Faerietale Endings - Grounds

For those who followed the trail of intricately carved animal sculptures, a path lit by hovering luminous orbs, would be lead from the bustling courtyard and onto the slightly muddy Autumn grounds. At a distance away, one could hear the sounds, a variety of squaks, squeaks and even neighs. It was only about a short two minutes walk before the destination came into full view and the source of the noisy commotion revealed. Whoever suggested the idea of a petting zoo and thestral carriage was just brilliant.

PETTING ZOO
Across the field, lit by the charming twinkle of fairy lights and the warm glow of tall gaslamps, were magical creatures, some in cages and pens while others in open stables. Standing by a table with a few cages on display was the care of magical creatures professor Tala Takagi and a young, petite Ravenclaw brunette, Harper Jordan. "Don't forget your gloves," Harper chimed, those who asked would be directed to a bucketful by the wooden table. As taught in class, safety was always prioritised but any who stubbornly chose to ignore those measures may find their fingers in the colour crimson, burnt or lack of.

The first pen that was nearest to the entrance contained the most creatures out of the others. Three kneazles, two crups and two jarveys. Just cats, dogs and ferrets with a magical twist. A sign nailed to the pen would do to introduce those animals. Holliwisen: Tortieshell Kneazle. Aloof but secretly likes pats and scratches, very vocal. Bonnie: Grey tabby Kneazle. Playful but can be aggressive, be careful. Rumpkins: Ginger Kneazle. Cuddly and affectionate gets jealous easily. Daikon and Brage: White and Spotted Crup, friendly, like scratches and pats. Do not feed. Jarveys: Please take their comments with a pinch of salt. May be aggressive, please be gentle.

In another pen, there were hares with antlers hopping about. Also littered in the pen were various shiny coins, knuts and bolts, which of course, were to entertain the infamous nifflers also residing with the jackalopes. The sign on the pen would warn those who entered to keep their 'shinies' away and out of sight. Nifflers had the reputation to get their determined paws on anything that caught their eye.

On the table next to where Professor Tala stood supervising were three large open-top wooden cages. In one of the cages, were a poffle of fluff balls. Those cute little creatures were incredibly similar to pygmy puffs, but they were, smaller, rounder and less vibrantly coloured. Anyone could pick a puffskein from their cage gently for a cuddle. But one should be wary that puffskeins, like pygmypuffs, were to harrass nostrils for a questionable delightful snack. In the cage next to the puffskeins, was a couple of scarlet red salamanders. While not in flames due to being nullified by peppers, they were just as hot to the touch. In the last cage were two giant lobster-shrimp-like creature, with large claws in a grey-blue colour. Those who chose to bypass theglove requirement would find themselves quite unlucky.
There is a unicorn put in a large pen near the other animals that inhabited the areas. This majestic creature was kept locked up due to its hesitant nature towards boys. It stared at all witches or wizards who walked past with a threatening yet playful glare. One must be cautious when approaching this beautiful creature.

There was a small area a distant away from the older unicorn that housed a single unicorn, this one was a bit different from what someone would think of as a unicorn. It is smaller and has gold hooves, it's horn hasn't grown in yet. Unlike adults, it seems okay with anyone who approaches due to it being more trusting.

THE PUMPKIN CARRIAGE RIDE
With the fruit of the season in abundance, there was plenty to spare to create a unique event for this year's October ball. Massive orange pumpkins stood in a queue near the area which a diversity of creatures that made up a seperate event of the petting zoo gathered. Someone had taken the effort to engorge a dozen pumpkins, carve and stuck wheels onto them. For some, the funky carriage may seem to be moving on its own, by magic, but others - those who had experiened the grimm- would see a dark ghastly skeleton of a horse with giant bat wings.

It was a minimum of 3 on a carriage and a maxiumum of 6. While waiting to board, anyone could help themselves to a snack table for them to take along to the ride. There was everything pumpkin, from a warm mug of pumpkin spice latte, a slice of pumpkin pie and pumpkin cookies. Now, the inside a compartment stank strongly of - well, pumpkin. It wasn't too unpleasant but one would likely grow sick of pumpkin at the end of the ride. The interior was nothing very fancy, just short cushion seats. Those with large gowns might face a challenge to accommodate themselves comfortably in such a close, cramped space of a pumpkin.
Ooc: If you already have a group of 3-6, you can rp boarding a pumpkin and the ride starting. If you don't please state in your post that you're waiting and you will be assigned a carriage soon.
OOC Guidelines:

