It was a Monday evening during curfew, and though Regina had attended detention not even three days ago, that didn't stop the Gryffindor rebel from once again engaging in mischief as she ventured down the lowest floors of the castle to steal some bites of food from the kitchen and bring them back with her to the Lion's Den. It was quite a feat to sneak past the diligent working house elves, and Regina was pretty sure a few of them spot her just as she rushed out the kitchen doors with an armful of various food. However, she didn't believe any of them saw her face or knew exactly who she was, so the girl continued running up the stairs in a hurry.

Once the coast was clear, Regina's pace decreased to nonchalant saunters as she stalked through the dim-lit corridors, one hand picking up a Scottish black bun from the bundle of treats and held it to her lips as she took a bite. It didn't look as though she was in a rush to get back to the Gryffindor Tower at all, despite the possibility of being caught by patrolling Prefects at this hour. Orchid eyes scanned the hall in a lazy motion, and she mused the thought of what her Father would say if he saw her now. A man obsessed with perfection and demanding the same of his children would no doubt be furious until his skin turned red underneath his greying facial hair. His youngest Pureblood Heir, stealing food after curfew dressed in such common clothing which could even be passed for a Muggle? Regina allowed herself for a moment to imagine the disbelief and humiliation on his face with a smirk. One could only dream.

The raven-haired witch was, admittedly, so caught up in her musings that she hadn't quite paid attention when she rounded the corner and ended up colliding with another person. At first, Regina had thought she'd come across a Prefect, but a rapid double-check confirmed it was just another normal student. Regina huffed lightly, raising her eyebrow in a condescending manner.

"What's this? I thought I was the only one who enjoyed nightly after curfew strolls around the castle."

Only Merlin knew how Adelaide had managed to become so enthralled in her work that she had lost complete track of time, had stayed in the library way longer than she had intended, and had thus rendered herself to switching between running through the corridors and tiptoeing through the corridors to get back up to the Ravenclaw common room without being caught by a Prefect. Her heart was pounding in her ears, head swiveling side to side and body going rigid at the slightest sound. Adelaide never got in trouble, she never stepped a single toe out of line, she always followed the rules, and she most certainly did not stay out past curfew. So how did she manage to do just that?

She silently cursed herself, wondering how she had managed to lose track of time so much. Sure, learning was interesting, but she had never been so interested in something before that all concept of time had disintegrated into nothing. She would be seething if she got caught, even though deep down she knew she had no one to blame but herself. Even so, she'd manage to find someone else to blame, somehow. I was helping a lost first year get back to their common room, did you really expect me to just leave them there? Leave them to get into trouble? I couldn't do that! That was a sufficient enough excuse, right? It was still early in the school year that first years were more than likely to get lost in the confusing corridors of the castle.

Too busy thinking of an excuse she could use on a Prefect in the event that she was caught, the blonde failed to notice that she was about to walk straight into someone else. Until the collision happened and terror washed over her in waves, excuses ready to spill out of her mouth before she realized it was just another normal student. Adelaide squinted in the dim light, surprisingly recognizing the person in front of her, "Regina?" She said incredulously, "What in Merlin are you doing out past curfew?" She queried, definitely not expecting this from her cousin. Then she huffed indignantly, offended that Regina thought Adelaide would be one to break the rules (even though she technically is literally breaking the rules), "I do not enjoy them, I merely lost track of time and I am trying to get back to my common room without being caught. I didn't think you'd be someone to be out past curfew, either. You better give me a good enough reason to not owl your father about this."

Adelaide straightened her posture, folding her arms in front of her chest before noticing the pile of food in Regina's arms, "Did you steal food from the kitchens?" She hissed, "That's disgraceful! Are you really that hungry that you couldn't wait until breakfast?" The Ravenclaw didn't bother waiting for a response before she continued with her rant, "You know what, I am definitely telling your father about this. You shouldn't be stealing food from the kitchens! And you shouldn't be out past curfew!"

Even though she knew this was just wasting time, and anymore time spent in the corridors was more time that she risked getting caught, she was still shocked and struggling to comprehend the fact that she had just spotted her cousin, Regina Miller, breaking the rules. From what she could remember about the Millers, they were strict, very strict, and she knew Regina's father definitely would not be very happy to find out his daughter was breaking the rules. So maybe Adelaide felt a little guilty about threatening to tell on her cousin, but Adelaide was wholeheartedly against troublemaking and breaking the rules, so at the same time she didn't feel guilty at all.

