Small Frogs in a Big Hall

Tala liked frogs, but even she had to admit that this had gotten a bit out of hand.
All throughout September, ever since Tala - Hogwarts' new Care of Magical Creatures professor - Polonius Frogge, Hogwarts' new school nurse, she had been fascinated by the idea of having a creature as a last name. Imagine how different life would have been if she had been named Tala Tiger, or something of the sort! Naturally, in Tala's mind, frogs had to be Nurse Frogge's favorite animal - there was no way he didn't like the hopping homies, four-legged familiars, croaking critters, riveting ribbeting r... well, she couldn't think of a noun that started with r, but anyway, they simply had to be the nurse's favorites. Tala had taken to keeping a frog, or even two some days, in her pocket, and she had proceeded to gift Polonius with frogs every time she saw him - at mealtimes, in the halls, etc. Sometimes random ones had shown up in the hospital wing at about the same time that Tala had been sighted nearby, though anyone who asked her exactly how the frogs had gotten there would have been met with a starry-eyed look of mischievous confusion. And then Polonius had complained that he had nowhere to store all of his new frogs, Tala had managed to sneak a large tank onto his desk in the Hospital Wing - big enough to store plenty of froggy friends.
But then, Tala had overheard Nurse Frogge make an offhanded comment about frog legs being used in potions, and she had had to complete a night rescue mission to make sure that none of the leaping lives would be sacrificed into healing potions. The frogs had been hidden in the stables for days now, and rather than release them into the Forbidden Forest or other places into the wild, it had occurred to Tala that it would be quite funny (and froggy) to release them by Polonius's feet during dinner on a Wednesday towards the end of September.
Except there were a lot more frogs than Tala had expected - a wave of probably about a hundred frogs was now hopping all around the Great Hall, sending students shrieking out of the room or jumping (very frog-like of them, Tala had to note) onto the benches, as if that would keep them safe from the springing, slimy souls who had finally tasted freedom. There was no way she was going to be able to catch all of those herself - but, luckily, her ever-present stash of Chocolate Frogs was right there in her satchel by her chair at the staff table, and in a flash, Tala had come up with a completely brilliant plan.
Clambering onto her chair, she shouted out over the clamor and ruckus: "They're just frogs! Not hard to catch at all!" Leaning down, she hefted the (now-empty) tank and her satchel onto the table; the latter tipped over, and a few boxed Chocolate Frogs - still complete with cards inside - spilled out, clattering against some leftover silverware. "I've got a pair of Chocolate Frogs for every student who catches a frog and brings it up here to the tank!"
Hopefully, the students would get over their fear of the slimy creatures and go to grab them...

Harper had heard all of the commotions and she looked just in time to see many students running away and shrieking. She has sort of doing the same until she heard Professor Takagi mention that there would be a pair of chocolate frogs in it for each student that brought her a runaway frog. At this, she jumped up from her scared and cowering position that she had taken without thinking and she started to run after the first frog that she saw. Surprisingly she found that it was pretty hard to chase after frogs. They were quicker at jumping than she had thought they were.
She ran across the Hall with her arms out and as she ran she talked to herself saying: "Here froggy, froggy.." Talking to the frog as she was chasing it likely didn't do anything at all but Harper didn't seem to care too much about that. She was solely focused on chasing the frog that always seemed to be a few hops in front of her. She would have to come up with a better with quicker solution to try and catch this frog because simply chasing it seemed to be an endless task that would get her no-where.. But what could she do it get the frog?

