"Hufff...what should I do? Idiot!" Colin heard the familiar voice of self-beratement. He'd used it on himself a time or two (or twenty thousand!) when it came to Clair and all the missteps he seemed to make with her. The poor object of the torture was Rina Sousa, Colin's house mate. He narrowed his eyes as he carefully set his satchel on the table and sat down across from her. Maybe she would become something else as well?
He smirked at her hand covered face.
Mimicking her posture, he too slouched forward and propped his elbows on the table. Only he didn't cover his face. He cradled it in his hands though so he could see her whenever Rina decided to look up again. She had assignments spread out around her, so maybe the work was hard? Colin would try to help her if he could.
Colin watched her silently for a moment as she seemed to be having a private meltdown of some kind. Hmm. Charms. For some people that would cause a crisis! Colin smiled. He decided that Irina had suffered alone for long enough. He decided to try something different, rather than calling her 'sis' like he usually did. He looked towards where he knew her eyes would be and said in a low voice: "Hey cutie! Who's calling you an idiot?"
He paused for a second, to see if she heard. "Do you know, Rina, I had that dream again! The one about Clair and me walking in the moonlight? Only it wasn't just me. There were other wolves there too. What do you think that might mean?"
Colin leaned forward a bit, his head still cupped in his hands, waiting to see what her reaction would be!

“My birthday is on February 16th! How about yours?” I saw a faint blush tainting her cheeks as she answered that slightly puzzled me but I just jotted it down as a “girl thing” and moved on.
“I’m the 18th of December, I’m older than you!” I laughed, sticking my tongue out.
Then…
How dare she? Miss ‘You’re going to lose’ will see! I best everyone in my family at Gobstones!
“Sorry for what?” I turned red, I never expected her to actually hear me! Maybe I spoke louder than I thought! I lifted my head up and looked at her sheepishly.
“For staring,” I answered, blushing at the admittance. I’m sure she doesn’t want someone like me staring at her! Now that I hear about her interests and smells… I bet she definitely doesn’t want some random kid staring at her when she has a boyfriend. At least… I think?
The topic was changed thank Merlin and I half listened as she drones on about what she was talking about. I was focussing on my heart-shattering revelation. Of course she is preoccupied with another bloke. I scoffed. Colin? Colin of all people? Come on Ree, you can do better!
I imagined myself hugging her after class and being the only person she looks to with that expression. A laugh reserved for me when I tell her an inside joke only we know about.
“Will be the best Christmas break ever!” she claimed, a smile growing as was the happiness with each letter never mind word. I grinned too, nothing was set in stone yet but I could be visiting my Grandad Wesley! “No, I don't have a pet yet! But I want to buy a spider!”
I thought I was about to be sick.
“Aaah, Ree! What is wrong with you!” I exclaimed loudly, not caring s but when I was hissed at to “Shhhh” by the students in here, mainly Ravenclaw. “Mind your own bloody business!” I snapped angrily, honestly! Nosy bleeders, the lot of em! “A spider? They are creepy and crawly and big!” I shuddered.
That’s when it all went downhill…
She mentioned helping me with my flying and I had that mini anxiety attack before fleeing to the bathroom.
I was walking as fast as I could, head down and bumping into whomever wouldn't move out the way. I didn't even care where I went, my legs just carried me away as I fled like a coward.
"Aww, is Luci gonna cry?" teased Harrison, a boy at a party the Mornstern's were invited to. Lucian glared at him; his small fists balled into rocks of anger. "He is getting angry too! I think I see a tear!" 4-year-old Lucian wiped the small drops of water from his face, looking at his cut knee from where he was just pushed over and turned and ran, panic flashing on his face when he heard the older boy chase after him.
"Ahh--"6-year-old Lucian yelled in anger as his book was thrown over his head. "Give it back Ian!" he yelled, fists balling. "Stop being a- a ruddy nitwit!"
