The big dumb look of superiority on his face told her exactly what Roberta needed to know. Yefim's mind was already somewhere else, distracted by his own delusions of grandeur and perhaps even already believing himself the victor. No reaction from the others though. How disappointing that was! She would've smirked had they reacted, the satisfaction of having stood out before them enough to boost her already well-earned ego, but she had to admit defeat and felt somewhat deflated instead. Time to look to her friends for the support she would need to replace that feeling.
Cassanora's speech was, however, far more inspiring then her own but somehow oddly familiar. Although her author was pretty sure that the Hogwarts Headmaster had said those words, or at least a variation of them on occasion once before, Roberta didn't seem the reading type so it sailed right over her head. [In French]"To the red knight's fall!" She exclaimed, allowing Cassanora's false confidence to fill her deflated sense of pride while bowing in a show of loyalty. Thinking it best not to tack on her own submission to the phrase, refraining from that annoying habit of hogging of spotlight which some duellists preferred, she would neglect to add a second cheer to her King's and letting a good thing come to an end when its time was up is always the right choice.
The full transformation from faux fur-lined nobility to priestess dressed in all black was not exactly what she had in mind when she stepped onto the board but it was a pleasant surprise to say the least. Though some of her allies in armor gave her cause to question them aloud, [In French]"Can you still move under all that plate?" Giving herself a good look over she seemed to be dressed in all black silken robes with a tight fitting biretta. She would think she looked both; sick enough to punish those who dared to oppose her, and like she might be capable of providing salvation to those of her team who need it most. The book was hefty though, weighing far more than she was comfortable carrying too far across the board, so she would not likely be clobbering anyone with it anytime soon if at all.
While it seemed her allies had been dressed in all black, looking back at the Durmstrang team revealed that they had all been dressed in white. No shades of grey to cause nagging questions here, only one thought lingered before the battle began. Would the privilege of going first belong to the white team, or was this going to be more like the free for all it seemed it would be here shortly? She would open the book in the meantime, looking for a clue what to do next, choosing to lead the enemy on with friendly taunts once she had determined the value of reading the thing's non-denominational contents. [In English] "Who wants to go first?" She would point to Valentin, then Felix, then sweep across the their team until she got the reaction she deserved. [In English] "Your move, punks."

-Evasive Maneuvers I & II- Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separate from the attack roll.
This ability can be acquired up to 2 times. When acquired twice, this stacks so when acquired a second time this becomes a 20% chance.
-Lovely Creature- You are very distracting to look at. This increases the Control DC of spells in duels and adventures by +2 as well as the DC for finding things in adventures or the DC for finding the snitch in a game of Quidditch. This ability does not stack.
-Fearless- Fear effects such as a dhampir's aura, the ability terrible presence, a lycanthrope's intimidation or certain charms, potions and jinxes that would normally cause a fear effect do not work on you as you are immune to them.

Date: 23/10/22-------------------------------------------------------------------Stepping up to his square, Milo could see the other team start to all transform into their appropriate attire, their original clothing disappearing into blindingly white almost costumes, although very high quality looking ones at that. Although with that, his team started to do the same into their black clothes.
With a flair for the dramatic, as soon as Milo was under the impression that he was transforming, he milked it. With some spinning and some dramatic dancemoves, one would be convinced that he was in his own little anime world. He actually looked good doing it, at least in his own opinion. When he returned to reality, he wiped down his leather armour and looked towards the horse/demon/thing that pulled his chariot. It was time to do battle!
"Je suis d'accord." I'm okay. Milo replied to Roberta who seemed concerned about his, and others, armour, although with his chariot his physical movement wasn't really that of great importance.

As he stepped onto the board to take his rightful place, Amaury felt a weight settle across his shoulders, on his head, in his hand. He was donned in regal attire befitting a Queen, and the thorny crown he felt upon his brow and the dangerous-looking scepter he found in his left hand more than made up for the other part. Although his pureblood family would likely be ashamed to see their son in a bejeweled gown, gender roles were antiquated anyway. To be mad about the dress was to disregard the Queen's ultimate power on the chessboard, he told himself. The skirt was an unfamiliar feeling, but there was no room to complain when there was a match to be won. Plus, the fur cloak was delightfully soft, which was an undeniable bonus. He might as well be comfortable as he crushed his enemies to dust.