If it had been back in first or second year, Regina would have been abhorred at the idea of her father being informed of her misdeeds. But now? She merely raised an eyebrow as she lifted her chin to look down at Adelaide from her nose condescendingly as her dark presence poured out with a sharp purple-eyed glare.

"Go ahead, Tattletale. It would not be anything he does not already know," She challenged.

She was sure Alfred Miller had already got the letter of her first detention of the year with the Gryffindor Head of House. Regina did warn him, after all. She was trying to gain attention, and she was vindictive. Because if being the 'perfect daughter' wasn't enough for her parents' recognition, well...maybe a delinquent daughter ought to do the trick.

The Gryffindor took another bite out of her bun in retaliation to Adelaide's scolding. No, she didn't steal the food because she couldn't wait until the morning. She did it for the sake of stealing, simple as that. Her cousin didn't need to know about her alarming habits of only eating ten bites for one meal, nor the disorder she'd developed under the Miller patriarch's harsh punishments. As much as Regina wanted nothing more than to smear the man's name, she was actually proud of the House of Miller's longtime prestigious reputation. So a domestic scandal would have to wait for another day, another year. Sometime in the long future, after Regina had achieved her desired freedom.

The younger Ravenclaw didn't need to know any of that. They weren't friends, far from that - they only ever interacted during big family gatherings when Regina's grandmother and Adelaide's grandfather were still alive, and even then the conversations were scarce. But one thing Regina did want Adelaide to know, was that she wasn't the only one who had leverage over her.

"And what of your parents then, dear cousin?" She taunted, waving the half-eaten bun at the other girl. "Does your father know you are also loitering in the halls after curfew? I'm certain the reasoning would only lighten your sentence, at best. You are in as much of a risk as I am right now."

Regina briefly considered if she should purposefully create some noises to alert the patrolling staff, just so they could get caught. She herself was quickly becoming used to receiving detention. It would be amusing to see how the goody-two-shoes little Miss Perfect, however, would react to the idea of being punished for rule-breaking.

She was not a fan of the way Regina was looking down at her condescendingly, it unsettled her. As if she was so much better than Adelaide. The thought alone made Adelaide shudder internally. Plus, the fact she was taller than Regina but the older girl still somehow managed to look down at her, it agitated Adelaide a lot. Her eyes narrowed at the use of the nickname and she stood up to her fullest height, "So, what? Is this just something you're doing to rebel against him? Pathetic," she spat out the last word, hoping to strike a nerve somehow.

Her eyes managed to narrow even further as Regina took a bite out of the stolen food. Seriously, how hard was it to wait until morning? There was no reason to steal food, it was disgraceful behavior. But it seemed threatening to tell Regina's father didn't affect the girl in any way and would only do to further whatever rebel phase the older girl was going through, which is something Adelaide wasn't aiming to do. Adelaide didn't want to help the troublemaker. That was the last thing she wanted to do.

The blonde scoffed, rolling her eyes when Regina brought up her own parents, "Oh please," she said before attempting to whack the half-eaten bun out of the girl's hand. Whether she was successful or not, she didn't care before she continued, "we already have one troublemaker in the family, and they deal with her," she said, referring to her sister, "plus, my father was also an occasional troublemaker during his time at Hogwarts," her tone made it clear she didn't quite agree with her father's past troublemaking tendencies, but he had been an immature teenage boy, so it wasn't really that surprising, "so I doubt he'd be that mad. I'm not going to get caught anyway, so he'll never know, and I'm not being a troublemaker. I just lost track of time. There's a difference."

It occurred to her then, that Regina was unfortunately right, even if Adelaide didn't want to admit it to herself. The more time she spent talking with her cousin, the riskier it was that she could potentially get caught. "Right, well, so I don't get caught, I'm going to head back to my common room now. I'd say good luck not getting caught, but I don't really care. You kind of deserve it," she said, giving her cousin a faux sickeningly sweet smile.

Logan was tired and it was not even that late after curfew. Sometimes she regretted being a prefect as it was tiring just walking the halls to catch students, even though there were not always students wandering after curfew. The Hufflepuff had luckily not caught anyone yet, either having just missed them or just no one being out and about, because there were people in the castle that liked their sleep.

The only noise that the Prefect could really hear throughout the corridors was the gentle tapping of her flats as they hit the stone floor below her. That is, until she heard what she thought were voices nearby. Of course today would be the day that she actually caught other students out after curfew. Logan knew she was not an intimidating person by any means, so having to give a detention was not really on top of her list of things to do, but apparently she was going to have to.

