The Courtyard had, from the start, seemed the only logical place to hold a ball such as the likes of the theme Faerietale Endings. What sort of Faerietale did not in some way incorporate the beauty of a twilit sky, or the delicate sparklings of the silvery stars overhead? The usually drab grey stones of the courtyard appeared almost silver in the almost entirely full light of the waxing moon, just one night away, and every tree and shadow appeared to have a slightly more angular and harsh edge because of Luna's soft yet intense glow. Soft birdsong, difficult to tell if magically or mundanely made, cooed in the black and whispering branches, and a soft, brisk, and rather chilly wind (11 degree Celsius/52 degree Fahrenheit) rattled branches and encouraged the older among the trees to groan in their own eerie melodies. A better evening could not have been asked for save the Highland cold, and tonight in particular seemed to gleam with a mysterious magic of a non-wizard origin.

Sprinkled about the environment lay trademarks of several better-known Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm Brothers fables. Within the courtyard fountain was a small recreation of Thumbelina being introduced to a repulsive toad groom. Opposing it on the far side a single large frog with a golden crown sitting on a lilypad sat with one of his "arms" extended as if to reach out and take a lady (or lad) by the hand for a tender kiss. Both of these floated freely in the water, bobbing here and there and guided by the current of the fountain water. Tangled upon the walls of the courtyard were thousands of blooming flowers mixed with sharp, prickly black thorns. Any self-respecting wandmaker would recognize a collection of well-trimmed blackthorn bushes off in one corner, though these appeared to have been grafted with a rose bush, for there was one red-blooming bush and one white-blooming bush. Not too far away from these was a pile of shoes, mostly leather and rough in make, but both a single "glass" shoe for a young woman barely glittered underneath its mundane fellows and a pair of bright red shoes stuck out like sore thumbs. High up in the tallest tree sat a stuffed plush golden goose in a nest that was angled so that all could see large golden eggs, the prize of most any kleptomaniac to be sure. Underneath a willow tree sat poised a collection of plaster swans, one of which was a small, downy, ugly grey fellow being embraced by one of the larger, more magnificent ones while a family of ducks watched on. Similarly, faux ravens looked down at both the scene below them and outwards towards the main congregation of the celebration with quiet eyes. If a student brushed close enough, it would magically animate, extend charcoal black wings, and have its eyes glow red with an accompanying "Caw, caw, caw!" emanating from it.

Fairy lights (glowing by the bioluminescent light of glow bugs) would offer an almost unnoticeable glow when compared to the light of the moon, their only purpose being to highlight the already bright and colorful bursts of spectrum that were found in the flowers and the leaves of the fall-blossoming plants. Tiny, real fairies, likely drawn in by the color and the ethereal nature of the environment fluttered about here and there, playing with the plush animals or perusing the nearby feast that was laid out. They giggled in a lightly buzzing tone, gesticulating and teasing with one another by pointing out the students that they thought to be less-dressed or less than impressive in their attire than themselves. Other fairies were more content to sit by the water fountain and meddle with the frogs thereon, whereas others flittered in the trees and danced in a way that caused loosened flower petals to be whisked into the air and produce a waltz of their own design.

The warm orange glow of the setting sun cast upon the vicinity had set the courtyard in a picturesque far back in time. As if reliving an old painting from the renaissance or within one's imagination of fairytales brought to life. With the sun disappearing into the horizon and giving way to the shadows of Autumn's early evening, the bronze candelabras on tables and strings of starry fairy lights that hung across the walls of the courtyard would shed light throughout the event, albeit with an almost eerily flickers.

