A relatively uneventful round when duelling was concerned. Elsa remained steadfast in her efforts to remove Robert from this match. While the boy’s flames were only just dying out with one final bite, the Gryffindor unleashed a perfectly crafted flame raging in his direction. Perhaps he understood that his time left in the duel might be limited while he got closer to standing on his last legs. However, that would not deter Robert from continuing to watch his opponents, and in that effort, Elsa’s flames would pass by him, but only by a hair as the heat threatened to send him through another round of pain.

Elliot and Dealla were of one mind as their wands pointed to the battlefield, both calling out Fumos roughly at the same time. Smoke erupted from both of their wands. Elliot, however, managed to produce a particularly thick smoke that flooded the area far more quickly than it typically would have. All the duellists might find their eyes burning while attempting to squint through the thick smog to locate their adversaries.

Robert could feel the heat of Elsa's flame graze past, narrowly missing him. He'd once again thrown away the opportunity to attack, but at least he now felt he'd at least made the correct choice. Drawing fire hehe was definitely one contribution to the team.

Robert heard a dual cry of "fumos," and suddenly, the arena was filled with thick smoke, making it impossible to see anything but shadowy shapes. Tilting his head, Robert tried to figure out why Elliot had cast the smokescreen spell as well. It made sense for Dee; with only a little time left in the duel, it was a good way to stall and keep their advantage. However, Elliot couldn't think he would win as he was, and he didn't even seem to be in much need for healing.

It suddenly dawned on Robert that Elliot was doing better than Elsa, and may be comfortable with second place. It was a strange epiphany; an idea that totally contradicted Robert's being. How could you possibly give up, settle for second? With a mental shrug, Robert pushed it out of his mind. It was a pretty big mental leap, and one that he didn't really want to spend time thinking about. He was probably wrong anyways.

Nicky was simply grasping onto straws at this point, she had no idea what she was supposed to do, she had trained and prepared for anything but this. However, she wasn't going to panic. Everything was fine, she was simply going to try and keep going until the duel was over. She narrowed her eyes and focused on her opponents' shapes, barely visible through the smoke. She could do this. She would be strong for the sake of her house. Rawr.

The duel was slowly nearing its end, precious seconds ticking down. Which wasn't a bad thing, per se, considering her team had managed to keep its advantage, even if not much other progress had been made in the past few minutes. Plus, considering her hit quota had been gradually going down as the duel went on, perhaps it was time for a change in strategy. It wasn't one she particularly liked, always preferring a clean end, knocking out her opponents rather than winning by default when the time ran out, but a win was a win, so simply making sure the others didn't land too many hits before the match ended would do the trick.

"Fumos," she muttered, then frowned as another voice across the field mirrored her incantation, and smoke came pouring across the field at an alarming speed. She coughed, suppressing the urge to uselessly wave her hand in front of her face. The smoke was everywhere, but breathing it in was never a pleasant experience. She was really looking forward to learning that fog spell, at least that didn't irritate her lungs.

She took a quiet step to the side, counting on the smoke to obscure her new position, then glanced at the hazy shape that was Robert near her. He was still holding up well, but there was some time to go. Twirling her wand around her fingers, she squinted through the smoke, trying to make out the remaining contestants from the other teams.

GREAT minds thought alike, but greater minds ravaged an already deteriorating environment for personal gain. The Lorax would’ve cowered at the sight of him, the mouthless green can of spinach and nightmares would’ve, and he felt amazing about it all. He felt less amazing when considering what such energy and enthusiasm could’ve done for Manuela’s spirits and uniform repair bills, but the past was past, and the present was a gift he would have to open with the chance that they’d get all fussy about that tea-throwing thing from a few years ago and give him matching, scalded scars. He didn’t know where he was going with this, which staunchly remained poetic as he also did not know where his wand was to go with the mask of grey being snapped over everything in sight.

Elliot’s lungs were relatively unbothered by the spell, going on about their daily activities of faithfully horrible Sondheim renditions without more interruption than what would be caused by a particularly evasive dust mote from under the couch. His home was in the rapidly flatlining heart of Brooklyn, it would’ve been sacrilege to show any sign of weakness in the face of oppressive, definitely-disease-causing smog. Still, as his opponents’ silhouettes were covered in a blanket of smoke rivalling that of what a traffic jam was nested in every rush hour, his eyes began to itch behind his glasses, flitting about and searching for some form of life that wasn’t his really confused hand. Oh, well, wasn’t too late to make himself levitate above the competition and make unduly pompous comments from above.

Dealla and Robert intended to stay in the game and hold their first-place position. Robert maintained his position as bait, one his adversaries were happy to take, while Dealla focused on easing the boy’s pain. Robert was thoroughly roasted and would undoubtedly give the nurse a run for their money in burn paste, but as a soothing purple light enveloped him, Robert would find the short time left in the duel more bearable.

Elliot focused on where Robert had stood before the smoke swirling and shifting the silhouettes across the battlefield, making it harder to determine if the young man was moving or not. However, the young American had to shoot his shot and let forth the dazzling blue light of Flipendo. As it ripped across the field, it helped illuminate everyone’s positions, if only momentarily, before the fog once more consumed them.

