The next few moments were a blur. Things truly took a turn for the worse as the doll sprang to life, and took a sizeable chunk out of Colin's cousin. In an instant, wands were drawn, spells were cast, and blood splattered across the grass. Fellow students joined the commotion in their eagerness to help. Gem simply stood there, frozen in fright. She could barely pick out Colin's roar of anger and despair among the chaos.

How could this have happened?

Drops of bright red dotted the collar of the Ravenclaw's white dress as poor Lily floated, unconscious, above the din. There were cries for a professor, the nurse; anyone to come and put a stop to this madness.
A burst of flame blazed across the lawn. Gem whipped around with a start, the firelight reflected in her eyes. She finally came to-- it was time to act-- and yanked her wand from the folds of her dress. Quickly, she pointed it at a nearby rabbit statue. "Flipendo!" With luck, the force of her spell just might send the stone animal right into the monstrous doll's path. If the fire didn't stop it first, that is.

Despite the state of panic all around her, Gem felt strangely calm. There was a chance for her magic to fail, but in times like these, every effort was worth it. She just hoped the night would end happily enough for everyone.

While peddling off his potions, the boy became aware of a few things; the screams of dismay and likely fear were getting louder than the commonly ebbing and flowing syncopations of normal speech, the plethora of ghosts had essentially just bull rushed almost through him and towards the aforementioned scuffle he had taken notice of earlier, and the sudden increase of rather hot mood lighting that had suddenly taken up residence behind him.

Even before he turned around, Piérre visibly slouched as Beetlejuice and pinched the bridge of his nose, licking his dry lips slightly. "Of course it was fire!" He chirped brightly, clapping his hands with a pained grin on his face. "Abso-LUTE-ly! Whyyyyyyy not!? I LOVE FIRE!" He spun on his heel tightly, continuing to grin ear to ear, storming towards the blaze with hands in pockets and cat around shoulders. "Of course it happened during my event as well! BOY am I HAPPY!" With emerald eyes catching the light of the flames with a wildness that looked nearly unhinged, the boy approached the fire and what seemed to be its only logical starters, the palely-aestheticed beautiful girl and Alec Mason his fellow duelist and (to perhaps the horror of many) Piérre's first kiss.

Smiling towards the two of them in the midst of their (probable) brawl, the boy turned his attention first towards the fires, making small wand movements as he spoke. "Heeeeeeey! I don't mean to intrude, as I can see that the two of you are quite preoccupied with_" Piérre made a sweeping gesture towards the both of them in a teasingly 'romantic' way, "Whatever love language you're engaging in, but I gotta cut it off at being arsonists, because unfortunately I have to maintain order somehow..." The boy bemoaned his fate as a keeper of order as opposed to its liberator, but finally resigned himself to trying to nip the firestorm in the bud as Figaro tried to lean himself forward enough to catch whiffs of either student in an attempt to memorize their scents for later recall. "Anyways, if you want privacy may I suggest that corner over there? Nobody will see you if you wanna make the relationship, how you say, more serious?" The sleezy Beetlejuice turned and mimed making out before disinterestedly flicking his yew wand towards the fire and incanting. "Extinguo."

With a small snicker in character of his current cosplay, Beetlejuice spun about to face the two of them again and then flared his arms and walked backwards away from the confrontation; just in case someone tried to send him off with an extra aggressive spell or two. The boy continued to grin as he tried to melt back into the crowd, but stopped short as a burst of white exploded through the skies and towards a broom-bound person...

Was that...

"Romeo?" He marveled quietly. What in the heck was going on?

Valentin nodded as Romeo made two out of three shots at Johannes’s hat. This was their co-captain alright, and their score was even. Val sat back on his broom with the understanding that he would have to find a way to pull ahead during the next two challenges. At the end of his turn at quaffle archery, Beater #4 tossed his cloak at the shivering seeker. Valentin was just as surprised to be cold without even enduring the full brunt of a Russian winter, but these days it felt like some creature was chilling him from the inside out. He couldn’t just let the cloak drop and get dirty. Val had gone through hell to retrieve that garment and didn’t want to have to clean it yet again. It belonged with Romeo. Swooping slightly to catch the cloak as a wind gust began to blow it off course, Valentin smiled weakly back at Romeo. He didn’t want to make the other boy cold on behalf of his strange condition. This was never the plan. Yet, Romeo seemed to be telling the truth: he really had bundled up. Val decided to keep an eye on him and return the cloak at the first sign that the Italian was beginning to suffer from the chill. Embarrassed and a little sad, Valentin couldn’t muster a thank you, but only an obedient tip of his head to his co-captain. Still, Romeo reinforced his assertion:

"If I am a knight, I have to make sure that my associates are well cared for. I can't have them getting too cold. You keep that cloak on and do not get to reject it or give it away until we go home after this celebration tonight! That's an order."

Damn, thought Val, knowing that was that. Whatever it was that was wrong with him these days… was now affecting Rome, too. I have to find a way to do better, shielding from whatever is happening to me…

“Alright…” Valentin began, pulling on the cloak with a heavy sigh of guilt. “Let’s prepare for the next trial, the joust. I need you to –” A white bolt of energy burst up from the ground, interrupting the knights’ tournament, as Romeo narrowly dodged out of the spell’s path. The seeker shot his keen eyes to the ground and spied its likely source, a blood-thirsty Real Girl looking for its papa. With a glance at Beater #4 and to Keeper #5, Valentin nodded as his only indication of his plans. They were used to working as a unit, and they knew how the frost captain worked. The look on his face told them he would not tolerate an attack against Romeo, and he was going in without expecting any kind of direct support. Tipping his Silver Arrow down in a steep plummet, Valentin drew his wand before he even knew what he was going to cast. The ruddy stick warmed with excitement in his hand as it sensed it would finally get to see some action. The seeker squeezed the wood back with gratitude that it hadn’t already committed wand seppuku from its boredom during the earlier half of the evening.