The tables around were dressed in dark linens, with a neat display of silver goblets and silverware set upon. At the further end of the courtyard stood a rather coniferous juniper tree with claw-like branches that cast its shadow on a long rustic mahogany table displaying a delicious array that was to be feasted on. A large brass pot of simmering savoury stew, an impressive platter of pudding and pies of the sort, and a deep bowl of a rich burgundy red beverage to serve with the many intricate goblets that cluttered the table. By the table was a wooden bucket swirling with apples bobbing on the surface, green, pink, red and yellow. Any hungry souls could help themselves to a share of food while it lasted.
By Aurelia Notresvace
Light, mystical music drifted through the air; not sourced by a band or instrument easily visible, but as if by ghostly, phantasmal, omnipresent nature, encouraging couples to dance freely in the central, clearing of the courtyard set aside for a dance floor. Already there were a few of the native ghosts of Hogwarts finding themselves at home in the company of the antique surroundings, as they whispered to one another about their lives and their deaths alike, with especial couples somberly drifting to and fro in a silent waltz among the living and evoking an accidental chill if one came too close to one with still-living flesh.

An eye drifting to the right of the celebration would observe a collection of ill-sprinkled Bernie Bott's Every Flavored Beans, which would lead to but one of the activities of the night...

On the left, a collection of pumpkins of all sizes, faux rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other small woodland creatures would guide anybody who was curious enough to investigate their trail to sights and experiences of the most magical degree...

The night was young, the moon was nearly full, the food and beverages were set. Mystery and trickery hung thick in the skies as an air of excitement, grandeur, and the remotest tingling of trepidation laid eerily present in the vicinity. The 2022 Fall Ball was now begun.

OOC Guidelines:
Reducio
Welcome to the 2022 Fall Ball Faerietale Endings. I hope you enjoy your stay. Just a few reminders and guidelines so that we can all enjoy our happy and/or tragic endings!
  1. Make sure your ducks are in a row when trying to perform an action! State when you are using an action and or an ability (so I can keep track of limits on the use of ability), name allies/enemies if required by an ability, state in your roleplay if you bring certain potions and items (organizing these as well as statistics and abilities in a reducio at the bottom of your post is helpful so that I can note them for ease of moderation, but you are not obligated to do so).
    - To perform statistically related actions, you have to be registered in the Index and must have a Trunk with statistics and abilities. Visit THIS link to confirm that you are registered with a trunk post locked in by the "Game Master" account.

    - To cast spells, you have to have them in your trunk and must use the EXACT INCANTATION; failure to do so will result in an automatic critical failure on casting and a subsequent backfire!

    - To use a potion, you must have the potion on your person (stated in IC roleplay) and have the potion on hand in your trunk (OOC). When using a potion as an action, you must OOC "donate" me the potion with the message of "[Thread name], [Page number], [Post number on that page]" (so I can affirm in moderation that you have used it), and I in turn forward it to the Game Master account (as a papertrail).

    - Any attempt made to perform more than one Action in a round (cast a spell, perform a statistical check, make an attack, imbibe a potion, etc.) results in an automatic failure of the second action and may be accompanied by a backfire/adverse effect.
  2. In your post, state a performed action (so I can moderate you properly). If you change locations, state that you do so in your post as your action. Yes, it does take an action to leave the ball and move to another location.
  3. IC, this area is being watched over by @Piérre Marchonné & @Aurelia Notresvace.
  4. Follow rules of the site; no godmodding me, other players, etc. Keep it PG-13. Be polite. Etc.
  5. If you have any questions on actions or disputes on moderation rolls (I am human), feel free to contact me via owl or Discord (check Piérre's encyclopedia for the username). The first moderation rolls will occur on October 22.

    Do try to enjoy yourselves...
Once again, for those not indexed yet (meaning you have no trunk post that is by the "Game Master" Account) go to THIS link for information on how to be registered.

As I walked into the moonlit courtyard with its bright sparkling lights, I looked around in awe at the decorations and plants. This definitely looked like a faerietale to me! I was wearing a nice, black silk dress and black flats that just happened to find their way into my trunk. I sighed as I listened to the beautiful, enchanting music that seemed to fill me up. I hoped that at the very least, I looked decent. I wasn't wearing much makeup, but I was still wearing makeup, something that would have surprised a lot of people who knew me well. I finger a strand of my hair, which was in a fancy twist piled on top of my head. I felt weird, and I looked around anxiously at the people there. There were only two. A girl in a purple dress who I had remembered from the Lavatory, and a boy who was holding a bouquet of roses. Okay...no one else? Fine. I had done last-minute preparations and already had a partner, a girl named Jordyn Fletcher. I really didn't want to go alone, so having a partner was good. All I had to do was wait. It wasn't boring though, the music was very nice, and- wait - were those actual faeries?! Okay. This ball is definitely going to be filled with surprises tonight!

