The Seven Schools

Forward dated to Wednesday, 5th October 2022
Looking into the newly decorated Great Hall or seeing the staff even busier than usual made it very clear what day it was. Today was the day that the international schools were reuniting, with Hogwarts hosting their international counterparts once again. This was not just another visit though. It was a momentous occasion that marked a very important upcoming event. In April, the champions of the tournament had been announced. Now, the first trial of the Hexwizard Tournament was to take part and everyone knew how important such a moment was. The last time this tournament had taken part, Hogwarts had lost one of their own and the dark lord had been reborn; an event that marked the start of the second wizarding war. Decades had passed since but it was not an occasion anyone could easily forget. The many concerns that had been voiced had fallen on deaf ears.
Students from the six visiting schools started to arrive in the late afternoon, a few hours prior to dinnertime. They had arrived by port key, regardless of their usual unique choices of transport. It deprived them of their flying trees, horse-driven carriages or the large boats that some of the schools chose to travel by. However, the Ministry of Magic had decided that port keys were the most logical choice due to the frequency of visits and the burden each of them would have to endure over the coming year if they chose alternative methods of travel. It was also far more convenient and faster for them.
Each school had prearranged a time and location to arrive, where a Head of House would greet them before taking them to the campgrounds, where they were given accommodation. They would, of course, be informed of the school rules and any upcoming events that they would need to know. Whilst they had already received information about the ball a few weeks prior, the invites would be formally handed to them in case they missed it. Each school was assigned a large cabin. The cabins were identical to each other, housing the entire school in one - both the students and the professors alike.
Their arrival was not incredibly spectacular; they lacked the usual large crowds of other students greeting them or the marching band that some of them might have had. The greeting was rather formal, in fact. After they were shown to the cabin, they were given some time to settle down and unpack as they would be there for the next few weeks. However, the schools were invited to a large welcome feast that was held in their honour. A feast had been set up in the Great Hall, which they were all given directions to - in case they required them.
Opening the door of the Great Hall caused some small fireworks to light up by the entrance. This happened each time someone entered, as though it was prompted by their arrival. The beautiful light display would appear in a variety of colours, seemingly random. The sparks were high up above the entrance, too far for most people to touch as they were several feet above the entrance door. However, if someone tried to touch the fireworks, they would find it would simply go through them like a light rather than a hot spark.
Today, the Great Hall looked even larger than usual. The four 'house' tables seemed longer - each housing far more students than they had just the day prior - and extra seats were placed up near the professors' table. It was clear that the school was anticipating far more students for each meal. In the centre of the hall, behind the Headmaster's seat, a large flag with the Hogwarts logo hovered in the air. It was visible on entry but that was not the only change. On the left side, three flags floated amongst the candles; Beauxbatons, Koldovstoretz and Durmstrang. On the right side, exactly opposite those flags, there were three others - the Ilvermorny, Mahoutokoro and Castelobruxo flags.
Students were ushered in and asked to quickly take a seat anywhere in the room. The tables were set but there was no food yet. A staff member from Hogwarts and Beauxbatons stood by the entrance, chatting whilst they ushered students in and asked them to quickly take a seat anywhere in the room. Schools and houses were to be put aside for the meal, and they were encouraged to mingle. Today, they were not competitors.