Ian laughed, "Is my baby cousin too scared to swear," he said to his friend, Lee. "Honestly. --Boo!" Lucian flinched as he jolted forward.
"You're such a wuss!" Lee rolled his eyes and pushed him to the floor before walking away with Ian.
"Give me back my book!" screamed Lucian, scrambling to his feet, red-hot anger boiling in his veins. Ian turned to face Lucian and held the book in his hands, it was gift from Lucian's grandad. A book on dark magic he told Lucian he wanted him to read. Adrian would be mad and disappointed if he didn't!
"You want your book?" he asked mockingly, before opening it and ripping out loads of pages. From the start, the middle and the end before spitting on the book and throwing it away from him. "Hogwarts will eat you alive, Lucy!" he teased.
I looked up and saw that I had almost walked into a suit of armour.
I shook my head and tucked myself away in the abandoned toilets. “Stupid. Stupid. Stupid,” I repeated softly, raking a hand through my hair. “Why am I so stupid!”
All she said was that she was offering me flying lessons! Why am I making such a big bloody deal about it. It was in the—
“Hey. You okay?” I looked and saw a boy around 13 looking at me. He wore red robes and blonde hair.
"Fine,” I replied tersely, wishing he would leave.
“You don’t look fine,” he replied, a smirk on his lips.
“Oh yeah. There are loads of things I don’t look,” I spoke cryptically. Standing up again, I walked to the mirrors and looked at myself.
"Mardy, aren’t we? You look a bit peaky,” he commented, sitting on the side.
I let out a huffy laugh, "Thanks mate," I replied, splashing water on my face. "Look. I’m fine. Just having a bad time,"
Panic attack in front of the girl I like after finding out she potentially already has a boyfriend, that boy being my dorm mate and friend.
“C’mon. Tell meee. Maybe I can give you some advice?” I looked at him, blue eyes twinkling bright. I realised, I didn’t even ask why he was in the abandoned toilets. Curiosity gnawed at my chest.
“Why are you here?” I countered.
“You answer first!"
And I did.
I told him about Irina (not naming her of course and not giving a description) and how she may be going out with another boy. I told him about my fear of flying, the reason why.
Although I kept my Lycan problems safe. I wasn’t spilling them anytime soon.
He clasped my shoulder, I clenched my jaw, his hold tight. "Listen, you’re 11 mate. 3 years time, and you’re not gonna give two shits about girls! Too busy studying for exams," I pulled a face, exams suck.
“Yeah, I guess…” I said nonchalantly.
“And with the flying thing, start small. Sure, you nearly died. If you didn’t show any magic and fell then you probably would have died, but you didn’t!” I nodded, listening to what he was saying. “Your friend wants to help you fly again, start small. Have something soft under you so if you fall it won’t hurt?"
I grinned slowly, maybe he was right. I was quiet, stuck in my own head as I pondered. What was the thing that scared me the most about flying?
It wasn’t heights, or, at least, not really. The most scary thing….
shwoosh… shwoosh
I swallowed, adjusting my glasses.
The world going around and around. Green and blue mixing
"I don’t want to fall again," I murmured, letting any remaining barriers down. "It was so embarrassing when I fell that time. My family likes flying. Dad was a chaser. I felt like a failure!"
"Falling doesn’t make you a failure, but staying down does. You’re only 11 now. No one expects you to be great at it,” I peered at him, a small smile gracing my lips.
Falling doesn’t make you a failure. But staying down does.
A weight was lifted off my chest. I felt better. “Thanks!” I forgot all about asking him why he was here. But I did remember- “Wait-” I skidded to a stop. “What’s your name?”
“Rowan,”
“Thank you Rowan! I’m Lucian!” and then I ran out and headed back to the library.
I was going to take Ree up on that offer.
“What would you like to go see first? A movie? A football game? Perhaps we can play quidditch in my backyard and I can help you fly again!”
I was already planning my reply.
“Ree! Sorry for that. Yes, I would love to play Quidditch with you!… No,” I amended again, “I’m back! I had to go— Definitely not,”
I hopped down the stairs.
