Triathalon: Round 1 Swimming Summer Camp '22

LEVEL 2
While the first lap had been quite alright for Nessie, she hadn't finished the second lap in time. She wasn't surprised: she hadn't really been rushing. She knew this was all meant to be a race, but Nessie liked swimming. To her, this was the fun part of the triathlon. And she didn't want it to be over yet.

If she remained in the water for the entirety of the competition, would it really be so bad? She didn't think it would be. She wasn't sure what would come after the swimming, and if that was terribly difficult for her then maybe ... maybe it would be better to stay here? Nessie didn't even know if she wanted to meet the revised deadline on this, her second attempt to complete the second lap of the swim.

And if she might just be here for the whole triathlon, she may as well try to make some friends along the way, "Come on, we'll get there together!" Nessie encouraged the others around her as she paused to get her bearings for a moment. Admittedly, if she was too encouraging then she might be stuck here alone, and that didn't seem like much fun either.

The young Hufflepuff tried her best to keep up with the others. They'd all make it this time! Or at least, she hoped they would.

It seemed her strategy to save some energy during the first round of swimming had helped. While she wasn't going all that fast, the Beauxbatons student was still making good progress on her second time around. It seemed as though taking that quick break might have helped, although Kit really could not confirm that. Either way, she focused on music- playing a song on repeat in her head- as she continued her swim around. Occasionally green-blue eyes glanced up to see three people in front of her. It became a goal to catch up to them, but she wasn't willing to put that extra stamina in. Her current pace would have to do.

The back of the pack would be where Kit ended up, but she hadn't failed so far. The hope was to continue that streak, but the announcement didn't sound particularly promising. Two tiring laps done, and now she would have to dodge obstacles in the water? The girl sighed, before deciding to think of it like a quidditch game. It was just a matter of dodging bludgers and being in the right spot for quaffle catchs- or in this case, open water. Hopefully her expertise in that would come in handy even if she was now below the water instead of way, way above it like in quidditch.

Reena had carried confidence with her, loads of it. But she didnt catch enough breath and suddenly her chest felt like someone was sitting on it. She wheezed and tried to swallow as much hair before the round started but she didnt have enough time to get ready. Her body was still shaking just a bit. She dove right into it (pun intended) and held her breath for as long as she could. But she was already running out. Her chest felt so tight as she burst to the surface for air, trying to get a clear path to the end. Unfortunately, she had stuck her head up and lost her stream. She had nothing to kick off of so she just pushed herself, but she was slower this round. Tired. She lost her confidence as she realized she wouldnt make it. She pushed herself but she ran out of time. She slammed her fist once she reached the end in frustration, confused. She was ready! What happened? It wouldnt happen again, thats for sure. She would make sure it didnt because she wanted to at least have a chance at winning even if she was only a second year.

Quentin felt great after the first lap, but the second lap quickly turned into a slog. The culprit was most likely that terrible stroke he was employing. It took too much stamina, and it was difficult for him to catch his breath when he was creating such a big splash. That was it. He had to stop and take a breath. He grabbed the side of the ship, panting.

He watched other swimmers pass him by. Oh, well. It was just a silly race, and it wasn't even over yet. The people in front might be feeling good now, but there were still two more legs in this race.

Once Quentin finally felt like his lungs were back to normal and there was no longer lactic acid filling his muscles, he got back in the water. Momma didn't raise no quitter! Well, his mother didn't raise him at all, to be fair, but the sentiment was true.

This time he tried a calmer stroke. He zipped underwater like a gangly frog. He wasn't sure if it was slower or faster than the last lap, but he was enjoying his time gliding through the water, occasionally coming to the surface to draw a quick breath.

LEVEL THREE
Her second lap did indeed prove to be tougher than her first, what with Vivienne already feeling slightly fatigued because of her first lap, but she still wasn't overly tired that she felt the need to give up. So, she kept going, using all her strength to propel herself forward in the water. Her legs kicked and kicked repeatedly.

She wasn't in first place, but she also wasn't in last, which was certainly something. When she managed to successfully finish the second lap, she breathed out a sigh of relief. Her confidence was certainly growing and she felt more confident now that she'd be able to finish the third lap, and she was also most definitely growing more competitive by the minute. Even though she was starting to feel the tiniest bit tired, she was still determined to use all of her remaining strength and push through it.

The next lap would involve muggle water obstacles? Well, Vivienne certainly liked a challenge, she couldn't lie. But this would definitely prove to be quite challenging, especially since she's already completed two laps, but she's still confident that she'll be able to do it. All she has to do is avoid the obstacles, which seemed simple enough in theory. She could do this. With a deep breath, Vivienne took off again, beginning her third and final lap.

