Even though the commentary was fantastic for last round of quaffle grabs, only Ravenclaw sent someone after the quaffle this time around. You’d think that Yilbegän had enough players on the field to sacrifice one to quaffle grabs, but apparently they didn’t. Only Winnie from Ravenclaw was going for the quaffle, while Edme from Ravenclaw was flying around Ravenclaw’s hoops hoping to guard. However, with no Yilbegän player going for the quaffle, Edme would see no action on her side of the field.

The quaffle game was all Winnie’s, however, one her first attempt she failed at even catching it. Maybe she was distracted by the aura coming off of her team’s seeker, or maybe she was distracted at the bubbles that the audience kept producing. Either way she missed the quaffle and the commentator loved it. “The quaffle is up and only Whinny from Ravenclaw is going for it. What a bore, why couldn’t one of those Durmstrang boys have gone after it. Hold up - Winnie does not grab the quaffle, HA HA TAKE THAT WINNIE!”

Winnie must recovered from her mistakes because she quickly grabbed the quaffle and scored two more times. With no one guarding her, it looked like such an easy task. “Winnie has grabbed the quaffle, and scored. 10 points to Ravenclaw. Come on Koldovstoretz can’t you just send someone to watch the hoops. She grabs the quaffle again and is quick to score once more, 10 points to Ravenclaw, they have now taken the lead.”

On her fourth quaffle attempt, she grabbed it but proceeded to miss the unguarded hoop. There was no one there right? No invisible people secretly guarding? If there was a secret member, they had stopped Winnie from scoring three in a row. Lazarus was sad because he could only talk about Winnie and that caused his commentary to lose its bright right to it. “Winnie has grabbed the quaffle. How fun. One of these days she’ll make her parents proud. Winnie shoots and completely misses! Now that is a move I can get behind! Keep missing Winnie!”

For the last quaffle attempt, Winnie made quick work of it with a simple grab and score. “10 points for Ravenclaw. Winnie scored again. Now Ravenclaw is ahead by 20 points. I’m disappointed in you Durmstrangians. You just gave her thirty free points.”

With very minimal players remaining on brooms, Ravenclaw had seemingly taken another round off of the attacking. However, Yilbegän was still going for blood. It seemed as though they were continuing their goal of knocking every single Ravenclaw player off of their broom.

Romeo was up first with his terrifying bat that struck damage with every hit. This time was no different, he aimed the bludger at the young girl Edme who had just entered the field. Not 5 minutes into her time playing, she was knocked off her broom by the bludger Romeo hit. The bludger ricocheted at Ravenclaw’s seeker, River. She would try and hold on tightly to her broom but there was no point, the bludger quickly knocked her out and sent her unconscious body to the ground. “Romeo our favorite killer beater is at it once more! He aims the bludger towards the girl Edme and it hits! She has been knocked off her broom, we might want a medic down there she didn’t look to strong. As per usual the bludger has ricocheted at River! It hits and down River goes! Almost like downstream on a river, get it? Ha ha. Romeo is unstoppable taking out competitors left and right.”

Charles’s blatch did not go nearly as well as Romeo’s bludger. Charles had started to attempt and blatch Winnie, but midway through it appeared he backed off. Perhaps he was affected by the same aura that had plagued Winnie earlier. Either way, the referee had noticed the attempted blatch and sent him on another penalty lap. “What is Charles doing? Is he - Oh no not again. Come on Charles I liked you. The ref saw that attempt, go take another lap. I’ve got to pick a different favorite chaser, I’m not sure I can keep supporting cheaters.”

Why three people were on a broom no one knew, but Madhup was going to take advantage of it and blatch them. Riding in Damion’s broom; Damion, Sylvain, and Jorah were on a mission to return to their respected brooms, yet they didn't make it there before Madhup went in for the blatch. Swiftly Madhup knocked the three of them off the broom without even alerting the referee. He was very stealthy and maybe too good at getting away with being a cheater, how could someone miss three people falling at once. “WOAH! THE THREESOME JUST FELL OFF THEIR BROOM! ALL THREE OF THEM ARE TUMBLING TO THE GROUND. I didn’t see who did it and the ref didn’t call anything. They must have just agrued and pushed each other off the broom. The Ravenclaw graveyard on the ground is increasing rapidly, only one of them remain in the sky with two on the bench.”