The Ilvermorny Headmaster made his way over to the Durmstrang Headmistress as he brushed some glitter off his shoulder. Where it came from, who knew with this man? The Heads of Mahoutokoro and Castelobruxo were chatting near the professors' table.
With the first task of the Hexwizard Tournament in a few weeks, all of the schools were here and ready. Castelobruxo was not participating this time around but they would be able to spectate, with the hope that they would join in the future if the tournament was a success. Fingers crossed for such a thing. The last few trips had been better for Koldovstoretz and hopefully, this would continue this time. What happened in the past could not repeat itself.
Once everyone had settled into their seats, the professors quickly followed suit and settled down. Some sat amongst the students, others stayed at the professors' table. The sound of a fork clanking against a metal goblet could be heard emitting from the professors' table to gather everyone's attention. Some short speeches were given by various staff members welcoming everyone to the school, about the upcoming tournament, and repeating the school rules for the visitors.
During one of the speeches, the following students were each called out by name and asked to stand up:
Miles Thatcher (@Simon Kincaid) of Ilvermorny
Aryaan Shamsi (@Hui Ming) of Mahoutokoro,
Rodion Makarovich (@Aurora Ranvier) of Koldovstoretz
Cassanora Browne (@Hugh Lowe) of Beauxbatons,
Yefim Rumyantsev (@Flash Holmwood) of Durmstrang
and @Howard White of Hogwarts
These were the champions of their respective schools. Two of the names had not originally come out of the goblet. Aryaan Shamsi had acquired the role back in April after the original champion declined it and had been featured in interviews since, so his name was likely of no surprise to anyone. Cassanora Browne was a slightly newer name but she had recently taken over the role after the former Beauxbatons champion stepped down, after contracting an illness and being unable to continue. It had been announced recently but may have been a surprise to some.
Whether the champions chose to stand or not, a large round of applause would go out across the room after each name - either out of politeness or as their friends (or school) loudly cheered for them. As 'Howard White' was called, there were a few 'boos' and grumbles around the room but they were quickly drowned out by the sheer volume of the supporters.
With that speech over, Headmaster Lear clapped his hands and announced that dinner was served. As he did, dishes started to appear on the tables. There was a huge range of food, including the usual British food served and a few international dishes from each of the school's regions to celebrate this international reunion. With Autumn now in full swing, there were also a few seasonal dishes to celebrate this - from pumpkin spiced hot chocolate to berry pie. The food and the mixed seating were all to encourage a community spirit. Whilst they might be competitors in a few weeks, it was hoped that the Hexwizard Tournament would be a friendly competition. At least, that was a hope that some had. Many outside of Hogwarts did not share that same hope.
OOC Notes:
- This is the arrival thread for the iNPCs visiting Hogwarts for the Fall Ball. You may post with your PC and/or your approved iNPC.
- Please don't interact with the NPC Headmasters/anyone named in this post, unless they post separately and are open for interactions.
- iNPCs will be at Hogwarts from Wednesday 5th October until Monday 24th October (a reminder that the Autumn Ball is on Saturday 8th October and Hexwizard Task 1 is on Sunday 23rd October).
- A reminder to brush up on the rules surrounding NPCs, including:
Reducio1. Only approved iNPCs can be roleplayed. Don't RP things that aren't approved... (If you have unapproved/pending abilities or stats etc, don't RP them).
2. You MUST post a picture of your iNPC in every post with them. This picture or avatar is what you use when you are posting as them to clearly indicate that you are posting as your iNPC and not your PC. (This can be a fancy banner or just an image but something must accompany it).
3. Ideally, please link to your iNPC's encyclopedia in every post with them.
For instance:4. Honestly make it clear that they are different. If your posts aren't clear at first glance (i.e. without reading the post itself) then it's not clear enough.Roleplaying as [Name of iNPC] from [School] - Link to Encyclopedia