Pointing directly at the hag doll, Valentin’s lips issued a Petrificus Totalus in concert with the typical sideways hook wand gesture.

As the red sparks of periculum spun into the sky, at least one knight would answer the call.

The first toss was easy with the element of surprise on my side, knocking the had off of Jojo's head quite easily as I smile over at him. "Sorry Jojo! I won't throw mean again, I promise!" I avow to play even more fair than I had been before, letting him take up his position and take time to adjust his stance for proper evasion as I line up my shot, readying my aim, getting ready to toss...

A flash of white on my periphery causes me to lurch suddenly and fumble my throw, letting the Quaffle fall to the ground as I visibly lurch and stop my floating drift just in time for the hissing white energy to just barely dance right before my eyes, blinding me for a half second before I blink quickly and readjust my sights. Rubbing my eyes to clear the black spots dancing before my eyes, I tried to guess as to where the blast of what must have been a spell had come from. Tossing the ball heartedly and knocking the hat from Jojo's head before being distracted again by trying to triangulate the origin of the spell, my answer is quickly answered by Valentin suddenly swooping down towards a young girl covered in what I hoped was not blood.

If it was blood, I was willing to bet that it wasn't hers, based on the broad grin that she wore... looking directly into me as if she could sear though my skull with her own blue eyes. A wand was pointed my direction, a rich dark burgundy color. Cherry wood. Well, if it was combined with some sort of dragon creature as a core, that would have certainly explained why the spell had been so bright; especially if the spell had been one intended to deal impressive damage. "V-Valya!" I complained as the albino slipped past me and a subconsciously half-hearted grab that I had attempted on my own cloak in order to keep him back and away from the danger. "Maybe it was a pran- VAL! MAYBE IT WAS A PRANK?!"

Wishful thinking, but I had lived long enough with my brother to now have the unfortunate hope that perhaps at least one in every 50 situations presented to me were the result of a joke or a gaffe. Yet, with Niffler already in action, I didn't think there was much I could do to stop the infernal Bludger now.

Watching him swoop down with now bared teeth and furrowed brow, I cuss to myself under my breath in Italian before following after him at a slower descent, perhaps hoping that the girl would lower her wand so that we could hold a civil conversation. I didn't want to attack her... but I wasn't afraid to hit a girl who was willing to hit me first and then accept the immediate payback that came right after it. If she wanted a fight, she would have a fight; the blood on her attested that she was willing to risk her bodily health, and the way she stared at me made me want to force her to stop.

Yet, if she didn't attack, I was willing to be formal, polite even. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding. A misunderstanding that would be made even more awkward if Valentin's body bind curse truly hit its mark.

In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

Shiawase hadn't attended any balls in her first year at Hogwarts, as she was far too busy studying in the library. But this year, she resolved to be different, to go to every ball if she could. After all, someone gave her dance lessons last year. It'd be a shame for all that hard work to go to waste. And so, Shiawase showed up in a pink ballgown, with her hair done up in a large poof on the top of her head, a butterfly hair pin holding it together. She put some fake blood on her feet, making it soak through her slippers. After all, she was one of Cinderella's step-sisters, and in the Grimm version of the tale, well . . .

Shiawase figured she already had the wheelchair, so why not? She thought she was quite stunning . . . and quite late, but really, it's hard to get something this big and poofy on even when one could stand up! Still, she expected she might draw eyes, maybe get invited to a dance?

But as soon as she entered the ball, she heard screaming. And saw the rockets of red in the sky, a distress signal if she ever saw one, and she knew, she had to help! And so she wheeled toward the screams, which were abruptly cut short, and as she got closer, she saw white energy hurtling toward someone riding a broom - it looked like it missed but just barely! Ooh, this was not good . . . And that's when she finally saw a very very creepy-looking girl, covered in blood, and her friends apparently trying to fight her? Okay, process later. Act now.

"I saw your distress beacon! I'm here to help!" Shiawase said with an air of authority and confidence that surprised even her. Okay, but how?

How, how? Time seemed to slow as she thought about what to do. The girl who needed her help the most was already bandaged, so there was nothing Shiawase could really do there. Colin was charging at this girl - and someone was casting the fire making charm at her, and someone was throwing a statue?

And suddenly, it clicked. That evil blood-covered girl would have to block attacks from the left and right. She would be so busy trying to fend those off, she probably wouldn't even think to look up. Shiawase wheeled forward as fast as she could, and then with a definitive swish and flick motion, she said, "Wingardium Leviosa!" (pronounced, of course: Wing-GARD-ee-um Leh-vee- OH-sa), casting it upon her wheelchair.

She would attempt to levitate over the Real Girl's head, then drop down on her from above. At the very least, being in the air could mean she could position herself between the Real Girl and the boy she was casting spells at.
ACTION: Shiawase's going to attempt to position herself above the Real Girl, then drop down on her head.

They were splitting up. Chaos was occurring. Simon knew that this was precisely the reason why wars had captains and generals that could make split-second decisions for the good of all. They were just kids and they didn't have a captain or a general, only intuition and good will.