Sirin stared at the magnificent courtyard in awe. Today marked the beginning of the fall ball at Hogwarts. If Sirin were to be completely honest, it was the day she was most excited about but also the day she feared most. Hopefully, her first impression would be a good one and she could finally relieve herself of self-doubt. The courtyard was filled with wonders, and tiny creatures called "faeries." A sight to behold---Sirin had never laid eyes on one before and gaped at them for a good five minutes. Then her mind began to wander. Where was the food? It sounded like a rather selfish question, but Sirin was led to believe that there would be food galore during the ball. Besides, she was getting hungry. Sirin paced around the courtyard a couple of times, watching as people came in like water filling a bucket. She took a seat on a ledge and sat in quiet contemplation, admiring and comprehending her surroundings. Perhaps this ball would be the time of her life----or it could be the worst. Only fate would decide. Sirin glanced at the entrance, wondering when her friend Nicole would show up.

The Fall Ball 2022
204/200

The day had come. The fall ball was there!! Earlier Bailey had done her simple makeup and hair with a few other girls in the bathroom.
After getting her dress zipped up, her shoes on and jewelry on, Bailey took a deep breath and smiled, albeit sightly nervously. Big group events like this, since all of the other magical schools were there, were nerve racking.
Walking down to where she and Marcel had agreed to meet, Bailey spotted a few other people at the ball, like her friends @Clair Fernandez, @Lily Blaze, and a few other people including @ Aurora Griffith, @ Thymus Quercus Timerey and @ Nicole Richards.
Looking around for Marcel, Bailey didn’t see him. Entering the hall, she heard some light mystical music that fit the theme to a T. The planning committee had really outdone themselves, and Bailey made a mental note to tell the people on the committee that if she saw them.
Looking around bailey searched for a familiar face that wasn’t involved in a conversation. Bailey didn’t see @Kim Sato but she was sure he’d be there, since she was almost positive he and @Sophia Nelson , a fellow Ravenclaw and friend of hers, were coming together.

========================

The Courtyard was supposed to
be an especially magical place this
fall evening. The long awaited ball
had at long last come. Colin was
still sad that he'd not be able to go
with Clair, but she'd explained to
him what happened and, well,
there was really nothing that he
could do about it now. He really
did hope she'd have a good time
with whoever was fortunate
enough to ask her before did!
Sadly, he was never able to meet
up with his cousin Alena. He'd
thought to take her as a friend,
but that plan fell through. She
was so difficult to find! Colin
reckoned she probably snagged
some fifth year and would have
a grand time without him.

As he entered the Courtyard, with
Uhuu on his right shoulder, he
reckoned too that it was really
just as well that he was here
alone. It was that time of the
month again, after all. The
wolfsbane might keep him sane

during the Change, but it sure didn't touch his raging headache the size of Tom Riddle's ego or the other cramps and pains that came and went as the waxing Moon exerted her influence on his body.

Grrr.

He'd chosen a neat white shirt, an all black kilt and a black cape with green lining. He tied up some of his hair at the back and wore a small fascinator of raven feathers, asphodel and poppies. The rest of his hair flowed freely down his back. The cloak was open on the left and its only decoration was the silver Slytherin brooch his Aunt Indigo had given him. He had heard that Hogwarts balls could be dangerous affairs, so he entered with his wand in hand, but tucked it away when all seemed to be tranquil.

No doubt the calm before the storm.

Other than the brooch, Colin wore no other decoration and he wore no shoes. He decided that the best course of action for now would be to find a nice quiet corner and watch the proceedings in as much peace as the place would afford.

All dressed up, but lonely. That was exactly how Sherlock Dols felt tonight. A couple of weeks ago, his parents had looked excited upon hearing about the interscholastic dance hosted at Hogwarts and its theme, and soon thereafter, Sherlock had found himself at a dressmaker's with his father. Tonight, the Belizean boy was dressed like the infamous Hans Christian Andersen, a brainchild of the tailor. But in contrast with their admiration they earned while inspecting their son's costume, Marcella and Jorge were less than pleased to learn that Sherlock had no date for tonight.