The snitch was worth 150 points, and it was clear that Valentin wanted it, no needed it. Instead of participating in the case phase of the snitch process, Valentin opted for an Alley oop. The chance of him grabbing the snitch was greatly reduced since it involved the help of another player on their team. Edward was that player. He grabbed ahold of Valentin’s broom and heroically threw him towards the snitch. In spite of Edwards efforts, Valentin did not catch the snitch, not this time.

Before plummeting down with the rest of her team, River would search for the snitch and come up short once again.

“The scrawny little boy Edward has thrown his seeker Valentin across the field! Has Durmstrang spotted something that Ravenclaw hasn’t, or is this just an elaborate plan? I can’t see the snitch, but I’ve already established at the end of this I’m getting a new set of glasses.”

Edward grabbed the end of Val’s broom and flung him at the snitch in an alley-oop.

For Val few thrills compared to being shot at higher speeds than his broom could attain alone, but now he was also blazing towards the snitch at the end of the most anticipated game of his life. This was the critical moment, after all his racked up heartache– a chance at redemption after two years of failure, and the crucible for rekindling his self-worth and reclaiming Durmstrang's undefeated title. Why, then, why couldn’t Val open his outstretched hand?

The crack of a bat and its ricochet ripped through Valentin’s mind. Like thunder reverberating off a canyon wall, the second clap came muffled, but still quite like the first. Valya told himself not to take his eyes from the snitch. He was going at ludicrous speed. He had to watch the golden flicker, had to sense his distance from the ground… yet, Valentin’s hand wouldn’t open, and now, he could not resist turning his head to look.

To Val’s left, Romeo tore through the enemy team, smiting two birds to the ground as three more riders toppled around them. Their plan executed almost flawlessly, less one target, like taking out chess pieces one after another in swift succession. While their opponents fell as copious as rain, Valentin’s gaze locked onto only one person. Flickering cloud-to-cloud lighting backlit a boy stretched over his blacker-than-black broom who struck like the wrath of God in a one-two punch, the embodiment of chain lightning, Romeo Marchonné. Valentin’s keen eyes swept over stone-cut jaw and rainsoaked hair to focus on the emotion in the boy’s electric blue eyes. The clouds above rumbled the purr of Stribog, thrumming in deep bass like music felt deep within the bones, and Valentin knew this to be the most beautiful moment of his life. Beneath the layers of reality wove the stratagem the boys had made together, their own contribution to the symphony of the game, and in this frozen sliver of time Valentin felt a sort of unity with Romeo, with his team, with the sky and the wind and the roar of the crowd. Yet, forced back as if by magnetism, Valya’s eyes flew up front as he barely pulled up in time.

The tail of Valya’s lightning-kissed Silver Arrow skipped across a patch of earth and forced a wobble through Valentin’s trajectory, but as the silver seeker pulled hard back up into the sky, his loyal broom followed through. The smell of rain flooded Valentin’s brain as his eyes bolted in every direction, searching, needing to latch back onto the snitch again. I can’t let them down, no! No!! We’ve all worked too hard for this.

Spiralling back up in a corkscrew, Valentin cast his head to the left and felt the whirl of golden fluttering wings tickle the air on its way past his cheek. Val’s head turned further until he caught the rain-slicked orb back in his sights as it bumped and dashed its chaotic trajectory back towards the stratosphere. With a holler from Plott, Valentin knew the round had ended while he flew on without the snitch. His snitch. He had visualized it ten thousand times. Valentin had rehearsed it all again and again until he could almost smell the metal and feel its coldness sucking heat from his palm. Valentin couldn’t let down that vision, just as he could not let down his people, who had toiled long and hard alongside him.

Now, it was time to reunite with his team while deadlocked onto the snitch’s position again, and yet, somehow… Valentin felt not even a single grain of guilt lodge inside his beaming heart.

Passing back alongside his team mates one by one, Valentin couldn’t look anyone in the eye as his own tracked the dance of the snitch. Swinging past Madhup first for a fistbump, Valentin chuckled.

