Outfit: Gryffindor uniform, with her family's crest clipped on the lapel of her outer robes.
𝓡egina gently dipped her red phoenix feather quill into her glass inkwell, tapping it lightly to get rid of any excessive liquid before returning to her DADA assignment. As elegant cursive words flowed across the parchment, she allowed the gentle sounds of turning book pages and quiet murmurs of other students to fade into a pleasant hum in the background, a great fuel for her concentration. It was one of many reasons why she favoured working on her homework in the Library, where loud noises were forbidden and rowdy pupils avoided. Another factor was also the endless rows of books that lined the tall wooden shelves. Regina supposed she could be considered a bookworm because of how much time she spent devouring knowledge from those pages, though the adjective was so commonly...Muggle that she did not enjoy being associated as such. The term 'voracious reader' was much preferred.

A few minutes later, the youngest Miller Heiress had temporary left her spot on the bench and ventured through the bookshelves instead, searching for reference books that would allow her to research on the subject of her essay. She already had two relatively large manuals balanced carefully in her left arm as her right hand gently traced each and every spine, orchid eyes scanning the titles until she'd found what she was looking for. Her extended finger came to a stop when she stumbled upon a mulberry worn cover, golden letters shimmering gracefully in the faint light filtering through the windows. Biblio Arcana: A Study In The Arcane Arts by Jared Lightwolf. It wasn't quite what Regina needed for her homework, but the curiosity soon won over as she picked it off of the shelf. Never let it be said that the raven-haired Gryffindor wasn't thirsty for any bit of newfound knowledge she could get her hands on.

Regina strolled back to her table, placing the books down and taking out fresh new parchments to begin working on the awaiting essay. She pulled on the long sleeves of her outer robes for better movement, making sure her aspen wand was still tucked neatly under the sleeve of her white uniform shirt--a habit that she'd taken up in order to always be on guard against the unexpected. People liked to believe Hogwarts was the safest place for students, but Regina saw beyond the inconspicuous image of the castle. One could never predict what may happen along this walls.

Everly found herself in the Library frequently these days. Sometimes it was just to finish some homework or curl up in the armchairs to delve into a new book that had captured her attention, or find someone new to talk to. Nowadays, she liked to pride herself on her ability to talk to others, whether it be true or false. When she'd first come to Hogwarts, she'd been the complete opposite, but that was a thing of the past - she was different now, and that was a good thing.

It did occur every so often that she just wanted to slink away into a small corner, by herself, without anyone else. On some days, when she just felt so not herself- though, she wasn't sure which part of her was really Everly, if that even existed.

Today was one of those days where she'd been teetering between the two worlds. She'd woken up far too early for her liking, and immediately she'd figured that she wouldn't be able to sleep again. Due to her immaculate reasoning, she'd been extremely tired throughout all her classes, barely being able to focus. Throughout the day, her enthusiasm began to grow, however, and now, she found herself in the Library, attempting to finish her homework.

Keyword: attempting.

A few minutes in, she'd already decided that she wasn't going to be able to get this done, so she'd skimmed the shelves for something worthwhile, a title that looked somewhat interesting. Within minutes, she was resting comfortably, legs crossed as she perched over the edge to read the book held in her hand.

After switching reading positions five times, Everly realized she wouldn't be able to focus on this book, either, much less her homework, so it was time for Occupation 3: Bother Someone™.

It wasn't long before she found an appropriate target: a little moody girl who seemed to be hard at work on her essay. Her head was down, so Everly wasn't able to recognize she knew her or not, though she supposed it didn't really matter. Wonderful.

"Hellooo!" Everly casually slid into the seat across from her, with a small wave. "I'm Everly. Who're you? Nice essay. Do I know you?"

𝕿he instant another voice directly across the bench had spoken up, Regina felt her left eyebrow twitch with irritation. Her burgundy phoenix quill made a stop mid-sentence on the parchment as purple eyes snapped to the girl whom had so blatantly inserted herself into Regina's personal bubble and ruin the peace she zealously needed to focus on her essay. With a cold and calculative look, she assessed the other female (Everly, as she had introduced, though Regina wasn't going to address her by her first name anytime soon) to be one of her Housemates--judging by the red accents on the lapels of her robes--and she remembered seeing her face fleetingly during classes--another second-year then--even though her brown hair and eyes weren't enough of a distinctive feature to stand out.