The second year felt so bad for letting them down, and to make it up, had promised his parents that he would have fun at the event with a number of friends. However, currently no one was in sight (and really, it was his own fault not to ask his friends if they could meet and go together to the ball). Trying to calm himself down, Sherlock told himself that it was not unusual for teens and tweens to arrive rather late for any event.

Perhaps they're still getting ready, he whispered inwardly, in Latin American Spanish. Besides, while waiting for them, I can try to strike a conversation with someone who isn't currently occupied.

Sherlock's lovely brown eyes scanned around, attempting to find this kind of person. Instead, however, they caught sight of decorative menagerie. Curiously, the animal lover followed the trail... perhaps he would meet someone who loved animals as much as he did at the end of the trail...

Keith had woken up this morning dreading going to the ball that night. It wasn't that he hated being around people, he loved talking to people! He dreaded it because the only balls he ever attended were ones his parents forced him to go to. He hated them, it was a bunch of old people, and all of them were mean, or commented every time on "how much he'd grown" since they had last seen him. He thought it was so annoying.

Keith forced himself to get up, there was a lot of things to do before going, such as making sure his shoes were clean, though he dreaded wearing them. Anyone who knew Keith knew he hated to wear shoes. He also had to make sure his outfit was ready, which the house elves had made sure it was taken care of. The day before he had left a note politely asking them to iron his outfit. He got ready for the day, brushing his teeth, getting his hoodie on, and then went on a run.

Keith got back to his dorm, and went to shower. He wanted to smell nice for the ball, in case someone asked him to dance. He got his outfit on.

Keith brushed out his hair before putting the crown on. "Thank you Aunties for this wonderful outfit, and crown." he thought. He walked into the bathroom, looking in the mirror, "This should be different from the other balls, right? Maybe you will see people you know?" Keith sighed, and walked out of the bathroom, heading out the common room.

Keith entered the courtyard, and boy was it something. "Woah!" was all Keith could manage to get out. It was the most wonderful thing he had seen in a really long time. There were lights, and the decorations, he loved how everything looked. "This is going to be fun, and Oh! There's Bailey! Better go say hello."

Keith was headed towards Bailey when he spotted a familiar looking white haired boy. "Colin? But isn't it?" Keith stopped, and started to head in the direction he saw Colin, "It's that time, right? Yeah, I marked it. Should I talk to him?" Keith thought to himself. He was a little scared, but he was just going to say hi, right? "Of course you should, he is your friend."

Keith stayed a few feet away, seeing as Colin was in a corner, Keith didn't know how to approach him. So, Keith did what Keith does best, acting before thinking.

"Colin? It's Keith." He said, walking a little closer to the boy.

Ever since the morning, Hogwarts was busy, the Fall Ball was starting and it was like every student was preparing for this moment. For Jannette, she had to prepare. She had to make sure her dress arrived on time, she also had to make sure she needed all the supplies she needed for the big day; from lipsticks, and earrings, to even nail polish. So when the day came, Jannette felt like she was ready to take on anything, but that was until she realized how much of a warzone. Jannette was frantically running around, her once-organized outfit preparation became an absolute mess. Still, she had plenty of time, so she didn't have to panic, with her makeup bag in hand she speed-walks to the lavatory, a smile on her face, but that all changed when she saw the line...

This is gonna be a while, isn't it...

The evening came, and Jannette headed over to the courtyard. While Thymus and Jannette were talking about their outfits, she knew he was more likely gonna wear something black. It was a gamble, but it was a hunch by the character's name, Ichabod Crane, it just sounded goth. So, Jannette had to match! She wore an elegant long sleeve gothic dress and a matching black tiara that screamed Maleficent! Due to the slightly chilly weather, she wore snake-like tights and mary jane shoes. Her accessories are a black and emerald green corsage on her left wrist, and beautiful black snake ear cuffs that slithered around her ear. Her makeup was super light, as she only put on black lipstick, and her nails matched. She would look unrecognizable at this point, besides the rather obvious sassy Scottish accent she has. Finally, her mother knew of the struggles of not having any pockets on a dress so she made sure Jannette had 3 pockets! One on each side of her hips, and a black tie-on pocket just for her wand.

