The shopping experience in the wizarding world was really different from shopping in the Muggle world. Everything was just so magical, it was like the things she read only from fantasy books came to life. Her mother had to work at the Flower shop and her grandmother was visiting an old friend in Scotland, so today it was just Ash and her stepdad buying school supplies in the Diagon Alley.

“Alright, looks like we pretty much have everything we need from the list.”, Ash said while looking at her list to make sure if they missed anything. “Hmm, are you sure about that? I think you still lack one very important thing.” Her stepdad said with a smirk. Ash looked up at him, confused. “What is it that I still lack?”, she asked.

“You see, every wizard and witch needs a companion.” He said to his stepdaughter, and waited for her reaction. “Oh my god! Am I going to get my own pet!?” Not just any normal pet, but a pet she’s going to get from a magical pet shop! “Exactly! Follow me, I’ll show you where the pets are. The shop is right at the other side of the corner.”

It only took a few minutes to arrive at the pet store called “Magical Menagerie”, quite an interesting name, Ash thought to herself. When both of them entered the store, a friendly old shopkeeper greeted them, “Welcome to Magical Menagerie, are you here to buy a pet?”

“Hello, Mr. Witticker. Yes, for my lovely daughter here. She’s going to be a first year at Hogwarts this September.” Her stepdad said to the owner proudly. And Ash just nodded with a smile. “Oh my, that’s wonderful!” An old lady appeared from behind the counter and was bringing a plate of sugar cookies towards them. “Would you like a sugar cookie, young lady? I baked them this morning.” Ash would never refuse a free dessert, she picked a sugar cookie and quickly thanked the nice old lady.

“Then I’ll show you the pets we have here, and decide one on your own later.”, said Mr. Witticker. Ash turned to her stepdad, and he made a gesture implying that he would wait for her while chatting with Mrs. Witticker.

In the Magical Menagerie, there were really a lot of cool pets, like the majestic owls, the elegant snakes, the friendly lizards, the feisty spiders, the quirky frogs, the intelligent rats, the adorable bunnies, and carefree goldfishes. At first, Ash was very interested in the colorful, fluffy creatures called Pygmy Puffs. However, she would like to show her Muggle friends her pet companion, so it could be weird to show them a creature they have never seen before. That wouldn’t be allowed according to the law in the wizarding if she recalled correctly, which is a shame to be honest.

Ash did think deeply for a moment of what kind of companion would she want, it would be nice to have a companion to cuddle sometimes and bond with each other. Suddenly, she felt something soft rubbing on her ankle. When Ash looked down to see what it was, she saw it was a small gray-furred kitten, perhaps a few months old, stared at her with bright orange eyes and started to meow at her a few times as if it wanted to be picked up by her.

“This is certainly interesting, this little fella used to be quite timid towards strangers, but it seemed to like you very much.” Mr. Witticker said. “Really?”, Ash went to pick it up and looked at the little kitten’s eyes. “This kitten is a female Chartreux. They are well-known to be sweet and gentle, and they do make very good companions.”, Mr. Witticker explained to her.

“Ash, did you finally decide on a pet?”, her stepdad just saw her having a kitten in her arms and had a feeling she might want this cat as her pet. “Yes, I did.”, Ash answered. She looked at the kitten with a happy smile, and it meowed back at her as if it was agreeing with her. “Starting today, you’ll be my companion, Olive.”