Hexwizard Task 1: Beauxbatons v Durmstrang

Lysander intercepted Valentin’s chocolate frog projectile, much to the seeker’s surprise. While the tradition had started when Valentin was younger and jealous over Yefim’s attentions, now it was all in the spirit of livening the atmosphere. Why should they have to be serious at a time like this – especially at a time like this – when success depended on people shaking off their nerves? With a sigh and a smirk, Valentin waved a hand and moved on. One day. One day for sure he was going to get Erin with a chocolate frog.
After Mikael pulled away from him, Valentin found that his smile didn’t reach the other the way that it used to. Val’s gambit with the ring had not only failed, but backfired in utter calamity. Faith without understanding is suicide, Valentin repeated to himself. Why couldn’t Mikael understand? The entire point of trying to give the dark-haired boy Valentin’s ring was to make him understand that Valya would give away even such a treasured symbol if only it would heal the rift in Mikael’s soul. There was no way Valentin would give up his oath to Yefim, not even if Mikael were to take all of Yefim’s blessings for himself. The failed sacrifice was the shape of Valentin’s devotion itself, even if Mikael refused to listen. They were going astray, all of them, and they needed Valentin’s keen sight, needed his clear mind and its strategies. Was it betrayal for one’s eyes to see what one does not want to see? At least Yefim still trusts me, Valentin thought. So long as Yefim was willing to listen to the truth, couldn't they still be warned away from tumbling, blind, off their precipice?
There was nothing to be done about it now. Even if Mikael couldn’t understand, Valya would keep fighting for both him and Yefim. The pain in Valentin’s wrist reasserted itself and the white seeker shivered despite the warmth and excitement in the room. Instinctively, Valya’s feet began to move until he found himself in front of his co-captain.
For as much anxiety as Romeo felt under the media spotlight, Valentin went on casually, talking as if their every word weren’t being recorded. After living his entire life in the spotlight, for Valentin this was one more important performance in an endless promenade. All that “image management” his butler, Sergei, kept insisting on… well… surely Sergei could deal with it. He was skilled like that. Whatever drama was happening in French on the other side of the board was just as unintelligible.
Conversely, Romeo’s words stayed with Valentin as he turned and moved into position. As much as Val hated that he’d messed up his inflections without realizing it, the amusement in Romeo’s eyes was worth it. He’d seemed a bit tense before, even on the bench – or perhaps it was partly because he was benched, thought Val. Rome even offered a little praise, and then some strong encouragement, bringing the hint of a smile to the seeker’s lips. It was what Valya needed to hear, especially in regards to casting, and receiving it from anyone else would have just rolled off him like rain from a roof.
With a warm gust of wind, shimmering lights ensconced Valentin’s body. Reaching up, the white king plucked a scepter from a brilliant glow, as if out of thin air, and pulled it to his chest in reverence. Bowing his head slightly, the lights about Valya brightened and flickered, only to extinguish with one final flash. In their wake, the glimmers left Valentin decked in a white silk tunic wrapped with a cape embossed with silver imagery of dragons in combat. The scepter in his hand now emitted prismatic sparks, courtesy of its giant white fire opal and spires of twisting icicle-like spines. The scepter’s handle, twin-braided in white-gold and silver like a caduceus, warmed in Valentin’s long-gloved hands. Finally, atop Valya’s snowy head, a crown of frostlike crystals jutted out in an arcing halo, embellished only by a single blood-red ruby.
The king’s raiment fell comfortably around Captain Frost’s body, and he couldn’t help but smile in appreciation at the draconic detailing. Would he be able to keep these garments later to put into his Hexiwizard keepsake collection, he wondered. Turning around as he pulled his right glove on tighter, Valentin looked back at the bench where Romeo sat. Even as pain shot up through his arm in bursts, the white king smiled back at the other with pleasure. He would have to speak up if he was to reach the other side of the room now.
“In queste battaglie innocenti, balliamo la nostra strada verso la vittoria,” In such innocent battles, let us dance our way to victory, tried Valentin again, hoping to improve his intonation. Language was all really just music, wasn’t it? “Perché, anche nei giorni più bui, combatterò per te ancora una volta quando diventerà difficile persino resistere.” For, even in darker days, I will fight for you once more when it becomes difficult even to stand.
Valentin’s smile brightened as he tipping his head slightly towards his co-captain, and his crown sat firmly in place with its perfect fit. He would need the stability when the battle turned violent. Then, sweeping one arm against the white silk of his cape to send its silver dragons billowing through the air, Valentin turned back to the front once more and prepared for combat. Stribog, everything hurts...
As Valentin scanned the opposition with his keen eyes, it seemed that an enemy priestess was pointing at him, perhaps trying to pick a fight. Returning her gaze, Valentin raised his hand as he spoke back in English.
"Oh, hungry to feel the pain, are you? Come and get it. Be our guest."

