PART ONE

THE STORY

Lazarus Plott, Headmaster of Ilvermorny, sported a broad grin as he stood tall, hands on his hips. The blustery weather combined with his drama-enchanted ruby-red cape to billow vigrously behind him as he cheered on his home team, occasionally doing his actual job of calling out plays for the audience.

"Show them our Ilvermorny pride! Hoo-ah!! Don’t let us down, Brasileiros!" he began shouting, only to spy a suspicious Beauxbaton boy-- André-- seemingly doing his best to act casual as he passed the game box on his way into the sky. Plott didn’t like the look of the kid, who looked like he’d lie to his own mother. Frowning in concentration, Plott went to double-check on the quaffle, snitch, and bludger only to find a gouge running along the side of the quaffle.

"HEY, this ball has been TAMPERED with!!" Snapping his fingers, Plott summoned his squat, half-goblin assistant. "Find out who did this,” he said, squinting in search of the suspicious green-eye who’d already disappeared into the ranks of the Beauxbaton-Mahoutokoro team as they assembled for the first play. "Luckily, I brought a spare.”

Setting a new quaffle into play while releasing the snitch and bludger, Plott roared with not just a little consternation: "BEGIN!”

Off with a bang, the Ilverbruxo and Mahoubaton teams took off after the quaffle heedless of the bite of windchill. Suspiciously late, André could not participate in the first quaffle grab. His team mate, Ayako, was not able to carry their team alone, however, and narrowly lost the quaffle to Ilverbruxo’s Lucietta. While Viola made an effort to guard Mahoubaton’s hoop, the Beauxbaton must not have been warmed up enough to stop the quaffle from easily soaring above her head.

"Ten points for Ilvermorny-- oh, and Castelobruxo. Yes, well done, well done!” Plott laughed before looking about, trying to find where his assistant had gone. With a frown, he collected the quaffle for another inspection before setting it loose again for the next round.

This time, Ayako had a chance to redeem herself. As Lucietta was finding herself horrified by the enemy team’s “oni” demon child, Chikao, Ayako snatched the quaffle before anybody else could get their brooms in the area. Soaring towards Ilverbruxo’s hoops, Ayako waited for the very last moment before releasing the quaffle-- just as Phylicia closed in to block. Bashing each other in a tumble, each player vied for the quaffle, but Ilverbruxo’s keeper proved far too strong for the smaller Japanese girl. Phylicia ripped the quaffle away and chucked it harmlessly to the ground in front of the hoop as the crowd roared with excitement from the one-on-one tussle.

"Ilvermorny blocks! Prepare for ROUND THREE!”

Intent on doing better this go-around, Olive, Lucietta, and Ayako clustered around the quaffle as André lagged slightly behind. With only a split-second’s grace, Olive pulled out quite the unexpected and marvelous maneuver [Nat 20] and snatched the quaffle away from the pack, burning hard towards Mahoubaton’s hoop. Fierce and fearless, Chikao’s unnerving aura would not deter this Thunderbird on her day in the storm-- with exceptional grace, Olive laid over the quaffle into the hoop out of reach of Mahoubaton’s Viola.

"Stunning, Olive, absolutely wonderful choice-- and with such flawless execution,” oozed Plott with school pride. "Another 10 for Ilvermorny! And Brazilians!”

On Round 4, it seemed that Lucietta had a craving to get back her spot in the limelight. Zooming far ahead of the others, Lucietta’s positioning proved superior as she snagged the quaffle and chucked it towards the hoop once again. Viola still seemed eager to prove her worth and only barely missed the quaffle this time.

"Ten more for Ilvermorny and company! The total is 30 points so far. FINAL ROUND!”

Perhaps feeling confident, Lucietta swooped in alongside Ayako as they both reached for the quaffle at the same time. While Lucietta herself was a lightweight, all things considered, the winds of momentum were still at her back, carrying her at just the right angle to tear the quaffle away from Ayako’s grip in the second hand-to-hand struggle of the game. Thunder clapped in unison with the surging bellow of the crowd, but this wasn’t over yet. If her team was to recover its quaffle game, Viola would have to roll the hard six, and so she did. Striking down Lucietta’s quaffle, Viola blocked for Mahoubaton and won back some admiration from the crowd.

"Mahoutokoro - Beauxbatons block! End of Round 5!!” called Plott, not a little disappointed after Lucietta’s rip-roaring lead-up.

