Summer Duelling Funtime Extravaganza, Match: 5
Few things made Galton tingle in such a way as splitting a ventus. The feeling of sending forth two jets of wind that could then split off once again, if you were lucky, was tantalizing. And it seemed that today Mr. Wand would agree with him. The spell went off without a hitch, and the aiming went well enough. He couldn’t complain about hitting one out of two targets!
As he readied himself for his next move, he couldn’t help but feel a small wince of pain for his dueling partner. Not getting a spell off was a terrible feeling. He’d offer Kim a reassuring smile, before turning once again to face their opponents.

I'm in holiday, I totally forgot to postWith her blindfold still over her eyes, Eloise wanted to cry. Or scream. Jostled by gusts of wind and a well-launched Flipendo, Eloise was fed up. She knew that she was just unlucky today and that it wouldn't always be like this, but she still wanted to stop. After this duel.

Bridget wouldn't be surprised if they were setting some record today for the hardest blindfold to get off. Eloise tried again, and while it had to be doing something, it still wasn't enough to get the thing off her face. The ache from jinxes and the wind pushing against her probably had a lot to do with that.
Rodion, perhaps realizing he just needed to make up as much ground as possible with the very real possibility he would lose his teammate in the next few minutes, went for a split Flipendo. It wasn't a bad attempt, but he had magically-induced sneezes to contend with, one rocking his frame just as he went to aim, and both streams of the spell dissolved into nothing somewhere past his targets.
Deciding that Eloise was no longer the best target--she was nearing her limit and unable to do anything to harm them with that blindfold on, anyway--Ravenclaw shifted their focus to Rodion. The guest team would be the first ones out at the current rate. Pericles nailed another Ventus, evidence of his prowess and the simple fact that focusing was pretty easy when no one targeted you, but Sophia's spell went a little more haywire. Instead of making Rodion do a little jig, it veered off course for Kim. Within moments, the Gryffindor would be locked in some sort of tap dance. It was an interesting development, considering the two appeared to be friends; of course, any reservations over duelling your friend had no place on this stage.
Gryffindor was out for Eloise's blood. Kim made up for his failure, landing a solid hit. Eloise just might have been able to keep her feet if it was just that--it was hard to tell for sure when the fight left her with so much of her face obscured--but there was still Galton to contend with. Galton, who had yet to have to dodge a single spell this match. Galton, who was a skilled older duellist. The double Flipendoes did the trick and Eloise was falling, not moving after she hit the ground.
"Pause!" Bridget called quickly. She stepped over for confirmation Eloise was out--she was--before waving over the medical personnel. A few moments later, she was gone, off to receive medical treatment, and five remained. It was Rodion against two Hogwarts teams that seemed very intent on knocking him out of this duel. Bridget signalled for them to resume.

Sophia had felt a bit guilty about casting the Sneezing Hex on Rodion at first, but her guilt fell away as she felt the surefire rush of a Flipendo just past her head. That was a close one! She was sure that spell would have done a lot more than knock her out, especially in her woozy state.
"You sure know how to treat a lady!" she shouted to Rodion, offering a quick wink and giggle to Perci.
But the familiar light of a Flipendo didn't only come from Rodion, apparently. Sophia watched with pride as Kim's - her Kim - Flipendo landed true on poor Eloise. Sure, she pitied the girl as she saw the spell make contact, but she couldn't fight back her pride in her friend and the joy that they were on track to not come in last place.
"Good job, Kim!" she shouted happily as she readied her own wand with shaky hands. Her head was hurting worst than ever before. The brief respite as Eloise was assisted out of the way for her recovery did nothing to help Sophia's sickness, and she really needed to lie down. But first, she had a spell to cast. Unfortunately, as she aimed at Rodion, her dizziness began to get the best of her.
"Tarantallegra!" she slurred, and even before the spell left her wand, she knew she'd messed up.
It hit Kim.
Of all the people for it to hit, it had to hit Kim.
Her best friend.
"Oh f- golly, Kim! I'm so sorry! It was an accident!" she shouted, praying that Kim would believe her. She didn't want to lose her friend.