Simon nodded, knowing he had to get Lily to the Hospital Wing. Someone had to. Even if for some reason Nurse Frogge wasn't there, the elves that helped out could help tend to her. She couldn't bleed out, not there in the Courtyard. Simon wouldn't allow it.

He took the cloak that was used in their failed capture of the Real Girl and brought it to Lily, wrapping her best he could, covering the fabric that Clair had already used and was blood-soaked once again.

"I'm going to take you to the Hospital Wing,"
he told the girl. If she had any consciousness within her, he didn't want her frightened or startled or worried about what was happening to her. "We're doing our best to help you and stop....whatever that thing is. You've got a lot of friends here, we just....are in over our heads."

Now with her wounds wrapped slightly, Simon gently picked the girl up and made his way out from the Courtyard and to the Hospital Wing with Lily.

Hopefully he could get her the care she needed and then come back to rejoin AngelFyre and Clair and their friend Colin and anyone else who was still left in the madness. Hopefully no more others would get hurt.

Outfit | General description beyond clothes:
Alec's curly brown hair is tied back into a ponytail, various pins decorate the vest he's wearing, and unlike what has become the usual routine, Alec has made no effort to hide the ways his lips look. His lips were strangely dark with darker lines extending from his mouth, It resembles the curse that students had in the past. The boy seemed to think that by now it would have been more trouble than it was worth to cover up, he would have needed much more than lipstick.
Alec is acting absolutely awful >.<
It was upsetting. He was frustrated with Pea and trying to express it(albeit not in the best way). Here Pea was, not listening, again. What a twist. Pea wasn't letting Alec speak. She wasn't letting him finish- she just- agh! Alec felt like he was going to explode. And then she called him a baby. She called him a baby for trying to tell her that he wanted to be listened to. Her childish insult would have been enough to make him scoff if not for the fact he currently felt like burying his face in his hands and melting into the floor. “Merlin Pea, how is calling me a baby productive?” This was not how people worked their problems out. Though Alec didn't feel like continuing to hash their issues out either. It was too much.

Alec's eyebrows furrowed, frowning when an upset Pea came to the conclusion that Alec's insults(words of frustration) meant he was too good for her. Well- he wondered aloud why he thought anything between the two of them would work out... Those were never words on her. Alec understand his 'difficulties' when it came to relationships and was going to assume it was his fault, even if there were things that frustrated him with her. Maybe he'd been approaching them wrong, really, there was never a right way to approach it. His mind was wandering, he should be listening, even if he was upset at Pea for not letting him speak.

"I can't believe I wasted so much time on you! You know what Alec? you are just as bad as me but you would never admit it! But unlike you, I am not a coward. SO YES, I am selfish and egotistical, but at least I'm not a weak, cowardly, and a liar, who only acted like a goodie two-shoe in front of everyone else!"

Pea said she couldn't she had wasted so much time on Alec. The Gryffindor blinked, a look of surprise crossing his face. He hadn't thought about the words he had used after they came from his mouth. His being upset with Pea resulted in him using words that would hurt her. But it almost felt like those words were different. Not heat of the moment. Final. She couldn't believe she'd wasted so much time on him. Pea's words after didn't take him by surprise as much as the sentence she started with had. Pea said she was just as bad as him. It was almost funny because he had never once said he was better than her. At her words Alec could feel the reminisce of his third-year self creeping in, laughing at her. He knew he was just as bad as her. He'd accepted that long before Pea had come into the picture. Pea had no idea what she was saying. If she thought he was bad now she should have asked around the castle about him before their second date. There would have been someone who had all the details, someone always did.

Alec could hardly believe she was making the claim he was a goodie-two-shoes. He might have been weak but he wasn't known for his strength, nor was he known for his honesty. After everything he'd gone through, the one thing he was not was cowardly. He knew when to step in and when to stay out of it. Some battles weren't worth fighting over. Alec didn't need her to tell him who he was. “You doing it again,” Alec muttered. He couldn't believe he was continuing this arguing with her wasn't worth it. “I called you selfish and egotistical because you don't listen, you don't let me speak. You immediately proved my point.”

Zero effort from him. She walked herself into that one. He knew it wasn't worth arguing with her right now, they could work this out later, whatever. Alec went in for a drink and disaster struck when the goblet went from the table to topple over Pea's dress. Ruining it. He couldn't help but let a snide remark escape from his lips, just as he realized the cup had gone from goblet to owl and Pea was bleeding, he noticed he whip out her wand and cast Incendio. The look on her face went from concern for her, to a look of disbelief, and now distrust for the person in front of him. He didn't have time to think, he moved. Duelling came in handy for a reason and he was able to dodge.

The moment of danger ended but Alec couldn't pull himself away. Not even to look to where the fire had gone, to see if he needed to stomp it out. Pea cast incendio. Pea wanted to hurt him. She could have if he had been but a few seconds too late. Even Alec was able to recognize that was a boundary you were never supposed to cross. He didn't think she was capable of crossing it until she did. Pea was wrong. She was worse than him, and even Alec found that bitter news to swallow. The news, however, did light a fire in him, as if the incendio by itself wasn't enough, Alec felt he had to spell it out for her, maybe he should have done that with the fire thing too. “Don't talk to me. Don't ever come near me again.” The words would leave his mouth just as a boy he had encountered from spin the bottle showed up. Alec looked behind him to notice the fire put out and let out a breath of relief. The boy from spin the bottle had to go over the whole spiel about not casting Incendio among other things Alec wanted to pretend he didn't hear. “I wouldn't worry,” Alec made the effort of saying. “We're done here.” And those were the last words he would get out before making his way to exit.

