... moderation will follow ...
This was perhaps the most intense duel that Alan ever had to moderate. He had no idea who would end this duel as the winner and who would lose. Both teams were very strong both individually but also in their pairs. Dmitri and Santario were a force to be reckoned with, however Phaedra was the only duellists so far that had managed to beat Alan. Pericles too was pretty strong from what Alan could tell, though he didn't remember having the honor of duelling against the previous prefect before. Alan was excited to see the strategies take place, because they all had to be quite witty in order to tip the odds in their favor.
Alan stepped to the piste and gave all the duellings a glance to check if they were ready. "Well this will be interesting," he said with a nervous chuckle, as he pushed a strand of hair behind his ear and gave a nod. With a duel that was so undecided from the get go, the first round might be especially important. After all they all had to play this smart and knowing the individual duellists, he knew they were smart and quite scary. He was quite happy and honored to be the one moderating this, even if he had to pay a lot more attention to what was happening in front of his eyes, because he knew it would be fast paced and brutal. "Alright, you know the rules, have fun and good luck to each of your. Your duel will begin in-" Alan began before counting down. "3, 2, 1-
GO!"

At this point in time, Dmitri has seen his fair share of duels. Won all of them, in fact.
And this one was no different. Though the opponents he'd be facing now weren't the first years he had to deal with in the previous year, it was a welcome change. A challenge. Finally.
"Martin, I don't have all day." He'd quip at his teammate—one of his co-captains—who was, by now, moving to take her place on the piste. "Let's get this over and done with in record time. I've got NEWTs to study for."
Too bad these Ravenclaws had to face off against two of Slytherin's captains on their first duel. Dmitri just hoped they didn't traumatize them too badly.
He had a feeling they were already going to start shaking in their boots even before the duel has begun.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 4
The duellist Pericles Dralt had become something of an enigma. Seldom seen beyond classes, he was always hunkered away in his dormitory's secret chamber, or practicing relentlessly in the later hours, once the duel club was less crowded. His drifting, daydreaming manners had become more haunted these days. Yet the promise of a duel season would coax him back onto the stage, back into the spotlight, put on display before his peers. To some, a match was a chance at bragging rights. To Pericles, it was an opportunity for practical application of all he had learned.
The ghost-like lad drifted towards the stage. He sought his partner with a wandering gaze, the faintest arch of eyebrows seen once he'd spotted her. To be paired with Phaedra Stavrou was no small thing. Pericles had, on the down-low, idolized her. She was nothing short of a star student, as well as- from what he saw on the surface- the picture of a perfect heir. His strange mannerisms meant he conveyed his respects by basically never speaking to her. He was quiet in her presence, or fumbled his words, often avoiding the upper-classmen as if interacting with her was more intimidating than the many horrors he had faced at Hogwarts. He would rather face off against Slytherin's notorious duel captain than to initiate a conversation. Today, it seemed he would be doing both.
"Hello, Phaedra." Pericles spoke softly, though it was less of the shy mumble she usually received. Four years of chaos and tragedy had rendered him more detached, but also more confident. "I'll try to keep up with you." The smile accompanying these words was somewhere between reassurance and preemptive apology. Needless to say, if he had to go against duellists as competent as Santario and Dmitri, he was glad to have one of Ravenclaw's powerhouses at his side. Speaking of Santario... he had hardly seen her since that wretched day with the boggart. One might even suspect Pericles had avoided anyone involved in that heartbreaking encounter. He regarded her oddly: both happy to see her, and somehow sad, momentarily regretting his self-imposed seclusion. Yet he drew his wand and bowed his head with old-fashioned respects, quickly donning the unemotive mask of a seasoned duellist.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 4

It was the start of duelling season, and she couldn’t say that she looked forward to anything more than this. Being paired with Dmitri for the first stage was the only thing that made it better. Despite the teasing and sass-mouthing, she gave him, Santario still admired him greatly. She took notes on all his duels she could watch. They had started this team together and now finally got to duel together. Santario was ecstatic, not that she would ever tell him; his ego could hardly fit in the room as it was.
When it was time to take their places, Santario was on Dmitri’s heels despite his quip, met with a silent roll of her eyes. “Do not fret your pretty little head, Dmitri. Stress can cause hair loss, you know.” She jabbed back at him. When it came to their opponents, truth be told, she was less than pleased to be going up against Phaedra. The first person to ever render her unconscious in a duel. Part of her wanted revenge. Though hidden well, the other part was intimidated by the girl. If it had been anyone other than Dmitri by her side this time, she would have been far more worried.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 4
Elusive as she may have seemed, the duelling hall was one of her few routine locales. “Hello, Pericles,” she greeted with a rare tenderness, one reserved for only the most appreciated of allies—and dare-say, friends. Such labels were falsely conflated among the upper-crust, but Phaedra considered him worthy of the distinction, if only time were willing. Although oblivious to her level of prestige in his eyes, the Dralt heir in hers was intelligent, mellow, and endearingly fixated with similar interests, which afforded him more patience than most. Given the nature of today’s duel, perhaps it would be needed. “Try to? I have no doubt in your capabilities, Pericles.” Phaedra then regarded the Slytherin opposite the piste. Finally, a head to head with Jones. Phaedra did not verbalise it but she, like many, was waiting for his downfall. Craving to be the cause of it, even. Her thumb rolled her wand between eager hands. It was a lot of pressure, but this would be exciting.

