Yeah, I know what each of them do, I didn't know if they canceled eachother out like Terrible Presence and Calming Presence do.

I guess it depends on what you want to do, were you going to pick any of the 3 wizarding sports or no? If you don't do the wizarding sports and just want it for rp flavor, it doesn't really matter much and sometimes you can even just do rp flavor without even taking the abilities. But for modded circumstances you'd need the abilities.

Calming Presence for Broom Racing.
I found someone who had it and they stated this in their first post in the match.

Effect: An aura of calm. Allies (defined at the START of an instance regardless of later betrayal) gain a 10% chance to auto-hit their chosen target. This does not stack.

It's an ability that gives benefits to the entire team/whoever you decide to make it be on.

Charmer for Broom Racing.

Effect: -1 accuracy to all of your opponents (as defined at the start of the instance regardless of later betrayal). This ability does not stack.

It's an ability that debuffs your opponents/whoever you decide to make it be on.

So it depends on what you want to do. For me, I'd probably go for Calming Presence myself if I wanted to do broom racing. But that's because my accuracy is almost max and my evasion is max too. So I'd rather go for Calming Presence since it helps out my entire team including me.

Also, can I still get an ability?! I thought you get them at the end of each year?

You can apply for 1 ability per year, you can apply whenever you wish to get it during that year. But you can't save up your abilities and then get like 6 Y6 abilities in that one year. But if you didn't get an ability for Y1 or Y2 and you're Y3, you can apply for 3 normal abilities that have no prerequisites in Y3. You just can't save up 3 abilities and then in Y3 get 3 abilities that say 'prerequisite Y3'.

The only thing that has a deadline is if you wanted a special talent/race you can only apply for that within the first 30 days of being validated on HiO.

Also if you didn't want to do homework throughout the year, at the end of the year (July 1st) you auto get all the spells and potions you would have learned through homework of that year. But you don't get it until the end of the year (July 1st). Note that even though you auto-learn all the spells/potions for that year, you still have to make an update post to index to have them include the spells/potions for that year to your trunk.
