Twirl the Flagon — Group 1
EXPLANATIONReducio› Students have been separated into semi-randomized groups (12 or 14 per group, partially weighted by year)
› Each round, Students (ICly) take turns spinning a bottle to determine a partner (those who spin in a given round are randomized)
› Players will have 1 week to RP their character's action (kiss / hug / retreat). God modding is NOT allowed, and all actions should be made as attempts to allow the recipient the freedom to react (unless you have express permission from that individual to do otherwise)
› When the week is over, a new round will start with newly randomized list of spinners and spinnees. Students will have one week each round to submit their posts
› Failure to post by a round's deadline will result in the assumption that the character froze up and declined to continue. They will be removed from the game
› All IC rules still apply and IC consequences are possible depending on the situationSite rules and rating will also always apply. All actions/descriptions must comply with them. The game takes place Aug 28th
〘 THE SETTING 〙On the evening in question, the Quidditch stadium would once again undergo something of a transformation. In place of lush grass, it had been filled yet again with water, waves rolling lazily across its depressed surface to lap against the stands and novel shoreline. The breeze carried with it the smell of salt and sea. Sand surrounded its perimeter, one side built up like a tropical beach. White and soft and warm, the sand underfoot was speckled with the occasional pretty little shell to catch the fancy of collectors. A little make-shift ocean in the privacy of camp.
Along the length of the ample shore had been erected a number of tents equal to the number of groups to be participating in this little game. Tents might have been a bit of a misnomer. In truth, they appeared more like gazebos—circular sheltered pop-ups with black opaque mesh sides that kept the insects and prying eyes out while permitting the cool and refreshing summer breeze in.
Inside, there would be no real floor to speak of, bare sand for the beach-bound. But for those who found it to be far too rough and coarse and obnoxiously capable of getting everywhere, reed mats served as safe places to perch. A plethora of colourful pillows and cushions would also be found piled within. Just waiting for the grabbing they promoted the comfort and casual relaxation of the temporary would-be denizens.
Jars of various sizes and style circled the perimeter, providing soft mood lighting illumination for the upcoming activity without over-powering the romanticism of the starlit sky twinkling down from above an openly screened ceiling. Fruits and treats had been arranged in tantalizing displays on platters are regular intervals between the available seating, just begging to be nibbled. And at the shelter's centre, the highlight of it all: a green glass bottle poised on its side upon a raised circular dais.
One by one, the students would arrive, each claiming a spot of their own. And once the last had taken their seat, the game would begin.

EmmaLee picked her way across the sand that had appeared in place of the grass and marveled once again at the capabilities of magic. She had always grown up around magic, although probably less than most wizards due to living in a muggle town, but it always amazed her what one could accomplish with it and it was even further amazing what a group of wizards could do together. The prominent thing being creating this camp with all of it's fake ships and oceans and expanding tents and extravagant food. There were only a few days left of camp and although she knew that she was definitely going to be sad to leave, she was even more excited to see what going to magic school had in store for her.
EmmaLee loved the beach in general and this one was a perfect replica of some of the best in the world. She loved the feel of the soft sand between her toes as she walked, her white sandals carefully held in her hand. It was perfect sand, not too hot to walk on, but not cold. Her blue sundress even swayed in a slight breeze that was rolling over the salty smelling waters. She continued along the beach, quite enjoying the walk, until she saw the gazebo she had been assigned to.
She was deep in thought about her situation as she approached the beautiful gazebo structures. When she had decided to sign up for every event this summer, and she really had signed up for every event she could, even the Triathlon, she hadn't really thought this one through. She had vaguely heard about this game before, but had never seen it played or experienced it. Some of the kids in her old village played a version where you spun the bottle and got to ask questions of whomever it landed on, but apparently this one involved lip kissing the person instead. She was sure that you didn't really have to kiss the other person if you didn't want to. She would probably just kiss on the cheek, or a hug would do, right? She wasn't sure she was ready to lip kiss anyone yet, and she hadn't really gotten to know a lot of people other than her tent mates, so it felt a little more awkward to kiss someone she didn't know as well. Well, she would have a good time anyway. She could just go with the flow with it and if she didn't want to, she wouldn't.
She shrugged to herself as she entered the gazebo area, set her shoes down, and sat on one of the piles of pillows. Reaching for some strawberries and apples, she ate for a bit while waiting for her fellow players to arrive.
Once her fellow players had arrived, EmmaLee reached towards the bottle and gave it a spin as she said, "I am alright to go first to get the um flagon twirling, I suppose." The bottle landed on a boy with brown hair who she learned was Finnegan Conner. She looked over the green glass bottle at him and smiled nervously. She had firmly decided that she was not comfortable with a lip kiss in this context, but a faire la bise greeting would apply here, right. A greeting kiss on the cheek.
"May I kiss your cheek, Finnegan? Or we could shake hands instead." She was comfortable with cheek kissing, as it was a common form of greeting in France, including people you have just met in a party setting, so the situation applied. She actually remembered how she had had to be taught the proper way to greet people in America when she moved there, as they were very uncomfortable with that kind of greeting. You shake hands in America, we only kiss our family here was what her stepfather had told her.