“Reeee I’m back! About what you said, if it’s still okay, I would love to go— Oh,” I stared at the table we were sat at. “Erm. H- hi Colin,” I stammered, looking at them both. “What- what are you doing here? Do you need me to… to go?” I asked, looking at my feet a little as I thought I was intruding.
See. She cares about you that much, she asked for her other friend to join her when you left after a hissy fit! My cheeks felt heated, did she not want me to come back? Did she say something to me as I left, and I just didn't hear her?
I stared at them, looking around anxiously, making stuttering movements to leave.

The first thing that reached her was his familiar sent, something between wild nature and green leafs. He always make her remember of the Dark Forest, the trees and the running rivers and…something else she couldn’t quite figure…but was something that unsettled her every time. Then she heard something being put on top of her table and a chair being pulled back while he was sitting across from her. She kept her hands covering her face while embarrassment was draining out of her system.
“Hey cutie! Who's calling you an idiot?" She heard him say and she finally looked at him, lifting slowly her head up and holding her face in between her hands, “Cutie?!” She smirked at him, “that’s new!” She said with a small giggle and then she sighed before answering to his question, “Me…I’m calling myself idiot!” Then she leaned back on her chair crossing her arms at her chest and looking at the table, but her eyes weren’t focusing at any particular spot, “Sometimes I think…somehow I have the gift to say the wrong things at the wrong time! I genuinely don’t know what have I said to upset him like that!” She looked at Colin again with pleading eyes, “Am I that insensitive?” She asked him.
After a moment of silence Colin decided to change the subject, perhaps to lighten the mood and make her feel better, distracting her from what happened, "Do you know, Rina, I had that dream again! The one about Clair and me walking in the moonlight?” Irina remembered last time she saw the draw in his sketchbook when the Snek Squad met to make their fake permission to Hogsmeade. A beautiful girl with long hair, a wolf next to her and the bright full moon was casting its light over them…”Only it wasn't just me. There were other wolves there too. What do you think that might mean?" Colin finished his question intensifying his stare at her, like he was evaluating every single bit of her reaction. Unconsciously she caught her breath and let her mouth open slightly in surprise…when she noticed that, she tried to keep her breathing steady and at a normal pace, not wanting to show how that question had really affected her. “I…” She took a deep breath, “I…don’t know! I…I’m not that curious for divination!” She answered with a weak smile because that was such a big lie. First she was curious about divination and second she always had searched for ways to decipher her own dreams…more her nightmares to be precise! But before she was able to see and hear Colin’s reaction, Lucian had arrived again to their table.
“Reeee I’m back! About what you said, if it’s still okay, I would love to go— Oh,” Luci started to say, but then he stopped looking at her and then to Colin, “Erm. H- hi Colin,” he greeted the blond-haired boy that now was seated at his chair, “What- what are you doing here? Do you need me to… to go?” He finished asking and looking down at his feet appearing a little embarrassed and out of place. Why would he feel like that? Weren’t they all friends? Why would they wanted him to leave? “No!” Maybe she had answered that to much louder then she pretended! She looked around and muttered her apologies to a group of students that were closer to their table. Then she looked at Lucian feeling her cheeks getting warm again, “Of course not! Why would we want you to leave?” She added sheepishly. “Right?” She asked glancing at Colin.
Pulling back the chair that was next to her she mentioned to Lucian to seat, “Please, you can seat here if you want!” She said with a timid smile hoping that the boy wasn’t really leaving the library…and her.

I felt awkward as I stood here, feeling like a deer in front of headlights. “No!” she said a little loudly and it felt like everyone was staring at us. Oh yeah. Because they were. She turned back to me with colouring on her cheeks. “Of course not! Why would we want you to leave? Right?” she asked, looking at Colin.