Welcome to the 2022 Fall Ball Faerietale Endings Grounds area pumpkin carriage ride and petting zoo. Just a few reminders and guidelines so that we can all enjoy our happy and/or tragic endings!
  1. Make sure your ducks are in a row when trying to perform an action! State when you are using an action and or an ability (so I can keep track of limits on the use of ability), name allies/enemies if required by an ability, state in your roleplay if you bring certain potions and items (organizing these as well as statistics and abilities in a reducio at the bottom of your post is helpful so that I can note them for ease of moderation, but you are not obligated to do so).
    - To perform statistically related actions, you have to be registered in the Index and must have a Trunk with statistics and abilities.

    - To cast spells, you have to have them in your trunk and must use the EXACT INCANTATION; failure to do so will result in an automatic critical failure on casting and a subsequent backfire!

    - To use a potion, you must have the potion on your person (stated in IC roleplay) and have the potion on hand in your trunk (OOC). When using a potion as an action, you must OOC "donate" me the potion with the message of "[Thread name], [Page number], [Post number on that page]" (so I can affirm in moderation that you have used it), and I in turn forward it to the Game Master account (as a papertrail).

    - Any attempt made to perform more than one Action in a round (cast a spell, perform a statistical check, make an attack, imbibe a potion, etc.) results in an automatic failure of the second action and may be accompanied by a backfire/adverse effect.
  2. In your post, please state if action is performed (so I can moderate you properly). If you change locations, state that you do so in your post as your action. Yas, it does take an action to leave the ball and move to another location.
  3. IC, this area is being watched over by @Harper Jordan
  4. Follow rules of the site; no godmodding, other players, etc. Keep it PG-13. Be polite. Etc.

    Do try to enjoy yourselves...

Sirin had recently heard of a petting zoo. In Hogwarts, of all places! Even then, she still had to go---despite having to go alone. Even if she couldn't find a date, it would still be an enjoyable experience to spend with the critters she would soon meet. As she neared the petting zoo site, her heart bubbled with joy. She could see so many things---and a couple of rides too. Everything reminded her of the fond memories she shared with her father--back in the muggle world. Every weekend Sirin's loving father would take the young girl to the nearest amusement park--where they would spend the afternoon giggling and enjoying snacks. Sirin crossed her fingers, hoping that there would be candied apples. As she approached the petting zoo setup, she noticed the creatures to be rather strange. Wizard world creatures, perhaps. What else had she expected anyways? Goats? Sirin decided it may be a good idea to simply enjoy a ride first. The pumpkin ride looked fun--it certainly was worth the shot. When Sirin was young, rides were always enjoyable experiences, regardless. Everything felt awkward without a partner, but surely, it couldn't be too bad. Timidly, she requested to board the ride.

I eventually got bored and followed the trail of animal sculptures and glowing orbs. I loved animals, and I was interested in seeing where this trail lead. I heard animal sounds in the distance. I got excited. And- I could hear horses, my favorite animal! It was only a short walk before I came across a brilliant, magical menagerie of all sorts of animals. There were two women by a table. One of them said, "Don't forget your gloves!" I grabbed a pair from a bucket. This was brilliant. The first cage contained fluffy little balls. They reminded of the pygmy puffs that I had seen in the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley. They were more magical creatures that I had never heard of before. I looked at them with awe and wonder. I petted a "Ginger Kneazle". It seemed to like it. In another pen, there were- are those jackalopes? Seriously? Shiny things littered the pen. There was a sign that said to keep "shinies" away and out of sight. Okay! I betted that the little creatures inside liked shiny things. I took off my necklace and placed it in my bag. I entered the pen. I got a close-up look at the animals, and the shinies-loving creatures were looking for more shiny things, including shiny things on me. Good thing I kept that necklace out of sight! I exited the pen and put it back on. That's when I saw a unicorn! "Oh my GOSH!!!"I couldn't but yell out. I approached the unicorn carefully. It had a large horn and was locked up in a cage. It seemed to give me a threatening glare. "No cause for alarm, I'm completely friendly..." I said. But then I saw somebody waiting by a bunch of oversized pumpkin carriages. I waved and walked over to them. "Hi!" I said. "Are you enjoying the ball so far?"

