Even though her face didn't show, the look in Regina's eyes was enough for anybody to guess the elation she felt at her very first victory as an official duellist. It wasn't quite as satisfactory as she couldn't completely knock Logan Baird unconscious at the very end, but a win was still a win. She'd been able to display incredible fighting prowess, just like she'd always wanted.
(Maybe now her parents would finally be proud. But she knew it was an impossible wish. Nothing she did was ever enough for them.)
Regina didn't come out of her first duel unscathed, however, thus was the reason she was instructed to spend the rest of the day at the Hospital Wing until she was completely healthy again. She was quite mercilessly flamed, two times, from an Incendio Duo and an Incendio. Now she knew where the Hufflepuff Duelling Team's blazing reputation had come from. There was also the Curse of Bogies effects which she'd overcome through sheer willpower, but that wasn't any news to someone like her. The young witch had already had the pleasant experience of dealing with...harmful spells before, among other things - courtesy of a very wicked older sister. She was so used to it that she'd eventually grown a bit numb to such pain.
The Gryffindor was now sitting on a medical cot, silently letting the nurse assistant to tend to her wounds and check her over. As soon as her condition was deemed stable enough after drinking a healing potion and was administered healing balm for her burns, Regina was left to rest alone. She stared at the ceiling with a peaceful expression, mulling her first accomplishment over in her head and allowing the adrenaline from the duel to gradually die down.

Shadows Of The Past
It was only right for Aurelia to check on her duelling partner after their victory. Regina was quick to leave the scene and head up to the hospital wing. The younger Gryffindor had taken a few hits whereas Aurelia was unscathed. But what Regina viscously attempted to delivered hurt much more than what she received. Regina was her roommate, and as frightening at it was, Aurelia had questioned the girl's sanity during this duel. The violet-eyed girl was terrifying. Ruthless in her duel, unrestrained.
It was time for a proper talk. Regina was already seated on a cot, with a healer by her side when Aurelia entered the Hospital wing. With a few strides, Aurelia had made her way to her. "Regina," She began. The older gryffindor would approach this as kindly as she would if speaking to her younger brother Heinrich - one year Regina's senior. "Not your first time experiencing fire I reckon? You handled it well, I wouldn't. " Aurelia hated fire, that was for sure.
"Somethings wrong." Indeed, no one laughs in the middle of being burnt alive. Her nonchalance quite taken Aurelia aback, especially with the girl being three years younger than her. Aurelia remembered not having tolerated burns well when she was her age.

The sounds of approaching footsteps disturbed Regina's quiet musings as orchid eyes snapped to where a figure was walking towards her cot. It was a reflex harnessed inside a bad environment, but her right hand almost twitched to instinctively grab her wand. The only reason why she wasn't shooting upright and pointing the black polished wood at the person was because she didn't recognised Aurelia Notrésvace as a potential threat.
Well, not for now, anyways. Regina's natural distrust of people prevented her from seeing anybody as completely harmless.
"Every pain has a gain behind it. It is inevitable, but suffering is optional," She answered coldly, as if fighting through the sensation of being burnt alive was the most normal thing in the whole world. "When people hurt me, I like to make them hurt more."
It was a lesson the young Gryffindor had learnt from years of emotional torment. In a way, she wasn't that much different from her older sister - whereas Rebecca actively attacked those she hated, Regina was much more elusive. She never let people know whether she was enraged or unaffected. She didn't let them know when she would strike. Once they did find out, they avoided her like a plague.
After all, the most silent predators were the most vicious.
"Wrong? No, there is nothing wrong with me. I am merely shaped the way the world desires me to be," The younger girl narrowed her eyes into contemptuous purple slits. She didn't expect Aurelia to understand - they were just Housemates. They were more cautious allies than friends, bounded by a single agreement with both sides waiting for the other to slip up first. It was an unstable alliance and Regina was still too wary of the older Lion to confess anything.

Shadows Of The Past
The talk about hurt... suffering, only a few years her junior was disheartening and even worrisome. It was a privilege she had, although she had her own disagreements with her parents currently, they had done what they thought was best when she was a child. The older Gryffindor had endured her fair share of pain throughout her school years but was safely sheltered from harm anytime before that. The only gain the pain had for Regina was the wrath of ruthlessness she had displayed in their duel and the dwindled receptiveness to her own discomfort.
Obstinate the girl's words were portrayed much. Aurelia would find herself sharing on her own. Regina already knew of one secret, while the incident of the dhampir attack was already rumoured and gossiped heavily about in the past year, it was still something she kept closed about. Trust was a fragile thing. "When I was barely a third year. Someone hurt me badly, it was never intentional but it traumatised me nevertheless" A hand would lift her hair behind her shoulder, revealing a nasty gruesome scar on her neck - it would stare back at Regina with two indents of eyes - what was left of the puncture of fangs, and shallow bumpy ridges of skin from the bite of a lower jaw akin to a smile. "After that, I was scared, confused, and most of all, angry. It took a while to heal, both physically, emotionally and mentally, in fact, I still am. The emotions were perhaps the most challenging part."
The scar was usually not displayed for long, it was distracting, so she'd let her hair cascade back down her neck. "I hurt people - another dhampir - because of what I went through. It developed like poison... toxic dealing with my own emotions and the trauma alone." Aurelia went on. She had hurt Kaegen because of her fiery emotions, bloodbaited him like a predator-prey. Vengeance she sought and the angrier she grew. Now to see Regina already on that road like she was in the past. "Pain... was not what I desired, I don't think anyone desires it but it seems almost inevitable even to the innocent undeserving of it." Her hand would reach out to Regina's resting on the cot if the younger girl would allow it.
"If at the absence of pain, what do you desire yourself to be?"