“Well- well Colin is here!” I added under my breath, sure they couldn’t hear me, “And in my seat,” I licked my lips and played with my family ring. “Its okay though, r- really! I- I get I just walked off in a- a mard!” I took a quiet breath, calming myself down. Maybe she really didn’t want me to leave, she looked sincere, and if she didn’t me here then she would say.
Pulling back the chair that was next to her she mentioned for me to sit, “Please, you can sit here if you want!” she said with a small smile. I licked my lips before making my way over and sitting down, I sent her a smile caked with gratitude before turning to Colin.
“Hullo mate,” I greeted, wishing to put the past 20 seconds behind us. “What are we talking about?”

Colin smiled at Irina. Daydreamy thoughts of himself and Clair mingled with Irina's reaction to his greeting. She seemed surprised he called her 'cutie' --- well, she was! Colin shrugged. So are Charlie and June and Sophia and Gem and Pax and Pea and so many other girls! Colin wondered at that. What had made Jarael so different before? She was much more than cute, though went away before he could properly figure her out. And now there was Clair. She was so much more than just cute! Somehow, she had gone from being a) a friend and b) a cute girl to being c) the beautiful girl that had captured his heart.
"I genuinely don’t know what have I said to upset him like that! Am I that insensitive?" Rina said. Colin's brows furrowed. Clearly Rina was upset. He knew the feeling of being stupid around a girl. Colin had no idea who 'he' was, but he could guess who the boy might be! She seemed oddly flustered by his comment about his dream with Clair. Those had become very frequent. He wondered if she ever dreamed about him?
Colin was about to ask about her strong reaction to his dream comment when a familiar voice suddenly spoke. “Reeee I’m back! About what you said, if it’s still okay, I would love to go— Oh. Erm. H- hi Colin. What- what are you doing here? Do you need me to… to go?”
Colin turned at the sound, watching as Lucian stammered. The boy looked down at his feet. Wait. Is he blushing!? And then Rina practically yelled for Luci not to go! Colin thought for sure the librarian would hear the commotion! Certainly everyone within about fifty yards of where they were sitting heard her carrying on!
Colin was smiling broadly now. He looked around, noticed how quite a few students around them were all staring at Rina. And --- wait, is she blushing too!? What's going on here? He almost laughed as she turned to him to ask if Luci could sit with them! As if he could give permission!
Tears formed in Colin's eyes. Not because he was sad or anything! But because of the way his friends were carrying on! Plus, he heard Luci say that he'd sat in the boy's seat. Brilliant! And as if he'd planned the whole thing, Rina asked Luci to sit next to her! Oh, this was first class material, and it was all happening right in front him! Colin knew he'd had plenty of moments with Clair, and for once it kind of nice to see he wasn't alone in causing such embarrassment!
Lucian finally put more than two non-mumbled words together: “Hullo mate. What are we talking about?”
Colin shook his head slightly. He noticed that there were still quite a few kids watching the drama unfold. He narrowed his eyes at some Ravenclaws. "Oi! Noses back in yer books! There's nothing more to see here! Just two lovebirds trying to sort themselves out, as you can plainly see!" he said rather loudly.
Turning back to Rina and Luci with a smile, he said: "Well, mate, it looks like you should be talking about where to take your cute lassie here!" Colin laughed, a little nervously. "I know the look, lad. I wear it every day. Um. I think it's me that should be going."

She was looking anxiously at Lucian, hoping that whatever he was thinking would just fade from his mind and he would stop acting this way. She felt kind of lost, not sure what had she done or said wrong for him to suddenly look so out of place. It was never her intention to make him feel like that…whatever his feelings were! Nothing was making sense to her! His attitude, the way he was talking…but worse, the way she was feeling was inevitability letting her feeling confuse. She felt…desperate and…guilty! Why in hell would she feel guilty? She was doing nothing wrong…at least as far as she was aware. But he was giving her that energy vibe that she had hurt him somehow…he seemed very upset, and she didn’t wanted him to go like that, not when she was sensing that something was missing between them.
