter was called out by the headmaster..."Ashley Dinero Montez."
He sighed hesitantly but ultimately made his way to a chair in front of the headmaster, where he sat comfortably as the hat was put on his head.
As the hat began to talk, Ashley drew his arms together like a grown adult.
"You are challenging to categorize, let's see. Ah, I see. Hm, No."
The child appeared perplexed as to what was going on when the hat replied no.
"Although one aspect of your personality outweighs the other, both are incredibly engaging. You exhibit characteristics of a Slytherin, however as noted, one trait outweighs the other despite being almost equal."
The hat paused as suspense mounted in the room. The hat shouted "RAVENCLAW!" loud enough for everyone to hear. The Ravenclaw table let out a raucous round of applause, chants, and cheers as they welcomed a new member. The youngster smirked and rose from the chair, heading for the ravenclaw table.

Amaris’ gaze wandered around the Great Hall, finding it much grander than she had expected. Four long tables stretched across the length of the room, all illuminated by floating candles. Paintings lined the walls that upon closer inspection, were revealed to be moving. She tore her eyes away from the decorations around the hall as the headmaster began to speak, interrupting the silence that had previously consumed the students.
She furrowed her eyebrows, they were being sorted? Much less by a hat? This seemed particularly significant according to the information Amaris gleaned from the song. Her thoughts drifted away to what house she would be placed in. Perhaps Ravenclaw? She had always loved reading.
First year students started being called out in alphabetical order according to their last names. Amaris fiddled with the fabric of her robes, estimating that she would be sorted sooner rather than later according to the current pace.
“Amaris Levine.” the headmaster called out. The girl in question inhaled deeply, trying to relax her muscles from the tense state they were in. This would be her first impression to the pupils of the school, though she doubted any of them would remember her name after the sorting ceremony was over. She made her way to the chair, placing the hat on her head. Amaris placed her hands in her lap as the sorting hat began to deliberate the best choice for her. She glanced at the pupils at the tables, most of them being fixated on her. It was slightly unnerving for the girl, never having been the centre of attention much throughout her eleven years, exactly the way she preferred it.
“Gryffindor!” She flinched as the hat yelled out of her house. Out of all the houses, Amaris hadn’t expected that she would be placed here. She wasn’t that brave and certainly not chivalrous, though she supposed that it wouldn’t be fit for her to question something that had worked for years as a newcomer.
She descended down to the Gryffindor table amidst the deafening sound of hundreds of students cheering and applauding. Amaris supposed that she would be in Gryffindor for the rest of her Hogwarts journey, whether she liked it or not.

Oliver took his first few steps into the Great Hall, and just stood there in amazement as he looked at its gigantic size. It had to be in order to fit all these students inside of it, as well as its teaching staff all the way on the far end of the room. He passed a glance at each of the long tables, assigned to one of the four School Houses, and decorated with the appropriate house color. Oliver had only been told about what was to happen during his first time here in this room, from his dad, who partook in the same sorting ceremony. His father ended up being sorted into the Gryffindor house when he was a boy, Oliver wondered if he would be sorted there as well, or if he would be sorted in one of the three remaining house Options, only a hat was in the way of him knowing.
He stood in a group of kids, who were all 1st year students as well. He stood there and listened as the Headmaster informed all the 1st years what was about to happen in the upcoming moments, and he let out a slight smirk as did some of the others around him, as well as a few cheers here and there. He watched on as he then proceeded to call up students one by one and place the sorting hat upon their heads, in order for it to inform them what their house will be, during their tenure at the school. Soon enough the time had finally come and Oliver’s name was announced to be next. He took a big gulp and slowly made his way up to the chair to be sorted into his house.
He sat on the stool as the Sorting Hat was placed upon his head. The Hat spoke about some of Oliver’s characteristics he had as it used those to help facto his house options. He soon spoke out the name of the house, “GRYFFINDOR!” The hat shouted for everyone in the Great Hall to hear. The hat was removed from his head and Oliver excitedly made his way over to the Gryffindor table, where he would be joined by the other members of his house, both old and new. He introduced himself to a few others he sat near as he sat there in his new spot as the sorting ceremony continued on with the rest of the kids.