Small Frogs in a Big Hall
Who didn't like frogs?
Well, Sebastian couldn't help but wonder if perhaps George didn't much like frogs, he'd been grossed out by the Rosemary Beetle after all, but for the likes of a boy raised in rural England, on a homestead filled to the brim with nature? The events which took place in the Great Hall at dinner were utterly amazing.
Fiendish little frogs hopped this way and that, following fretting First Years and other such students who tried to flee in their wake. Contrary to most, Sebastian did not leap up onto a bench or make a run for the door, oh goodness no. Even before the Professor spoke up he was out of his seat and trying to catch one, or two, or perhaps even three, of the slimy buggers.
He'd been frog catching before, a great many times in fact, and he was now the proud owner of a wonderful spotted toad named Reed. If there was one thing he could do, it was snatch up bouncing balls of slime. Those AWOL amphibians stood no chance against the expertise of one Sebastian Sorrel!
Of course knowing how to catch them in the wild, with careful planning and precision, and snatching them up in the middle of so many other students, was an all together different task.
"Here, froggy froggy froggy..." the Badger lilted, following the springy trail of a frog he'd just spied hopping beneath the Ravenclaw bench, "I'm not gonna hurt you, little fella. I just don't want you trampled..."
That became much more of a concern when a Professor rose up and tried to steal the attention of the students. Even more so when the promise of chocolate frogs was made. Well, Sebastian didn't have much experience with such things, he'd never really tried any non-muggle treats yet, but since he was already looking for the frogs in the first place where was the harm?
With that in mind he scurried beneath the now vacant part of the Ravenclaw bench and cupped his hands around the space where a little green frog had previously been hiding. Of course, it was much quicker than he and it bounded away before his fingers had even begun to close.
"Oh, bugger," he mumbled to himself, concerned that he might have just blown his chance at keeping this particular creature away from the trampling feet of terrified teenagers. Soon enough his head popped back up from beneath the bench, and his eyes scoured the tabletop for something which could be of use.
Then he spied it: a bowl. He grabbed it and upturned it, quite dismissive of whatever contents it had previously been holding, and then turned to look for the green guy again. He spied it hopping back across toward the Hufflepuff table, and with a soft intake of breath he braced himself.
"C'mon Sol... It's just a frog."
Just a frog indeed. With his new tool in hand he carefully followed the critter, no doubt finding himself in the way of others as he crawled about on the floor, and waited for the right moment. Sure enough it came to a stop, and perched slap center beneath the table. Another slow breath quieted his mind, and he raised the bowl.
The frog croaked, licked its eye, then made to move. Though it saw Sebastian's approach, and was quick to spring forth, it hadn't anticipated the bowl which was dropped from on high. With a clatter the critter was caught beneath the pewter dish, and Sebastian set one hand firmly on top to keep it from shimmying free.
A loud huff of an exhale followed, and he slumped back while avoiding hitting his head on the table. One frog down, at least one more to go he reckoned.
It took him a little while longer to have his hands full with his two frogs. Part of him felt bad for even considering handing them off to someone else, after all he could take pretty good care of them himself right? But the frogs weren't his, and he already had a pet to take care of, so he did the responsible thing and carried them up to the front of the Great Hall where the Head Table sat.
Sebastian seemed a little sullen as he extended both hands out and offered the frogs to Professor Takagi. "What are you going to do with them?" he asked, with clear concern in his tone. This was the Care of Magical Creatures Professor, he reminded himself. If anyone was fit to take care of a bunch of frogs it was her. And maybe, when he was old enough to attend her class, Sebastian would be able to one day too.
Still, it sucked to let them go.