“Amazing how those three all just… fell off together! Maybe they were arguing, or do you think they were all just stunned by the professionalism of your tight broom control?” Valentin raised his hand for a salute as he swept back off to the side and veered into Charles’s path.

“It’s alright, Charge, it’ll leave us someone to toy with next round.” Valya reached out his arm for a half hug before passing and slapping the Brit on his back. He was proud of Charles anyway.

Valentin next passed Edward, giving a thumbs up. “Thanks, and it wasn’t you. It was me. I’ll get it next time.”

Johannes wasn’t far from Edward, and even though Val couldn’t look directly at his fellow daredevil, he still leaned back on his broom to shoot finger guns with both hands at his would-be saver. “Don’t worry about not going for the hoops this round. We’ll crush them anyway.”

Valentin moved next over the tops of the crowd, knowing by heart where Yefim and Greta were. As he passed slowly, only inches above them, Valentin wiggled his feet as he did a silly dance. “Oh no, I missed my grab, what ever shall we do?” With a full and proper snerk, Valentin put both arms out like they were wings and shouted over his back, “Are you two getting into enough trouble over here? Hmmmmm!?” Valentin flapped his Yilbegän arms twice and soared back towards the stadium's rim.

As Lysander completed his victory penalty lap, Valentin reached out his hand for a passing high five. “Let’s get it, sword dancer!” With a short peal of laughter, Valentin took back off towards his benched players next.

“Sorry guys, they just can’t seem to touch us! Nya ha ha ha ha!!! Oh, hey, Astrid– could you make me a nice drawing? One of #4, please!” Valentin waved on his way out, tilting back skyward towards his co-captain without breaking his lock on the snitch.

As Val sidled up alongside #4, Valentin gestured for him to come close. “For next round, what do you think about…” he whispered into Romeo’s ear, reaching one hand out to touch the boy’s shoulder. “Do you think they’ll like it?” he grinned, depending on his co-captain to spread the word once they agreed on a plan. “Oh, and before I go… Thank you. Thanks for coming back. The cobwebs aren’t too bad, I hope? You know, if you liked it enough, you could stay, and I’ll take care of you. Everything is better now that you’re here. A good use for your strong hands, wouldn’t you agree? It suits you, just like your steed. It’s like these things were meant for you. You're like my white knight out here.” Valya squeezed Rome's shoulder and held on for a moment, his head turning to follow a sway in the snitch’s gyrations. The memory of the boy’s eyes in the intensity of Valya’s dive washed through him, and Val pulled #4’s shoulder into the crook of his upper arm. It wasn’t quite a hug, but more of a communication of some unnamed, mysterious type. It wasn’t the kind of gesture typically written about in storybooks, but even as Val’s eyes gazed out at his target, he still made time to bump the top of his wet silver-feathery head against the edge of the beater’s bicep. “Let's finish this. Drinks are on me tonight. Tell the crew.” As Val pulled away he dragged his fingers along in a gentle scratch until, once clear, he bolted at max speed back into the storm-grey distance.

Life was rarely on her side.

As she watched her teammates fall to the ground one by one from the bench, the pressure to make the best of her last official match made her anxious. Then River fell. Last quidditch match of her life and the first time she was actually going to play as a second string seeker and she was overwhelmed. If River couldn’t even spot the snitch, how in the world would she be able to do that? All she could detect from a mile away was the presence of Nicholas, and even then most of the time she failed. She couldn’t read the words on the blackboard in class, yet alone a tiny moving snitch. Clearly, the girl needed a pair of glasses.

Aurora slowly grabbed her broom and took off unenthusiastically. She was terrified, it was written all over her face. Cold sweat on her forehead and palms, she wished she was never on the team in the first place, especially as a seeker. “I AM BASICALLY BLIND! CAN'T EVEN SEE YOUR FACES! DON’T HIT ME!” She’d scream to the opposing team as a plea for her safety.

Then, the one thing she hoped would never happen happened. Maybe out of panic or perhaps something else, tears streamed down her face. “WINNIE HELPPPP”

Back into the game, and still just as willing to be sent out for another lap, Madhup had been scouring the opponent team for his next victim. The opportunity was too ripe to overlook: three lads on a single broom. His gaze fixed. He would try to be cautious this time, less brazen, but more brutal than before if he was going to succeed. All jeering and silly faces dispersed as he glided into play, maneuvering amidst the many bodies on brooms.

