CL Butterflies and Blue Goodbyes Open

“They were chocolate chip cookies!” Wynn chirped. “I mixed the dough and cut the cookies. My mum wouldn’t let me near the oven though, so I still don’t know how to bake them. Um, I’d love it if you guys could show me how someday…” He said, before drooping down shyly, his last sentence close to that of a whisper.

As Kim expressed his anticipation of seeing what house Wynn would be sorted into, he couldn’t help but wonder about that himself. What house would he belong in? It made him a bit nervous, as it wasn’t an internet personality quiz that you could redo if you didn’t like the results. Gryffindor was definitely a nice choice, since it meant he and Kim could meet up often. Hufflepuff was also one he liked; his mother was a Huffie herself after all. He didn’t feel like he was that smart or cunning enough for Ravenclaw or Slytherin, but then again, the Sorting Hat sorted you based on your ideals, so they couldn’t be completely ruled out, either.

Wynn also thought that not being able to visit other houses’ dorms was a rather stupid rule, but also, he could kind of understand why it had to exist. Safety was indeed important. Still, having visiting hours seemed more reasonable on this matter.

Kim asked what Wynn wanted to do after getting sorted, and honestly, he didn’t have a clue. “I don’t know, actually. I heard that the ceremony lasts until very late, so maybe I would go to bed?”

Traveling always wore him out, and if the ceremony really did last until late night, he would probably be too sleepy to do anything else. If it ended early though, hanging out with Kim didn’t sound so bad. But Kim would probably be surrounded by a lot of his friends, would he have time for him then? Wynn didn’t want Kim to miss out on catching up with his buddies just for a person (practically a stranger!) he met today. His friends were probably way more interesting and fun than Wynn anyways.

“But um, if it ends early, could I go and find you? I-I’d understand if you prefer to spend time with your friends though! I’m sure you have a lot to catch up on!” And I wouldn’t want you to choose me over your friends, not that I think I’m interesting enough for you to want to do that.

I poked my head in and saw the two young dudes chatting together. I gathered up some courage, took a gulp of air, and walked in the rest of the way. "Hey, uhmmm do you guys mind if I chill in here with you? I haven't anyone else to sit with except myself. I can leave, though, if you guys want! It's not in my nature to be a burden to society." I stood there, ready to leave, or some in and stay, whichever came first. I was not just nervous, but also worried about what I would do in either circumstance. Should I have just gone back and stayed in my original seat? Honestly, that probably would have been the better choice. I wonder, though, what I would have done if I haven't thought of switching spots? I guess I might have just stayed there and probably could have fallen asleep or something. I had changed into my robes before the train ride so I wouldn't have to worry about it later. I was nervous, but then I thought about what house I could be sorted into, and then that helped me feel a little better. And then the moment I thought about the classes and the difficulty of them made me worry again.

I was a little slow catching up to her, the two siblings asked us to leave because their friends wanted to come in. After our little conversation the talk died down and I went back to reading my book while Alice sat there, she looked awfully bored to be honest, like she would fall asleep any minuet. I was just a little nervous to say anything. I didn't know her and I sucked when it came to this. "Hey, just go in." I said quietly. I did have a good track record of being places other people didn't want me to be. "Only two outcomes, they don't speak to you or I or they do," I explained with a shrug, gently nudging my new friend (I think?) into the cart.

We sat down, a little similar to last time, and I handed her a chocolate frog I nabbed off the trolly. She said her thanks and went to open it. "Wait! The frog may--" it jumped out of the casing and made a jump for the window, but I snatched it out of thin air. "--jump. Here," I said with a laugh, handing her the immobile frog. She looked a little shocked but smiled in amusement and took the frog wearily.

I still had a shocked, yet amused, grin on my face.
"Thanks!", I said, "That could have gotten lost to oblivion."
I kept my head down low so I wouldn't have to look at the possibly rude faces of the other two people in the cart with Lucian and me. But then again I wouldn't have known better. I was only a first year after all. I smiled grimly to myself. Then, I thought of a question to ask. I looked over at the other two people sitting in the cart with us.
"Hey, do you know how long it takes for this train to arrive at Hogwarts?" I knew that both Lucian and I were first years. But the other two may not be, and they would at least have a rough estimate. And if they were first years too, then they might feel just as worried, excited, and nervous as I was. That helped me calm myself down a little bit. I took a bite out of the chocolate frog to see if it tasted strange with the spell on it. It was kind of like eating a real frog, but it was sweet. I recoiled slightly at the feel of it, but then got used to it soon enough.

