ISLA AINSLEY, 1st year ravenclaw
![]() Reducio 𓄿 The year is 2010, April 9th specifically. In a quiet room in the heart of Scotland, a future bride and her to-be husband are signing a nikah, accompanied by the woman's father, immediate family and an elder in the community. The room is relatively empty, with no kin of the groom in sight. James Ali, one of two brothers continuing the pureblood Ali line, stares into the eyes of his future wife lovingly, ignoring the doubt eating away at him. James had been violently banished from his family home only several months ago by his crazed brother in the honour of upkeeping the blood status of the Ali name, his mother and father watching on with the familiar grimaces engraved on their faces. Though the Ali family was not a small one, only a portion of the long line of witches and wizards had remained faithful to their family and surname, the rest being shunned and forgotten due to the simple crime of mingling with mudbloods or, Allah forbid, muggles. The Ali name was just as pureblood as any line of wizards, tricked into the belief of superiority. Harriet Ainsley spoke her verbal consent to the marriage, a smile playing on her lips as her family murmured excitedly around them. She was of wizarding heritage, but she had ended up as a squib, unlike her magical sisters. The Ainsley name was woven with wizards, witches and muggles alike, reaching all across Scotland. She had led a simple life thus far, a foot in both the exotic world of magic and the regular lives of muggles. She knew the moment she met James that she would marry him, as cliche as it sounds. Both indulged in a forbidden romance like that of the muggle story Romeo and Juliet, playing out their secret love story in the shadows, hidden by the dark hood of the night. But that's a story for another day. After a handful of months, both newlyweds shared an awkward hug once their vows had been made, much to the excitement of their ecstatic family and friends. It wasn't long before Harriet fell pregnant with James's baby as the months passed theories built up among the Ainsley family on whether or not the child would be magical. "It's the child of a pureblood, of course it will be!" "But she's a squib!" "I just know it'll be a wizard." "Or a witch!" "Or a witch." 𓄿 |
------ | ![]() Reducio 𓄿 The date is the 2nd of May 2011, and rain pounded on the roof of the Ainsley household, James nervously hurried around the house, a swarm of levitating items such as pillows, towels and drinks following him like lost dogs while Harriet lay on the sofa, pain dancing in her wide eyes. It was a quick birth, luckily, and soon the house rang with the cries of the newborn through the heavy patter of raindrops, as whispers of prayer were murmured in her tiny ears. The following few weeks were spent with the family eagerly watching Isla along with curious relatives or neighbours bearing congratulatory messages and gifts. They were searching for signs of magic eagerly, almost desperately. But nothing came in those weeks. Or months. Isla grew up in a decently sized bungalow in a decently sized city in a decently sized country. Perth treated her well, and she grew up with both magical toys and books and muggle gadgets, just like her mother, a foot in each world. The first few years of her life flew by, and it wasn't long before her sister Maisie was born in 2013, filling the house with cries once again. As Maisie grew older, so did Isla, and she began to venture out into the scary world outside her home. She doesn't recall much from this time, but the sweet scent of heather and the loud calls of magpies reach her mind when she thinks of home. During her childhood she spent a lot of her time reading or watching the magpies that lived in a tall tree in their garden. She also took a liking to the clàrsach, which she began playing at six years old. Isla continues to indulge in these hobbies to this date, along with wizard chess and the occasional poetry. Isla excelled in the muggle primary school she had been enrolled in just after the birth of her brother, Glen, in 2016. She was quick to catch on to the alphabet and maths was a breeze for the young girl. In fact, the only subject she didn't do well in was PE. Yet, by the time she was in P3, her sister had already been dubbed magical by their parents when she burped a swarm of bubbles. While she went above and beyond in muggle subjects, her sister exceeded her in magic, with an outburst of accidental magic almost every few months. Her parents didn't show it, but Isla could tell they had hoped for her to be magical as well. At the age of 8, Isla had gotten into a squabble with Glen, not an uncommon event due to her impatience with the younger boy. Glen was only 3 at the time, but he still managed to tick off Isla somehow. Once again, Isla wasn't a very patient child when it came to family. Her mother had stormed through, scolding Isla for annoying her brother, but Isla protested and refused to apologise. Unimpressed, her mum grabbed her arm and yanked her away to sort her out, but Isla didn't take kindly to this and, her face scrunched up in rage, she yelled, "No!" At