Taking your cat for a walk. Something that most people don't do. Cats are not particularly a type of pet that you can take for a walk. A lazy creature, they tend to have this passion and devotion for an activity called sleeping during the day and will bother their owner once the sun goes down. Not Lucifur though. He wasn't like other cats, quite the contrary to be exact. Every morning, he liked to stroll down the hall following Aurora whilst trying to not get distracted by creepy crawlies or any moving objects along the way. Sleeping schedule for him was always at night, never once he bothered the girl or the other students in the dorm at night. What a dream cat. One of his favourite places would be the grounds. It was peaceful, the scenery was breathtaking, a perfect place if you want to breathe the fresh air. Though, that was not the reason why the cat loved it so much, too much. The green blanket graced in wildflowers and grass. Ah yes, grass. The obligate carnivore loved to eat grass as a snack. Not only that, the tall grass and other plants tend to move due to the wind, asking to be smacked with his paws.

Aurora, on the other hand, secretly loathed the seemingly innocent ground. Almost a year ago, if you look just a little bit to the east where the trees stood so tall, a disaster happened to the ravenclaws. The fire, the explosion, the spiders. Him. She felt the chill run down her spine every time a glimpse of the uninvited memory made its appearance in her head. But what Lucifur wants, Lucifur gets. And there she was, sitting in the middle of the green field with her bag on her lap, trying to not overthink what would happen next.

A package arrived the other day from none other than Naomi. Of course the muggle friend sent it to her mother firsthand, otherwise it would be impossible to deliver it to this magic school. All she had was an address to a random private school somewhere in Scotland and not exactly Hogwarts. The delivery came with a note ‘I’m forcing you to make friends with this game’. What a slap on the cheek. It was not a secret that Aurora only can count people that she could label as friends with one hand and those people couldn’t fill all the fingers. Honestly she didn’t care anymore. Why look for more friendship when you have some you can trust with your whole heart already? You don’t need hundreds of friends when all they do is stab you on the back. Besides, this so-called game can be played in single player mode.

Uno Stacko. That was printed humongously on the box that she threw out already. Now the colourful blocks were all over her bag. And now she started to make a jenga tower with it, then put a little unicorn keychain figure on top. The objective here was to not let the unicorn fall to the ground as she took the blocks one by one. Let the unicorn sleep peacefully. Don’t wake it up.

The downside of deciding to "conquer" your time at Hogwarts was that you noticed your boredom more. A lot more. Until now, June had been perfectly happy with staying in the common room (or occasionally her reading tree in the grounds) all weekend, reading a book or revising until Monday finally came. But she couldn't do that all weekend every weekend anymore. No, she needed to get out there. "Loosen up", as Ivy had put it.

And so, June was walking aimlessly around the castle, waiting for something interesting to fall into her lap. Surely someone would be doing something June could join in, right?

She meandered around the courtyard for a while, walked through some empty corridors, and eventually found herself out on the grounds. It was a bit strange to be out here without a book or particular goal. In fact, the last time she was here was when she encountered George Henry for the first time. With that thought, June made sure she was as far away from the lake as possible. She wasn't particularly in the mood for a swim today. After weaving through the trees for a few moments, June saw something quite interesting.

A small tower made up of blocks so colourful they looked as if they were emitting light. June changed her course of direction towards the tower and the girl who had just constructed it. A cat sat nearby, doing what June could only describe as trying to eat grass. Interesting. The girl began to deconstruct the tower, but she was taking pieces out from the middle. "That's not a very efficient way to tear it down," June thought. As she drew closer, though, she noticed a small figurine on top of the tower. It looked to be a unicorn (with some creative liberties taken in the execution). Aha; it was a game.

June stood off to the side for a moment, watching the girl play while trying to not seem like she was standing and staring at a stranger on a Saturday, stalkerishly. Surely not.

After a moment or two, the tug of curiosity got the better of June. She boldly walked up to the girl (it truly wasn't that bold, but it felt like it to June), the kindest smile she could muster plastered on her face. "Sorry to interrupt you, but this looks fascinating. What game is this? I've never seen it before, it looks quite fun!"

One block out, two blocks out. She was constantly on the lookout for the little furball who seemed to enjoy the grass company. Whatever he had found made him jump left to right like a bunny. Could be another tall plant, could be a bug, at least none of them were dangerous by any means. The wind lifted her hair as each strand revealed the tense facial muscles, trying to figure out which block to take next. Then a voice broke her concentration in a sudden manner. The fact that she was alone with Lucifur made her think it was something sinister. “AHH!” Aurora let out a shriek and accidentally tore down the tower in the process with her arm. The unicorn had been awakened.