Peri sucked a breath through his teeth as another spell hurtled towards his partner, but once again, the fresh duellist proved fast on her feet. He met Sophi's wink with an encouraging grin, enthusiasm shining through the typically tranquil front. Kim, the other target of the split spell, had also evaded the Koldovstoretz student's attack. He wouldn't be so lucky as to avoid the Ravenclaw's accidental hit mere moments after she complimented him. The regret in her voice rang clear; it was endearing, though her partner was quick to interject, "So long as you're hitting opponents- not allies- you're on the right track." Pericles took immense care not to let any concern leak into his voice, but that slur of hers wasn't lost on him....
Eloise's fate was a sorry one to see. She, nor her partner, succeeded in removing that stubborn blindfold. She was left to be battered while blind, thus the Ravenclaws turned on her teammate, counting on the Gryffindors to give her a merciful outro. The moment she collapsed, Peri's wand hand recoiled. His expression was unreadable: mouth set in a neutral line, stare grown impassive, a faint furrow on the forehead as he tensely calculated their next move. A flinty glance flickered towards the remaining Guest opponent. Rodion had proven durable, and Pericles knew the desperate aggression that could come with being soloed out, like a cornered beast. Now certainly wasn't the time to underestimate him. In the time it took for Eloise to be gurneyed off stage, that wary look wandered over their fellow Hogwarts duellists, too.

Eloise was unconscious, still with her blindfold on. Of course, what a useless person. He was now the last one from the international school, versus four people who probably wanted to get his head as a trophy. This was not scary at all. No. It was actually terrifying. He needed to be smart and calculated.

As the blindfolded guest fell and a pause was called, Galton took a deep breathe. It was best to use these moments to regain some balance and energy. He should probably feel bad for what he and his partner had just done - the one-two punch that left her unconscious, but there was a strange pride. He saw it as kind, an easy way out, rather than a more savage method like fire. Galton really hated fire.
He turned to his now dancing partner, @Kim Sato and gave him a smile. “Little soon to be partying, don’t you think?” He’d call out as he focused back on the other three still standing.

────────────────────── ㅤ
ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Kim was satisfied. He'd been able to achieve his main goal for this particular match. Finally he'd landed a solid hit. It was all he wanted to take away from his first duel, a sign that he was doing something right with all the practice he'd done. Of course, now that he'd made first contact, he did want more. He wanted to land more spells but that was easier said than done. Apparently, he needed way more practice than he'd already been doing, but he had time for this. Even if he didn't have time, he'd make even more time for it because dueling was important to him. It was the only way to make his parents (dad) proud by becoming a powerful duelist that everyone knew about everywhere. Perhaps his father would forget about Kim not being able to follow in his footsteps if that could happen. He decided to try and get as many spells off as he could and write down what he couldn't do and what had gotten in his way to prevent him from doing so. If there was nothing obvious, he'd just make mental notes and write them down later. But back to the duel at hand, their work was halfway done with Eloise being taken out by both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. All that remained was for Rodion to be eliminated for Hogwarts to emerge triumphant in this first duel. But then again, there were also two other members. Targets that also needed to be eliminated from the match for Gryffindor to come out on top and reign supreme. What would happen next? Who would everyone target? Well, it was rather obvious for Rodion. Rodion only really had two choices. He could either dodge to protect himself or attack a member of Hogwarts. Kim regarded him for a moment, letting his eyes flicker over the boy a short distance away from his location. No, Rodion wouldn't dodge, he didn't seem like the type to do so. Plus, Rodion didn't have any blindfolds or vision obscuring sights on him at the moment. So why would he do that? Judging from what he'd done before, Kim guessed he'd do the same thing again. Hopefully he could dodge Rodion's next attack again. There were also the Claws to consider. What if they attacked him? Kim had faith in his ability to dodge, as he had practiced evasion for quite some time now. The boy's accuracy was also quite good, it was the power of his spells and getting the spells to hit that apparently were tripping him up. Which was odd since he'd never had these problems before. And he didn't think it had to do with nerves, if it did he certainly didn't feel it at all. But obviously there was a problem. Or else the spells would have hit his earlier targets. A sigh escaped his lips. Even though this was his first duel, he didn't feel nervous for some reason. Perhaps it was just the way he was. Maybe his spells not going off right was a subconscious pressure that he wasn't even aware of. That was when something unexpected happened to him and his feet started to dance. Sophia shouted out an apology to him and Kim realized it was her spell that had hit him. He raised a brow in her direction and smirked at the girl. "It's a duel, So! You can do whatever you want to take me out! Not that you'll be able to do so!" Kim shouted back, teasing her. He didn't realize it but he had called her by a nickname for the first time without thinking about it. Although secretly, he had to admit if someone did attack him, he hoped no one would use two specific spells to do so. Or he might hold a slight grudge against them for a time. Kim did hope that Sophia was doing alright though, he'd been worried about her since she'd hit the back of her head earlier. Hopefully the duel would be over soon so she could get looked at before anything worse happened to her. Kim glanced over at Galton as his partner spoke about celebrating too early and his lips twitched. "Oh this? It's nothing, I just like dancing a lot." Kim joked. Well, he really did like dancing, just not like this. "Maybe our opponents will also start to celebrate a little early too!" Kim added, wanting to see it. If he had to guess when it came to the duel, he'd guess that in the end it would probably come down to Galton and Pericles duking it out against eachother. Rodion would most likely be taken out and then both him and Sophia, leaving the two with the most health to battle it out between them. At least that was how it was looking at the moment but of course things could change too. This wasn't set in stone though, as someone could target him and if luck was on their side could take him out as the first member. But hopefully that wouldn't happen. Not yet at least. He wanted to get off one more successful spell against someone before his first duel ended. Who knew when he'd get a chance to do so a second time? After all, Kim wasn't part of the dueling team right now. This was like an early birthday or Christmas present for him and he wanted to make the most out of it. So far, he was enjoying it quite a lot and couldn't wait to take part in more matches. Maybe he'd seek out the members of the dueling team sometime and see if they could give him advice later. Getting the perspectives of lots of different people might help in the long run. After all, everyone was different and he could benefit from them all. Regardless, Kim was going to get the most out of this duel. Whatever the result was in the end, it would definitely be a great duel for him. One worth remembering forever. Kim grinned for the first time when he saw Regina on the sidelines. It seemed as if she was feeling better which made him feel better. Having her come to cheer for him meant a lot and he couldn't wait to talk to her afterward and see what she thought of his performance. It was now similar to how he'd gone to Regina's first duel to support her too. Kim returned his attention to the duel before him and waited for whatever was to come next. What would happen? He reached up, to tuck a strand of black hair in his eyes, back behind his left ear. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