────────────────────── ㅤ
ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | It was September. The start of the fall season and yet it was still so hot outside. As a result, Kim was still wearing summer clothes. Currently, the white haired boy was wearing a long sleeve, open shoulder white shirt and a pair of black slacks. Lately, he'd been choosing white outfits, perhaps to match his white hair of the month? He'd also been partial to the hoop earrings and of course continued to wear his pride bracelet. But his necklaces, rings and other bracelets tended to change on a regular basis to suit the outfit, event or his mood at the time. Kim was only starting his second year at Hogwarts and it had already started off with a bang within the first few days. This year would be rather eventful. It was then that Puffie squeaked. Right. He couldn't forget about him, his beloved pink pygmy puff he'd rescued. This year, Kim intended on giving Puffie all of his attention. After all, he didn't know how much time the puffball had left to live. He'd already survived longer than most of his kind and that was a miracle. Kim couldn't help but smile as he glanced up at Puffie, who was looking at the people gathered together in the room. He'd realized Puffie's chirps were when he was happy and his squeaks were different. Puffie had two types of chirps and five types of squeaks. A high chirp meant he was in high spirits and a low chirp meant he was looking for some love from the boy. As for squeaks... a low squeak meant he was disgruntled about something or someone. An extremely high squeak was when he was feeling outrage or concern. A high squeak was when he was experiencing happiness. A low squeak represented sadness. And a normal squeak was for greetings and general things. It was kind of amusing though to come into the great hall and find countless frogs hopping around all over the floor. What on earth was this all about? Kim didn't think they were all pets of students, there were too many of them. Many were shrieking at the poor frogs. Kim wasn't sure why though, it wasn't as if they were cats... He'd also never heard of anyone being allergic to frogs, so why were they freaking out so much about it? Puffie seemed to be amused as he started bouncing on top of Kim's shoulder and squeaked a few times. The puff's eyes darted this way and that way as he watched the proceedings. Thankfully, he was being well behaved and didn't try and hop off his shoulder and go after any of the frogs. It was around this time that someone got up onto a chair and shouted an announcement out to everyone. Ah, so that was what it was. Kim glanced down at his satchel, the normal one, as he tended to switch between his regular and enchanted ones. He already had a ton of frogs in there. But who could resist getting more? Kim shrugged and glanced around the general area. He could see a ton of frogs hopping this way and that and students either trying to avoid them, or trying to catch them. Kim watched until he found a part of the room where no one currently was and went over to catch some frogs for the unfortunate professor. The boy set Puffie down on the ground and pointed at the frogs, using his hands to try and get the creature to understand him. Kim wasn't sure if he did or not but hopefully he could make use of his pet to help him. Cornering a frog, Kim advanced on it. It started to hop away and Kim nodded to Puffie, who bounced towards the frog, which was a rather hilarious sight. One was bouncing and the other was hopping, while Kim was attempting to pounce. Kim and Puffie working together managed to finally corner the frog in question. And Kim launched himself forward to grasp the frog in his hands, capturing it between his palms. "Success, Puffie!" He told his pet with a grin and then headed up to where the professor was. "Where do I put it? Do you want it in the tank?" Kim asked, curious. She probably did, right? "You going to be doing some frog experiments or something, is that why you have all these frogs? Or will you be teaching students about frogs?" He inquired, curious about why she'd brought them. Into the great hall of all places. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────
actions: Kim catches a frog and asks the professor where to put it and wonders why she brought frogs inside. notes: From now on, Kim will refer to himself as Kim Aoki and won't answer to those who call him 'Sato'. Of course, if they don't know about his new last name, he'll give them a chance by telling them about the change first. Quinn was eating her dinner like any other normal day. Only this dinner had a shocking surprise... Frogs. Lots of frogs. Hoping everywhere, people freaking out because of said frogs. She was at first going to ignore them, and finish her dinner. To go back to the common room.
That was her plan, but she heard the care of magical creatures teacher y'all something. "I've got a pair of Chocolate Frogs for every student who catches a frog and brings it up here to the tank!". Challenge excepted. She got up from her seat and quickly set her sites on a little frog that had itself set up by the slytherin table.
"Come here you little frog..." she quietly called for the frog. She moved closer to the frog staying low. She was about a foot away before the frog hoped away. She expected this to happen... It was a small frog. Quinn was much larger then it, no wonder it would be afraid!
She wouldn't give up that easily. She got down lower, so that she was on the floor. She would slowly start crawling to the frog, until it was time to strike. She needed to go nice and slow if she wan too catch a frog. She probably looked a bit stupid crawling on the floor. She didn't care, all that was in the room where her and the frog. Crawling ever so slowly she almost had the little sucker in her grasp. Before again he hoped away.
She started to get just the slightest bit upset it was just a small frog? Why was he so much trouble to grab!? She would give this tiny little thing one last chance. But she wouldn't be just as nice. She was not on the ground now but on her knees hands positioned to grab him.
She spotted him, and pounced. She had caught him! "er- what? I just had him!!" she whined. When she had looked to see him there the frog was gone. Must have somehow slipped through her fingers... She saw the frog just starting at her. She would promise this thing was messing with her. "Fine. Be like that, if you escape from me one more time... I will have no choice but to get my cat!!" she yelled at the frog.