Meanwhile, Katherine Felix and Louca Dufort had been scanning the area waiting for someone to be knocked off a broom. Everett Brooks stuck close by Seeker Jamie, only to find the boy was left unaccosted. This was not to say that blood would not be spilled on this thunderous day, however. Milo Durand, Chikao Narumi, and Hiro “Tone” Bakugo all piled up their strikes at the eager, fun-loving Ilverbruxo Keeper, Phylicia Stanwood. Phylicia would not go down easily, however, and dodged Hiro’s blow-- only to be nailed by those of Milo and Chikao.

"Tone it down, over there Mahoutokoro! Whoops, what was that? I couldn’t hear you over the sound of the wind...” chortled Plott in self-amusement.

Ilvermorny’s champion, Miles Thatcher, was not keen on the idea of letting the enemy seeker have a chance at the snitch, so he closed in like a shadow-- but he telegraphed his move just a bit too much. Florian dodged out of the way of Miles’s bludger, just in time to catch a glint of gold in the sky. With such a hard evasive turn, did anyone notice the look on Florian’s face at the moment the Frenchy spotted the snitch? Meanwhile, Jamie trudged on through the weather, rain in his eyes, unable to find the same mark.

It would seem that Chikao was making quite a scene this game, having not only spooked Lucietta out of a quaffle grab, but also startling Theodore out of successfully striking him with his impending bludger. Certainly, had others such as Olive not been so fearless, Chikao would have wreaked even more havoc with his unnerving ways.

Towards the end of the game, Plott’s assistant came running up with a huff to whisper in the headmaster’s ear.

"The original quaffle was slashed by Beauxbaton’s André Alarie – what nerve! Penalty lap for you, child!” waved away Plott. "The rest of you prepare for Part Two-- and good luck with your next play,” he nodded to Ilverbruxo.

The second the game began, Sara’s eyes were trained on both the players from his team and the other. The angry glint in his eyes was accompanied by his furrowed eyebrows. He certainly looked like he was really to kill. But don’t be fooled. It’s just his ‘concerned’ face.

He understood Quidditch was only for the toughest hearts. Hello??? They have a specific ball that's only job was to literally knock people out. The thought that he would be one of the people who would be doing a lot of the hitting made his chest tighten in a twist. Nono, best not think about that right now. How about focusing on how the on-field players are doing? Perhaps their safe flight of all the players would keep his mind at ease.

BAD IDEA

Next thing he knew- BAM! An opponent was nearly plummeted by their beaters. Sara covered his face for a split second before peeking through them ever so slightly to check on the poor opponent. It was definitely difficult to see with this weather and how they were all zooming on their flying brooms here and there, but he couldn’t help it. While he had a friendly relationship with Hiro, his miss on the girl probably helped Sara remember to breathe once more. (Hiro Bakugo ( inpc of @Kim Sato )

For this fellow benchmates, they may notice how he’s trying to take deep breaths to calm down. “ Pleaseepleaseeepleasee be okayyy” he muttered under his breath, in an attempt to soothe his concerns for the poor girl . If they were to look closer, they may notice how watery his eyes are getting. Most likely not from the rain but it could certainly look that way.(Phylicia Stanwood ( inpc of @Bridget Collins )

Of course, generally, he wished the best for both teams. And he certainly did feel a bit like a traitor wishing the other team players were okay. Even tearing up for them. But he had full hopes this game would end quickly with minimal damages. Couldn’t they just score with the quaffles? Or heck, find the snitch? His next few prayers would be solely for their seeker to do just that.

This first round really couldn't have gone better, aside from scoring that was. Their keeper had let in three shots, already giving their opponents an upper hand in terms of points. Two of their beaters managed to hit their opponent with relative ease, that certainly had to hurt. Florian quickly noticed a bludger heading his way, and he adeptly and quickly dodged it, a piece of cake really with his advanced skillset.

And then it was his time to shine, as he that quickly spotted the snitch glinting out over the field. His training had clearly paid off, and he was ready to go.

Ayako kicked off with a focused stomp, soaring as fast as her broom could take her toward the quaffle. She paid little heed to the other players, seeing the enemies as mere obstacles, and the rain didn't bother her much given the practice she'd had in Japan with Chikao, Chi, and Hiro.

She reached for the quaffle with her left hand and found herself cursing her short arms as the ball was stolen from her reach by one of the French chasers - a girl named Lucietta. Ayako glared as she chased after the girl. Her fists clenched and she cursed under her breath as she watched the Lucietta score.

Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself and focused on getting to the quaffle once more. To her relief, this time she managed to at least grab the quaffle, but it didn't do a whole lot of good.

