Delicately brushing a few stray strands of hair from my face, I gave them a second to gather themselves, a literal second mind you, before I dove right into the meat of the matter. "As you can see, this is the Duelling Club, and this is to be the stage where you practice casting spells that you know with the intention of causing harm to your opponent." A flourish of my hand would bring their attention to the platform. There was no need for further pomp on the matter. I signalled to them in pairs and directed them where to stand. [Gabriel Mattix] and [Phaedra Stavrou]. "These will be the pairs that face off against each other in the first round. Good luck. And remember; use the pointy end. Take to the platform."
As soon as they did so I waited quietly for them to observe the formal etiquette when entering an official duel, which included bowing and the general show of respect to the contender. As soon as this was done I gave them a short while longer to steel their nerves for what was to come next. Without further hesitation, I said simply "begin."

Gabriel stepped onto the dueling platform with great expectations for what was to come next. First introductions — first duels, what’s the difference.
After giving the customary bow and sign of respect, Gabriel gracefully took his wand out from its hidden holster within his cloak with an air of importance swirling around him, but as for how long that would last, he didn’t know. However, he did know that his wand is ‘Rather Powerful, and it requires to be Firmly Handled and Expects Conviction from its owner...’ this he would have and use.
Before the duel had started, he had created a set of ideas that would prove interesting in a duel. Steeling himself for the first attack, Gabriel cast his first spell in the duel. <<Mucus ad Nauseam>> He was using this spell only because if administered correctly, it would create an advantage for him, but also because he wanted to try it out...

There were at least a thousand things Phaedra would rather have done than willingly climb on stage and potentially humiliate herself.
So why on earth had she signed up for the club in the first place? The blue tie around her neck would elicit responses of "curiosity!" and more stereotypes of her house - and sure, those were a small part of it - but mostly, the girl had just wanted some sense of security.
Phaedra was paranoid. There wasn't a pair of ears in all of Hogwarts' student body who hadn't heard of the incidents by now, of the masked man attacking students in the one place they were supposed to be kept from harm. Her very own encounter of the aggressor during a patrol a few weeks prior still raised those hairs on her skin and kept her jostling awake, wide-eyed, throughout the night at the slightest bump or creak. To add, she also had a growing suspicion that she was being stalked around the school, by one of her own dormmates no less.
Needless to say, she didn't appreciate the turn of events one bit. If taking matters into her own hands and learning how to hurt was the solution to self-preservation, then so be it. It hurt her to admit, but clearly, the professors couldn't be arsed to check who had access in and out of the castle nor relied on - and if that blonde stuck to her like a lost puppy again she swore she would lose it.
The raven-haired girl stood in the middle of the crowd, arms crossed, as she listened to Professor Valtome give an opening. After quickly finishing, the half-elf then signalled for her and another peer to start everything off by duelling first. She felt her stomach drop and instinctively wiped the sweat off of her hands. It was too late to turn back now.
Polite yet unenthusiastic mumbles of "sorry" and "excuse me" escaped from her lips as she began to make her way through the batch of children. Once at the base of the platform's stairs, she sauntered her way up, pulling her wand out of her robe pocket as she went.
Across from her was another Ravenclaw; a boy with brown hair. Phaedra had seen him around before but they had never exchanged any words. He looked a bit shorter than average and his build was nothing spectacular, but the same applied for her and she knew it would be silly to underestimate him solely on that. At his customary bow, she graciously returned one of her own and then took a stance, ready to begin.
Gabriel was quick and went to cast first but Phaedra reacted in kind, pointing her wand straight at the other to hopefully prevent him from speaking further. The Curse of the Bogies could be a nasty little thing, but any spell was harmless if the caster was too preoccupied with horrible allergies.
"Steleus!"

Take a defensive stance and cast Steleus, the Sneezing Hex.

Amadea had been standing toward the side of the room when the duel had started, silently watching everything happening around her. Today she had been given the task to assist the professors in the moderation of duels. She had moderated some of her own duels before, so she wasn't too nervous, not that she had much to be nervous about anyway. All she had to do was make sure that no one died or was brutally injured in any way.
She supposed she preferred assisting the professors, as she didn't have to worry about healing anyone (not that she knew any counterspells anyway...). Today she was assisting the one and only Fainauriel Valtome who, coincidentally, had moderated her own duel. Amadea hoped she wouldn't embarrass herself too badly in front of him.
Turning her attention back to the task at hand, Amadea watched as Gabriel and Phaedra took their positions and began the duel. Gabriel started out the duel by attempting to cast the Curse of the Bogies at Phaedra. Amadea watched as the spell flew across the stage, toward Phaedra...until it missed her, flying off behind her.
Phaedra seemed to have some better luck, as she cast the Sneezing Hex at Gabriel. It hit him squarely in the chest and there was a moment of silence before he began sneezing. Amadea felt for the poor boy; surely it would be distracting to be sneezing while attempting to cast his next spell. Both of the duelists still seemed unfazed despite the sneezing, so Amadea watched the duel continue.

— Phaedra successfully hits Gabriel with the Sneezing Hex causing 215 damage.
— Gabriel misses Phaedra.
— Gabriel now has 285 HP; Phaedra is still at full health (300 HP)

Gabriel, make sure to specify what kind of stance you want - since you did not specify I assumed it was a neutral stance.

The boy's curse had flown past her, colliding somewhere against the wall behind her rather than where he had intended. Meanwhile, her own spell shot out and before she could process it, it made a solid connection into the boy's chest and quickly took effect as he started to sneeze. Steleus wasn't the most harmful hex, but it was annoying and would surely make for a good distraction so she could come up with something to hit him with again before he could recover.
As the boy sneezed away, she calculated her next moves. The fire-making charm was an option she considered, but she'd rather avoid the firey element at all costs considering its reputation around school. Additionally, there was the thought of worsening his allergic symptoms by casting something like the Curse of the Bogies in return, in hopes that the dreadful, cold-like results of both spells could stack together and make his time a living hell. This she would go with - it was clever, yet not too cruel, and luck seemed to be on her side anyway. For now. She hoped the boy didn't also have any tricks up his sleeve but she would have to act before he had the opportunity to even think of doing so.
Quickly whipping her wand back up to fire, she took on a more aggressive stance. There was a brief pause as the girl gestured the spell's teardrop shape into the air, and immediately, she wasted no time to shout "Mucus ad nauseam!"

Take on an aggresive stance and cast Mucus ad nauseam, the Curse of the Bogies.
