โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ There was a feeling mutating inside her after yesterday's events. It didn't feel like guilt, nor did it feel like regret. In fact, she felt little to no remorse for what she'd done to Sophia. It was kept buried away in a part of her mind that she didn't want to open. It seemed wrong, to feel this way about what had happened. What was this feeling? It was making her frantic, waiting in anticipation for something that she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Faye had made sure to get extra-clicky shoes over the summer to accommodate her unique small way of walking, her multi-step pace making quite a noise on both the wooden and stone floors. It would have been embarrassing for anybody else, but she preferred it this way. It made her feel important, like she was announcing herself to everybody wherever she walked. It made heads turn towards her, look her up and down, notice her. She preferred not to notice the annoyed looks, though.
There was an abundance of stares today. Perhaps because it was the first day of lessons and everyone was hungry, perhaps it was the fact that everybody knew her from throwing a hissy fit and almost blinding someone at the Welcoming Feast. Still, she made her way down the corridor, keeping an eye out for a certain Gryffindor, her heart beating out of her chest everytime she thought she saw a flash of orchid in the crowd.
When she reached the inside of the Small Hall she paused, going up on her tiptoes to try and search the sea of students for Regina. She scowled. Was she not coming? Had she seen what had happened last night, at the feast?
The scowl was slowly morphing into dread.
Did she hate her for causing a scene? Had she ruined everything? Would Regina ever speak to her again? Ever look her way? Notice the sound her shoes made, the fact her hair was different, the fact that she was different? Her foot tapped on the floor as she waited.
The emotion wasn't guilt. No. It was paranoia.
Standing in the corner of the hall, fingers twitching by her side, her eyes threatening to start tearing up, Faye felt humiliated. She looked up and caught the eye of a painting on the wall. Was she imagining the exasperated look it was giving her?
"What are you looking at?"

Regina adjusted the strap of her school satchel on her shoulder, glancing cooly at the people who shuffled away from her ominous presence as she walked down the Small Hall on her way to breakfast. Even with the mandatory black outer robes that all students must wear, Regina's new stylish Gryffindor uniform underneath was a stark contrast to the preppy one she used to wear since her first year. It was a bold statement for those who were keen enough to notice - a change in character the girl wanted everybody to know. Her siblings had already took one look at the way she dressed and shook their heads, because public image as Purebloods were incredibly important. What did it speak of the House of Miller when their youngest Heir did not respect the norms of school uniforms?
Well, that was what her goal entailed. If being obedient and 'perfect' did not garner her unloving Father's attention, then Regina would do whatever it took to force the recognition out of him. Even if it meant becoming rebellious.
However, that didn't mean she approved of what Faye had done during the Welcoming Feast. Sure, Regina wasn't the one to talk with all of her dramatic plans for rule-breaking this year. But she was smarter than that - and she had more class. She wouldn't just blatantly attack somebody right in the middle of the Great Hall where all of the Professors and Prefects were in attendance. That was just asking to be punished right on the spot. And it was more embarrassing than imposing and fearsome. So it was with this mindset that Regina approached Faye from behind with a disapproving frown, the blond girl hissing at a judgemental portrait while wearing such ridiculous heels were not helping her case at all.
"You will find that sometimes, even paintings can be critical when you are the one acting strange. I particularly do not blame it for looking at you like that, especially after what happened at the Ravenclaw table."
The raven-haired Gryffindor came to a stop in front of Faye, orchid eyes narrowed with disappointment.
"What in Merlin's name had possessed you to become so rabid yesterday?" She interrogated. "It was completely childish. I never expected such behaviour of you."

โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ Faye widened her eyes and made a face at the portrait, sniffing as she rubbed at her eyes. When nothing happened she made another, and then another. Still with no results, she huffed loudly out her nose. Stupid paintings. They really had a way of getting into your head.
"Don't you have something else to do? Go and bother somebody el-Jesus Christ!
A familiar voice riddled with mistrust appeared from behind her, making her shriek and jolt upright, almost loosing her footing in the heels. She spun around, and her breath hitched. There was Regina, the one person she wanted to see. It was like she had this aura around her, making her stand out from everybody that walked past. It was intoxicating, but there was something off with the way she looked at her. The ecstasy of seeing the Gryffindor started to die away whilst she listened to her interrogation, widened, wet eyes working overtime to search her face for lies she hoped she was telling.
She opened her mouth to say something, but it died in her throat as Regina moved towards her and continued with her questioning. There was barely a height difference between the two but, in the moment, it felt like the older girl was towering over her, backing her into a corner. She was getting flashbacks to her early childhood, her mother asking her questions and questions whilst standing above her, looking down on her with disappointed looks.
The words hurt, she didn't deny it. She was childish in a good way, right? It was nice, an uplifting energy that drew people to her. It wasn't childish in a bad way? What if she had? Of course she was childish, she barely knew anything, she was behind in most of her classes, she had to fake everything. Maybe she should have gone down a different route, pretended to be all popular and pretty, that would make people like her more than the wild goose chase she'd led everybody on. Huh. That was actually a good idea. She should save that for later.
Faye had gotten quite good on taking off and putting on an act throughout her life. The transition from a fumbling mess to passive aggressive was like flicking a switch, folding her arms and leaning into Regina's personal space. She had a vindictive, jealous look on her face unlike any other expression she usually wore.
"You're one to talk. Promising girls things and then leaving them hanging. Did you go and make other friends, then? You don't care about me anymore? Not enough to even write a single letter?"
A little harmless manipulation never hurt anybody, it just got them what they wanted.
"I was wrong about you, you know." Faye scoffed.
Okay, maybe that was a bit of a white lie. But it would keep the act going, enough to get Regina to tell her everything. And she meant everything.

The moment Faye crossed her arms and leaned towards Regina with a hostile expression, the older teen felt her blood ran cold with an impending fury that only increased with the vindictive accusation that followed.
She didn't want to hurt Faye. But the constant burning fire inside her chest roared and her fingers twitched for her wand. There was no one who'd recognise manipulation better than a victim of one herself.
"Is that so."
Her voice was quiet, too quiet. It was never a good sign when it came to Regina - depending on the severity of the situation and the intonation of her voice, one usually was able to guess just how angry she was. Right now, the only thing holding the Gryffindor back was the crowd of students inside the hall. There would be too many witnesses. Her eyes, however, had a dangerous glint to them that turned the purple shade poisonous. Her dark presence seemed to pour out steadily the longer she glared at Faye, and her jaw was tense as she took a step forward - closing the distance between them and towering over the Ravenclaw with her back straightened.
"Since the first day we met, you should have known not to expect anything sentimental of me," Regina seethed. "I knocked you into the Great Lake with the Knockback Jinx, and I could have done much worse, because that is the person I really am."
It was time to disillusion the other girl from whatever fairytale light she saw her in. Regina was not a good person. She was messed up in the head, she was flawed, she was cynical. Having someone like Faye beside her wasn't going to erase her darkness, it was merely suppressed. And if Faye was finally going to see the truth and leave - going back against her initial stubbornness of not giving up on Regina - then the raven-haired witch was gladly going to let her. But Faye was never going to be allowed back in her life again.
"As a matter of fact, I did make quite some friends. And two of them are the second-years you attacked during the Welcoming Feast. It is hard not to gain new acquaintances when you join summer camp because you were running away from your emotionally manipulative parents, is it not?"
The words were coming out between her clenched teeth, now. Regina's hand clutched tightly at the strap of her satchel until her knuckles turn white, because she was restraining herself from reaching for her wand.
"My apologies for being so ridden with depression during two months of summer that you could simply not be my first priority," The Gryffindor rebel spat. "The first thing you thought of was to blame me for absent letters when you did not once stop to think there might be a valid reason for it? The world does not revolve around you, Faye. That is incredibly selfish."
Regina took a deep breath. She was already prepared to side-step the younger Ravenclaw, regardless if they resolved the misunderstanding or not. She was absolutely furious that Faye was attempting to control her the way her parents always did. She'd thought that of all people, the other girl would be the first to understand. Apparently not.
She couldn't deal with whatever delusion Faye was thinking of right now. It was much too early to get into detention for lighting something on fire.

โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ In her vindictive state, Faye didn't notice the telltale sign of a quiet Regina. She was too caught up in trying to prove herself, narrowing her eyes, looking up at the Gryffindor with all the stupidity confidence she could muster. There was a darkness tightening around her, slipping through her own breezy aura and tainting it with something far more sinister. Even as she was cornered, she kept her guard up, breathing through her nose in restrained bursts.
She wondered whether she should just give up now, regress back into the charade. She'd smile and apologise, eyes twinkling as she said sorry in that sing-song voice of hers, and everything would be alright again, she'd like her even more. As much as she wanted that to happen, The Ravenclaw still had that foolish idea of duality in depravity in her head and, no matter how hard her consciousness tried to stop it, it continued to grab her life by the reigns.
"Oh, moan, moan, moan. Expectation versus reality, amiright?"
What a stupid idea. She unfolded her arms and cocked her head to the side, pouting mockingly. Her voice suddenly became lighter, a manipulative version of its usual tone.
"Centering everything about yourself around your 'oh, I'm so dark! Look at me!' persona isn't original, you know." Faye batted her eyelashes, acting every ounce of the tainted lover, her eyes doing that exact twinkling to reel Regina back in. There was a pause, and she raised her eyebrows "I'm joking! Obviously!" The switch to lighthearted humour was effortless, with a pretty smile to go with. " Why worry about your parents when I'm here, and all those other acquaintances you made, hm?"
Her smile deepened, dripping with fake remorse. She held out a hand towards Regina, baby blue nails shining.
"Come on, Reg. It's me-"
The words trailed off as her mind processed Regina's words.
No. Don't say anything. If you say something now, you'll ruin everything again. Just keep it to yourself. Just-
"Why shouldn't it? Revolve around me? And not you for a change.." The words were barely more than a whisper.

It was only a split second. Only a tiny fraction of time where those orchid eyes darkened at the ironical tone coming out of the Ravenclaw's mouth in a tirade of what was essentially Faye mocking Regina's trauma.
"DO NOT TOUCH ME."
Only a split second was enough for Regina's voice to gain an octave and lash out in an incensed shout. The surrounding students all flinched, and the more morbidly curious ones had stopped in their tracks to gawk at the two fighting girls with whispers on their lips.
Regina took a step back from Faye's outstretched claws hands, ignored whatever the younger girl whispered and closed her eyes whilst mentally counting to ten. Old lessons. Reign it in. Do not let them see. Do not lose control.
Do not maim.
"I thought that out of everybody, you would be the only one to understand," Her voice had gone frighteningly calm. Regina opened her eyes, and this time, there was no emotion in them. It was as if she was back in first year, just a hurting girl who tried too hard to be unfazed and stoic. Faye had, quite possibly, forced Regina into a mind space she'd never wanted to return and it was unforgivable. "But it seems that we both had the wrong impression of one another."
She couldn't stay here. If she looked at the blond Ravenclaw any longer, she was going to reach for her wand for real. Regina knew that compared to her duelling skills, Faye couldn't hold a battle against her.
"This is how it's going to be. I am removing myself from this situation, because I need to get some breakfast in before attending to my classes. We are going to give each other space for a few days, you are going to leave me alone and so am I, until we both calm down and can talk civilly without saying or doing things we'll regret. Understand?"
It wasn't a suggestion nor a request. It was a demand.
Regina turned sideways and walked away from Faye without sparing her another glance. She couldn't even look at her right now. Her clenched fists were trembling from the sheer fury she tried to suppress.
She'd push this confrontation to the back of her mind. She had more important plans to put into motion for the time she needed to cool off.

โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ Faye yelped at the sudden shout, looking repelled at Regina's outburst. What had she done wrong? She'd done everything right, hadn't she? Her breaths were harsh, like she was gasping for air. The girl in front of her seemed scared, no, not scared. Why would she be scared of her? The facade was slipping now, she kept thinking and thinking about what could've gone wrong only for something much, much worse to happen. She was waning back into a scared young girl.
"No, no listen.. Reg, that's not what I meant, I-" She stammered, not sure herself whether she was putting on an act or not. She was just trying to deny everything. It was all a dream, right? It couldn't be a dream, because Regina stood before her, single handedly crushing those dreams.
Faye couldn't even look at her as she began talking again. Hazel eyes were fixed on the floor, darting over the cracks in the stone in a feeble attempt to get away from the confrontation. God, she looked like a little kid being scolded by her ma. She hated that. Gritting her teeth, she looked up at Regina, eyes blazing with hostility. Why did she always get the final say? Why did she get to tell her what to do?
No words came out of her mouth at the end. There was a string of foul things she could say, most of them blaming everything on Sophia, but she'd certainly learnt her lesson on staying quiet. The layers were coming away now, there was no mask at play, no ulterior motive, just a mardy girl who'd just had her personality exposed. She watched as Regina walked away, although repressed turning around.
She was becoming increasingly aware of the crowd forming, all gossiping to themselves. Probably about her. Sometimes love makes you do crazy things.
Faye huffed and flounced out the Small Hall in fury, heels clicking against the stones, shoving a group of first years out of her way in the process.