Though neither rabbit nor knight could call themselves proper chasers, it would simply be disrespectful if Johannes couldn't at least give his well-deserved kudos for their stellar quaffle handling. It was only expected from his co-captains, only expected from Durmstrang as a whole. And while he did relish in getting a rise out of people, he just so happened to enjoy the easy friendship he had with his kapitäne (vague power imbalance aside) so of course, he wasn't letting their feats of athletic prowess go unacknowledged. Headmaster Plott could never top the inherent pride Johannes felt for his Quidditch team. It was only a lifetime's work of skill that allowed him to continue running his mouth as the Scantillion Solution wore off, his play-by-play only momentarily distracted by the strange experience of having feeling return to his tongue.

Caught in a cycle of parading his hat around for a target before being forced to lunge for it midair, Johannes' enthusiastic peacocking was doing no favours for his running commentary. "Hey hey hey- I've got a hat on my head, not an apple. A tiny bit gentler now!" Joking complaints aside, it all had to be periodically volume adjusted between the Courtyard's noise fluctuation. Perhaps he should have practised the amplifying charm more. Or maybe he could have invested in a good ol' fashioned megaphone... Hmm, that was a good idea for another day, when he wasn't about to get his head knocked off his neck every few minutes. Not to say that Valentin and Romeo were aiming to do so (quite the opposite, he was sure), but it was a lot less confident of a prediction when he was a moving target and quaffles were being thrown at eye level.

His musings were cut short as a white bolt of energy shot towards Romeo from the crowd below, streaking past the beater and not directly through only because of the other's quick instincts. Johann's tophat, newly knocked off with the next throw and heavy with a hidden pocket in the inner lining, met little resistance as it left his person. Now - for the record - it was usually Johannes doing the dangerous, impulsive things at public events and needing to be reigned back, but it seemed that the switched dynamics didn't end with Cielle. (Goddamnit Cielle! Where the hell was she, anyway? This really wasn't the time, was it?) He received but a simple nod before their White Rabbit was off, wand brandished and Romeo close behind in ready support. Aw shit, he couldn't be left behind...

Always vaguely prepared to serve as an extra backup, Johannes took a divebomb towards the Courtyard's crowded floor, snatched up his fallen hat from its (imminently dangerous, trodden-upon) fate and made a controlled drift through the shower of sparks towards Romeo's attacker. "God, if both of you die-" Drawing his wand without his normal flourish, he hoped to hell that the situation wouldn't go that far. His slap-dash part of a plan was a shot in the dark but, with both of his captains already on the offensive and his magic predictably mutinous, it would have to do. "I'm never fucking forgiving it! Expelliarmus!"

His magic - a familiar skin-crawling sensation in its buildup - crowed in satisfaction at the non-aggressive action, but Johann had been Pavlov trained by it too often to be anything but grateful for its easy acceptance of Valentin's plans. His target was distracted, covered in enough blood to look like an axe murderer and clear as could be amid the crowd. If he blew this, he'd never hear the end of it from anyone, his own wand included, but it was not the time to be thinking so pessimistically.

Ethan is so excited to go to the petting zoo with Adelaide! He loves animals and can't wait to see all the different animals up close. However, she says she needs to talk to her friends first. Ethan started to get anxious. He wondered if Adelaide really wanted to go with him or if she was just being polite. He didn't want to be a burden, but he really wanted to spend time with her.

“Oh.” Ethan hears the disappointment in his own voice as he responds to Adelaide, but he tries to shrug it off. “Sure,” He hesitates for a moment before deciding to follow her, thinking that maybe if he made some new friends, he would feel better. So he walks over to the fountain and stands next to Adelaide.

Ethan smiled politely at the two women and extended his arm out in greeting. He had no idea who they were, but Adelaide was friends with them, so he figured it would be rude not to at least be friendly. “It's nice meeting you both,” he said, hoping his smile would convey his sincerity. “I'm Ethan, Adelaide's partner.” He eyed her nervously, hoping she would give him a cue as to who they were.

The Courtyard had, from the start, seemed the only logical place to hold a ball such as the likes of the theme Faerietale Endings. What sort of Faerietale did not in some way incorporate the beauty of a twilit sky, or the delicate sparklings of the silvery stars overhead? The usually drab grey stones of the courtyard appeared almost silver in the almost entirely full light of the waxing moon, just one night away, and every tree and shadow appeared to have a slightly more angular and harsh edge because of Luna's soft yet intense glow. Soft birdsong, difficult to tell if magically or mundanely made, cooed in the black and whispering branches, and a soft, brisk, and rather chilly wind (11 degree Celsius/52 degree Fahrenheit) rattled branches and encouraged the older among the trees to groan in their own eerie melodies. A better evening could not have been asked for save the Highland cold, and tonight in particular seemed to gleam with a mysterious magic of a non-wizard origin.