Ignoring the less than eloquent speech aside, Regina noticed not any mannerism that indicated this unwanted presence to be a bumbling Muggleborn or an unsavoury Half-blood. She wasn't certain if she'd ever seen this 'Everly' in passing during many Pureblood gatherings she'd attended with her parents, but at least the brunette seemed to hold herself with confidence. Enough to shamelessly bother a complete stranger in the library, it seemed. The audacity of some people.

"No, you do not, for I usually never associate myself with someone so utterly ill-mannered," The Heiress drawled icily. "And my name is Regina Miller. I'd much prefer we remain on last name basis as I do not recall ever interacting with you before."

Having said her bit, the raven-haired Gryffindor redirected her undivided attention back to her homework, deciding not to humour the other girl any further. She had much more important things to tend to than to socialise with somebody who had discourteously disrespected her studious time. Regina resumed the phrase she had left off, expecting 'Everly' to read the room and leave her alone. She'd encountered this sort of interaction many times in the past, where people mistook her for a welcoming person as they struck a conversation. The notion was laughable and Regina had wasted no time in proving them right--nobody would tolerate being ignored, after all, and it generally irked them enough for them to stop conversing with her entirely.

Hopefully the other Lion would soon to see the signs.

Regina (as the girl had lovingly introduced herself)- no, she could do better. Re-gin- perfect, Everly's new nickname for her new friend was Gin. Like the drink, but better.

Gin seemed delighted to meet Everly (as she should be). When Gin finally looked up, Everly frowned slightly as she examined the other Gryffindor's face. "I know you." Something looked familiar, though she couldn't quite place it. Gin talked with the same snobbiness and uptightness as many other purebloods did, so Everly assumed that she'd probably seen Gin at a pureblood event before- no, that didn't seem right. Where was this girl from?

Maybe they were related somehow? Her family tree was extremely complicated, she knew. Everly wasn't sure about much outside of her immediate family, except for people like Ivy or Violet. It had been becoming a regular thing over summer break, people she didn't know were arriving at their manor every other week. Everly didn't recognize them, and they didn't recognize Everly, but they were related. At least, that's what her mother told her.

Everly didn't have time to ponder on it too long though. Gin had much more to say, all of which she listened to intently. She grinned brightly when Gin had finally finished her speech/rant, leaning forward over the table to prop herself up. "That sounds fun, Gin!" After a moment's pause, Everly realized Gin still didn't know how she'd gotten the name Gin - surprise surprise, not everyone could read minds. "Gin, you know? 'Cause, Regina? Gin?"

"Oh, that's very nice," Everly said, in response to Gin's little declaration of how she refused to call Everly Everly. (Really, that seemed stupid. If they were going to be friends, then obviously, Gin would have to call her Everly. Unless it was a special case, Everly thought first names were much more welcoming.) "I'd prefer you call me Everly, though."

Everly's small frown developed again as she went back to scouring her brain for any reminder of who she was and where she might recognize the other girl. Her eyes were a prominent signal, she figured - eerie violet eyes. Everly definitely wouldn't forget that, if they'd met before.

"... Huh. Your eyes. They're weird, but I don't remember them. That's odd," she said, tilting her head.

𝕽egina froze when the first three words were spoken from Everly's mouth. She lifted her head once more and assessed the other Gryffindor girl again, only this time with more attention whilst simultaneously searching within her memory of the countless Pureblood faces she'd seen and been introduced to at gathering socialite events. Everly's features were terribly common, but there was still something there poking at the back of her mind...

Throughout Regina's childhood, she'd been taught to always remember important figures within the high wizarding society. They were all connected to each other one way or another, and the most favoured were betrothals. This led to numerous Purebloods descendants being related either closely or distantly, and Regina had a nagging suspicion of this being the reason Everly even felt like she knew her at all.

"So you claim...but I never forget a face. Perhaps your last name would jog my memory," The ravenette said, before grimacing. "And do not address me with such an unflattering name."