Logan apparently caught up to the two students just on time as she rounded the corner at the end of the corridor. "You may have wanted to leave a few minutes earlier if you did not want caught." She gently called. She mentally slapped herself for what she had said, of all the things she could have said, that was not something that made her sound like she was actually confident in what she was doing. "What are the two of you doing out of your common rooms after curfew?" the girl questioned the two as she made her way closer, pulling her robes tighter against herself as she moved.

Congrats! You have managed to land yourself detention! You can familiarize yourself with our Detention System here. You, the player, are absolutely not in any trouble, the detention is IC.

I will make the starter of detention in which I explain the context of the detention, the expectations, and the requirements to complete the detention. Only when I post the detention thread will the detention rules begin. You can continue to RP in this thread, to try and get out of a detention or become angry with each other over having been caught.

If you have any questions, feel free to owl or dm me

Regina retracted her arm to dodge Adelaide's swatting hand, a bored expression on her face in response to the younger Ravenclaw's holier-than-thou attitude as she recounted Sebastian Barlowe's troublemaking past. Honestly, she could care less about Adelaide's self-righteousness - she was merely baiting time for both of them to get caught. It takes one to know one, after all, and Regina knew the other girl's little arrogant prattle was going to be her own doom when Adelaide could have just walked away right at that moment.

The Gryffindor rebel wanted to laugh sarcastically when a Prefect - Logan Baird, she regconised from their duel last year - rounded the corner and immediately cut through their conversation. How did the Muggles say it again? Hook, line, and sinker.

"Evening, Baird," Regina greeted casually, as though she'd been expecting the older Hufflepuff all along. The Lion took a step forward as she shoved half of the food she'd stolen into her cousin's arms, ignoring whatever angry or bewildered look she'd get from the action. "So terribly sorry for giving you work to do, but I suppose it's your duty as Prefect, no?"

Glinting orchid eyes seemed menacing even though her face faked guiltiness as she hooked an arm around Adelaide's shoulder.

"As you can see, we were just about to head to our respective common rooms after getting some food from the kitchens. I have a dreadful case of nocturnal hunger and dearest Adelaide here is helping me carrying these treats to the Gryffindor Tower, like the generous cousin she is. You aren't going to penalise us for a bit of sneaking, are you not?"

Regina wasn't stupid. Of course she knew Baird was going to assign them detention no matter what excuse was thrown. But the act served to irritate her conceited cousin who believed herself to be above everyone else just because she was a goody-two-shoes who had a clean record of rule-breaking. The moment Adelaide had wanted to challenge her, Regina had decided it was personal. She would make Little Miss Perfect regret provoking somebody who could care less about rules and traditions.

Another voice cutting through the dark of the corridor caused Adelaide's stomach to drop. And it dropped even further when she realized that she was, inevitably, screwed. Why didn't she just leave? She shouldn't have stopped to reprimand Regina, because now they were both going to be in trouble and Regina couldn't care less. It was all her cousin's fault. Would she get into more trouble if she took out her wand right now and cast Flipendo at Regina? Probably, but she was very, very tempted to do just that right now.

Adelaide let out a huff of surprise when Regina shoved half of the stolen food into her arms. Her features turned absolutely murderous as she glared at her cousin. She stared at Regina, then down at the pile of food that was shoved into her arms, and back up at the Gryffindor. Was what she was about to do very childish? Yes. Did she care? No. She grabbed one of the buns, aimed it, and then threw it right at Regina. It was either that or throw the older girl out of the window, and she doesn't think the Prefect standing in front of them would take kindly to the latter option.

When Regina hooked an arm around her shoulder, she tensed and clenched her jaw. "Let go of me," she hissed. Her jaw went slack in shock and indignation with the lies that were spewing from Regina's mouth. When the older girl had finished, Adelaide wrestled herself out of the Gryffindor's grip before shoving the pile of food in her arms right back into Regina's. "That is not true! At all! She-" an accusatory finger was pointed straight at Regina, "is a lying son of a-" she cut off, her gaze glancing momentarily at Baird before deciding she wasn't going to get herself into more trouble by swearing, "she's a liar. I had just lost track of time and was heading straight back to my common room. Regina was the one doing the stealing. So, basically, it's all her fault."

Despite knowing it was fruitless trying to explain herself because even if she was out after curfew by a mistake, she was still out after curfew and the only way out of this situation was detention, she wasn't about to let it seem that she was an accomplice in Regina's thievery. She'd loathe Regina until the end of time for this. If she had just left a bit earlier, she wouldn't be on the way to earning a detention and ruining her clean track record. It was all Regina Miller's fault.