Cassanora rolled her eyes at the exchange of challenges on both sides. She had already said some words, she did not feel the need to say more. What was about to transpire was going to be messy and above all: chaotic. People could feign tactics and wit all they liked. This was just one big duel with extra sauce on top to spice things up. The fact it was dressed up like a pretty little chessboard was more of a distraction than an aid in figuring out what to do. But then again, that was likely half the challenge of it all. To see through the decor and realize what game you were actually playing.
Now her eyes had settled. She took her time inspecting the various- Ah... She noticed the Red Knight himself pointing her down with his lance. "Yes. Yes, that was to be expected." Cass sighed with a grin on her face. Was that excitement she felt? It wasn't every day you got the full attention of a knight in shining armour. Who could have known that they would actually one day wish to ride you down rather than save you from your tower. Fairytales were once more proven to be false promises. With a polite smile and nod, officially acknowledging the boy's awkward dedication to the game, Cassanora offered the Durmstrang Champion a quick two-finger salute. "Good luck, big guy." She said quietly to herself.

After watching the Durmstrang students step onto the board, Florian should have been prepared for the transformation that was about to occur, but in all honesty, he wasn't. As he stepped upon the board, he felt himself lifted upon a chariot that was fronted by a large black horse, something he couldn't help but smirk at. Growing up on a horse stables made the boy quite used to the conjured horse in front of him, and he would attempt to quell it if it became upset, more than likely succeeding. Florian wasn't expecting it to unless he rode it straight into a battle, which of course was rather likely. On the bright side, he felt confident now, knowing that he was in a position that he understood. He was ready.

A mix of emotions played across the face of hte smallest of hte Horntail Horde as Greta made her way amidst her bigger brothers (and sister) to the board. Nerves, determination, hints of fear and ferocity here and there... They all battled for dominion. Each of them would quickly be replaced by utter shock as soon as the light and transformations began to make themselves known for those players ahead of her who had found their places. And then... curiosity.
An impish grin would crook her lips, a pep finding its way to her step as she practically ran the last few steps to her own square. Yefim looked positively dashing, every bit the regal knight that she could so easily see him acting hte part. Felix's transformation brought forth a peel of giggles and bright smile, and Greta couldn't help but circle around him, plucking up the fabric of his dress and giving it a flourish along with teh grin she cast to him.
"My Queen." Amusement dotted the words as she dipped into a curtsy in front of him—a hasty one—before hopping back and hurrying to her own spot. The costumes were so elegant. Such a delightful surprise from what she had been expecting. She couldn't wait to see what her own would be.
Two feet landed squarely upon her own position when she jumped the last few feet to it, hands outstretched and back straight, ready for her own wardrobe change. Like the rest, she was soon enveloped in a bright white. She couldn't really make out what waas happening in the moment except to see a lot of white and fabric spurting forth, but when all was said and done, fingers plucked at the fine fabric as she turned, feeling rather important in her new priestly garb. A pirouette (for good measure) had nearly completed its rotation when the book appeared.
"Oof." The massive tome filled her hands quite unexpectedly, nearly toppling her off balance and to the floor. Nevermind bludgeoning, she'd be lucky if she could hoist it over her head, but she clutched the object to her chest nonetheless, face flushed with embarrassment and excitement for that which was yet to come.

