How time flies! The summer holiday has passed, and it was time for Andy to return to Ilvermorny and begin his second year. As an introverted and shy boy, Andy`s first week at Ilvermorny in this new school year was kind of tough, because there were a bunch of unfamiliar faces, and he was too shy to interact with anyone that he was unfamiliar with and did not dare to approach someone new to start a conversation. Instead, he was often wandering around the campus alone like an outsider, feeling extremely lonely and homesick. Andy knew he should not stay that way for the whole year, otherwise, he would miss many activities and it will be a lonely and dull year for him. Instead, he should try to come out of his shell a little bit and try to interact with someone and makes some new friends. But it just seemed to be difficult for him, but after thinking for quite a while, he decided to challenge himself and try to find someone new to start a conversation with next week.
Soon, it was Andy`s second week at Ilvermorny, and it was time for him to face the challenge. That afternoon, when the class finally finished, Andy was again wandering alone around the corridors, trying to find someone for a possible chat. A lot of people passed by Andy in the corridors, but they did not seem to notice Andy, but there was one girl he had never seen before, who seemed to be interested in Andy as she looked at him with a warm smile and approached him slowly. Andy hesitated to approach her, but the girl`s smile seemed so friendly that it even relieved his nerve a little bit. He thought for a while, and finally picked up the courage to walk closer to the girl and attempted to start a chat, "Hi...I am Andy...Andy Menton...a second-year Thunderbird...what is your name?" He felt his face blushing as he introduced himself to the unfamiliar girl, his voice gradually lowered, and he was too nervous to even look at the girl in the face. Fortunately, he managed to step out of his shell a little bit and tried to start the conversation. Andy was not sure if the girl would respond to him, but her smile did make him feel a little better. He was determined to interact further with her.

Seeing the girl`s warm smile, Andy had already felt a bit relieved. Besides that, the girl approached him gently, introduced herself and asked him questions politely, and even praised his ordinary name to make him feel more comfortable. All those things mean a lot to an introvert like Andy and made his nerves disappear. "Meeting someone new isn`t as scary as I used to think, especially meeting someone like Milly, who is just so warm and kind to me, makes things a lot better. Luckily, I finally come out of my shell and meet someone like her. It is sometimes painful to push myself a little bit to face some challenges, but things may turn out to be unexpectedly well after the painful state. Imagine, if I do not pick up the courage to start a chat with Milly, how do I know she will turn out to be such a nice girl? Oh, I have been thinking for too long, let me answer Milly`s questions first. She may leave if I remain silent for too long." Andy stopped thinking and turned to Milly to respond to her, "You are being so nice to me, Milly! Your smile and your words make me feel a lot better! Sorry for the not-so-good first impression I may leave on you, I was just being very nervous when I met you for the first time. I might have seen you before, I just don`t remember that. You know, it is always the same people in the school, so it is quite normal if we pass by. As for your questions, I don`t think there is anything particular to do during the first few days here in Ilvermorny, and I think there is a ball in Scotland where we and students from other wizarding schools can attend and have fun. Besides, I am a broom racer, but I missed the summer games because of family issues, and I don`t know when we will have the broom-racing game again. I know there are rumors about me, but I don`t really care about what they say. So, are you thinking about participating in a sport? Have you got any plans for the upcoming ball? Do you have anything else to ask me? Anyway, thank you for being really nice to me. You really helped me to come out of my shell and I no longer feel nervous chatting with you. Meeting new people is still fairly challenging for me as I will still be quite nervous, but I will try my best. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me." After answering Milly`s questions, Andy no longer felt nervous facing the first-year Horned Serpent. He smiled at Milly and waited for her to respond.

Andy understood it might be uncomfortable for Milly to admit that she was helping him, an older-year boy, to gradually come out of his cage. In fact, they were helping each other, she was helping him to be less nervous when he was interacting with her, and he, in return, was answering her questions and helping her to get organized as a newcomer to Ilvermorny. But why did she say he was not interested in being her friend? Andy was a bit confused since he had a very good first impression of Milly, and had seen the possibility of her being his friend. Anyway, Andy did not want to upset Milly by keeping her waiting for too long, so he turned to Milly, and began to respond to her.
" I can see that you are excited about the ball. To be honest, I also do not know much about the ball. I just heard my classmates saying there is going to be a ball, but I suppose it is going to be fun. I know it is also quite challenging for me because there will definitely be a lot of new faces, but I will try to interact with them and possibly make some friends. I hope I will meet someone as sweet as you! By the way, if you don`t mind, maybe you can be my ball partner! What do you think?" After throwing a question to Milly, Andy smiled at her to see her response. Seeing her also smiling at him, Andy felt a bit relieved, and continued to talk, hoping his invitation did not make her uncomfortable.
"Well, Charms is a nice class! Actually, I don`t have a particular favorite class, I don`t mind any of them, but if I had to choose one, I would say Flying, because I enjoy taking adventures on the broom, and it enhances my broom racing skills as a broom racer. Do you have anything else to ask? I think it is nearly time for dinner. But I can have dinner later if you still have anything to ask." After finishing his words, Andy smiled at Milly again, and waited for her to respond.

Andy listened carefully as Milly comforted him and explained the situation to him with the usual warm smile. He actually did not think Milly was talking too much, as he was in fact also talking a lot without realizing how many words he said, as he no longer felt shy chatting with her. As for the ball thing, Andy felt shamed about bringing that dance partner invitation up, as he actually did not plan for Milly to accept his invitation, he just wanted Milly to realize he did want to form a good relationship with her, not that kind of relationship, just as friends. Andy understood it had possibly made Milly uncomfortable to suddenly bring up this topic, as it was an awkward thing to say when you meet someone for the first time, and she probably had someone in mind. He turns to Milly and decided to Apologize to her, "Thanks for your kind words and sorry for the dance partner thing. I didn`t mean to make you uncomfortable. I know you probably had someone in mind, it`s OK if you are not my dance partner for the ball. I will try to find someone else to dance with. Hope you don`t make you upset. By the way, as you do not have anything else to ask me, I shall dash now to have dinner. Catch you later! Feel free to ask me if you have further questions later!" After finishing his words, Andy waved goodbye to Milly, and seeing Milly also waving goodbye to him, he quickly exited the slightly awkward social situation that seemed so friendly and soothing before. "I should have avoided bringing up the dance partner thing! That literally changed the atmosphere that seemed to be such a relief to me before! I hope Milly is not mad at me for bringing that up! Anyway, still a memorable first meeting with a first-year Horned Serpent, at least I came out of my shell and met the first unfamiliar person with the new school year! It is still challenging for me, but I should try to interact with more people and pay attention to what I say to keep the situation less awkward!" He thought as he quickly ran away to avoid things getting worse.
