Oliver was hectic for the past 2 days. Homeworks were flowing in like water and a broken dam. He had crammed a bunch and somehow got to Defense Against the Dark Arts, his favorite class. He had to finish it today, he couldn’t afford to lose his straight O streak!

He wanted to do them in his common room but there was just too much babbling. He tried to do it on his bed but he still was distracted. A bit annoyed that he had wasted so much time he left the common room, slamming the door behind him. Calm down. Calm down. If you don’t, you won’t focus. He told himself.

He took a few deep breaths then headed for the study room, a place that was quiet. He was trying to avoid familiar faces to not cause any unwanted long conversations. Eventually, he got there and pushed the doors open somewhat, aggressively. He was still pretty mad at himself. He had wasted 30 minutes already!

He pulled back his chair and sat beside someone, he recognized her on the train and realized she would start a conversation but it was too late, he couldn’t get up from his seat after he saw her, it would look like he was judgmental. He grabbed his book, pen and paper from his backpack and started answering the questions for DADA.

Rita was just quickly moving her quill on the paper and busy doing her homework that needed to be submitted in a few days when she barely realized someone seating next to her and also began to do their homework. She looked up, and found out it was Oli, the boy she met on the Hogwart Express and in the great hall. She remembered the incident when Oli accidentally spilled his goblet of ink and ended up crying in front everyone at the lunch table in the great hall. Oli was obviously working hard on his homework, and Rita knew it was better not to disturb this hard-working Ravenclaw from studying hard. So, Rita pretended she haven`t seen Oli and continued to work on her homework to be submitted. She decided to wait for Oli to start the conversation when he finished his work, or else neither of them would complete their homework and Oli might be mad at her.

As Rita moved her quill on the paper quickly, she thought, "Let me see if this poor boy Oli would cause any mischief today. He`s hardworking, much more hardworking than me, but he`s also quite clumsy. Hopefully he won`t knock down his goblet of ink or do anything clumsy like that today. Let`s see if he would need my help or not. But for now, let me just try to concentrate on my work. Although I don`t really like studying, I don`t want to miss any deadlines and get myself in trouble, so I have to complete this homework! Let me just do it, hopefully it won`t take too long!"

Oliver tried to finish his DADA homework. He got a bit bored after a while. Snap out of it!! You have to finish your homework!! Said a little voice in his brain. He shook his head. He sighed. He was about to get up to get another book that could help for his homework but of course, he got a splinter as he put his hand of the table.

He looked at the splinter on his index finger. It hurt but he didn’t let that show on his facial expression. Bad timing he said. He didn’t have the patience and the time to go to the hospital wing. Instead he just yanked the piece of wood out. It hurt like heck. It was bleeding now but he just wrapped it around his handkerchief. He noticed his hair had turned a sudden shade of red.

No no no! Not now! He thought. He quickly closed his eyes and made it go back to normal. Thankfully it returned to normal. That was close. He hoped no one saw. He swiftly grabbed his book then returned to his seat. The wound stung but he just sucked it up and kept a straight face.
“Not now-… I need to finish this… stupid splinter” he muttered under his breath.

Rita casually looked around and watched Oli trying his best to finish his piece of homework while also trying to work hard to finish her homework that was due later this week. She knew both of them had to study hard at least not to fail their exams and make their parents upset, so even though Rita clearly liked exploring the Hogwarts castle, meeting up with new people and old friends, and participating in outdoor sports and other activities, right now, she had to study and finish her homework, and also should not be distracting Oli from studying hard or he would probably be mad at her, which Rita absolutely hated.

Oh no, it seemed that Oli was getting himself in trouble again. Rita noticed there was some blood on his hair, but it seemed Oli had managed the situation by himself this time, not like last time when he burst into tears in front of the whole table of students in the great hall during lunch time. Anyway, since Oli managed that situation by himself, Rita decided to just ignore the situation so that both of them can continue to focus on their work. Rita absolutely enjoyed small talks despite some people found it to be meaningless, but for now, she decided to leave the small talk for a minute and instead just focus on finishing the seemingly endless boring homework that needed to be handed in, at least for now.

He was quite glad that she didn’t notice that he was a metamorphagus. No one ( yet ) new that he was one except his family. The splinter still hurt but he shoved that asside. He was going to finish his homework, no excuses. He would turn it in first thing tommorow! Quickly ( but carefully as to not miss anything ) checking the textbook and writing down the answers, his wound still hurt and the blood was seeping through his handkerchief now.

It was red with blood. He hid his left hand so that no one would see the blood. He had to do something about it. He couldn’t sit there and focus. He decided to strike up some small talk to keep his mind pre-occupied. “Hey Rita-… can you help me out on this part of the homework?” he asked her showing his paper to her trying to ignore the splinter that was getting worse and worse. Suddenly, a sharp pain came from the wound. “Ah- ouch” he said. His hair, this time turned purple. Oh god not again! His hair now had turned bright purple. This time he was prepared. 2 seconds late it was gone. Oh no. Rita saw it. She couldn’t have not seen it. His secret was out.

Rita was trying her best to ignore Oli and focus on finishing her dull homework that was due later this week when she heard Oli asking if she could help out him on a certain part of his homework.


"Well, I don`t think I remember much about the things I learned in my first year, but I would like to help you out on that particular question. I may or may not know the answer, but I will try my best to help you. Could you show me what question you are asking me?" Rita replied to Oli in a friendly voice, then continued to do her homework while waiting for Oli to respond to her. Rita really wanted to finish her homework so maybe she could go out afterwards, so she did not want to waste too much time on the meaningless small task, which she typically enjoyed. "I need to finish my homework, so though I would like to waste time on small talk and waiting for others to respond, I should resist that temptation and finish my homework at this particular time. Come on, you can finish this, Rita! You can overcome all of the difficulties, not to mention this piece of homework!" Rita even started to encourage herself while trying her best to finish the boring homework.

