Huh- thanks mate- I’ll take that into consideration-Rebecca Loops wrote: 16 Nov 2022, 02:29 like if you're asking my opinion, nahhhhhhhh.
it has some rp potential but overall I think developing friendships are wayyyyy more interesting, and anyways if you wait to start rping romantic relationships it can be more of a slowburn friends to partners sort of thing versus a superficial "ahh you held my hand once so now I am in love"
so unless you really want to lean hard into the puppy-love childhood crush thing, overall it's a big commitment that doesn't really develop either character in a meaningful way. But you know the person that you're writing best, so it's ultimately a character decision that you yourself are the only one actually qualified to make!

A menace!?Rebecca Loops wrote: 16 Nov 2022, 03:31 @Colin McCoire No I acctually think colin's approach is adorable! but it works for you because you're a menace and not worried about maturity, which isn't the same for other people
Mind you, I totally get what you're saying, and actually tend to agree. Let all these poor 11 and 12 year olds be kids! If a crush is part of that, then all well and good, but don't put your character through it if it's not part of his story.
When I look at Colin, it's 100% part of his story. Boy's got too much love and too big a heart. If didn't crush on Clair (or to put it in his words, express his undying and immortal love for the other half of his heart!) he'd explode.
OOC I'm under no illusion that he and Clair must get married (right now, he's staring at me saying of course I'm going to marry Clair! What kind of nonsense are you on about?); it could all come flying apart; they could evolve in different directions. I know they'll end up becoming good mates and, yeah, it is my hope they end up courting! They could end up breaking up and finding each other again after a whole string of heartbreaks.
Or, just perhaps, they'll be the faerie tale couple who literally did look in each other's eyes and knew they were meant to be together forever amen!
The only thing I'd suggest --- to anyone who's thinking along these lines --- is seriously talk about it with your writing partner. Whether it all works out or whether it devolves into disaster, it'll be much more fun when you've got someone to work on it together with!

Well written Colin! I myself am debating about my current relationship with Lazarus. I mean I remember what feels like a million years ago thinking I had a crush on someone, and then a few years later actually realising that that wasn't a crush, it was a nothing!
It's like what @Rebecca Loops said earlier, "ahh you held my hand once so now I am in love". I'm trying to decide on what to do there. I mean Taisia really reflects on me as an eleven year old so at the moment I am debating whether I want her and Lazarus to stay together with a big break up in 5th or 6th year. But I'm also wondering if maybe it is just puppy love for her- just a silly thing between two tweens. Because I don't know, I feel like a Ravenclaw isn't going to be THE love of her life, or her soulmate. I think she belongs more to a Gryffindor or Slytherin.

I think it's important for us writers to have that debate, within ourselves as well as with our writing partners. At the very least, it makes for good reading for those of stalking your threads; and it also makes writing together more fun.
And let's face it --- Taisia is 11! Colin's 12. Colin would argue you to death about this, but really, neither of them, and none of the rest of us (excepting @AngelFyre McCubbin and @Simon Kincaid!) are really ready to make this kind of commitment.
The only "advice" I'd offer is to actually collaborate with the other character's writer. If you're unsure about Taisia and Lazarus, make that insecurity your common project. It would make for interesting story, and I'd argue character development as well. Tween crushes serve very important sociological and biological purposes. Mostly of the "it's okay, that mysterious other gender doesn't actually have cooties!" sort. They're sort of proto-relationships. And the questioning and exploring that you're telling us here is indicative that you understand the transient nature of the crush.
Keep your mind in hell; and don't despair.

I feel like Keith is going to have so many crushes of all gender's and be one confused boi. Like all of first and second year he's going to meet so many people and he's going to crush on like at least 4 different people. The only one I'm planning for him to 'date' is Clark.

Opeila is traumatized to the core and many of her decisions are driven by unhealthy motives. So any relationship she'd start now is likely to go through tough times.
