At the signal, Phaedra drew back her arm and took aim. Although quick to summon a blindfold, Jones was quicker, efficient—clearly keen on maintaining his title as undefeated. The first split went wayward after Martin, tempting to attribute with Conjunctivitis’ effects. Nevertheless, despite the inflammation and eye-watering it caused, she made out the satisfying silhouette of the split that did land as around Dmitri’s face in particular. Good enough. Ravenclaw’s tactic may not have been overly flashy, but it was an equal inconvenience. “How grating. If you blather this much, I can only hope we’re deafened next.” Thanks to Martin’s backfire, this wasn’t the worst of openers.

The next round would prove to be less scary, but still somewhat scary. Pericles had the guts to split another spell and Alan knew that this took a lot of effort, which made is such a shame that his efforts were not paying off. Santario dodged out of the disarming charm's way gracefully, whereas Dmitri conjured up a shield that made the spell burst into small sparks that extinguished before hitting the ground. Santario in turn, the good ally she was, would turn to Dmitri and free him off the blindfold that had been previously placed upon his face. Phaedra would go on to cast a marvelous spell only for it to miss Santario by an inch or so as the brutal blasting curse whirled past her. While she had managed to avoid the brunt of the explosion, the sparks released by the explosion that followed would hit her like pieces of shrapnel.

Alan could practically feel of the tension and knew that Dmitri was having a blast with his success. Alan hoped he wouldn't take it too far or he might just have to remind the Slytherin captain about the meaning of good sportmanship.

"Expelliarmus."

Pericles' bloodshot eyes narrowed, though one would be hard-pressed to determine if this was due to annoyance or the hex he suffered. One of his spells had struck a shield, the other veered off again, eliciting a terse frown. The duel had just begun, yet he was preemptively tense to find it wasn't going triumphantly as the previous match. Perhaps it had made him overconfident. The Ravenclaw reminded himself to slow, try and catch his breath, though the itch in his eyes wasn't helping his concentration. He blinked hard, readying his wand while squinting across the piste.

Really, why do people still try?

This was in the forefront of Dmitri's mind as he conjured up a Protego with his eyes closed. And for good measure, too—if the subtle reverberation of his shield was any indication. It didn't take long before he was able to see again, thanks to Santario removing his blindfold.

"Appreciate it, Martin."

If anything, their seamless coordination—from years, now, of working together as captains—was something that put them miles ahead of this duel.

It was never fair, to begin with.

As the blindfold had wrapped around his eyes, she knew leaving him like that was not for the better of their team. Supporting him was second nature to her and required little thought before she took action. As Pericles directed another set of disarming spells their way, Santario gracefully dropped down to the balls of her feet, allowing it to sail right past. As she bounced up and stepped toward Dmitri, Phae's spell came for her, and while she deftly avoided most of it, the second wave of damage hit her like a buckshot withdrawing a hiss from her lips as her fingers wrapped around the black cloth around her partner's eyes. As she pulled it away, she was met with appreciation which she reciprocated with a head nod and a murmur, "Anytime." Once Dmitri was secure, she would take back her place, ready for whatever may come.

Phaedra knew better than to hurl a spell towards a blindfolded upperclassman, and considering its power, it was the right decision to hold back. While Jones conjured up the expected shield, Phaedra focused Martin who was preoccupied with assisting him. The blast struck empty ground forcefully enough to send shrapnel flying. It was not the cleanest spell, but well within the rule books. Things were getting tense.

The rounds were finally calming down, though Dmitri went through great effort of spreading his body binding curse, with the intention of hitting both Ravenclaws. However Phaedra was able to conjure up a shield at the last moment, causing Dmitri's spell to rebound and actually hit the viper. Dmitri's body would freeze up and moving would become impossible for now. Pericles however succumbed to the effects of Dmitri's spells but not before he was able to heal himself, which would aid him a bit in his suffering as his body would also freeze up painfully and not a muscle would listen to him anymore. Santario would use the lack of offensive spells towards them to heal herself up. Alan was just slightly amused that Dmitri would suffer the effects of his own spells just moments after he had been bragging so smugly.

The curse left Dmitri's wand and he watched with bated breath as it split into two. Petrificus Totalus wasn't really a spell that saw much use when it came to the Viridian Vipers and the boy felt it was right to try to experiment on this duel.

It wasn't like they were having a hard time.

The Slytherin captain smirked as the spell connected with the male Ravenclaw—and it only grew once he saw the glittering shield the other one conjured up.

Gotcha.

He had just enough time to wink at Santario (who was deftly healing herself, cloaked in a sparkling light) before the rebounded curse of paralysis claimed his entire body.

As the glittering purple light of the healing spell encased her body, she side-eyed her partner, watching the spell rebound back at him. This was an expectation as she caught his wink on the way down. Her response was the light closing of her eyes for just a second with an almost unnoticeable tilt of her head at a downward angle.

She wouldn’t consider herself as having a lack of offensive spells, more so, they had a plan, and she intended to stick with it or adapt around it as necessary, which, if that meant utilizing the thing she was exceptionally skilled at then that was what she would do. Most of her track record was being extremely offensive forward in duels. Seeing her as less than an aggressor should be considered out of character. There was a time and place for everything.