Far from a ghostly appearance that she had imagined, it was a blonde girl with a smile plastered all over her face. Unless she were a spider monster in disguise, nothing menacing about her. The Ravenclaw glared at her as she tried to cover up her flushed cheek with her hair. The unnecessary scream was embarrassing. “Can you be more subtle next time? Whisper first or something?” To be fair, a whisper whilst she got caught up in the moment would not make the situation better, maybe worse. “Sorry” She sighed. It turned out blondie was only curious about what Aurora did. Curiosity certainly was not a red flag. Finally looked down, her hands rearranged the colourful blocks into the tower that she previously made. “Oh yeah this is-uh-” Jenga, uno stacko, honestly she didn’t know. Both names didn’t sound interesting to her, so she made it up. “Don’t wake up the unicorn? I don’t know, it’s silly” It was an absurd name for a game, but hopefully her next explanation would do some justice. “But all you have to do is to take one block each turn, but you have to be careful to not let the tower fall.” Once the tower stood tall once more, she only needed to add a final touch, “I will put this unicorn keychain up here, she’s sleeping peacefully, and our objective is to not wake her up.”

She acted like the game master. It was now her time to show the newbie how the game works, though, nervousness creeped up once more. It would be embarrassing if she were to fail in her first turn. “Like-” But she did it, perfectly. “-that!”

June felt her face heat up as her attempt at an entrance startled the other girl. "Sorry," she whispered. She groaned at herself internally, why was she whispering now? She cleared her throat before speaking again at a normal volume. "Sorry about that."

Don't wake up the unicorn... June watched attentively as the girl arranged the blocks in a stack, before adding the unicorn on top once more. She took a seat on the ground across from her, nodding along as the girl explained the simple rules. "Seems fairly straightforward." June looked around the tower for a piece that seemed easy enough to take out.

"Like this?" she took a block from the edge, but it was more in-place than she anticipated. The entire portion of the tower above it shifted as she pulled it out. June's stomach sank, fearing she had just ruined the integrity of the structure on her very first move, watching to see if the tower would fall. It seemed stable, so she carefully placed the piece back on top, right beside the one the girl had just placed.

She smiled nervously, meeting the girl's gaze. That was almost mortifying. "This is quite suspenseful... Shall we continue? Oh! I'm Selwyn, by the way, June Selwyn. Pleasure to meet you."

She was good. With a flick of her fingers, one block was out and it didn’t fall. This wasn’t as hard as she thought, the commercial made it seem like it was the hardest game ever invented, anyone who’d fail it would be a total loser. This was totally not foreshadowing what would happen in the next couple of seconds.

“Y-yeah!” She responded excitedly with a hint of awkwardness. This blonde person was not mean and obnoxious like some people she met. Unlike that Violet Glarrington girl who she wasn’t quite sure should be in her friend or enemy list, this girl could jump into the friend list without any doubt. Her name was June. It was a bit rare for her to find people with a month as a name. “June, like the month! Cool! Were you born in June as well?” Usually students in Hogwarts, particularly some purebloods named their kids in this fancy latin name that almost sounded like a type of disease. Including her name, Ranvier, like the node of Ranvier. The difference was that she was a halfblood. “I’m Aurora Ranvier, don’t forget the yay, some pronounced it like reindeer, but it’s actually ran vee yay with the yay.” Actually, there was only one person who pronounced it very wrong and yet she tolerated it. That smug grumpy Nicholas. Even a slight thought about him made her heart race as if she was in a marathon. No no, Aurora, focus on the game!. “It’s m-my turn, I think?”

The naturally brunette girl tried to move one block out and put it on top like she did before, but before she could do that, Lucifur jumped right on top of the block tower with a grass hanging from his mouth. “LUCIFUR!” He didn’t care, of course. He ran back to the field to eat more grass. “I’m so sorry, this supposed to be a long game we can play together” Slightly embarrassed, she couldn’t even prevent the sudden cat attack, (cattack?). Maybe this would be the time her soon to be friend walks out and never be seen again. When things were about to go right, something always came to destroy the progress.

June, like the month. The young Slytherin sighed, yet again reminded of the plague on her life that was her name. "I was born in June! Thing is, my father's an author, so I don't know why he named me 'June' instead of reaching into his brain full of ideas and picking something more creative. At least he didn't name me 'Eight o' Clock' or something like that."

Oh-row-ruh Ran-vee-yay. June quietly repeated the girl's name to herself in an attempt to commit it to memory. "Ranvier," she said with a particular emphasis on the "yay", "got it." She offered a good-natured smile, "Pleasure to meet you, Aurora."

Just as soon as Aurora reached out for a piece, a cat came bounding between the pair, knocking the tower over. Based on Aurora's reaction, this was her cat and not some random feral feline who had an affinity for ruining games. Probably. Hopefully. The fluffy cat bounded off again, its apparent mission of ruining Aurora's turn accomplished. June started picking up the scattered blocks and placing them between thee two girls. "It happens, don't worry. We can say that was a practice round, anyways! I'm happy to play again if you are."

Aurora Ranvier, a girl full of spunk and joy. She certainly was different than June, that was for sure. But in a refreshing way, a breath-of-fresh-air way, a "stop overthinking and just have fun" way. And honestly, someone like that was exactly the kind of person June needed in her life.