Howard sulked as he lazily made his way down the path, but couldn't help but to be distracted by the animal carvings lit by the glowing orbs. The detail and craftsmanship was something that caught his eye and left him impressed. A slight crack in his darkened mood began to form as the sounds of animals soon caught his ear. Soon enough he would come upon the pens that temporarily housed the various creatures. Howard offered a respectful nod towards Professor Takagi and the younger student assisting as he accepted the protective gloves and put them on.

A smile finally found his lips for the first time this night as Howard entered the first pen. The Kneazels, Crups and Jarveys would bounce around and sniff at his ankles in curiosity. He didn't even mind that they got mud on his shoes and pant legs as they did wonders to bolster his mood. If anyone paid any attention they would witness Howard's aptitude for the subject as he was cautious with some of them and offered open affection to the others.

As much fun as these little creatures provided, Howard could not resist a visit with the Jackalopes and Nifflers. He could easily have wasted away the night tossing coins around and watching the little hoarders scurry, but nothing could compare to the showstopper of the evening. A short ways off there was a Unicorn to see. Not only were they rare to put eyes on, but his gender kept them even further away. Howard would keep his distance as he looked upon the beautiful creature. They were so majestic, so wonderful to behold that it almost felt a sin to tarnish them with his gaze. The feeling intensified as he soon saw that there was a young Unicorn in their company too. This one he would step closer to as they seemed more trusting than their adult counterpart. As much joy as the pair of them provided it did leave Howard with a twinge of sadness.

How he longed to be pure like the young Unicorn. Innocent and without the dark tendencies of his race. While still a young man, Howard wished he could go back in his youth to rewrite his history. To hold dear to the other "unicorns" in his life that he had driven away. What he wouldn't give for just one more blissful moment with last that he had. A blood stained tear would drip down his cheek as he got lost in the cherished vision.

There was a mixture of excitement and nervousness when Sherlock realised that he had entered an area where guests were given a chance to take a good, close look at animals, perhaps even touching them. As far as his lovely brown eyes were able to see, all of the animals at this area tonight were magical creatures. It was all right, although he could not help but wish that they had both Muggle animals and fantastic beasts.

There was a table with two individuals around it, one of them an adult. The other one, a tween with brown hair, was reminding people about gloves. It was not really hard for Sherlock to surmise that the raven-haired adult was a teacher, presumably a teacher at Hogwarts, whereas the brunette preteen was either a ball committee member or a volunteer assistant for the professor (or both). It looked like that if he had any question to ask in regards of the activity in this area, these two were the best informants one could get.

Approaching, the young Belizean asked them politely, "Excuse me, is it correct that we're allowed to interact directly with the animals here? Are there any animals that are off-limits? I'm sorry, may I know when approaching which animals would we need the gloves?"

As Sirin waited quietly for her turn to board the ride, she heard another girl call out to her. Sirin turned around to face the girl: she was a young hufflepuff, seemingly also waiting to board to ride and was waiting for friends. The young girl asked politely if Sirin was enjoying the ball. Sirin hadn't expected to be approached by anyone and was caught off guard.
"Yea, the ball's been really nice so far. I just wasn't able to find anyone to go with, so it is a bit lonely. Even so, the season is beautiful and the food is as great as ever! Are you gonna try the pumpkin carriage?"
As Sirin spoke, the spicy pumpkin aroma began to strengthen. She could smell the pumpkin spice latte--and even the carriage smelled like pumpkins. How soothing--more effective than essential oils. Sirin snagged a latte and grabbed an extra one for the other girl.
"Want a latte? It's a pumpkin spice latte--they're always the best. I remember when mom and I used to get those all the time..."
As Sirin was caught in her reminiscing, she took a sip of her own latte and waited for the other girl to accept hers. Perhaps--or at least, Sirin hoped---that she could tag along with this girl and whoever the other girl was going with, and have a good time at the ball.

Harper smiled to each witch or wizard that she handed gloves to, handing them out carefully, and heavily advising that each student wear the gloves when handling creatures. It is the best way that they can avoid injury. It's not that any of them were extremely dangerous, but some got a bit carried away with biting, so the gloves were just a precautionary measure. That way, if animals got a bit too friendly with guests, it wouldn't cause any significant injuries.

One particular boy who she didn't recognize asked her about the gloves and when they were needed, she presumed that he was from a different school, but she happily answered his question. "Yes, you may interact with the animals. Although, I would be careful because some especially the younger ones, might get overly excited. That is why we are providing gloves just in case. I think that it would be best to wear gloves when interacting with any of the animals just in case." Harper began to say to the young boy who was asking the question to her and Professor Takagi. After a moment she began speaking again. "One thing to note is the adult unicorn is a bit hesitant towards males, like the nature of all adult unicorns. But other than that, and wearing your gloves at all times I hope you have fun!" Harper finished with her warnings and then told the young boy that she hoped he had fun. Which, was true of course. She hoped all the students, Hogwarts students, or students from other schools had fun at the ball because she knew she sure had fun planning it.