that moment, there was a spark above the three of them and the lightbulb flickered before completely going out, leaving the room lit by only the natural light streaming through the window nearby. Her mum took a moment to process what had happened, and though she was punished accordingly, her parents could help but smile proudly that she had turned out to be magical. The date was 2022, and Isla was reading a children's book in her room. Isla didn't discriminate between the muggle and magical texts, finding both as equally interesting. Just then, her mum called her over with a yell and Isla groaned unhappily. She hated being interrupted--who wouldn't? Isla ran down the hall, a frown plastered on her face when her mum presented her with a letter. She perked up; it wasn't often she got letters, since she only had a couple friends from her primary school. She wasn't exactly the social butterfly of the school. She grabbed the odd old-fashioned letter addressed to her, gently tearing the fancy red seal off and unfolding the letter inside. It was an acceptance letter... for Hogwarts! Isla turned to her mum, who smiled proudly at her. She blinked in confusion, glancing back down at the letter. But she already went to school? She was doing so well there! What if she's a horrible spellcaster? What if they made a mistake and it was for Maisie instead? What if all the other kids already knew all the spells and potions? Could she do this? 𓄿 |

ISLA AINSLEY, 1st year ravenclaw
Isla is quite an oddball little girl, marching to the beat of her own drum. Or, in her case, the strum of her own clàrsach. Even since she was an infant, Isla has been observant with an eye sharp as a hawk, letting nothing slip her gaze. As a toddler, she could sit in the garden and take in the surroundings without complaint for hours. Well, maybe not hours, as she has always despised boredom. She needs to be working on something at every waking moment, with countless hobbies. Clàrsach, wizard chess, reading, poetry, drawing, jigsaw puzzles, sorting, the list is bottomless. She loves to learn as a leisurely activity, some might say she's a classic Ravenclaw.
Isla has no problem with authority until she has a problem with authority. She respects her elders and the rules they set with the one condition they are reasonable. She will never blindly follow regulations she deems pointless, and the greatest insult she could ever receive is "do it because I said so." Due to this, a fraction of adults in her life view her as disruptive, or downright rude, when all she wants is to know why she must do this, or why she can't do that. She finds trouble in accepting she's wrong. Isla has always had an accomplished school career, often scoring high in everything she does, partly due to her obsessions with perfection and the horrors of failure. While she exceeded in school, homework is where she falters. She found it unjust to have to give up her spare time and often procrastinated, which is unlike her usual self.
Isla was quite a 'loner', by her own choice. Before Hogwarts, she only had a small, closely knit array of friends that she trusted and enjoyed the company of. Even at a young age, Isla found it challenging to follow along with what everyone else was interested in, and found herself with peculiar passions that often drove the faint-hearted away. She didn't mind the solitude at all, actually enjoying getting lost in thought. She found herself around more adults than children, who indulged her in more engaging conversations. Her blunt, honest nature also often formed an unintentional friend-repellant bubble around her. She spoke her mind when she needed to, and believes the truth is far better than a lie, no matter how difficult it is. Isla never understood white lies, and her 'coldness' wasn't received well by many of her peers. She finds it hard to be someone she isn't, and it takes a while to let people into her inner circle. She's deeply private, one of her greatest downfalls. And while she's as loyal as a dog, she expects a two-way relationship and doesn't hesitate to drop those who take advantage of her.
Isla can be narrow-minded, pegging down the loud and chatty as 2-dimensional and low achievers, or anyone who bothers her won't amount to anything. She struggles with the concept that people don't fit into boxes, which is ironic as she herself insists that nothing is black and white. Isla find it hard to break these stereotypes once she pins one on someone and it severely affects the way she interacts with others. Isla can also be very stubborn. Once she sets her sights on something, nothing will deter her. This can also work against her, however. She finds difficulty in letting others take the reins for once and doesn't seem to know why anyone would consider anything but her own ideas.
In short, Isla is a rational, independent and curious girl with a deep thirst for stimulation and a cold exterior. She expects perfection of herself and simply does not accept failure, which leads to the total inability of asking for help. She's bold yet reclusive, obedient yet independent, passionate yet quiet, a true labyrinth of contradictions.
