Thank you for reaching out! I recently learned your name through the Quill Pal Program and was eager to write, but I was busy with a History of Magic essay that I had procrastinated on for far too long. Business before pleasure, so they say!

I'm looking forward to getting to know someone knew (you) through the Quill Pal Program! I don't think there's any set expectations, so let's just see how everything goes! You started off well with a lot of questions and I'll try not to miss any!

My name is Simon - Simon Kincaid. I am thirteen, a third year, and in Hufflepuff. Here at Hogwarts, I spend most of my time studying for classes, working on schoolwork, researching the magical world, playing or writing music, training for broom racing, reading books, reading the Bible, strengthining my Herbology and Potions knowledge, writing to muggle friends back home or my aunt, and hanging out with friends or the girlfriend.

Back home, I enjoyed ice hockey, skateboarding, going to concerts and other musical events, going to church and being part of the choir, visiting museums, and being with my aunt and friends.

After reading that, do we have anything in common? What interests do you hold? I too am curious of your year and house. If you're new to Hogwarts, what do you think of it? Did you know of magic before all this or is it new to you? What do you think of your house?

I do see some similarities but also things that are very different to the things I like to do. I too like music and play the Piano. Reading is a big love of mine and I enjoy riding on a broom, although I don't get to do that super often. Herbology and Potions are also very interesting to me.
However, reading the bible isn't something I ever do and I also don't have something such as a Bible. It's not really something we do in my Family. You have muggle friends? That's very interesting! Do you also live in a muggle town? You mentioned a lot of things that Muggles do and aren't really common in the Wizarding World, so I would suspect that.

I am a first year in Slytherin and a Pureblood, so yes, I am familiar with Magic and always have been. Hogwarts is pretty good so far, I do feel a little lost sometimes but it's truly beautiful around here and I try my best in Classes. I like my house, my Parents wished for me to get into Slytherin and I wasn't very keen on that at first, but I'm getting used to it.

Now, other than Reading, Music, Herbology and Potions, I really enjoy Astronomy, Painting or Drawing, Journaling and playing Wizarding Chess with my Father. I love Quidditch and since we have a field at home, I'd say I'm pretty good at it. My parents are a bit scared of me getting hurt tho, so it's not something I do on a regular basis.

I hope I didn't forget to reply to anything you said or asked, if I did, please tell me so I can give you the answer. Another Question: Where are you from? Like Country and City wise? I suspect somewhere around Scotland because if you weren't from around here, you'd most likely attend a different school.

Music really is the melody, drive in life. I don't think I could get by without it. I really miss being able to be back in London with my Apple Music and listening to it nearly constantly. I also have been trying to learn a couple different instruments that I can't bring here to Hogwarts, but I did bring my acoustic guitar. That's fun to play when I can't get to the Rehearsal Room to play the piano.

I do live in a muggle town, if you take Diagon Alley out of the mix! I'm London born and bred. I love being from a big city where there's so much to do. I grew up only knowing of muggle things. My mum, she was a student here at Hogwarts and sorted into Gryffindor. She passed away when I was three and I guess she never wanted to make her younger sister, my Aunt Maggie, jealous, so she didn't speak much of Hogwarts or things of magic. My Aunt Maggie didn't know it was mostly hereditary and that I too one day would be accepted here at Hogwarts. It's a pretty new world for me and amazes me still even though I'm three years in.

I think I'll always love muggle things, but I don't think I could go back to the muggle world indefinitely upon graduation. I don't know what I plan to do yet, but dragons fascinate me, I love Herbology and Potions, and I've taken a current interest in medicine - both magical and nonmagical.

Did you say you had a quidditch field at home? Like, a field field? Full length quidditch field? That's crazy cool! I live in a small townhouse in South Kensington, London and we have the smallest little garden you could picture. - Definitely no room for quidditch or, my favorite, broom racing, there. Not that I could with all the nonmagic folks around anyway.

What is a Apple Music? Sounds quite fun! Oh I love the acoustic guitar, it sounds really nice when one knows how to play.

Living in a Muggle town must be quiet cool as well, I've heard that Muggle London is beautiful. I'm from Scotland and there's more Trees than people, so I wouldn't know what it's like to have a lot of people around you. I'm sorry that your Mother has passed. I can imagine that it was a little difficult to grow up without magic and then come here. But then again, I feel like the "Muggle Life" is a bit more peaceful at times, what do you think?

Dragons do sound interesting, were you thinking about something like a Dragon Sanctuary if you'd choose a job with Dragons, or something else? Herbology and Potions are great and both are interests of mine, as well as the medicine part. When I grow up, I would like to he a Healer. Although I have also thought of being an Auror or Hit Witch. Gladly I still have a lot of time to decide.

Yes, we have a Quidditch Field at home, I know it sounds Insane. It is Insane. My Father is the oldest Child in his family, so he inherited the Grounds we live on. The Quidditch Pitch was already there with a rather large Garden and Pond. And a big house... Sorry, I don't want to brag, it's actually not as great as it sounds.

Before I answer this, I would also like to know what your favorite thing about Hogwarts is and what you spend your days with. I know that you wrote you do a lot of Studying in your free time (in your last letter, I apologize if I'm mistaken), but I feel like there is more to you than that.