Wearily, I put the marshmello biscuit to my mouth and my eyes lit up. They were amazing! I must tell mum that we need to buy these!! "These are amazing. How have I never had these before?" I asked, astounded.

He didn’t seem mean, he had given us food, and he was being pretty nice. I wonder what Alice thinks about them. They didnt look like they hated it here with us so we must be doing something right. The one that gave us food had a smile on their face as they looked at us. I grew nervous a little, what if this was for show. What if they were not a first year and in Slytherin? I have heard from my cousins that people in Slytherin are mean and evil, but they can't be that bad. Not everyone in Slytherin is bad. Part of me wants to be sorted there so I can prove them knuckleheads wrong.

"Its- its nice to meet you. I’m Lucian Mornstern. Erm, thanks for the, uh, chocolate!” I said, trying not to stammer too much. I looked at Alice, I think she was liking them? I couldnt really tell. "If you dont mind me asking, what year are in? You dont look scared to be here but maybe you’re just really good at hiding," I mused.

I took the sweets hesitantly.
"Uh- Thanks!" I took one and put it in my mouth, chewing slowly as I sat down, not wanting to be rude and also not wanting to be considered the kid that ate anything and everything in its path. I was self-concious, if you will. I chewed slowly and swallowed, popping another one in my mouth soon after. "These are really good! What is in them?" I wondered if I had ever had these before from the store or something. I thought over this for a moment, then turned to look back at Kim, trying to figure out what would be in these. I let my thoughts stray while I waited for an answer, looking out the window occasionally to see what was speeding by. I wondered when I would see my family or friends, and then how many I would make going to Hogwarts. These people, that I become friends with, that I meet, these people could very well become my second family. I pulled a strand of hair out of my face and put it behind my neck because getting hair in your face is uncomfy. I forced my attention back into the present so I could focus more easily.

I picked my book back up and tried to find me page, I really liked the company of these people and Alice seemed really cool! Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad here, I was scared to be honest. My parents forbade anyone really talking about major things that happened there.

They didn’t want to spoil the surpirse.

As much as I will miss my parents and Baxter, these people… they could fill the void that is bound to be present in a few weeks. I’ve never been away from them this long! Never had proper friends for sleepovers before.

I slowly reached for a Chocoball, unsure if I was allowed another one, when I wasn’t repriminded I hesitantly put it in my mouth. I guess I was a little pickish.

Half the stuff on that trolly I hadn’t seen before. Damn, mum is really holding back with the shopping I thought. I’ve had Chocolate Frogs before and, I shuddered, the bean things. They are bloody awful they are. Cant count the amount of times I’ve thrown up becasue of them. Definitely need to prank Baxter with them.

"What classes are you all looking forward to, either now or in the future? I can’t wait for Defense Against Dark Arts and Care of Magical Creatures," I asked, feeling ignorant if I read my book.

I looked up and over at Lucian. I didn't have to think for very long about what my answer would be.

"I know I'm definitely excited for Care of Magical Creatures!" I said without hesitancy. "And you never know when or if you'll come across a hurt animal or not. In a way, I find this class somewhat crucial. Yes, they're all important but... I don't know. I forgot what I was going to say."

I truly did forget what I was going to say. I guess that had to happen to everyone sometimes. It just had to. Oh well, no harm done. I thought about my pets for a moment, wondering how much more one of my dogs could possibly grow. I turned my attention back to the window, feeling somewhat embarrassed from my mind having forgotten what I would say to these other people. I was supposed to make a good impression! I had to. Because this school in where I'm going to live in. And I will be living with the people inside of it.

I pondered over this last part. We would all make mistakes and that was okay. We would all be alright. As long as no one is trying to take over soul I thought we would all be okay. I leaned back in my seat and wondered what this year would hold.