Sprinkled about the environment lay trademarks of several better-known Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm Brothers fables. Within the courtyard fountain was a small recreation of Thumbelina being introduced to a repulsive toad groom. Opposing it on the far side a single large frog with a golden crown sitting on a lilypad sat with one of his "arms" extended as if to reach out and take a lady (or lad) by the hand for a tender kiss. Both of these floated freely in the water, bobbing here and there and guided by the current of the fountain water. Tangled upon the walls of the courtyard were thousands of blooming flowers mixed with sharp, prickly black thorns. Any self-respecting wandmaker would recognize a collection of well-trimmed blackthorn bushes off in one corner, though these appeared to have been grafted with a rose bush, for there was one red-blooming bush and one white-blooming bush. Not too far away from these was a pile of shoes, mostly leather and rough in make, but both a single "glass" shoe for a young woman barely glittered underneath its mundane fellows and a pair of bright red shoes stuck out like sore thumbs. High up in the tallest tree sat a stuffed plush golden goose in a nest that was angled so that all could see large golden eggs, the prize of most any kleptomaniac to be sure. Underneath a willow tree sat poised a collection of plaster swans, one of which was a small, downy, ugly grey fellow being embraced by one of the larger, more magnificent ones while a family of ducks watched on. Similarly, faux ravens looked down at both the scene below them and outwards towards the main congregation of the celebration with quiet eyes. If a student brushed close enough, it would magically animate, extend charcoal black wings, and have its eyes glow red with an accompanying "Caw, caw, caw!" emanating from it.

Fairy lights (glowing by the bioluminescent light of glow bugs) would offer an almost unnoticeable glow when compared to the light of the moon, their only purpose being to highlight the already bright and colorful bursts of spectrum that were found in the flowers and the leaves of the fall-blossoming plants. Tiny, real fairies, likely drawn in by the color and the ethereal nature of the environment fluttered about here and there, playing with the plush animals or perusing the nearby feast that was laid out. They giggled in a lightly buzzing tone, gesticulating and teasing with one another by pointing out the students that they thought to be less-dressed or less than impressive in their attire than themselves. Other fairies were more content to sit by the water fountain and meddle with the frogs thereon, whereas others flittered in the trees and danced in a way that caused loosened flower petals to be whisked into the air and produce a waltz of their own design.
The Grand Feast:

The warm orange glow of the setting sun cast upon the vicinity had set the courtyard in a picturesque far back in time. As if reliving an old painting from the renaissance or within one's imagination of fairytales brought to life. With the sun disappearing into the horizon and giving way to the shadows of Autumn's early evening, the bronze candelabras on tables and strings of starry fairy lights that hung across the walls of the courtyard would shed light throughout the event, albeit with an almost eerily flickers.

The tables around were dressed in dark linens, with a neat display of silver goblets and silverware set upon. At the further end of the courtyard stood a rather coniferous juniper tree with claw-like branches that cast its shadow on a long rustic mahogany table displaying a delicious array that was to be feasted on. A large brass pot of simmering savoury stew, an impressive platter of pudding and pies of the sort, and a deep bowl of a rich burgundy red beverage to serve with the many intricate goblets that cluttered the table. By the table was a wooden bucket swirling with apples bobbing on the surface, green, pink, red and yellow. Any hungry souls could help themselves to a share of food while it lasted.
By Aurelia Notresvace
Light, mystical music drifted through the air; not sourced by a band or instrument easily visible, but as if by ghostly, phantasmal, omnipresent nature, encouraging couples to dance freely in the central, clearing of the courtyard set aside for a dance floor. Already there were a few of the native ghosts of Hogwarts finding themselves at home in the company of the antique surroundings, as they whispered to one another about their lives and their deaths alike, with especial couples somberly drifting to and fro in a silent waltz among the living and evoking an accidental chill if one came too close to one with still-living flesh.

An eye drifting to the right of the celebration would observe a collection of ill-sprinkled Bernie Bott's Every Flavored Beans, which would lead to but one of the activities of the night...

On the left, a collection of pumpkins of all sizes, faux rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other small woodland creatures would guide anybody who was curious enough to investigate their trail to sights and experiences of the most magical degree...

The night was young, the moon was nearly full, the food and beverages were set. Mystery and trickery hung thick in the skies as an air of excitement, grandeur, and the remotest tingling of trepidation laid eerily present in the vicinity. The 2022 Fall Ball was now begun.

Ah! A new arrival! Come in, come in! The more the merrier, after all. Surely nothing will befall you, good friend! Nothing at all. Please; eat, drink, and be merry dearest Quentin Gagné! Enjoy this night as if it is your last! Indeed, as if these are your last hours!
Quentin Gagné ENTERS the Ball

@Ethan Smith, my good fellow, thank you for being of good cheer. I know not how your little situation with Regina and Faye is going (as they have not posted for a while), but hopefully at least your date with Adelade is going fine. Best determine if she’s a keeper starting young, eh? Or perhaps that is a bit too young… as well, the age gap seems to imply that it is alright, though do try to get your hormones in check before you take things too far; that is a rather good general rule.
Apples & Goblets
Most of the potions on the field by now were that of effects that would last until they were nullified by a restoration draught. A Beetlejuice was still floating around in the crowd if they wanted to try and relieve themselves of the unfortunate effects.
@Astoria Swann: Pompion Potion [d2: 2 (2 rounds); Head is Pumpkin], Potion Effect fades
Nick Iris: Shrinking Solution (+3 Evasion; disadvantage on Strength Checks) Endures until nullified
@Serena Towers: Befuddlement Draught (Animosity towards everyone) Endures until nullified
@Amelia Miller: Sleeping Draught (d2: 2 [-3 Wisdom]) 1 round until unconsciousness unless nullified
Quentin Gagné: Laugh Inducing Potion (d6: 1 [-25HP, -2 Accuracy]) 1 round remains
Newcomer Quentin, who did not know about the little game of poison apple that was floating about the celebration, innocently took a bite out of his apple only to start cackling with laughter seconds later. He probably didn’t even know what was so funny, but he did feel that bubbling need to just let it all go through a hearty laugh that caused his sides to stitch and ache with the force of it. He was getting tears in his eyes with the force of his mirth, making it harder to direct his aim.