Anna anything but ran out of the scarlet train. It was already dark out and she was pushed and showed by other students, she kept her composure and followed a little group of students that looked her age. She found herself on the edge of an enormous lake, stars making their appearance in it as well as in the sky. Anna noticed others entering small boats so she slowly boarded one as well, as soon as there were four of them in it, the boat glided across the lake with just a lantern in front of it. Anna took a deep breath and giggled. Too soon the boat stopped and following the crowd they neared a beautiful old castle, Hogwarts. Walking through the grand doors warmth engulfed Anna and her eyes widened. Everything inside screamed magic, so many children were in awe too. Walking slowly they entered the Great Hall, floating candles, the moving ceiling, the four tables, it was just like her fathers’ stories but so much more.
As more kids came in she finally looked at the people around her. First noticing the professors at the table in front, they seemed very powerful. ‘I can’t wait to learn from all of them’, she couldn’t take the excitement so she started playing with a strand of her hair. The previously chatty and loud hall quieted down, Anna turned around and saw an older man walking up to the professors table. He was clad in golden armor with hair as white as snow. He stood on the podium and introduced himself as Solomon Lear, the Headmaster. Anna soaked in his speech, recognizing the Sorting Hat as it spoke. After the hat sung a very intriguing song, the headmaster unrolled a scroll with the names and started calling out. Anna didn’t think she could wait much more, and she didn’t have to.
“Blackrose, Anna”. Anna held her head up high and walked up to the stool with poise. She sat down and the hat was placed on her head.
“Oh, very sharp mind, indeed. Slytherin would be a good pick now wouldn’t it. But the wise Ravenclaw is a contestant as well”, the Sorting Hat pondered.
“What spell made you think and speak?”, Anna thought trying to get the hat to reveal his secret. He laughed.
“Well now, can’t tell you that, but I can certainly tell you your house”.
“RAVENCLAW!”. The hat bellowed and Anna grinned. This is one of the houses she would have picked too. Gracefully getting up she skipped down to the Ravenclaw table that was cheering for her. ‘I wonder how many friends am I going to meet here, and how much my magic will improve’. Anna sat down with lots of thoughts swirling in her head as the sorting continued. This was just the beginning.

Sorting Ceremony
A deep sigh left Lizzie's lips as she tried to shake away the nerves of not only being stared down by the older year groups in the school but also the pressure of being sorted into a house that she'd be spending the next 7 years in at Hogwarts. Her eyes darted around, trying to take in all of the people, all of the magic she was surrounded by. A grin tugged its way onto her face as the excitement of finally being here dawned on her. This was the day to make a new impression on others around her, to try and make friends.
Once the huddled group of first years had made their way to the front of the hall and everyone had quietened down, the headmaster- in armour, might I add(as this was rather intriguing to young Lizzie)- spoke with great confidence and humour about how the sorting hat would work and who lead each house. Lizzie was clinging onto every word, afraid that if she missed something, she may never be told it again. After the speech, the headmaster moved to the side and invited the first year students to try the sorting hat on and be sorted into their new family.
The names slowly dwindled down as Lizzie fidgeted with her fingers, chewing on her bottom lip and calculating in her head how many people would be sorted before her. I mean, how many people have last names starting with I,J, or K really? More than she liked anyway. As her anxiety grew, it finally came to M.
"Lizzie McGregor"
At last, what she wanted to hear. In the small time it took to walk to the stool, her mind buzzed with thoughts of what house she would be in. Her mother was a Ravenclaw, her father a Slytherin like her brother- but what would she be?
"Ah, I see... you certainly are thinking a lot young lady. That only gives me more information on which house you should be in I guess." The sorting hat was not getting to the point. Lizzie needed to be told her fate and she needed it now. "Alright, alright I get it. Your in-depth analysis of this whole process should've just told me right away."
"RAVENCLAW!"
The table beneath the blue banners lit up and cheered joyfully at their new addition and Lizzie grinned as she practically skipped her way over. She sat down near the other first years that had been sorted so far and introduced herself, eager to know at least a few people when lessons started. This was going to be a great year.