As she entered the courtyard, the atmosphere was an equilibrium of beauty and spookiness. The sounds of a raven cawing, mix with the airy feeling of the wind shaking the branches. There were also different monuments of the Grimm Fairytales. Fairylights sprinkled throughout the sky giving magnificent lighting that the brunette continued to stare at for hours, her eyes would then wander to the table the clot-- wait... is that Quercus!? I mean it was quite obviously him, there was no one (except for Nico) that wasn't paler than a ghost and wore all black. Jannette wanted to walk up and surprise him with how she looked, but she didn't want to just say hi to him. No, that wasn't the Applesnake way -- she needed to scare him!

So, the plan was set in motion.

Being in the house of the cunning, Jannette would crouch down awkwardly. She totally didn't look like a complete weirdo from an outsider's perspective, no, she is totally being stealthy! As she'd slowly but surely make it all the way around to the other side of the courtyard, Jannette would go under the table, the dark linen camouflaging her. Crawling slowly, she would slither closely behind Quercus, only seeing a bit of his leg. Then from out of nowhere, Jannette would attempt to grab his ankles, from under the table, "RRAAAWWWRRR, OIMMM DAH ANKLE MONS'AHHH!!!"1 She shrieks.

This was Marius' second time attending a dance. Just like the first time, he was excited and looked forward to meeting new friends. However, this time he was also nervous, since for the first time, he went with a date.

A date!

Of course, as a native English, the Hufflepuff was familiar with the tradition of attending a dance with a date. Still, he could not care less about it - because for Marius, it had a romantic connotation, and yet at the moment he was not interested in anyone. But then again, many prom dates were nothing but a one-time, not-serious-at-all thing. It was just that. For fun. Or for the sake of tradition. Or both.

When Ash Hazelwood had asked him out, the Chinese-English preteen had said yes because he did not mind going to the ball with her. He liked the younger student just fine, considered her a positive acquaintance or perhaps even a friend, so he did not want to let her down. But at the same time, Marius was neither a super traditional or a romantic tween; he was not sure what to expect from going to a school dance with a date.

I suppose, and I hope, it won't be anything more than a dance partner, he thought. I definitely won't be comfortable having a candlelit dinner with Ash, let alone kissing her hand or hugging her or lending her my jacket. No, I won't do any of these. I don't even bring any gift whatsoever, unlike what people in novels do.

His nervousness somehow escalated into some kind of panic when he saw that she had been waiting for him. In his eyes, the Gryffindor looked so calm and collected, like nothing about this dance mattered. Not even having a date. This was real. This was really happening.

"Hello," he finally said, both tense and friendly at the same time. "Sorry to have kept you waiting, Ash. Have you been here long?"

When Rani reached the courtyard, she excitedly looked around, admiring the beautiful decorations. The past few days, the girl had barely been able to think about anything else, and last night she hadn't been able to fall asleep at all. That's how nervous she was. But now the time had finally come.

Since the morning Rani had been busy preparing herself for the ball. She was wearing an elegant white dress with matching shoes and cute heart-shaped jewellery. Her hair was tied in a simple ponytail but decorated with a fancy white bow and hair clips. For make-up, she was only wearing a light grey, glittery eyeshadow. Rani adored her outfit.

Rani walked over to the side, she didn't want to be the centre of attention. She looked around, searching for her ball partner, but Beatrice was nowhere to be found. I'm a little early, she thought. But that didn't matter: Now she had the time to take a good look at this whole place. It truly was beautifully decorated.

Suddenly she saw someone with long dark hair and a beautiful white dress approaching her. Rani squinted her eyes. Was that Beatrice? She straightened her back and waved one hand, clutching her other hand tightly around an envelope. Inside the envelope was something she had made this morning, and she was planning to give it to Beatrice once she arrived.