If Rodion went down in camp history today as a minor legend, it would be well-earned. Four was a ridiculous number of spells to have coming at your face, and yet here he was. And he didn't Matrix-style dodge all of them, but the impressive part was really that, when the dust settled, he was still standing. Barely.
Ravenclaw had already been going for him and wasn't about to stop until he joined his partner in a medical tent, but Pericles also wasn't bound by the constraints of the average wizard. So while he set Rodion on fire, which was really the worst way to go out, he also set Kim on fire. Twice the flames, twice the pain. The younger Gryffindor might be getting the looming sense that he would be Ravenclaw Enemy #1 once Rodion was finished off.
Sophia went for a good old-fashioned Flipendo, which was proving quite the trend this duel, and this was the only spell Rodion managed to fully avoid. Whether that was because Sophia's aim wasn't the most on-point or because Rodion had focused on that spell to dodge was up to interpretation. Galton's Flipendo came in seconds later, and Rodion twisted so his arm got the worst of it--better than getting the wind knocked out of you--before Kim came in to steal his breath in a very non-romantic sense anyway.
And this was where Bridget leaned forward slightly, preparing to call for a stop. He was going to be done after all that, surely. Pummeled and on fire, his attempt at a weather spell failing miserably amidst the chaos, it seemed certain. And yet, just barely, Rodion clung to his feet. His making it much longer seemed terribly unlikely, but you had to give him credit for making it this far.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Practicing on his own versus in an official duel was much different. You could do all the practice you wanted but in the end it didn't matter if you didn't have someone to practice on. From this point on, Kim resolved to find a dueling partner to practice with, to prepare for when he was inducted into the dueling club when a spot opened up for him. Perhaps in the downtime he could further increase his skill with spells. So when the time came to actually put them into use against opponents, he wouldn't fail as much as he'd been failing in his first duel right now. Kim might be new to this but he had his pride. He didn't like to fail, regardless of what it was, or who he was up against. Some might say he was rather competitive, even when it came to his friends. Round 5 started and it didn't come as a surprise when Kim was targeted by the older Ravenclaw. Of course, Pericles also attacked Rodion but the fact of the matter was Kim was also on the receiving end of the spell. At least it was a spell he could deal with though. Being set on fire was fine. He could get over it, despite the pain. Kim was pretty sturdy when it came to pain tolerance. It was the other thing that he couldn't handle. Not that he was going to mention or even think about it. Pericles's spell made the long white sleeves of his outfit catch on fire. It was a shame. But he could always put the outfit together again later. Kim didn't have time though to try and stop the flames. Who knew what attacks would come for him next? He could only hope they didn't spread and render him half-naked by the end of the duel. But the boy had faith in himself and knew it would only be a matter of time before the flames would burn out. Right now, all his focus was on taking out Rodion, Pericles and Sophia. Gryffindor would win this duel. Even if he was taken out in the end, he'd do his best to ensure their eventual victory. Yes, Kim's competitive urges were quickly taking control of him. The only thing that mattered in this duel was that he work with Galton, come up with a strategy that would give them the win and then carry it out to perfection. As it was his first duel, Kim didn't expect much of himself, especially considering his earlier performances. But who knew what luck would come their way. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────