Maxi raised his head with a gentle smile and looked back at André (@Alec Mason), a grateful light shone in his eyes. “Thanks, the same to you.” He’d reply, lips couldn’t help but curling up. It’s always good to have André by his side in such situations, the boy charming him and settling his mind whenever Maxi was near him. André had always been quite a dear friend to him - Maxi’s favourite schoolmate ever since he enrolled, he could even say.
And then it was time for a modern time magical Don Quixote came into play.
The transformation process was exciting, he hadn’t realised that magic could be this - um, magical. Lightly jumping onto the board, Maxi stretched his arms out and waited patiently for it. And less in a second he was on top of a horse, with shiny ebony armours on and a spear in hand. Heavy for sure, and he had to rest the lance on the horse he was riding. Speaking of the horse - it was magnificent, it pure black mane swirling in the air. Horse-riding wasn’t an unfamiliar activity for him, seeing his grandfather owned some in his stables on the manor, and Maxi was quite sure that he could handle this well. What frustrated him was the heavy plate and lance, weight-lifting was definitely not his strength.
“I…hope so?” He blinked upon hearing Roberta’s (@Sylvain Wyllt) inquiry, while lifting his spare arm normal to his body. Rather difficult, but he was trying. “I sure envy you guys in fabric.” He laughed slightly, raising a brow. But still, this was PERFECT. Exactly like what he had often imagined in his daydreams, knight in shining armours. The fairytales - his fairytales - had come true. And this made Maxi hyped.
“Hey, I like your chariot!” He’d squeak to Milo (@Delilah Stewart) on his left, whose hair coloured lighter than his own looked charming in black armours. Grinning to Milo merrily while admiring his senior’s attire, Maxi noted to himself that he would definitely compose a nice little novella about the story a king, a queen, two rooks, two bishops and two knights when everything was over.
And finally - he turned his attention to André again, eager to see what he had become. And oh. André was definitely not failing his expectations, he had never did. “Oh Dré -” His eyes widened in favour of his friend’s once-in-a-blue-moon shiny new appearance. The plain-looking yet delicate robe, the hefty but sure knowledgeable book - all this put together made a magnificent bishop André Alarie. “I’ve always said that you’d look great in a fairy kingdom.” He remarked and looked down from the horseback with some difficulties. “This is fabulous, don’t you think? We are, we are like people from the Middle Ages!” Of course they were. Would any 21 century personage, be it muggle or wizard, show up in armours? Hi Lear. Not to Maxi’s knowledge, no.
Feeling much settled he would turn his gaze to the other chessboards, trying to locate some Canadian girl with blazing auburn hair. Ah, there she was, no other than the fun-loving Phyllis (@Bridget Collins) a knight also - in shiny silver armour though, and on a dreamy white horse. She looked exactly like a warrior, ready to smack her opponents hard. Maxi smiled upon her silhouette, enlightened seeing this girl whom he had made his acquaintance back in spring. It was Phyllis who introduced him to all this - if she hadn’t showed up in time near the goblet, he wouldn’t even be standing here today. And he was indeed quite fond of her. It might be something about her gay smile, or something about her carefree nature and flaming hair - either way, she was different. He’d grin half merrily and half apologetically (for the reason that he wasn’t paying much attention to her earlier due to his tension), while whispering a low “Good luck.” in English. Even if she wouldn’t be looking in his way and hearing him, Maxi felt it was his duty to pray for her success.
Time to be back and get ready. Despite the new heaviness, Maxi did feel secure in such outfit. Even if the Durmstrangs were physically strong, he shouldn’t fear much of them smacking him hard - and with the lance in hand, maybe he could even smack them back?

Johannes had always fancied himself a wardrobe fit to put any black hole to shame, but he had once supposed that white wouldn't be too bad for Durmstrang between all of the other unknown ways their first task could go. A full outfit of the stuff was going to make him uncomfortable as hell, but that was one small sacrifice in the name of setup. Watching his fellow Horntails don their dedicated regalia, however, drew into question the validity of his own ability to add to the party's skillset. The answer - the only answer, really - was that his doubts didn't matter, because he was here now and slacking off was not on the table.
Glancing about the room for some semblance of moral support and/or banter to distract from the budding stages of internal dilemmas before the game's start, he was quietly dismayed to see Cielle's attention being completely taken up by the task's seriosity in a way that Johannes had rarely seen before. No luck there for him, not even from the white horse nickering idly in preparation.
An idea came to him as he took in her new attire, so different from his own. She was the type to have insisted on playing a knight when playing princesses. Most of them were, from Johannes' little information about the others, but Cielle in particular didn't seem the type to be content as the damsel in distress. It was only fitting that both she and their Champion take on such a noble role about their beloved white niffler king. As for their queen... Well, Felix somehow rocked that dress between all of his embarrassment.
Though Johannes had watched his team find their bearings one by one, the surreal weight of it all didn't seem to abate as he stepped onto the chessboard. Taking his proper place amongst the Horde in a swirl of white silk and light, he tried to appreciate his own wardrobe quick-change even as the ambiguously holy garments made him feel like even more of a fraud than usual. Perhaps he could think of this as an elaborate cosplay, a cooler Power Rangers morph, or a very high-budget LARP session. The magical girl transformation (it was one for the ages) certainly fit the bill for all of those options, and Johannes could rest easier knowing the liturgical robes he had on were just a costume.
He knew no French and had long stopped believing in something better for himself, but the only phrase his Author wants to keep in right now is 'We're going to fuck you up, c'est la vie.' The overly heavy tome’s existence in his hands, though ambiguously denoted, could only mean one thing and one thing only - inevitable injury. Through the power of magical endorsement, Johannes was destined to cause religious trauma, both emotional and physical.