Colin had been feeling down the last few days. Not because of school or anything. Mostly he was missing Liam. A lot. He still felt guilty about not going back to St. Mungos to try and help his twin. He sighed as he finished up the food on his plate. And Clair had turned down his invitation to go to the Ball with him. He wasn't mad at her or anything --- well, he was kind of mad at himself for not asking sooner. It's not like they were really --- together --- yet and it's not like he hadn't heard his classmates talking about asking girls or boys to go. It was just that, while he found Clair so nice to talk to, sometimes he felt inadequate. Like she wouldn't like him. And so he put off asking until it was too late. It was his fault that that plan had gotten messed up!
What he really needed now was some kind of adventure to take him out of himself. Just something fun to ---
Colin raised his head, wondering what all the commotion was. Someone squeaked over at the Gryffindor table and a few kids were jumping up onto the benches. Several others seemed to be entertained by the reaction, but to what?
That was soon answered by an older student who explained that, while Colin was moping, Professor Takagi pointed out all the frogs that had been set loose in the Hall and that she'd give out a chocofrog or two to any student who could round up a real frog and bring it to the High Table!
Colin looked around in wonder! He saw that Kim Aoki and Lily Blaze had already rescued a number of frogs, and by the look of it, so had Quinn and a Hufflepuff boy. That one didn't seem to want to give his frog up! He laughed as Kim and Puffie chased after a frog. This looked like so much fun, like just the thing he needed this evening!
"Good job Tigerlily! That was quick! I'm gonna snag a couple froggos too!" he said to Lily as he hopped up onto the bench to see if he could find a hunting partner! He thought about Keith Moore. He was a bonny lad and they'd gone running around together a few times. Colin looked around. "Ach, laddie! How hard can it be to find a green grass haired kid in this place?" he said. He set his hands around his mouth to make a megaphone: "Heyo Keith!! Laddie are you here! Let's hunt some frogs!"

𝓐lmost a month had passed by since the young first-year Ravenclaw student known as Alora Shendrow had made the journey to start her education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With countless new experiences noted since her arrival to the ancient castle the young blonde was still struggling with adjusting to her new-found student life, however, she was also completely enjoying her first month of study.
Sorted into the house known for its creativity and studious nature the blonde couldn’t have imagined how after the first day of travel up to the school itself that new things would be equally as fascinating each and every day of her school life. Halfway through another week of classes the young girl had finished her last class of the day around 5pm and made her way towards the great hall for dinner after a study session at the library. With plans stuck in her head of all of the tasks that she hoped to get completed that evening including writing a letter home to her family to keep them up to date with the happenings of her life nothing could have prepared her for the fun and frolics the night ahead would have in store.
Seated at her house table alongside countless other students enjoying her final meal of the day before the student curfew would become set in stone the blonde raises her goblet of juice to her lips when from the corner of her eye an unexpected vision comes into view. With a mouthful of juice her attention is drawn to a sudden commotion located at the top table where the professors usually join the students for dinner as hundreds of frogs descend into the hall from the feet of the school nurse.
The hall instantly erupts into a state of panic and laughter as the countless frogs hop erratically around the hall, Alora hears the declaration announced by the brunette professor of Magical Creatures as she offers a pair of chocolate frog cards for every student who helped to catch the frogs to tidy up the mess and chaos that was occurring within the walls of Hogwarts. Sighing with a light chuckle, Alora rises to her feet taking off her long-sleeved robes folding them neatly to place them on the bench securely before stretching herself out ready to help out the professor after all this certainly wasn’t the first frog that she herself had caught. Being raised on a farm in the middle of the Irish countryside definitely had its benefits when it came to dealing with animals of any kind and frogs were no different. For not many knew of the small pond within the grounds of her home that the young blonde used to spend time with on a daily basis looking after the countless fish and amphibians that called it their home.
Frogs needed a varied diet to survive and with their skin acting as a breathing mechanic, Alora knew just what to do and how to handle them safely without causing damage to the creature in any way. Looking around the table for anything suitable that could be used to entice the frogs toward her in a feeding manner Alora struggled to locate any form of insects or worms, however, there were some cooked fish in the dinner that evening. “Not perfect but it will have to do” the young girl sighs to herself before taking one of the cooked fillet’s breaking it up into smaller consumable pieces.
Quietly and gently approaching the nearest frog the girl would kneel down and gently place a piece of fillet ahead of her calling out quietly “Come on take the bait” as she waited patiently for the frog to see the piece of fish so she’d be able to safely catch it. Seconds would turn into minutes and finally the frog began to eat reaching out her hands in the frogs direction and catching it from behind unexpectedly she swiftly transferred it into her handkerchief to prevent her from touching its skin before heading across to the teacher of magical creatures passing her the frog before continuing on with her routine of catching frogs that become known to her until the great hall is free from hopping madness thanks to the students and staff banding together to save the day.