The way her voice came out though…even she got surprised with how quickly and loudly she asked him to not leave. She was now looking expectantly at the tall dark-haired boy hoping she had convinced him to stay.
She felt relief and a heaviness lift from her chest when he decided to sit down in the chair beside her. He smiled at her and whatever was weighing in his thoughts moments ago, seemed to had disappeared. Recognising it, a happy and warm smile also found it’s way to her lips.
“Hullo mate,” He greeted Colin, “What are we talking about?”
Okay, what were they talking about? Irina couldn't quite remember, so she made a mental effort to recall the conversation she was having with Colin…Yeah…she felt drained again, we were talking about wolves, moonlight and Clair. She had just lied to him, with every single tooth in her mouth.
But Colin just shook his head. His face full of amusement. His eyes were wet from tears…why is he crying? Irina felt slightly concerned with her friend. Was she so distracted with Lucian that hadn’t notice something happened to Colin? She saw him narrow his eyes at some students that were looking their way, also with a teasing and amusing look in their features. Why were those birds looking at her like that? "Oi! Noses back in yer books! There's nothing more to see here! Just two lovebirds trying to sort themselves out, as you can plainly see!"Colin practically yelled at them. Lovebirds? What the hell is he talking about? She looked around then, searching the nature of Colin’s statement. But all she could see was people staring at them, others still reading some book or writing something in their parchments. There was no one snogging or hugging or…doing whatever lovebirds do! She hadn’t seen movies or series enough to be an expert about that subject! Turning her gaze again back to Colin she noticed he was looking at her and Lucian with an odd and taunting smile, “Well, mate,” he finally answered to Lucian, “it looks like you should be talking about where to take your cute lassie here! I know the look, lad. I wear it every day. Um. I think it's me that should be going."
Irina felt speechless. She was astonished looking at Colin, mouth slightly open in total surprise. What? What look? Why should he leave? She looked at Lucian trying to read some clue in him that could help her figure out what was Colin talking about, but Luci wasn’t looking at her, actually, he seemed to be avoiding doing that. She noticed his face was gaining a red tone beneath his olive skin color and she felt her own cheeks getting warmer and her heart started to race while a feeling of embarrassment and understanding slowly washed over her. “Colin…” Her voice sounded weak and came out almost in a whisper. She then cleared her throat gaining some composure, “Colin, what are you talking about?” She said nervously looking between him and Lucian trying to look completely oblivious to the meaning of her friend’s words…and failing completely!

“Oi! Noses back in yer books! There's nothing more to see here! Just two lovebirds trying to sort themselves out, as you can plainly see!” I looked and saw he was talking to a few stragglers that were staring at us.
I blushed at that and scratched at my hair. Was it that obvious how my heart beat for her, like a caged bird begging to be free. Ree looked confused.“Just two loverbirds,”
Wait.
If he was calling us lovebirds…
“Does this mean you two aren’t a thing?” I couldn’t help but ask. I felt stupid as soon as I said it but oh well. They just seemed… I don’t know. Was I getting too head over heels earlier? Too presumptuous?
“Well, mate, it looks like you should be talking about where to take your cute lassie here!" Colin laughed but there was an air of nervousness about him. "I know the look, lad. I wear it every day. Um. I think it's me that should be going." I could see that Ree’s mouth was slightly open as I stared at Colin with a blush, actively avoiding Irina’s look. My cheeks gradually got redder and redder.
“Colin…” Ree’s voice sounded weak and came out almost in a whisper. Well done Colin! “Colin, what are you talking about?” I glared at Colin subtly.
“He’s- he’s just teasing. Right Colin?” I said, kicking him under the table. Of course he would know all the looks and subtly signs I send her day in and day bloody out. He himself was infatuated with Clair Fernandez.
“Just because you have a bird—” I felt proud of myself for the pun, “—you’re pinning over, doesn’t mean we all do!” what if he lets the ball drop? He can’t! Not this early on!