Elsa just drew the short end of the stick as she focused on the area where Robert had been the round before. She incanted, what she felt, was perfect, but something felt very wrong. Blue light built up at the tip of her wand and delayed too long. Seconds later, as if she held the end of her wand to a glass wall blinding blue light refracted backward, slamming Elsa with the full force of her own spell. Her body would be propelled back, and the girl was hopefully unconscious before she hit the ground.

“EVERYONE HALT!” Santario raised her arm to her face allowing her sleeve to cover her nose and mouth as she entered the foggy field more cautiously than rounds before. Walking into a sight hindered area was dangerous, even in a fair duel. “That’s unfortunate…” She could be heard speaking as she kneeled next to Elsa’s crumpled form. “Medics! Lumos.” She stood and raised her wand high, giving the medical team a better point of reference. “Gryffindor is out of the duel.” She informed everyone while the medics removed Elsa from the field. Jeers and cheers flooded the air while San took her place back on the sidelines ended the light on her wand. “Nox. There isn’t much time left. Make it count. Continue!”

Dee hated the sense of vulnerability that came with the impaired vision. While it made it more difficult for their opponents to target Robert, it also made it hard for her to anticipate possible changes in strategy. But they were almost at the finish line, and all that was left to do was to make sure Robert was still standing when they crossed it, which meant the best move for her was to give him a little boost.

Her healing had never been the most powerful, she lacked a natural aptitude for it, but it was better than nothing, and would hopefully leave him free to dodge any other incoming attacks. Two incantations were spoken in the smoke, and Dee readied herself just in case, but only one spell shot towards Robert. Instead, there was a flash of blue light from where Elsa stood, and then the thump of a body hitting the ground.

Dee winced, too familiar with the sensation of a spell backfiring, but didn't really have it in her to feel too bad for the girl. If anything, this was a good thing, cementing the Ravenclaw victory. Santario called for another pause - there was barely any time left in the duel, anyway - and Dee relaxed. "How are you feeling?" she asked Robert, brushing a strand of hair back. "I'd offer some of my burn-healing paste, but it seems silly to get disqualified now, and the medics probably have their own stash. We're almost done, anyway."

Robert blinked. He wasn't quite sure what else to do in response to what just happened. On one hand, the irony of a spell backfiring hard enough to knock the original spell-caster into a deep and dreamless slumber seemed oddly hilarious, but at the same time he felt absolutely horrible for Nicky. Of all the ways to lose a duel, knocking yourself out what by far the least dignified.

Robert grinned at Dee. "Thanks, I think those healing spells are good enough for now." A pang of sadness came over him with her next words. All duels have to end, and it would definitely be nice to get healed a bit more, but at the same time, there was nothing quite like the adrenaline brought by dueling. There was only a bit of time left in the game. Robert wanted to make it count.

FOR Elliot to appreciate one of his opponents going out with a bang, he had a very formal, very fancy, very not-just-made-up set of criteria that were of the gravest seriousness with absolutely no room for joking around. As such, they were read by the most formal, fancy, and not-made-up person he could think of, and as such they were being read by the Pringles mascot to an audience of Snickers bars and Kool-Aid men that weren’t flavored like watermelon. The first criterion was that it had to happen during a dramatic declaration of lifelong devotion before tearfully taking out the…taken out. The second criterion was that it had to be accompanied by a one-liner James Bond would sell his Aston Martin to use. The third, which Pringles man tentatively cleared his mashed potato throat before, was that it had to benefit him in the overall stratagem of the universe, who very much wanted him to be the most important person on Earth. The rather untheatrical thump of a body on the ground ticked off none of these, and while he admired the girl’s tenacity considering her partner’s earlier misfortune, he would’ve admired her knocking one of the ravens out before the fact slightly more.

Whoo!” He pumped perhaps the flimsiest fist in cheering history, nearly dropping his wand during the act in a stunning display of coordination. “Awesome possum jobums, everyone.

He did not, in fact, believe this to be an awesome possum jobum. It was an unpleasant possum jobum that he would have approved of if the remaining Gryffindor had been and/or knocked out via giant swooping phoenix that would then declare the remaining duellists the subjects of a forgotten prophecy who had the power to destroy or heal the world of its many ailments once they found The Great Amulet made by The Great Alchemist made at An Annoyingly Unconventional Good Era. Neither situation took place, so he decided to face social death with dignity. That saucepan dude from Russia would have a fun time hearing about this, anyways.

The last round was what she expected. Robert attempted to watch Elliot who in turn watched right back. Neither of them was going to get hit again in this duel. Dealla, despite her teammates edging that it was no longer necessary, decided to heal her partner again to further secure their first-place position.

“Time is up; everyone can stand down.” Santario called as she started making her way to the middle of the battlefield while the smoke finished clearing the air giving everyone free sight of each other once more. “Third place goes to Alec and Elsa from Hogwarts. Second place goes to Manuela and Elliot from Castelobruxo and Ilvermorny, respectively. This leaves our first-place winners as Dealla and Robert from Hogwarts! Congratulations to all of you left standing; this was not an easy duel. I highly suggest most of you seek out the medic tent.” With that, Santario turned her back to the players and the cheers and jeers of the crowd taking her leave.