Lap two started, and Santario already knew she wasn’t exactly up for this lap, but she still had to try. Her arms were killing her already as swimmer after swimmer moved past her. She allowed her mind to drift in aid to ignore the burning sensation in her deltoids. Instead, she started going over the duelling statistics in her head from the year prior. Stage one Slytherin had taken the lead by a decent amount, having crushed the poor Hufflepuffs in every duel setting their unfortunate tone for the year. Ravenclaw and Gryffindor had tied. Round two was Slytherin’s downfall for the year, losing four of their duels to Gryffindor, and the Eagle’s clean sweep skyrocketed them into the 2-point lead. She wondered what better strategy Dmitri, Bridget, and she could implement for the next year to make sure they came out on top once more.

San had finally reached the end of the lap, panting while looking up at the ship. She needed to bring her camera out and get a photo of this before it was gone. Kim didn’t need to tell her she failed; she already knew and was contemplating whether she even had it in her to try again. If she had failed this lap so badly. Well, she was already in the water, so she might as well just try again, she decided with a heavy sigh.

Angel grinned at the start of the next lap, propelling herself forward with vigor. She quickly fell in with the top six, striding with the Hogwart’s Champion. They had met somewhat during the last year's games but never formal introductions. Truth be told, she didn’t know much about him other than he had a fun sense of humor and everything she heard since he had been named champion. It reminded her that she needed to do more research on her competitors. Her cousin was at Hogwarts, she had connections in Durmstrang, but the other schools would present themselves as a challenge. Angel would have to think on that more later. Right now, all that mattered was trying to overtake the people ahead of her. Perhaps, next round.

Reaching the end, she watched everyone else behind her, keeping tabs on who was coming in and when. What did surprise Angel was the fact that she indeed saw her cousin last round, but what didn’t surprise her was the fact that the girl was pulling up last during the second challenge. She might not have harbored as much hate for the girl as she once had, but sometimes you needed to know when to quit. With a roll of her eyes and a shake of her head, she turned her attention back to the ring leader of the event, ready to crush the third level.

LEVEL THREE
Well, that round had not followed the script in Oliver's head. The plan was to close the gap in round two, not fall to last place. Regardless the Hufflepuff student felt relieved to have even passed. He had underestimated the strength it would take to complete another lap. There are some impressive students here Oliver thought to himself.

The instructions for round three were explained aloud, and Oliver actually felt nervous about this go around. Despite the task being pretty straight forward, the fatigue from the two laps were catching up. Spending all summer on a broom didn't prepare him for real physical exercise. The extra flare this round were the added obstacles that one couldn't even touch without failing this round. Normally avoiding obstacles would be a breeze, but while they were floating moving with the flow of the water was a different story.

Nonetheless the young badger swam forward. It was a challenge to swim regularly and keep the water out of his eyes to view the objects, but he had to try his best. At this point it wasn't about finishing strong, it was just about passing. He would have to close the gap in other events.

The first lap warmed up his muscles, although Hadrian was still behind everyone else it was definitely intentional. God forbid he remained at the back for the rest of the race, he was determined now to place himself at the front of the pack. Three, two, one. The heir of Zuheir propelled himself with big dramatic strokes, not holding back at all. Cutting through the waters as if it were butter, Hadrian flew past all the swimmer in front, which was practically everyone.

Finishing his lap a fair distance from the second, Hadrian, in all his strength and glory of being the first, was barely out of breath at all. The next lap was not without its twists, colourful floaties bobbed with the waves. It was straightforward enough, he supposed. This should be easy. Hadrian was still keen in keeping his position in the lead. The quidditch left him with a loss, he hadn't even had a chance to get his butt off the bench and pay before the Beauxbatons seeker found the snitch. A loss was in no way adequate to bring home. He had to make up for it with a win. Hadrian continued with much determination, crawling forwards in a freestyle.

Chiaki made it about halfway before she had begun to tire, at least slightly. One lap had taken a fair amount of energy, so she was bound to tire on the second. Any who didn't were just supernatural. And she was far from supernatural. Most would just call her normal. She would call herself normal.

Ayako-san had caught up as well, and was swimming side by side to Chiaki, speaking between strokes.

"Chi-chan, I'm proud of you."

It made Chiaki light up inside when hearing those words from her friend, and she couldn't help but grin. Ayako-san wasn't known to just dish out compliments to anybody, even friends, so anything positive she heard from her was to be taken and cherished.

"As am I of you, Ayako-san."

Chiaki grinned at her friend as they continued to swim together. The kind words from her friend had given her a boost, so she was able to maintain a good pace alongside from her. She didn't even realise that she'd passed and finished the second lap.

Only the third left to go. And if Chiaki had thought this lap was difficult, they were nowhere near prepared for the one that was about to occur.