Regina didn't miss the way Everly seemed to be staring intently at her eyes, and she almost expected the question before it was even spoken. An elegant brow raising was the only reaction to Everly's thought about the colour of her irises being weird--that was certainly something Regina hadn't heard before. She'd received compliments, and even the occasional 'eerie' being thrown around, but not 'weird'. The Heiress did not know whether she should take an offense to it or not, and if she was feeling charitable enough to explain why she was born with eyes like these. The girl was beginning to grate on her nerves, and she needed this homework done by tonight at the very least.

"It is rude to stare and comment on other people's distinctive features," Regina drawled, unimpressed. She was starting to lose interest in the meaningless conversation. "Did you need something? If not, I would prefer to redirect my priceless attention to something much more important."

Honestly, she was starting to question if she had a magnet for troublesome people. Meeting that whimsical airhead from Ravenclaw and suffering the stubborn never-ending letters weren't enough, apparently, now Merlin had decided to push this annoying Gryffindor into Regina's life too. It was ridiculous, but it was also concerning, because the ravenette knew it was changing something fundamental within her.

Everly paid little attention to Gin's words as she gently shut the book beside her, turning to focus on the violet-eyed girl across from her. Now she was invested in this conversation—it was going to be much harder to get rid of her at this point. Gin was in for one hell of a conversation.

Everly figured that Gin was probably some pureblood she'd seen around, though that didn't sit right. She was sure there was something more than that, though she wouldn't be able to find out more until she could confirm with her parents. There wasn't much she could find in the school library, after all. They were probably, like, long-lost estranged sixth cousins or something. Though she wasn't sure how Gin would feel about that, she was perfectly fine with welcoming another into their family presence.

She'd never encountered someone before with similar purple eyes, though, not as far as she could remember. Besides Gin, obviously. Maybe that was another family trait? Though no one she knew in her family had violet eyes. That would be pretty cool, though, she had to admit, if she had violet eyes. It wasn't a common trait, though, but besides the distinctive eyes, it was hard to place Gin apart from others. Of course, Everly's terrible memory wasn't doing her any favors, but even she could probably remember certain colored eyes.

"Mm," she hummed, prying her eyes away from Gin's gaze. "No, no, of course. Am I bothering you?" Maybe if it was one she recognized, she could piece together how she recalled Gin. "What's your family name?" If it weren't by blood relation, then maybe—somehow—through the messes that were pureblood relations. There was probably a good chunk of purebloods at Hogwarts that she didn't know she was related to. Maybe Gin was one of them.

"Even if I said you were bothering me, would you stop?" Regina grumbled under her breath, then cleared her throat and lifted her head to finally look at the other girl properly. "And I already gave you my family name earlier. It's Miller. Is your memory truly that deplorable?"

She was aware her words came out meaner than usual, but this 'Everly' was getting on her nerves. Regina had never liked socialising, especially when she could be devoting her time on so many more productive things - like studying and finishing her assignments. Although, there was something about the way Everly stared at her that didn't quite sit right with Regina - like she was trying to examine some sort of strange specimen.

Must be my eyes, she thought. The Miller Heiress was no longer unfamiliar with people's curiosity of them. She was aware their colour was unnatural, and she could understand why it attracted attention. A recessive gene from her deceased Grandmother, a talented Potions Mistress who was poisoned by one of her own crafts during an experiment gone wrong during the early stages of her career and tainting her eyes purple. It just so happened to be Regina who would be born with the same pair of eyes years later.

But no, it couldn't be the sole reason. Now that Regina was looking at Everly properly, she felt a distinct memory tickling at the back of her mind. And then it hit her at once - Everly's last name was Charlton, because of the classes they shared together and how the Professors addressed her. The Charltons were another wealthy Pureblood family who attended her oldest brother's - Rupert Miller - betrothal party to the daughter of the Silversteins just three years ago. If she remembered correctly, their daughter was -

"You...you are related to Audrey Silverstein, are you not?" A rare emotion of surprise appeared on Regina's face. "She is my brother's betrothed and my future sister-in-law...she mentioned having first cousins who are my age."

And that...that would make them...cousins by marriage. She was bloody related to Everly Charlton.

Off-screen conclusion: after both of them had discovered their in-law relation, Everly had decided from then on that she'd stubbornly tear down Regina's prickly exterior to form a friendship between them through more encounters and, in the end, she'd become one of Regina's first inner circle companions.