As she closed in to score, she felt herself collide with the enemy keeper. It wouldn't have been such a big deal. After all, this keeper wasn't very tough compared to the rocks she'd flown into at Mahoutokoro during her early months of learning to fly, but there was a difference between a keeper and a large rock. A keeper could grab the quaffle from your arms, and, whether she liked it or not, Ayako was simply physically weaker than the older girl.

Nothing could be done about a girl that was a few years older than her and had that natural advantage, but it still hurt Ayako's pride to fail her team when it mattered most.

"Damn it," she muttered under her breath, taking a quick moment to recover from the collision. She shot a quick glare at the keeper and chased after the quaffle again, but the enemy team managed two more goals in quick succession. This wasn't looking good at all. At least it was still early in the match.

Steeling her resolve, she went for the quaffle once more and as she approached it, she saw the other chaser - Lucietta - going for it once again as well. Both chasers reached it together this time, but unfortunately Ayako's grip failed her in that crucial moment and the other girl flew away with the quaffle again. It seemed she had an enemy.

As she chased the girl across the pitch, she took the time for a quick scan of her surroundings. The beaters were certainly keeping busy, and it was hard for her to feel any sympathy for the enemy keeper after the stunt she'd pulled earlier, ripping the quaffle from Ayako's grip.

Maybe things were looking up, after all. If the knowing glint in Florian's eyes was anything to go by, then perhaps they had a better chance than expected. As if the universe was looking to accentuate her newfound optimism, Lucietta's attempt at scoring was blocked this time.

Ayako still took the time to glare at the girl.

Action: Glaring at her rival chaser and wishing many bludgers upon the enemy keeper. She's a sore loser.

Chikao saw Milo land the bludger, and as it ricocheted towards Chikao, he took out his beater and slammed it right back at the same target. He didn't hesitate nor think about who to slam the bludger into. It seemed cruel and merciless to attack the same target, but he didn't seem to bother by the thought. This sky was a warzone, a battle that only meant the strong would win and survive. Chikao slept and preserved energy every day to train and commit to moments like these. The drowsiness in him suddenly faded and he felt... invigorated. His calm nature faded, but his laugh only grew louder and more unnerving for the many to hear over the crowds. Even if he wanted to hate it, he couldn't help but find it so fun. He was preparing for another attack-"Woosh!"

Chikao swiftly turned his head in the direction of a bludger that had missed him by a bit. Chikao was known to rarely dodge, and usually accepted hits that came toward him. He looked toward the boy (@Opeila Winters as Theodore Duncan) who had missed his shot, and Chikao could see the look in his eye. Chikao could only grin harder from the expression, and he already knew what others could tell: "Something was not right about that boy."

He would make sure everyone knew not to mess with Mahoutokoro's Oni child, and he could feel his old thoughts coming back to his head. No Mercy, No Kindness, true honor comes from giving it your all.

Raul shot a sideways glance at Monet, the mudblood had the audacity to speak as if her position was worse than his own. Well, it was, that much was certain, she definitely had a point there at least. But, regardless, he was more important than her and that meant that his problems were more important. Still, there was little point making a scene in front of the foreigners.

"Oh shush," He mumbled, before shooting a telling glance at his older brother.

How on Earth could Boe stand to spend so much time with someone with such disgusting blood? God, they even trained together. He knew he should have been watching the pitch, but he wasn't involved, and thus he couldn't bring himself to care. Instead, the Castelbruxo seeker saw fit to entertain himself by picking at and inspecting his fingernails, making sure each was near enough to perfectly manicured.

The first round had been a terribly imperfect one, but there was room for redemption. Not that there should have been any need for it, because Viola should have been more successful against the opposition's chasers, but that was fine, just for now. She had underestimated them, and clearly the Americans and Brazilians weren't unskilled. At the very least, she had the rest of the game to not let history repeat itself.

She'd have to keep her eye on the American chaser with the wavy brown hair - Olive, she had been called earlier, but in Viola's mind she'd have to stay nameless; she was the opposition and that was all that mattered.

Still, she had some complaints to make about their moderator, the clearly-biased Ilvermony headmaster. She bet if his school had been found tampering the ball, they'd have been just fine, but suddenly if her teammate did it, it was such a big deal.

She bit her bottom lip, eyebrows scrunched together in concentration, before realising it must be unsightly of her. She quickly fixed her expression into a more subtle, sophisticated one and exhaled. The opposite team's score was 30, and her team's score was 0. She couldn't do much about her team's right now, but she sure could do her best to keep the so-called "Ilverbruxo" team at their current 30 points.