Hair slicked back from the rain, Quidditch goggles impervious thanks to the water-repelling charm, he squinted while he strategized. His performance would be swift and lethal. As the boys began to coast after their brooms, Madhup all too suddenly swooped out from behind a cluster of players. He dived in diagonally, appearing out of nowhere like a flash of lightning and knocking hard into the very front of the broom they shared. It was enough to send Sylorahmion bucking forward, toppling over one another. He didn't risk slowing or glancing back. Instead, he kept bolting full speed ahead, gone from the scene of his crime in an instant.

Only when he was a safe stretch away did Mad turn to admire his handiwork. With an expression of unabashed schadenfreude, he watched and listened, the announcer's bafflement like music to his ears. When Valentin coasted up alongside him, he returned the fistbump, saying through a sneer: "Hog flyers do not have grace on the sunniest of days. Three on a broom, in a storm like this?" It was less that they were stuck in a squall of rain, more the hurricane that was YILBEGÄN playstyle. They rained down on Hogwarts like a living typhoon. With a sly shrug, Madhup drawled darkly, "An accident was sure to happen." As they parted ways, he scanned the stands where he knew Greta to be, holding up a fist. That one's for you.

Evgeny growled in frustration and threw his hands up as the commentator mentioned maybe a Koldovstoretz student should be watching the hoops. "What do you think I have been complaining about!" He yelled out in Russian in frustration. All he wanted to do was play Quidditch at this point but that did not seem like it was happening any time soon. The boy was extremely frustrated at this point and didn't really care how he got to play as long as he could.

Rosella sighed as she listened to the yelling boy beside her. Yeah, she wanted a chance to play as well but she was not going to start screaming about it. Rosella knew she would get her chance to play at some point, whether it was today or at the next game. Looking up, the Russian girl sighed as she looked at the Koldov and Durmstrang students fly arpund the pitch together as mostly a team.

Quaffle. She had to focus on the quaffle. Scoring was difficult when you were surrounded by tons of buff European men. Some were terrifying and a mild flinch would cause her to miss her shot. She swore under her breath, managing to cling onto the quaffle and try again.

Something unfortunate would happen. Just as Winnie swooped out of the way to avoid a blatch and she was readying herself to shout at her attacker, she realized she was alone in the sky. Well, not alone, but the only Ravenclaw surviving. Her team mates had fallen off their brooms.

Well... She thought to herself as she gripped the wood of her broom tighter and blinked back tears as a sudden fear rose in her throat. Don't cry. Don't cry... Hold it back. If you're going to fall, at least do it in style.

It was then she heard a panicked cry from her friend.

Aurora. She sounded terrified. It pulled at Winnie's heartstrings. She couldn't blame her, this game was meant to be fun and they had just watched their team mates get brutally knocked off their brooms, one-by-one.

"Aurora." She would say if she managed to fly by the seeker, "Deep breaths, try to focus. Just do your best. We'll be together no matter what, okay?"

With a deep breath, Winnie would try to fly away from her friend and try to taunt the opposing team. Maybe they would target her instead. She would rather break every bone in her body than see Aurora get hurt. "OI! DURMSTRANGERS, YOU MISSED ME AGAIN! I'M OVER HERE!"

A hissing Bludger with incredible backspin would crash directly into what appeared to be one of the youngest players on the opposing team. With a wince, I watch as she tumbles from her broom like Humpty-Dumpty off of a wall. That would smart; both hitting the ground and the thing that had caused to to hit the ground.

But I hadn't had my sights set on that young player alone. I had been aiming for someone else, taking two birds out with one stone (if you would pardon the turn of phrase). The opposing seeker.

The backspin had been perfect, too perfect. She never had a chance, and a streak of red hair feel to the earth as well.

I would have a lot to do when I exited the pitch today, wouldn't I?

Sidling up with the team, I clap each person on the back. "There we go! That's how we take care of business!" I smile at all of them and ruffle some heads (feel free to mention). Boy was I a proud captain! "Why couldn't all you do this a few years ago?! Would have saved Valetin here a couple of white hairs!" I jest at the expense of our resident albino.