There was something indescribable terrifying and chaotic about how the duel started. Perhaps Dmitri was a little too cocky, however he was able to back it up nicely. As he cast his spell it would beautifully split into two seemingly independent spells and each of them would hit one of the Ravenclaw duellists. Pericles and Phaedra would feel their eyes swell and itch uncomfortably at the nasty curse the Slytherin had unleashed. The male eagle would try to return the favor by disarming both of the Slytherins, but something about the sight of Dmitri made him freeze up and he missed him by a mile. While he was still fumbling, the split spell meant to hit Santario went astray and would have possibly hit Dmitri, if the older Slytherin hadn't beautifully managed to evade it. As if guided by an unknown breeze of air. Phaedra was similarly unlucky in regards of hitting Santario, as she targeted the fierce Slytherin girl, the sight of Dmitri next to her momentarily messed with her and her spell burst into the ground after splitting. The second half of the spell, heading towards Dmitri, would actually manage to collide with the Slytherin's face and conjure a plain black blindfold that would wrap around his eyes and take his view. Lastly there was Santario and Alan couldn't help but wonder if she was nervous about this duel or whether the sheer chaos of it had caused her to draw a blank, as her wind jinx launched back into her, as the jets of wind began dragging at her hair and clothes, causing a slight imbalance in her stance. Alan winced, that must have hurt.

Duel nerves? Possibly. Flustered? You bet.
Phaedra's comment of confidence brought about a blatant red tinge to the tips of Peri's ears. The intimidation factor of going toe-to-toe with two high-class Slytherins was slightly exceeded by distraction, an exceedingly rare opportunity to try and impress the upper-classmen. He wouldn't realize how much he was in his head about it until he let that first spell fly. "Expelliarmus!" This was his second time using the spell-spreading talent in an official capacity. During the summer championship, this had gone unprecedently well, a sheer lack of error and fatality of aim seeing Peri off the piste with head held high. This first go at it wasn't half as clean. Though the spell did split, one went wide, while the other was effortlessly dodged by Dmitri. An awkward frown crinkled the eaglet's mouth. He furrowed his forehead, fighting to hone his focus all too late.
The hex hit him hard. With the whites of the pigment-lacking lad turned red, the gray of his irises became all the more pronounced, leaving him looking rather ghoulish. He strained to keep his eyes open, though they watered from the sting. Peri squinted, attempting to take to aim, swallowing down any utterance of discomfort. At least their opponents looked inconvenienced.

Whoever said Dmitri only performs well in duels against first years was a big fat liar—as it stands, even duelists his age trembled in his presence.
And he was positively beaming.
Before being blindfolded, the Slytherin Captain was just able to see the effect he had on both of his opponents; and absolutely relished the unsteady hands he induced on them all. Cackling almost maniacally, Dmitri called out, "It seems to me that you're more scared than you let on! I get you, though, I really do!" His hysterical laughter did not cease even as darkness overwhelmed his vision. "Thank you so much for the handkerchief, really. I'm already tearing up!" A final, almost-embarrassing guffaw escaped his lips.
Santario was lucky he was blindfolded before witnessing her blunder. If he had, there would have been some shade thrown her way, as well—not that she was intimidated by him in the slightest. To his surprise during the years he had been captain with her, the girl had guts.
Guts; something these other two birdbrains had yet to find, he thought amusedly to himself.

Just one year ago, Santario was well on her way as a changeling and had been dangerously close to becoming a full-blown hag. Despite her excitement for both her partner and duelling in general, it did nothing to stave away the intrusive thoughts that brought back a haze of memories.
Thankfully both spells that targeted her went awry, Phae not even getting close to her and a last-minute redirect. Santario’s eyes had slid to Alan. Seeing him on the piste was a trigger bringing back garbled insults slung at him from her lips. Words that were barely intelligible through the fog and the feelings that rippled through her made her nauseous.
Pull it together! She mentally screamed at herself, eyes focusing back onto her opponents. “Ventus.” As the syllables rolled off her tongue, she knew something was wrong. The energy felt blocked and wasn’t flowing correctly through her to her wand. Instinctively she pulled her arms up to cover her face and brace against the blowback that whipped around her. San’s right foot planted backward to recatch her balance. “Merde.”* She hissed as the winds swirled around her, inflicting the force of her own power on herself. Looking over at Dmitri, she saw that he still had his wand but was blindfolded… Well, this was an interesting start.