Time passed fast! Without Andy realizing, a month had passed since his second year at Ilvermorny started, and soon, it was early October, which only mean one thing, the fall ball in Hogwarts, Scotland, in which Ilvermorny and other 5 magic schools around the world would be participating in, was about to start. Although Andy missed the last year`s fall ball, he heard from his classmates that it was a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, through dancing and other fascinating activities. For a shy boy like Andy, it was certainly overwhelming to enter a new room with a large number of unfamiliar people, he wanted to take this opportunity for him to come out of his shell a little bit and try to make a few friends, such as Milly, a first-year Horned Serpent he met at his second week of this new academic year in Ilvermorny. In short, he was expecting and fearing the fall ball.
Finally, it was Oct 5th, time for Andy to take a long journey to Hogwarts to enter the fall ball and prepare for the Hexwizard tournament as a wait-listed member of the Ilvermorny Hexwizard team. When he finally arrived that evening, he was extremely tired and hungry from the long journey and the empty stomach. Luckily, the tables were full of delicious fall-special food for him to enjoy. After the ritual of introducing the headmasters and Hexwizard champions from all schools, he could not wait to grab his knife and fork to devour the tasty feast.

Andy was busy taking in some food to fulfill his empty stomach when he suddenly heard a familiar voice calling him. He quickly swallowed the food into his stomach, looked around, and found Milly, the first-year Horned Serpent who had a brief interaction with him a month ago, found a seat beside him. She said hi to him and asked him how he had been with her usual friendly smile. The shy Thunderbird was a bit surprised to find Milly but was glad to find someone he was familiar with among the unfamiliar faces of various students from other schools. Andy responded to her, also with a smile, "Hi, Milly! You surprised me! Sorry, I am busy swallowing some tasty food and don`t notice you sitting beside me. It is a long journey to reach here, and I haven`t eaten much during the day, so I am really hungry. There are a lot of new faces at the feast whom I am too shy to start a chat with, so I am just eating. I am doing great! How about you? How are you feeling these days? Are you excited for the ball?" He smiled at Milly after finishing his speech, and waited for the friendly Horned Serpent to respond.

So this was how Hogwarts looked like. It was very different from Castelobruxo, or at least it appeared so in Sherlock's mind, but still, it was pretty.
Earlier, the little Belizean preteen was terribly nervous when came the time that he had to travel from his school to this one. It was his very first time to visit the United Kingdom, the third country he had ever set foot on after his home country and Brazil. Sure he was excited, but one could not fib that they felt no butterflies at all when they did something awfully new to them.
It was also his first time to travel by Portkey, even though the blond had so often heard about this method of travelling. His father had told him that it may feel uncomfortable, but words alone could not have prepared Sherlock for the first hand sensation.
The boy arrived at the Scottish school of magic all nauseous and dizzy, and quickly he scrambled to the nearest available seat, afraid that he could fall down and attract attention, or worse, throw up and cause a scene.
None happened, fortunately, and Sherlock started to enjoy casting his brown eyes to the walls of Hogwarts for the very first time, forgetting (or almost forgetting) his concerns about keeping the honours of Castelobruxo by acting properly and about running into Raul Correa.

Having eyes, but not seeing beauty; having ears, but not hearing music; having minds, but not perceiving truth; having hearts that are never moved and therefore never set on fire - these are the things to fear.

Miles Thatcher in the Great Hall, open to interaction
It was time to return back to Hogwarts, as Ilvermorny and the other magical schools made their trek back to attend the Fall Ball and the upcoming Hexwizard Tournament.
Back to cold stone castle walls, forests forbidden to explore, hotheaded students creating unnecessary drama, students speaking either eloquently or the opposite end of the spectrum in their broken English, and halfbreeds roaming the halls amongst them. His former trip to Hogwarts hadn't yielded the best impression and with the British school hosting Summer Camp and making it, well, nothing like a camp experience - his opinion of the school had lowered more. He wasn't looking forward to this trip, and honestly if he hadn't been chosen as the Ilvermorny champion he probably wouldn't have returned.
There were a few good things about the school that he would focus on. His parents had less influence, well, none exactly, of the politics within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and therefore they couldn't meddle as much as they did back in Ilvermorny. Also, he was able to finish out his Hexwizard Roster and his teammates were able to join him on this trip, as was Olive Adair who was becoming someone he was eager to see upon each encounter. He also had a pretty good friend amongst the Hogwarts students and hopefully he'd cross paths with Haley Rose again or some from his tent from Summer Camp. They also had an old, but well kept quidditch pitch where he could practice.
Miles had found himself a place at the table that was amongst mostly fellow Ilvermorny classmates and gave them a small smile as he took his place. He gathered up some things onto his plate and began eating as the announcements were made. He was asked to stand and sighed when of course his name had to be called first. He did so quickly, giving just the slightest of waves across the Great Hall before sitting back down. Some might relish in this 'glory' of being a champion but honestly, he was starting to be ready for this tournament to be over.

Miles Thatcher conversing with Amelia Miller (@Lily Blaze) and Andy Menton (@Rita Su). Open to interaction
Miles was about to pick up his fork when an introduction was made and he looked across the table to the very friendly blonde girl who was making it. She stated her name, as well as nickname and most likely name preference and then asked his. Part of him was glad that she asked, because that meant she wasn't really paying attention just now to where he was announced and therefore not all too wrapped up into this Hexwizard Tournament business. He could appreciate someone who could put that aside at the moment.
"Miles Thatcher," he said as he extended his hand over the table, hesitating for just a moment to move aside a bowl of gravy with his other hand so they weren't shaking right over it. Manners and all - whether he planned to use them or not, they were instilled within him. He offered up a kind smile to her. "I believe you're a fellow Ilvermorny student?" he glanced over to the boy near her and recognized him as Andy Menton, one of the waitlisters on the roster.
"Menton," he said, with a nod, greeting him as well. "Is this either of yours first time at Hogwarts?"