Now, for me I really really love the Library, my Dorm and anything Outdoors around here. The classes are also pretty fun but some are a bit harder than I thought. I like all that, also just Hogwarts in general and don't think I can choose something that is my favorite. My days are mostly spend going to classes, studying, reading, taking walks, training sometimes and Journaling, Sketching, Drawing or Painting. I really like that kind of stuff.

I apologize if I missed anything, this letter was written in a bit of a hurry, since I'm almost off to Dinner. Heard they're serving Jello tonight, wich has weirdly enough become one of my favorite desserts since attending Hogwarts. Hope you have a great rest of your day!

Apple is a type of cellphone and their music service is Apple Music where you can listen to a lot of different songs in a lot of different genres by a lot of different artists. It's like having a personal gramophone in your pocket, ready at will to play nearly any song you want at any single time. My apologies, I forget what it's like to not know these things already. I suppose it's like something from the wizarding world to me - it could be so common place for you and yet for me it would be completely foreign.

It's kind of crazy that you thing muggle life might be more peaceful. I think of all the spells and incantations one can do like scourgify to clean and get things done so quickly that it's the magical world that seems more peaceful to me. Less time on the mundane and more time to just do as you please - reading, music, worship. Anything, really.

As for your home, you don't sound like your bragging, but I'm envisioning this huge estate, surrounded by the Scottish forests. It's got to be night and day from what I've got in my townhome and even that is a pretty nice place for the heart of South Kensingotn in London. My aunt too inherited, her parents, my grandparents, both passed away right after my mum graduated Hogwarts and then when she passed, it all fell to Aunt Maggie.

You sound quite creative. If you're ever up to earning a little extra money, maybe you could teach me how to sketch or draw or paint. I've always wanted to be better at that sort of thing. Let me know, that would sort of transform us from quill pals to mentor and student but if you're interested, that would be cool. Super cool.

Wow that sound so cool! Weird how much complex stuff muggles have that we don't have in the wizarding world and yet it's not magic. Can't quite get that into my head, I really don't understand how something like that could work without the slightest bit of magic.

I guess I get that, magic does make a lot of stuff easier and faster. My little brother used to think that Muggles don't have something like toast or jam. Had to explain to him that we are not the only ones who enjoy a good strawberry jam on toast. He's only 6 so it's not that bad, although he should've probably know that, might just be hard since our parents don't like anything related with muggles...

Anyways, a small town house does sound really nice to me, much easier to find your siblings when playing hide and seek and most likely much more comfortable than where I live. I'm really sorry about your grandparents and your mother.. Is your Aunt Maggie nice? I like her name!

Oh no, keep the money, I'd love to teach you some stuff! Although, keep in mind that I just draw for fun. I did have some painting lessons but my Parents thought it was more important to learn another language. - So German lessons took over painting lessons. We can still be quill palls even if we do meet for "lessons" haha. You also wouldn't have to worry about supplies, I have more than enough!

Yea, I really am going to need the magical world to pick up their music a little bit. Not having the ability to listen to a song that I want to when I want to is quite tragic. Still, I have discovered that there's a piano in the Rehearsal Room as well as an old gramophone in the corner with some, well, I'll call them records because I'm not quite sure what they're called. Also, I recently purchased a wizarding radio and I'm sure that'll be a life saver come this next school year on nights where I'm in my dorm and trying to study in the silence.

Aunt Maggie isn't only nice, she's the absolute best. I wish everyone had an Aunt Maggie - no lie. She's kind and thoughtful and the most giving person I've ever known. Someone meets her and instantly they feel like her best friend and she's always so selfless. Someone's a better person for knowing her and I hope to be more like her.

I think I'm going to take you up on that painting lesson offer. You name the time and the place and I'll be there. Lets go easy at first - flowers or something. Nothing like a self portrait.

There's a piano in the Rehearsal Room? Wow I didn't know that, I definitely have to check that out!! I think you're right, they are called Record's. My Grandpa used to have a Gramophone and he always told me about the records he has and played me his favorites. Wizarding Radios are great as well! Did you know that they even play muggle bands and songs on there some times? I think that's pretty cool and muggles do have some great music!

Well, I'm pretty fluent with a time and a place but if you want to draw flowers, somewhere outside would be perfect! Although that might not work with the snow.. Perhaps we'll still find a flower somewhere, sticking it's head out of the snow. Don't worry about any painting supplies, just let me know what time and day fits for you! Alright, drawing or painting flowers sounds like a perfect place to start. After all, they can't move on me (at least not most varieties) and it's probably safe to say that they won't feel any sort of anger or resentment after my first failed feeble attempts.

That leads us to the where and the when.

We might find the occasional flower still outdoors but also then we might be battling colder temperatures. That, and if there is a snow cover on the ground than there's the sunlight being reflected off of that snow cover to also take into account. I tend to keep indooors mostly on those days as it can get quite bright. That leads us to two options that come to mind. 1) There are a lot of plants in the Hufflepuff Common Room. I could always borrow some and bring to any specified location - the unused classroom on the Second Floor, the Great Hall when not meal times, or the Rehearsal Room where I spend much of my free time.

As for when, let's meet the morning of Saturday, January 16th. That way, we've had time to get readjusted to life back from Holiday Break and can then devote ourselves to the artistic life.
