Snakes and Eagles Don't Play Nice
Place: Quidditch Pitch
Date: Saturday, October 15, 2022
Time: Afternoon, the day after the game of Slytherin vs. Ravenclaw
The second string Keeper of the Cloud Cobras ambled onto the Quidditch pitch with his broom, geared up and ready to practice. He couldn't help thinking about the game the previous day and how well his teammates had performed despite Ravenclaw's dirty tactics. It made him want to actually try to work on his skill and get good at the sport despite his initial dislike of it.
Once he got onto the pitch, however, he saw he wasn't alone. A boy his age with dark brown hair who Jack recognized from the game the previous day was there already. He was one of the Ravenclaw team's beaters.
"Hey!" he called, eyes narrowing as he approached the other fourth year, broom in hand. "What's the big idea with your Chaser trying to blatch our Beater, huh? Do you eagles always resort to cheating to try and win? As if the game wasn't already dangerous enough with bludgers around! If you bird-brains are so smart, how come you couldn't think up a more decent strategy?"
Jack knew he shouldn't have gotten so worked up over something as small as that, but he couldn't help thinking about if Flash had been on the field and someone had tried to blatch him. Erin, as the target of the attack, could have gotten seriously injured if Cecily hadn't missed. In fact, the stunt had been so damaging that in missing, they had even hit their own teammate.

Damion had lost the match yet again. He was really angry at himself; well the only person he could really be mad at for not winning the match was himself and he didn't have anyone else that could be the target of his anger now did he? He was not sure why after everything they were unable to win the match at all. Every time he had been knocked out of the broom... Why did that always happen to him. He was muttering to himself as he walked to the field where the match had just been held, the day before.
Maybe he wanted to see how he could get better or maybe he wanted to see how things were after their team had lost the match. He was strolling with his mind still going back to the match that they had lost. Something about the way they had lost was not getting out of his mind.
"Hello" He said looking at the other Fourth Year student. "Well you might talk big game, mister Benched Keeper." He said. "My team plays the game right. Irrespective of what you think." He said. He looked at him. "My team has a decent strategy." He added looking at him.
Damii was not wanting to call names to anyone but he felt really bad that someone was targeting his team and their game play. His team had done a good job. They might not have won but they still tried their best.

The redhead felt the anger rise in him like a predatory beast as the Ravenclaw responded, noting that none of his questions had actually been answered. Perhaps this kid really was a bird-brain. Or maybe he had gotten hit one too many times in the head with a bludger.
"You call the illegal move of 'blatching' playing the game right? You call cheating a decent strategy? I may not have actually been on the field and I don't really even like quidditch, but even I know what you guys did out there was wrong. How could you deny that it wasn't? Do you really trust your teammates so blindly that you'll go along with whatever they say even if it's the wrong thing to do? Don't you have a brain of your own?"
As Jack spoke, he stepped closer and closer to the beater, sticking his index finger in his chest and jabbing it with each question he asked. "My teammates could have been seriously hurt out there because of you guys! In fact, your stupid strategy even hurt your own teammate! What do you have to say about that? Still think it was a decent one?"
He shook his head. "With players like you and tactics like that, no wonder you guys lost. That was absolutely disgraceful."

Oh boy! This was going to be harder than admitting his feelings for someone. Well he had lost yet another Quidditch Match. He had not won a match till now. He sighed as he walked to the Pitch where he had just lost the match the previous day.
Damion looked at the other boy. Jack was his name he thought. “Well if it’s such an illegal move, then why does everyone do it.” He asked. He was not going to listen to what Jack had to say about his team. “Oh really. So you don’t like Quidditch and yet you have the balls to tell us what we are doing right or wrong. Who do you think you are? King of Quidditch. Oh right, you don’t play it or well like it even so you can’t be the king of it.” He said. “Well following my teammates, is better than being a bum on the bench.” He said looking at him. “Oi! Don’t you dare think that I don’t have a mind of my own. I do. But I follow what the captain says. Something you would know if you actually played the game than being benched. ”
Damion looked at the boy as he felt Jack’s finger jabbing him on his chest. “Well so could mine.” he said. He didn’t care that Jack was hurting him a little. He looked at him again and shook his head. “Well everything has it’s own pros and con. Not every strategy is perfect. ” He said. He pushed Jack’s hands away. “Keep your long fingers to yourself.” He said. He looked at him and shook his head.
Damion watched as he heard what Jack was saying. “Hey even if we lost the match, it makes me feel good that I was a part of the team and not just someone who was sitting in the corner like a child scared of going away.” He said. “Tell me something, Child, are you scared of flying? Is that why you don’t come on the field?” He asked smirking.