With her massive wings, it didn't take long for her to reach the petting zoo. From above, she could see the magical creatures - and it wouldn't be wrong to consider herself one as an animagus. But she only ventured here, leaving her supervision duties in the main ball in the courtyard for one reason, she intended to return as soon as she was done. She had something to tell the dhampir whom she followed, it had been months since they spoke. Regardless, the mere sight of the dhampir made her uncomfortable. But the sooner she got it done and over with, the better.

The Eurasian Eagle owl, would land perched on the wooden fence of the unicorn yearling pen, where Howard stood observing. She hadn't quite expected crimson to be trailing down his face. In a second, she shifted back into her human form in an impressive display. From one elegance to another. "Howard," she greeted still maintaining her apprehensive distance. His presence, their bond and their history always made her uneasy around him.

"It's a beautiful creature. So pure - innocent." Aurelia would approach the unicorn, extending her hand respectfully in a question if she could approach. The young unicorn, merely sniffed gently, before turning and walking away, not quite interested. "How have you been?" A question quite unexpected from Aurelia.

Shy little Andy entered the petting zoo on the grounds to interact with the animals and try to pick up the courage to interact with some new people there. He is not a big fan of animals but the idea of petting the animals during the ball was something he would never expect, and it just sounded so interesting to him! He put the gloves on knowing some animals may be dangerous and he did not want to hurt himself. The activity was for fun, not for hurting himself!

Luckily, there were not many people in the petting zoo when he arrived, which did not seem overwhelming to him. Suddenly, Andy saw a boy he had never seen before, probably from another school, asking questions about the animals and wearing gloves. The boy seemed interesting to interact with, and the shy Thunderbird decided to pick up the courage to try to start a chat with him, "Hi, I`m Andy. A second-year student from Thunderbird, Ilvermorny. What`s your name?" Andy`s face blushed again as he tried to look into the unfamiliar boy`s eyes. "Is he gonna reply to me? Or he would simply ignore me?" Andy thought while trying to interact with some animals in the petting zoo and waiting to see the boy`s reaction.

Carefully making her way to the grounds, Bloom began to see all the animals that were available for them to pet. There were unicorns, kneazles, jarveys and more. It was like a real petting zoo. Bloom remembered her parents taking them to a petting zoo during the fall. It was a pumpkin patch and there were ducks, bunnies and pigs that they could pet. It was one of the few times they were spoiled a year to do something so fun as a family.

Bloom walked towards the petting zoo, unbeknownst of who was around. Her mind was tunnel visioned in general. It typically happens to those who are going through a lot of mental issues and at the moment, she was feeling both lonely and depressed after what had happened a few nights prior. Bloom was nowhere near the unicorns where she would have seen Howard. She was by the fluff balls that looked so adorable and when she carefully handled one, they were soft at the touch. Even better, they were cuddlers. Bloom felt a glimpse of happiness just cuddling with the creature.

She placed it back down and felt like maybe she wanted to see the unicorn. It wasn't every day that a unicorn was available to pet. There was a warning about the older unicorn versus the younger one. Bloom started to make her way to the unicorn when she stopped in her tracks. In front of her was not only Howard but Aurelia with him. "Shit," she whispered to herself. Her blood was boiling just watching Aurelia near Howard. But her heart was hurting seeing Howard himself. She was in an awkward strain of emotion that she had no idea what to do. From the looks of it, Aurelia looked comfortable around Howard. Was Bloom jealous? But she had no reason to be. It wasn't like Howard was with Bloom anymore. Right?

If Howard noticed Bloom, Bloom would give him eye contact lasting longer than it should. She would then break her eye contact with him by turning her head to the side, looking down, and turning around, trying to smoothly move away from the scene. She would try to head towards the furthest animal.

Bloom would gently grabbed the fluff ball that she had cuddled with earlier. Her heart would be racing. She felt as though it was going to break through her chest and dress. Whatever was next, would be his move, if he noticed her and decided to act upon it.

If not, Bloom would look at him and turn around to walk away, going back to the fluff ball that she had cuddled with earlier, wondering if he did notice her.