Small Frogs in a Big Hall
Athena was chewing on a stiff peice of chicken when, to her dismay, a swarm of frogs was released, and the shrieking began. A wave of students fought to make it to the door, trapping Athena inside it. She was pushed back into the great hall, to be with the students who still remained. Feeling trapped and disgusted in the room full of frogs, Athena went to the corner of the room that seemed to have the least students, and frogs. She wrapped her arms around her legs and then she heard it.
I've got a pair of Chocolate Frogs for every student who catches a frog and brings it up here to the tank!” A teacher said. She perked up. She hadn’t yet been able to sneak into hogsmeade, so she was chocolate frogless. A little candy for catching a few frogs? Sure seemed like a fair trade to her. Looking around she could see many people were beginning the task and she jumped in, surprised at how much they were skittering. She turned with her hand outstretched just in time to catch a leaping frog. She quickly shrieked and dropped it, hating the way the warty frog skin felt on her hands. She was going to have to wash her hands three hundred times before she would be ready to leave the bathroom later. She cursed at herself and dropped to all fours, trapping a frog under her left hand. She fought herself to keep her hand down as she wanted so badly to get as far away possible from the frog. She curled her fingers around it not so gently and the frogs eyes bulged, way more than they should’ve. The frog would most likely be dead by the time she made it to the tank.WC: 302

Small Frogs in a Big Hall
Keith was happy to go to dinner and get the day over with. All day he had paid attention in class and tried his hardest, and it was exhausting. He just wanted to go eat and go to bed.
He made his way to the Great Hall, and out of nowhere he felt something, he wasn't sure what it was, but something was going to happen, not a terrible thing, but something was going to happen. He walked until he reached the Great Hall.
Keith walked in and sat near the edge of the table, where he normally sat unless someone asked him to sit somewhere else. Sometimes he sat with a third-year he knew, other times he sat alone. Today was one of those days he wanted to sit alone. He looked around the table, saw his dormmates, then he looked around the room. There was Colin, and Kim was there, he didn't notice anyone else, so he turned back towards the food, and looked at his options. Chicken tenders were all that stood out to him, so he grabbed a few pieces, and got some green beans. He sipped on his drink and enjoyed his food when he heard screaming from all directions, and something hopped on his lap.
"Well hello! I wasn't expecting this to happen, who do you guys belong to?" Keith calmly said, he loved animals. He carefully picked up the frog. Then he heard someone call to him.
It was Colin! Keith walked up to the boy, "Hey, look at him! It's he cute?" He held the frog up so Colin could see. "Come on we have to catch more!" Keith said excitedly.

Small Frogs in a Big Hall

"WOOOT!" There were so many frogs in the hall that Colin had no idea which way to turn first! One frog leapt between his legs, making for the doors at the far end of the hall, and another hopped along the table plashing in and out of people's water goblets and a third one, that had somehow gotten into his hair, clambered down onto his shoulder and sang into his ear: "Crrreebeek! Crrreebeek! Crrreebeek!"
"YEEP!" Colin wasn't expecting such a loud sound almost inside his ear! He leapt in surprise, turning towards the sound! He looked down at the last second, but his feet weren't where they were supposed to be! He was crashing! Colin reached up to protect the frog from being hurt, but his legs were on either side of the bench and he was still falling! With a sickening thunk the edge of the bench caught Colin right in the crotch! "Urk!" The frog was still singing happily into his ear and Colin let out a soft moan as if in accompaniment. His pond scum green eyes crossed and Colin collapsed onto the cool flagstones of the floor.
There Colin lay for several minutes, feeling nauseated and weak. A second frog hopped onto his face and began a duet with the first frog. Thoughts of kissing frogs and turning them into princesses flitted through Colin's pain wracked mind; though he eventually slid out from under the table. He heard the voice of a friend approaching, his footsteps now becoming familiar. His uncrossed and looked up to see Keith standing over him.
"Hey, look at him! It's he cute?" Keith said excitedly. He held the frog so Colin could see.
Colin managed to get up, and the second frog took up its post on Colin's other shoulder. He stood rather more delicately than usual, but managed to get a good look at Keith's frog. He moaned again. Keith seemed to be oblivious. He said hoarsely: "Oh, that's bloody brilliant lad!"
"Come on we have to catch more!" Keith said with just as much excitement as before.
Colin was feeling a little better. His stomach was settled again --- but he felt like certain other bits would never be the same again. Aye! He remembered now --- gotta hunt frogs with Keith! He took a deep breath, gave himself a wee shake and, showing Keith the two frogs he'd gotten, secured them in his robe pocket. "Right! You'll need to be quick to keep up lad!" He took the younger boy into a quick hug before setting off to catch another frog!