Perhaps he was laughing at Astoria Swann, whose Pompion potion was now completely faded away and was now causing the shell of her gourd to flake off in large orange chunks. Look at that, she had her normal head back now!

On the other hand, Miss Amelia Miller would not nearly be having a laughing time herself. Instead, she would feel herself getting increasingly more and more exhausted… She would need to sit down… maybe close her eyes… let out a yawn… Just… take a break… take a rest…
How to Break Up with a Part-Veela (2022, Colorized)
Though the lovely Peafowl had nothing more to say to her rather compromised date, the school’s native Britalian @Piérre Marchonné did. He would attempt to extinguish the flames that were licking up and around the banquet table. Though it was a laughably easy spell to perform; the counter to Incendio and Incendio Duo that all duelists had to learn, the boy certainly had a hard time coaxing it out of his yew and snallygaster heartstring wand [WDC 11; 12 Wisdom] for some reason. Perhaps it was because of the loveliness of Pea, the way she moved or the way that the fire seemed to cause her own white blonde hair to glow a similarly fire red in the light. The boy almost wasn’t able to successfully cast his spell… though he did manage in the end and the leaping flames were patted down… for the time being. Instead, he would take notice of the fact that his twin brother was experiencing a state of distress in the form of a bloody girl who was attempting to fire spells up at him.

Taking advantage of Piérre’s little spiel, @Alec Mason would find the opportunity to finally extricate himself from the little situation that he had put himself in. In a huff he would abandon his date, having effectively broken off their relationship (potentially for good if the situation was not destined to be remedied in the weeks to come), and make tail for the exit… where another group of girls and boy (one of which holding a corpse in arms) were attempting to make their exit as well…

Reveling in her newfound power as others were powerless to stop her, the Real Girl continued to smile up at her Father, a new magic on her lips as she incanted a spell of an ardent degree. ”Incendio!”. A jet of fire would emit from the cherry wand [28 Wisdom] in a spiral of red and orange magics skyward and towards the already pitch black wood of the loyal broom of Romeo Marchonné. Luck continued to stay on the young man’s side, and he once again managed to only just barely evade [TP7, Accuracy 25 v. Evasion 27 Critical Success Evasion] what could have been a severe burn given him by the strange blood-soaked girl. Angered by this evasion of what was her deepest, darkest passions for him, the Real Girl grit her teeth with the early vestiges of a scream in the back of her throat. With a nasty slashing of the cherry wand once more, she would almost scream the next spell; ”STOP HOLDING BACK FROM MEEE! GiVe Me YoUr LoVe! FLIPENDO!” Perhaps her words would come off in the wrong context, especially considering her age compared to the young man himself, though for those who were more deeply entrenched in the actions of this dark creature, her intentions were becoming more clear; just as she had with Lily Brown, this doll intended to in some way claim the life force– likely in the form of the blood– of the virile Durmstrangian.

Regardless, though the second spell was also quite easily summoned [20 Wisdom], something about the Girl’s aim, perhaps the rage that consumed her in that moment, perhaps the presences of those hundreds of eyes upon her, the frantic stress that so many were trying to stop her mission of claiming what was hers, caused her aim to go entirely sideways [TP9, Accuracy 13 Critical Miss; Redirected to Della, 6 Accuracy v. 15 Evasion] and towards one of the few remaining girls who was actively trying to see Lily Brown to safety by exiting through the doors that lead from the Courtyard to the Main Hall. This was dodged easily enough, though the jinx would cause a part of the door to be blown off with the force of the wrathful spell.

The door itself appeared to be of a curious nature, almost like a Schrödinger’s door, if you would. Taisia would attempt the doors and claim them to be ‘locked’, despite the fact that a newcomer had easily entered just moments prior and other individuals had left. But, I will not be the one to cause her panic to be any less real or genuine; perhaps she simply hadn’t had the strength to try and yank the door open harder than she had initially. Perhaps her hands or her grip was shaky. Regardless, she would indeed be unable to open the door due to the psychosomatic component

Ever the gallant hero, Colin McCoire would feel his world and his vision turning red as a far more primal nature gripped his heart and mind. An uncommon Slytherin trait, and much rather that of the house of the lion, the boy would feel the overwhelming need to defend that which was his family, that which he felt he had the lawful obligation to defend and protect from the dark forces which threatened. A victim once to losing one that he cherished and loved most– indeed, a half of his soul that had been stripped away from him too soon– Colin would not permit another familial relationship to be claimed from right under his nose. With long strides befitting his lanky nature as AngelFyre McCubbins followed hot on his heels, the boy lunged for the Real Girl with murder on the mind and with hands outstretched and ready to tackle. Though his aim was mostly true, it was rather shaky [CP2, TP3; Accuracy 23 v. Evasion 23] and would require force of muscle to ensure that the girl would be taken to the ground. But… just as Lily had discovered in her attempts to loose herself from the Girl’s grasp, Colin too would discover that this sticky-skinned creature was much stronger than she first appeared, and with a giggle and a twist, would extricate herself [Strength Check; Colin 23 v. Real Girl 31] from the daring grasps of Colin with little effort. The Real Girl would go so far as to taunt the poor boy with a small wiggling of her fingers down at him as he once again found himself slipping to the ground and having to scramble to his feet just in time to fluidly evade a punch that Romeo Marchonné himself had attempted to swing at the girl [TP2; 22 Accuracy Critical Miss] but had epically botched and sent towards Colin [Redirect Colin; 8 Accuracy v. EM10 (Trigger)] instead.