However, it seemed that Oli was again messing up with things and getting himself into trouble. Rita noticed his hair turned light purple although it turned back to normal grey-brown color in a matter of seconds. That surprised Rita, she had never saw someone being able to change the color of his hair that way. "Wait, you can change the color of your hair? How do you do that? Is that magic? You don`t have to tell me if you don`t want to, it`s OK." Rita could help but ask Oli how he did that. As a muggle born young wizard, Rita was still gradually exploring and learning how everything works in the wizarding world, and this sudden change of hair must be one of the things she had not quite figured out. Anyway, without waiting for a response from Oli, she decided to continue to focus on her homework. "Let the poor young Ravenclaw figure out the things by himself, he does not have to tell me his secret if he really does not want to. It`s study home, not secret time! Let me focus on finishing my homework first, maybe I can talk with Oli about that later." Rita thought as her quill quickly moved on the paper to finish her work.

He showed her the part of homework he needed help on. It was the hardest question there. As he showed her this he looked thought the textbook one more time just incase he had missed something that could lead to the answer. He had flipped multiple pages when she started to talk.

Then she had asked the question he hoped she wouldn’t ask. “Uhhh- its nothing nothing-“ he said as he looked down to his feet trying to avoid eye contact. She knew his secret. He didn’t have a choice. Don’t tell her and she will probably ask her friends about it or tell her it and ask her to not tell anyone. “Im- Im a-“ he hesitated. He sighed. “Don’t tell anyone- promise me.” he told her.

His heart was beating so fast that it felt like it was going to explode! He whispered to her, “Im a metamorphagus- a rare gift that a wizard is born with. It cannot be learned. I was gifted with that gift. People like me- they can change their appearance at will. I can’t control mine yet. I can only make it stop.” He didn’t like the situation he was in. He was visibly uncomfortable talking about this. He hoped she would keep his secret. If anyone found out, they would think he was weird. No, they would think he was different.

When Oli showed Rita the problem on his homework that he needed help on and also showed this part of textbook that would possibly reveal the answer to that problem, Rita paid a closer look to the particular problem, and decided to try her best to help him solve his problem. Rita was definitely not the most hard-working or the brightest student, but somehow her grades was not that bad with an E average. But the problem is, she almost completely forgot the knowledge she learned in her first year, so she is actually not very sure about the answer. "Honestly, I am not very sure about the answer to this problem. I`ve nearly forgotten the things I learned when I was a first year. I think maybe it would work this way..." Rita picked up her quill to write something on the paper so that Oli could probably understand more clearly of her thoughts as she tried her best to explain her thoughts on the problem and help Oli solve that even though she was not 100 percent sure about the answer, "Maybe something like that? I really don`t know what the correct answer is, I suggest you ask the professor what the actual answer is, cos I may be wrong about this question. I am not an expert of those homework by the way, and I honestly struggle with mine as well!" After trying to help Oli solve his problem, Rita decided to continue to do her work unless Oli said something else to her.

After a short while, Rita heard Oli trying to tell her something. Rita raised her head from her homework and decided to put her homework aside for a while and listen carefully when Oli was trying to speak. Oli had decided to tell Rita his secret special talent! Rita listened carefully and quietly as Oli was telling her the whole thing and asking her to keep his secret. Understandably, Oli clearly hesitated when he began to tell Rita his secret talent. Rita honestly never knew that some wizards had this born gift to change their appearance at will. It was, to say the least, surprising and strange. Maybe there were many even stranger things that the muggle born little badger who just entered the wizarding world by accident had not really figured out. While it may seem cool to be able to change their hair and other facial appearance at any time, Rita understood it must be problematic when things go out of control, and they would probably find themselves in big trouble. Anyway, Oli asked her to keep his secret and did not tell anyone, which was definitely a challenge for Rita since she was quite talkative and find it hard to keep other`s secrets. However, since Oli trusted her to keep his secret, Rita would try her best to keep the secret for her new friend. "Metamorphagus? I`ve never heard that long and strange word before. Anyway, based on your description, I understand it may seem cool being able to change your appearance at any time, but it must be problematic when things go out of control. You may find yourself in big trouble when things go out of control at times. Anyway, I promise I will try my best to keep your secret only between us and try not to tell anyone else. I don`t want to people to laugh at you or even bully you just because you have this special talent! Thank you for your trust, and I`ll keep it as a secret!" Rita responded to Oli when he finished telling the whole thing, before burying her head into the homework again to try her best to finish them as soon as possible.

He was glad that Rita had decided to keep it a secret. He had enough problems to focus on now. He didn’t need another. He kept working on his homework until he was nearly done. Scribbling on a piece of paper on his pen when he decided to probably ask a professor.

He finished the rest of the stuff he knew before he would leave. He thought about his family back home. Would his mother be mad that someone found out about his secret? His mom was simply scary when she was in a fit. It was ( In Oliver’s opinion ) the scariest thing. He chuckled when he thought about it. She wouldn’t get mad. Hopefully.

“I will take your advice. I will go and pay the professor a visit and ask about the questions I need help on. Thanks for helping me and keeping this a secret” he said to her. He knew this meant they had to part ways but at least he knew his secret was safe with her. She wouldn’t tell anyone. Would she? He shook it off. He packed up his stuff and prepared to leave. “Well, I’m off now. See you around Rita” he said holding out a hand for her to shake.