Why are you telling me this, she wondered as she listened to Aurelia shared a clearly traumatic story of her past. The trust between them was merely hanging on by a thread of mutual curiosity and interest. Regina herself had never once allowed another person to know her true demons, let alone somebody whom she weren't even friends with. Not even @Kim Sato, her childhood friend and the only one she had unconditional faith in, knew the details. Memories of the unbearable heat, searing sensation and a bloodcurdling scream was something that Regina kept viciously hidden.
So why then, was Aurelia willing to share her pain? She had thought they were perhaps similar on certain aspects, but apparently not on this. Was this an attempt at gaining Regina's sympathy? Ridiculous - the older Gryffindor was well aware her emotions didn't function normally as any other person. Perhaps this was the brunette's way of coercing Regina to open up more to her.
And then Aurelia showed her the scar. It was gruesome, indeed, something that would have made the weak-hearted faint instantly. Orchid purple eyes bore into the indents of a creature's fangs that stood out terrifyingly against the other girl's beautiful aura. Now came the confession of unleashing that resentment on others, and suddenly Aurelia didn't seem like a stranger to her anymore. Though Regina didn't actively seek to harm others out of her own volition, there was no suppressing the urge to make others burn like she had been burnt.
"Absence of pain?" She murmured, face devoid of emotions and eyes slightly vacant as she was staring back at not the fifth-year Gryffindor, but her younger, more innocent self inside gilded cage that was the Miller Manor. She didn't even register the hesitant but gentle touch on her hand. "Who would I have been indeed, if I had not experienced pain."
The sudden noise of the Hospital Wing's doors opening snapped her mind out of the trance, and she barely kept herself from flinching when she finally noticed Aurelia holding her hand. (There was something almost...sisterly about it. She wouldn't know. Rebecca had never been anything of the sort with her.) Regina turned her head when two familiar voices enthusiastically called out for her.
"There she is!" Her oldest brother Rupert smiled proudly as he approached her cot with elegant strides of his long legs. Harold, his inseparable twin, was accompanying him as usual. "Congratulations on your very first win, Gina! I knew you could do it. My baby sister truly is the best duellist of her year!"
"I am not a baby," She scoffed, annoyed with Rupert's coddling though far used to it.
Harold patted her head fondly despite the scowl on her face.
"You know you will always be a baby to Ru. He has quite a parent complex, he does," The second Miller Heir teased, earning himself a slight elbow to the rib from his brother. Emerald green eyes finally shifted and acknowledge Aurelia's presence, his grin growing polite. "And you must be Miss Notresvace. Brilliant duel out there, you both put up quite the fight."
Stepping forward, Harold extended his hand in a sign of greeting.
"Harold Miller, and this is my older twin Rupert. We're both sixth year Slytherins. Thank you for healing Gina, we appreciate you looking out for her."

Shadows Of The Past
What ever had she experienced for her to feel like the definition of herself was only curated from the pain she had endured? It was almost as if Regina was disassociating as she spoke. Aurelia didn't know quite how to respond to that, and she wasn't really good at talking about feelings and much less about others' trauma. Her brows merely furrowed, giving the other girl an empathetic look, especially when she flinched away from her touch.
Then there were noisy interruptions as the door swung open to two older guys entering and stepping into the hospital wing. Surprisingly, they made their way towards them, it was not her they were seeking but Regina. Their faces were identical, surely twins. They were her older brothers, it almost reminded her of her own late brother Raphael, their tenderness as they spoke to their little sister as Aurelia watched their sweet interactions.
Then one of the twins turned to her, he extended his hand in greeting as he introduced himself. The Gryffindor couldn't help but notice that the greens of his soft eyes were stunningly gorgeous. Aurelia shook Harold's hand with another one of her alluring smiles on her face, yet a little taken aback that he knew her name. For some reason, it was flustering. "Ah, Regina must have told you about me." She glanced back at the girl on the cot. How much had she told her brothers about her roommate who spent most of her time in the form of an owl than human?
"Thank you, always great to have a teammate's back. Regina took the brunt of the damage delivered by those Huffles. But I see she already has a small fanbase. Quite despise when fire comes into play, but its all part of the sport." Aurelia said, shaking her head, making small talk with the younger twin, Harold.