”Heeheehee! You’re so cuuuute!” She would merrily croon towards the Scottish boy with a tinge of a British accent. No doubt this too was inherited from her unwilling ‘Mother’. ”You keep chasing after meeeee… as if I’m just… irresistible to you.” She reached towards him for only a second, pausing when her fingertips were just barely inches from his face. This action would be interrupted by a white knight… but we will come to that in just a little while.

Shiawise, a brave soul of a student, came up with an innovative strategy that accommodated her strengths. By the use of a clever Levitation charm and prior momentum, she managed to levitate her personal mode of transportation [20 Wisdom] and send it launching towards the Real Girl. Unfortunately, this happened to be a highly unstable method of transport, the whole ‘flying rapidly through the air’ thing. With a miscalculation of her inertia [Control DC15; 8 Critical Failure] and an inability to hold on tight enough to keep her seat [Strength Check DC19(15 + [8/2]); 14], poor Shiawise would find herself prone and without an ability to maneuver herself except by means of her upper body strength. Her wheelchair would land sideways a mere 5 feet away, but it would end up taking a whole action to right it and ensure that she would be able to get her seating again. A valiant effort through and through, but perhaps the mark of greater valiance would be her will to not stay down and to keep pushing on despite the adversities facing her.

Ravenclaw wise Clair would prioritize Lily’s precarious positioning between the veils of life and death as opposed to performing pugilist preparations towards the Real Girl. Instead of magic this time, however, she would attempt to use a Muggle method of healing; that of wrapping fabric about the bleeding. It was better than trying to implement a tourniquet, which she had had the good sense not to attempt on the midriff where it could cause more problems than good. Despite the use of magic and the blood that continued to ooze from the injury, the bandaging attempt went well [DC15 Medicine Check (Wisdom); 17 Wisdom] and the bleeding that the young girl had been experiencing was now contained. Lily is no longer bleeding.

Lily herself would be struggling against the reaper even as these things happened around her. She would attempt her first death saving throw [10 or less indicates failure; 17, Success]. Being young had its benefits, and with the assistance of Clair’s bandage, the girl would stabilize ever so slightly. Things could still go badly for her, but for the time being, she was fighting and fighting well. [Death Save Counter 1-0]

“Hell Chaser”, “White Immortal”, “Niffler” and Seeker of Durmstrang would try his hand next at trying to stop this threat that had dared to target one of his friends. Valentin Schnell would attempt to coax magic out of what had to be his third or fourth wand by now. Despite having a most tumultuous relationship with the Arcane, the Body-Bind Curse that he requested of it came most willingly for him [28 Wisdom] from the excitable wood and would easily strike the Real Girl [Accuracy 23 v. Evasion 16] as she was reaching to brush her reddish fingertips across Colin McCoire’s lips. The Girl’s blue eyes would widen in shock as her arms immediately snapped to her sides and her legs locked, causing her to fall to the ground totally petrified. In addition to the knock she received from falling unceremoniously to the ground, she would struggle to move until she managed to break away [-50HP, Petrified 1 Round or Beat DC10 Strength Check] from the magical bonds. Would this finally be the turning point of the battle?

Brave Taizu would try once again to cast a spell against this threat that had just murdered one of his classmates in broad daylight. With a simple cast [21 Wisdom] of the fire-making spell Incendio, he would attempt to launch a small ball of fire towards the hell-sent Girl. However, something chilling would cause his aim to falter once again, the fire instead skidding across the party [TP1 (Trigger), CP2] and reigniting the banquet table that Piérre Marchonné had literally just extinguished. Well, don’t say that we didn’t try… but this is the exact reason we don’t get nice things, kids.

The next person to try to solve this problem was Gemima. With a blast of white energy, a knockback jinx [26 Wisdom] smashed into but one of the animal statues that followed the path towards the Grounds and the Petting Zoo (which itself actually had a lot of problems going on in it as well). An oversized rabbit with antlers (a jackalope for those who were more familiar with magical creatures) would fly across the area, only barely avoiding the poor children who were in its path as they dove wildly out of the way with screams, and would strike the Real Girl [TP6, CP2; Accuracy 24 v. Evasion 15; -150HP] in the chest as it helped to knock her down [DC20 Strength Check: 13 Critical Failure, Knocked Prone] alongside the effects of the Body-Bind Curse. The Girl was beginning some marks of wear and tear, her skin seeming to slip and roll ever so slightly like a deflated blister. Still, she seemed extremely virile and powerful… it would take more than a few paltry spells to ensure that she would stay down permanently.