“Urm, so Ree. Tell me more about Muggles! What, erm… what do they do for fun?” I asked despite having a feeling we had sort of had this talk before. The conversation needed to shift.

Charms and Muggle Talk?

Oh, this was delicious! This chance meeting had not turned out the way Colin expected at all! At first, he was just messing around a bit, going after the group of Ravenclaws at the next table, but it suddenly felt like he'd actually hit on something here! He felt like a quidditch seeker who had just caught sight of the snitch!
For a moment, neither of his friends said a word. Colin tried hard to keep from laughing too hard as he looked from Rina to Luci and back again. Rina's mouth hung open in shock and surprise, and Luci just looked confused! Colin knew very well what it looked like to be into a girl and he really thought these two might be into each other! Right or wrong, he was going Colin decided to get to the heart of the matter.
"Colin, what are you talking about?" Rina asked at last. Colin thought it was rather obvious, but when Luci spoke, he dropped a veritable dungbomb!
"Does this mean you two aren’t a thing?" Colin's own eyes opened wide at that question. For a moment, Colin sat speechless, so unexpected as that question. Of course, Irina was a pretty girl, but --- whoa.
Luci plowed on, though: “He’s- he’s just teasing. Right Colin?”
"OW!!!" cried Colin. Luci had frantically kicked his leg under the table. Lucian looked almost --- panicked? Wh---!?
Before Colin could say anything, Luci cut him off: “Just because you have a bird you’re pining over, doesn’t mean we all do!”
Colin rolled his eyes at Luci's pun. He knew what bird meant! Bird meant Ravenclaw, and Ravenclaw meant Clair! Then when Luci tried to change the subject by asking Rina about muggles, Colin cut back in. "Now hang about, lad!" Colin looked across at Luci. "Tsk! Look at you two, all ablush! No, Luci, me and Rina aren't a thing!" Colin said with a wry smile. How could he even think that? "No, laddie, I think she's got eyes for you!"

Charms and Muggle Talk?

Dialogue: X | Thoughts: X
If she could, she would have disappeared in that moment. If it wasn’t that awkward she would have hidden herself under the table until she would feel ready to properly act and find the right words to say.
Lucian was still avoiding looking at her, but he seemed to had realize something when he unexpectedly asked Colin, “Does this mean you two aren’t a thing?” Irina felt even more astonished at hearing that. “What?” Was the only word she was able to mutter. Looking from one to another, trying to understand what was going on in there. Is that a boy talk? Like…were they talking in some boy’s code? But Colin didn’t seemed to understand either, at least he was also speechless and looking as surprise as she was.
“He’s- he’s just teasing. Right Colin?” Lucian assured launching a suspicious look at the older boy. Yeah they were definitely talking in signs, Irina concluded when she heard Colin cry of pain. She looked quickly under the table to see what had hurt him, but seeing nothing she thought he had hit accidentally the table or something else. “Are you okay?” She softly asked to her friend, but he seemed not to be listening to her.
“Just because you have a bird you’re pining over, doesn’t mean we all do!” Lucian teased back Colin, before turning finally to her and ask her for more funny muggle things. “Uhhhh…We…well…we can talk about…” but she couldn't finish the sentence, Colin didn't felt like changing the subject and interrupted her, “Now hang about, lad!" Colin started looking at Lucian, "Tsk! Look at you two, all ablush! No, Luci, me and Rina aren't a thing!" Right, she hadn’t said nothing about it! “Ye…yeah we’re not a thing! Definitely not a thing!” She confirmed nodding enthusiastically and waving dismissively with her hands. Where did he get that idea from? She thought feeling slightly amused.
"No, laddie, I think she's got eyes for you!" Colin finished and Irina froze in place again. “Oooh” She groaned, covering her face with both hands and resting her elbows on the table. “What the hell Colin!” She cursed in a breath looking at the blond boy between her fingers. Her stare was a pleading and a warning, “Please…” she whispered to him, her cheeks blushing deeply.
