Ignorance is bliss. And he was happy at least for a short time. For it got harder to ignore the ummmm, perils? Danger? Total mass destruction? That’s been going on for quite some time. And will only get so much worse the more the rounds went on. At the very least, Chikao (and Ash) seemed okay. A sight that allowed him to give out a sigh of relief. Sara nodded at Chikao’s suggestion. Protecting was a much more bearable action. He would only hope protecting is the one thing he’d only do throughout the upcoming rounds.

Roleplaying as Phylicia Stanwood

For just a second, Phyllis had a shot at the King. And Louca was somewhere behind her, barely on his feet, so of course she was going to take this shot and make it worth everything she had. But that second of opportunity was not long enough for her shot to make it there before he'd hidden behind a teammate. At least they had them on the defensive.

She didn't even have time to be mad about it, though for Phyllis that would have involved all of, like, a frustrated sigh. But no, the game was moving too fast, and three things happened in rapid succession.

One, she had some things to dodge, that scary black lightning and also... religion? Whatever, she dodged it like a champ, working with her horse like a well-oiled machine. She gave its mane an appreciative pat for that, because she couldn't have taken much evasive action on her own without probably falling out of the saddle. It was unclear how legitimately sentient her stead was, but Phyllis liked to think it didn't like the thought of being hit with pain either, and with such aligned motivations they were going to make the best of teams.

Two, there was a whole drama playing out behind her. Louca had been definitely going to kick the bucket, except the bucket was getting knocked out rather than mortality. And then came Jamie, blazing across the board on his chariot just in time to block the blow. It had Anna coming in to stop the sword from reaching Elsa vibes, but this Anna shattered on impact. It was the way noise settled over the audience, gasps and oohs and gaps of quiet, that alerted her to it, and Phyllis looked over her shoulder. "Oh no," she whispered. That... wasn't good.

Three, Iris. Iris sure did happen. She was now just unavoidably in Phyllis' line of sight, and she lost the ability to do anything but stare, star-struck, as Iris barreled across the board, shoving two boys aside and stopping right in front of the King, just a square diagonal of Phyllis. If asked for comment right now, it would have come out as something unintelligible and high-pitched. What was she supposed to do with that, actually? She needed that on replay, that was something she could watch like fifty more times. Jamie sacrificing himself for Louca was the play with the most heart, but Iris plowing through two people like it was nothing... made her want to squeal into a pillow, which in retrospect would be a really embarrassing thought to have, but right now she was simply living her best, most flustered life.

Christopher was starting to get used to this insanity now. Everything just happened so fast. He certainly couldn't look around to see what was going on because then he himself would be at risk of who knows what coming his way. After his impromptu acrobatics a moment ago, he was ready to swing into action again. To his disappointment, his spell didn't just miss Phylicia by a little bit, he was more likely to hit someone in the crowd with that effort. He stood ready to parry Phylicia's riposte but it never came.

He took the chance to have a quick look around the battlefield. It looked like they had taken down one of the other team's Rooks. Christopher didn't know who it was and he didn't care. Sacrifices had to be made to achieve victory. This poor rube was only the first. They would start to fall like dominos until only Mahoutokoro stood tall at the end of the task.

But that was enough premature gloating. Christopher turned to his book again. Phylicia was clearly expecting that spell again so it was time to switch it up. He scanned the book, looking for something else suitable to his needs. A Reading from Saint Adam's First Letter to the Accountants - seemed rather dry, next. A Reading from Saint Winifred's Letter to the Students of Chuck Mangione Elementary - were these even magical at this point? A Reading from Saint Samantha's first letter to the Sabotiers? Oh, come on.

He paged back to the section where he found the Invocation of Kali. He finally found something suitable: Blessing of Yogurt. He turned to the page and started to read aloud, having no idea what would happen at the end, "Yogurt the Wise! Yogurt the All-Powerful! Yogurt the Magnificent! Grant me your power so I may vanquish your foes!" Then, very carefully he read what he suspected to be the actual magic, "Upsee-dahzee, upsee-mahzee, upsy-daisy!"

There was nothing quite as nerve-wracking as having an ally fall right beside you. Everett watched, more with sadness than with horror, as Jamie hit the ground. It didn't even help that by the time he attacked, Sara had moved. Rendering his action useless. Miles was still in good shape, he was in rough shape. Their king was untouched. Ugh, he wanted a nap.

The chessboard was starting to devolve fully into chaos, with a flurry of movement and actions. A particular Dark Bishop on the other side of the board was even chanting to the Mother (Ma) Kali, Hindu goddess of destruction, beseeching her for Power.

But what had taken the most of his attention was the Ilvermorny keeper having moved almost right into his face. He remembered how much of a monster that one could be from the combined Quidditch match last season. Time to take evasive action!

"Whoa-ho-hooooa, the Mahoutokoro Champion couldn't keep a grin off his face as he basically dove behind Akira and rolled back onto his feet. Then he called out to the knight with the glint in her eye "That looked nasty dude! You sure you're not secretly actually a beater?"

Even as he said those words, one of the White Rooks barged their way right into his face, pushing aside both Narumi and Big Blue as if they were made of paper.

Thoughts of positioning and strategy left his brain, and the Indian boy was practically shaking with excitement. This was it! The Seeker had seen the Snitch, and all the beaters were gunning for him.

It was time to play.

Chikao dashed swiftly to Hadashi's side, taking the blast upon his shield. The blinding light hadn't made contact, but its power was enough of a reminder of the many sins he had committed at Mahoutokoro as the epitome of both sloth and wrath. It was very unlike the boy to have blocked an attack, normally he takes them head-on (not because he's a masochist or anything like that dear readers and narrator) to prove his own strength and power. He grunted in annoyance, "Oi Pair Qiaal1, having fun?" The boy couldn't help but slightly mock and question the way his senpai was acting. Normally he was always uptight and rarely letting loose and Chikao had never once seen him actually have fun; he had considered such a thing to be a myth. He also looked toward his senpai to give a hint that he was referring to him with a new nickname that he thought of. Not once had Chikao ever called Hadashi "senpai" unless he was really being forced into a corner with little to no option. He just had to pray for nobody in the stands could speak his favorite tongue or overhear him from the sounds of so many attacks being done. "You know-" such words came unfinished. As Chikao became distracted, another force came barreling through pushing him aside. He looked back to see the enemy white rook having gotten through their defenses. The boy could only smile as things were finally getting interesting.

It was time.

Iris knew it was time to fulfill her plan. Just absolutely ram into the middle and do as much damage as possible.

It was a fairly simply plan but it required a lot more guts than Iris was sure she had. There, however, was no time to sit and contemplate. Iris clicked and nudged the horse in the side. (A small part of her was considering if horses actually behaved this way since it was just how she'd sort of seen people do the one time her family had gone out horse riding) Either way, the horse took the cue and reared up.

Iris held out her shield in an attempt to protect herself and not simply go flying off her horse at the first wind blown the wrong way. Iris charged forward, aware of the sudden flashes of cameras when she just blew through someone-- or was it two people?? She really had no idea, she was trying to brace herself but also look somewhat photogenic.

Iris' heart was pounding and all noise (including the unstopping chatter and singing) faded into the background. This was her moment.