"'Everyone'? You mean people who can't think of anything better to do?" Jack asked, sounding unimpressed. "Just because it's common doesn't make it okay. This is exactly the sort of reason why I don't like quidditch - because players like you make it so unsafe! You know why I joined this team? To watch out for - for a dormmate of mine," he said, hesitating momentarily. He had almost used the word 'friend'. "And I'm glad I did, because if blatching is commonplace, that's just ridiculous! The rules are there for a reason!"
He looked the other boy, Damion, straight in the eye as he was told not to dare think he didn't have a mind of his own. Jack shifted his weight onto his other leg and crossed his arms over his chest after his hands were pushed away. "How can you say you have a mind of your own when you just admitted to following what your captain says? It obviously didn't occur to you to propose anything different."
Exhaling deeply when the Ravenclaw started talking about how he felt good that he had at least been a part of his team rather than sitting in the corner like a child, Jack fought the extreme urge to roll his eyes. Did this kid really think name-calling and insults like that were going to get to him?
As if in a wordless response to the question, mounted the Firebolt in his hand, never taking his eyes off of Damion for a second, and pushed off into the air. "That answer your question?" he asked when he was about 10 feet high. Then he smirked. "Eagles aren't the only ones who know how to fly, you know."

Damion shook his head as he what Jack was saying. "Oi! Don’t you dare imply this on me." He said getting really angry at Jack. "I have better things to do than what you think I do in Quidditch." Damion said getting a little angry about the fact that he was being implicated for the wrong doings. "Don’t I know that." He said sarcastically. "Oh wow says the person who is in the Quidditch Team. And well sits on the bench instead of helping the team win." Damion said mocking him. "Aww how thoughtful." Damion rolled his eyes as he looked at him. "So while you play babysitter for your dormmate, don’t criticize others how they play the game that you are scared of even trying." He looked at him and shook his own head. "Yeah rules can be bent and molded according to what the captain says. By the way, who cares about the rules, they are more like guidelines anyways."
Damion looked at him as he noticed him shifting his weight from one leg to another. Oh boy! Damion was becoming more and more cautious of his surroundings. "Well in the team sport, you usually do what your captain says. Okay. So if you don’t do it that way you are a bad team mate." He said. He looked at him and rolled his eyes at him. "Well whatever I did suggest to my captain or I didn’t suggest I am not going to tell you about it." He said.
Damion was not sure why he had gotten so protective of his team. He didn’t want anyone saying anything about his team and how they played. He wouldn’t hear anything about it. He was trying to be good and be a good team player.
Damion watched Jack mount his Firebolt and push off in the air. Show off! "Oh really! If you are not scared of riding a broom, then why are you always benched?" He asked. "is it because your team doesn’t trust you to do good in the field?" He said. "well yeah clearly. Snakes also know how to fly." he said mocking him.

"It's not that I'm scared of trying!" Jack shot back, feeling his face heat up. "I just haven't been given the chance to play yet! I can't help it if our team's so good, they don't even need my help to win. It's not like I can do anything about that. Nor would I want to!" Certainly he was actually very glad they didn't need his help to win because he wasn't sure about how much help he could have actually brought to the team had they actually needed him. Not that this kid needed to know that.
"'Guidelines'?! The rules exist for a reason! It's been that way for hundreds of years!" the redhead yelled, exasperated. "If you treat them like guidelines, naturally someone's going to get hurt, you idiot!"
He huffed when the Ravenclaw said he wasn't going to tell him what he did or didn't suggest to his captain. "I'll bet that's because you didn't suggest anything at all. You just followed orders like a good little brainless teammate."
When he was asked why he was always benched, Jack took his hands off his broom to spread them in an incredulous gesture. "I'm always benched because our keeper does her job just fine without needing me to replace her! Duh!" While he knew the last part was a bit childish, he couldn't help adding it in anyway.
Lowering himself back down on his broom, he hopped off and began to walk toward the locker room. "You know what? I'm done here. I've made my point. Next time you and your team come out on the field, maybe come up with a real strategy. One that doesn't require breaking any rules or hurting any people to win."