Della Barfield would help Taisia and Simon Kincaid in their attempts to evacuate Lily Brown away from immediate danger. Following Taisia’s claim that the door was locked, Della would cast Alohomora before attempting the door herself to ensure that the door would be easily opened regardless of its locked or unlocked state [14 Wisdom]. Nothing would happen; the door was already unlocked. All that they would have to do is push it open and make their exits. Hopefully they would find Polonius Frogge the school nurse. Hopefully it would not be too late for them, hopefully Polonius would be able to help them in time…
Simon Kincaid & Lily Brown EXIT the Ball
(I will still tag Lily for her Death Saves)

Hopefully there would be no lasting aftereffects…

The new Keeper of the Durmstrang team, Johannes Sauer the Lord of Anarchy and Devourer of Herterosexuality, though last to act, would not be left behind in the flow of combat. With a swoop like his Beater and Seeker captains, he would cast a very potent [31 Wisdom Critical Cast] Disarming Charm to negate the Real Girl’s ability to cast spells as she was struck by the Petrification Curse and the Knockback Jinx simultaneously. Unfortunately, just as a similar cast perfectly performed earlier by Illowy Magnard had been, Johannes’ spell would not find purchase on the twisted Real Girl, striking the stone jackalope statue [TP8; Accuracy 23 v. Evasion 28] instead and being subsequently dissipated against it. Even outnumbered… this Girl was putting up a surprisingly good fight.

As the fight raged on, more strange things continued to occur. Things kept… disappearing, if you would. Over the sound of screaming and spells exploding all around the area, constant jingling like the sounds of ghostly chains of Jacob Marley continued to endure.

A small black platypus creature would be found rooting around near the Banquet Table despite the threat of fire just over its head. It was quite enjoying getting to tap and grasp the shiny goblets; tucking the ones that did not immediately revert into animals into its pouch [CG35 (Visible), KE5, 19 Wisdom] with indescribable glee. With excited chattering, it would run between the legs of Pea Elana Fowl, Alec Mason, and Piérre Marchonné as it tried to spot its next victim.

The Black Platypus’ perfect opposite, a white critter would be found sniffing around in an area that was of sparse pickings. Evidently it was more focused on trying to stay low and below the radar as opposed to actively trying to steal anything from anyone… for the time being, this Niffler was a cute thing to look at [CG35, KE3, 14 Wisdom; Stealth 6]… but who knew how long that would last before it spotted something that it really wanted to get its paws on?

The blending of black and white formed the color grey, and this Niffler in particular seemed hell-bent on causing issues. Having spotted a beautiful nacre necklace around the throat of an unsuspecting Castelobruxo student. Soraria would feel a small nip right at the nape of her neck as her pearl necklace was suddenly snapped away [CG83 (Hidden), KE4, 28 Wisdom (Soraia Sampiao’s Peal Necklace) | Stealth 11 v. Perception 6] from her with a small spilling of the pearls off the string. The tiny mummified bacteria that were produced in the heart of an oyster were scrambled across the ground, only to be picked up by paws that hastily stuffed both the necklace and the straggling pearls. No matter how hard Soraia would look, she would not spot the perpetrator of the crime. What a shame!

The last of these was a chocolate Niffler who tried to leap onto the face of Marcel Wheatley in an attempt to steal the one thing that helped the poor child see. Despite the Niffler’s best attempts, it would not succeed [CG61, KE3, 24 Wisdom (Marcel Wheatley’s Glasses) | Stealth 9 v. Perception 12; Niffler Visible], and Marcel would keep his glasses as he watched a brown Niffler take to its heels and escape to the best of its ability back into the crowd.

A fight and a band of Nifflers wreaking chaos as they stole whatever their greedy little paws could nab… What was going to happen next?!

Niffler: A magical beast with a long snout and a coat of black, fluffy fur. They are attracted to shiny things, which makes them wonderful for locating treasure, but it also means that they can wreak havoc if kept (or let loose) indoors. Nifflers in general are usually harmless.

OOC Guidelines:
Reducio
Welcome to the 2022 Fall Ball Faerietale Endings. I hope you enjoy your stay. Just a few reminders and guidelines so that we can all enjoy our happy and/or tragic endings!
  1. Make sure your ducks are in a row when trying to perform an action! State when you are using an action and or an ability (so I can keep track of limits on the use of ability), name allies/enemies if required by an ability, state in your roleplay if you bring certain potions and items (organizing these as well as statistics and abilities in a reducio at the bottom of your post is helpful so that I can note them for ease of moderation, but you are not obligated to do so).
    - To perform statistically related actions, you have to be registered in the Index and must have a Trunk with statistics and abilities.

    - To cast spells, you have to have them in your trunk and must use the EXACT INCANTATION; failure to do so will result in an automatic critical failure on casting and a subsequent backfire!

    - To use a potion, you must have the potion on your person (stated in IC roleplay) and have the potion on hand in your trunk (OOC). When using a potion as an action, you must send me the potion (so I can affirm in moderation that you have used it), and I in turn forward it to the Game Master account (as a papertrail).

    - Any attempt made to perform more than one Action in a round (cast a spell, perform a statistical check, make an attack, imbibe a potion, etc.) results in an automatic failure of the second action and may be accompanied by a backfire/adverse effect.
  2. In your post, state a performed action (so I can moderate you properly). If you change locations, state that you do so in your post as your action. Yes, it does take an action to leave the ball and move to another location.
  3. IC, this area is being watched over by @Piérre Marchonné & @Aurelia Notresvace.
  4. Follow rules of the site; no godmodding me, other players, etc. Keep it PG-13. Be polite. Etc.
  5. If you have any questions on actions or disputes on moderation rolls (I am human), feel free to contact me via owl or Discord (check Piérre's encyclopedia for the username).

    Do try to enjoy yourselves...
MOD NOTICE:
