Falling. June was falling. The pit in her stomach grew and grew as she sensed the ground coming nearer and nearer. "AH!" June sat up with a jolt, only to find that she was not falling, but instead was quite stationary. Stationary in a bed. In the hospital wing.

June looked around for a moment, trying to piece together what had happened. It was when her eyes landed on Maggie Hawkins that it finally clicked. June groaned as she lay back down in the bed, grabbing the pillow behind her and covering her face with it. Her chest was incredibly sore, and her left leg was bandaged up, seemingly healed from a break. Thank Merlin for healing magic, she'd probably be able to leave after she rested up for a moment.

June ever so slightly peeked at her friend over the pillow, almost too ashamed to look at her. "How bad was it?" She sighed, propping the pillow behind her so she could sit up in the bed. She averted her gaze, her cheeks red with embarrassment. "That is probably single-handedly the dumbest thing I've ever done. I can't believe I pulled your broom out from under me." June's eyes went wide in horror. "Oh no, your broom! Is it alright? I didn't break it, did I? I don't think I could forgive myself if I did... It was a gift, you said? Shit..." June swore under her breath. She buried her face in her hands. "I'm probably the worst student you'll ever teach."

xxxWell, at least Maggie could say that the whole flying experience was entertaining. Sure, she'd probably not be winning any awards for her skills at teaching inexperienced flyers how to race up in the sky, but she could at least walk away from the whole thing with a story to tell (and, perhaps, if time would permit, a best friend she could joke with about it).

Maggie now had a newfound respect for Professor Stube, to put it simply.

As June woke from her slumber, the one that Maggie felt strangely responsible for, the girl jolted a bit. For the last hour or so she'd been sitting at the bedside, playing with her fingers and focusing anywhere but on the girl who lay before her, broken and bandaged and bruised. Looking at what had happened to June on Maggie's own broom just elicited a guilt so heavy and weighing on her soul that it couldn't be ignored.

"Oh, uh, hey," Maggie greeted, voice uncharacteristically small and gentle. Maybe it had damaged June's hearing, somehow. Maybe the fall had rendered her completely unable to hear anything above a whisper. Never knew. "It was, uh, pretty bad, man. But I've probably done dumber stuff than that, so don't stress about it!"

If that was Maggie's only way of comforting someone, maybe she needed some serious help. Maybe a comfort intensive or something of the sort.

Still, she thought that being more gentle might help June in the long run. Her poor, poor head. And chest. And leg. And... everything else.

The broom was a welcome distraction. "On the bright side, the broom's fine. Lucky that it made it out unscathed, but she's fit as a fiddle. Big long scratch on the side, but I think it gives some personality, y'know? Oh!" Maggie turned to her left, gesturing to a little vase of pink tulips that were sitting on the bedside table. "Someone left those for you. Dunno who."

Funny story, Maggie did know. And the person who had left the tulips was her, Maggie Hawkins. Surprise!

Figured it would be a nice gesture. Something that might brighten June's day and make up for the fact that Maggie had nearly killed her by association with the offending broom. Obviously, she couldn't tell that it had been her, by virtue of it was nobody's business why.

@June Selwyn

I really value when people use violence for me, it's actually one of my love languages.

Pretty bad? June gulped. How bad was 'pretty bad'? "Well, thanks for bringing me here. I suppose I should have listened to my tutor..." She signed, the embarrassment and shame of her idiotic idea pressing deeper into her. June's heart sunk further and further as Maggie explained the damage that had been done to her broom. "Maggie, I'm so sorry..." She felt a bit better at the fact that her friend truly didn't seem that upset about the new 'character' her broom had.

June turned to see the vase of delicate pink tulips setting by her bed. It was as if the joyfulness of the flowers was smiling at her, and she couldn't help but smile back. Although Maggie might have claimed she didn't know who brought the flowers, June felt as if she could make an educated guess. "Well, if they walk by again, point them out," June looked Maggie in the eyes, "so I can give them a genuine thank-you."

June stretched out her bandaged leg. It was a bit stiff, but was well enough to walk on. She sat up, grabbing the vase of flowers and enjoying their sweet scent for a moment. "Right, we should probably get out of here, then." Someone vomited a few beds down from the two girls. June's face went sour. "Quickly."