Andy could clearly see that Milly was excited about the ball seeing her face turn pink. It was hard to say if Andy was excited or not because the shy Thunderbird felt overwhelmed by the large number of new faces on the ball, but he was also willing to seize this opportunity to come out of his shell and try his best to interact with new people and hopefully make some new friends to keep them less lonely for the break time. Or maybe even develop a love interest or a crush? "It is better to say I am interested, I don`t want to upset Milly." Andy thought and responded to her with a fake smile, "I am interested in the ball too. Cannot wait for the ball to start so that I can try to interact with several new people and maybe make a few friends." A slightly taller and older boy with dark straight hair suddenly found a seat between them. Andy recognized him from the school pictures that he was the Ilvermorny Hexwizard Champion, a third-year Thunderbird named Miles Thatcher. Milly clearly did not know him as she only came to Ilvermorny for a few weeks, so they introduced themselves, and then Miles turned to Andy, recognized him as one of the waitlisted members of the Ilvermorny Hexwizard team, and asked him if it was his first time to Hogwarts. The shy Thunderbird was a bit surprised by Miles addressing him by his last name and asking him a direct question even though it was the first time they meet in person, but he was determined to overcome his shyness and pick up the courage to respond to Miles. Andy felt his face blush again, as he responded to Miles, "Hi, Miles. Yeah, it is my first time." Andy was so shy to speak with an older student for the first time that he immediately focused on the food on his plate as soon as Miles` attention was distracted as Milly was asking him a few more questions.

Ginyami admired the small, glittering fireworks that seemed to be set off by each individual's passage into the Great Hall. He looked around with his squinted eyes, smiling as usual, as he tried to determine where to sit. Supposedly they were allowed to sit anywhere, but Ginyami wanted to sit somewhere most advantageous to him. He wanted to hear talk of what other students thought of the events and maybe meet some new people. No, that was a must, not a maybe. He always had to meet new people. One never knew when one's connections could come in handy, especially in this competition between the schools.
Not that Ginyami cared much for the competition. He was proud of his school, to be sure, and supported them as any student might be expected to support their own, but the Hexwizard tournament wasn't something he expected to really participate in. He was much more interested in getting to know the other students from the other schools and find out what they were like. To that end, he sat amidst a table of strangers, especially because he had yet to see anyone else from Mahoutokoro. He wondered if others might join him at a later time, but he wasn't all that concerned that no one would. That would provide the opportunity to meet new faces and names, after all.

Valentin "The White Niffler" Schnell slipped into the Great Hall with the intent to support his friend and champion, Yefim Rumyantsev. The feast was not of interest to the seeker, particularly after what his friend Aida had said about the food at Hogwarts. He would find another way to meet his needs. Scanning the room, Valentin entertained himself by trying to identify each quidditch player in the room. He didn’t particularly want to sit down and would have rather paced the length of the hall while waiting for the proceedings to begin, but he compelled himself to restrain himself to a chair. Drumming his fingers on the table, Valya started working through which of the potential new drills he might broach to his co-captain Romeo when they started quidditch practice up again upon returning to Durmstrang. Yet, this topic, too, soon petered out and he began to wiggle his right foot with pent-up energy.
Staring up at the ceiling, Valentin let out a long sigh. He wanted to be doing things, active things, not sitting around… The passing snippets of conversation in the air around him flitted by too frequently for him to practice writing music in his head, and having arrived so early seemed to have backfired since he now had no one in particular to talk to.

Shortly after seating himself, Ginyami found it impossible to overlook a fidgety young man who sat in a chair nearby and instantly began to drum his fingers against the table while looking around. The fellow had pale, practically white skin and even paler hair. His striking eyes were a silvery violet and his build was startlingly skinny. Ginyami thought he almost looked like some strange marble statue but for his constant movement.
His ever-present smile growing wider, the Japanese youth adjusted his kimono and robes before getting up to move closer to the other individual. The statue-like boy appeared to be about his age but was definitely from a different school. At the time, the other boy was looking up at the ceiling, so Ginyami cleared his throat so as not to startle him.
"Greetings," the noiret said in a light but cheerful voice, dipping his head slightly. "You seem...restless. Is something on your mind?" He clapped his hands together. "Oh, but where are my manners? I am Ginyami Midorimori. It is a pleasure to meet you. Both of us seem to be in need of something to do. Might I attempt to relieve you of your boredom?"