Finnegan wriggled his toes in the cool, white sand. The smell of sea and salt carried on a summer night's breeze mingled together into a pleasant, crisp scent filled his lungs with an overwhelming sense of calm. Being near the ocean, even if it was put there by magic, never failed to put his mind at rest. It was nice to wind down for a bit after another day filled with exciting activities.
High above the moon and stars cast a pale light onto the tents and the slow droves of students shuffling towards them. A little ways down the beach he spotted the gazebo-like tent with the number one on it. He'd stopped a few times along the beach to pick up shells and stuff them in the small pockets of his swim trunks although he had no real plan for what to do with them.
Once inside he found a spot in the small circle that was forming, brushed off the bits of sand that had glued themselves to his plain white shirt and sat down cross-legged, watching in silence until everyone had trickled in. To his relief they were all his own age. He'd been not been to worried about the game other than being put in with George who would undoubtedly not pass up the chance to hit him in the face with flowers again.
There had to be some kind of counter-spell to that kind of thing, some kind of wilting spell perhaps. He vowed in silence it would be the very first thing he would learn once he'd got to Hogwarts.
After everyone had arrived and found a spot, the game finally began.
His mind had already begun drifting to wonder about whether he could make a wristband out of the shells he'd collected when the bottle came to a sudden halt, pointing squarely at him.
Oh.
His heart skipped a beat, and then another while his mind tried to decide whether to panic or freeze up before settling on the latter. It almost felt like he'd gone underwater, where everything happened more slowly and all the noise was drowned out.
He dragged his eyes up to meet those of the girl that had spun the bottle. She was pale, a little taller than himself and had long, white blonde hair that seemed almost silvery in the light of the star filled sky. Her eyes were an even paler blue than his own and if he didn't know any better he would've thought she had come from the moon and had only just landed here.
A nervous little twitch of his lips was all he managed to muster in response to the girl's faint smile. Then it was too late to do anything else, she was already near him, near enough for him to feel the heat radiating off of her, or perhaps it was his own blood rushing to his face. "Aye," he croaked, feeling incredibly stupid. This wasn't at all how he had imagined it, he'd thought he'd keep his cool.
Realizing he'd all but frozen up completely, he turned his glowing cheek toward her, "you may kiss." He hardly even recognized the hoarse, boyish voice that said it.
He wished the jarred lights hadn't been there. Without them it wouldn't have been so plainly obvious that he was blushing furiously. "Thanks," he managed to say, although it came out rather feebly.

Outfit: x Adelaide was not entirely sure why she had signed up for Twirl the Flagon. Sure, she had wanted to do something while at summer camp, and most of the activities were not up her alley. At least this was just a simple game that only involved you sitting down, spinning a bottle and then hugging, kissing, or shaking the person's hand of whoever it landed on. But she didn't exactly think this was what her mother meant by 'doing more things' and 'getting out there more'. Either way, whether it would be an atrocious game or a fun game, it was bound to be entertaining.
She made her way through the setting of the game, a lovely beach complete with a makeshift sea and even some shells scattered along the sand. Whoever had made this surely outdone themselves. Entering one of the tents, she quickly took a seat on one of the reed mats and waited for the game to begin. Once the game began and people started spinning the bottle, she couldn't help it as her thoughts drifted. The blonde had signed up for this game knowing one thing for certain: she was not going to be kissing anyone today. Even though that may be the whole point of the game, she didn't want to waste her first kiss on a silly little game. She was also very young, and she wanted her first kiss to actually mean something. She just hadn't found the right person yet, even though she wasn't actively seeking out anyone. Honestly, Adelaide hadn't even had a crush on any of the boys at Hogwarts yet, even if some of them are conventionally attractive. Maybe she just needs to wait for the right person to come along and sweep her off her feet.
Coming back to the present, she realizes it's her turn to spin the bottle. Clearing her throat, she sits up straight and leans over to spin it. Watching as it goes round and round until it finally comes to a halt. The person it landed on is a girl she doesn't recognize, though they don't look much older than her. They could even be younger, possibly a upcoming first year. She smiled gently at the girl, "Are you alright with a hug?"

Twirl the Flagon — Group 1

Dear reader, August 28, 2022
Twirl the Flagon
xxxxxxxxIt wasn't every day that your magic school boasted a game akin to the muggle equivalent spin the bottle, and it certainly wasn't something that Maggie anticipated, but when she'd seen the prospect of playing such a game, she'd leapt at the opportunity. She didn't want to make out with anybody, no, but she liked the drama, the intrigue, the sheer magnitude of a mass mess as a result of spinning the bottle. If Maggie Hawkins could come into the new school year saying that she was a part of the group in which people were totally fighting out of jealousy and rage because of some kissing, then she'd do it!
Kiss, hug, retreat. Those were the presented options that Maggie could pick from. She was sitting cross-legged, grinning and swiping her hair out of her eyes and pushing up her sunglasses periodically when they slid too far down the bridge of her nose. Occasionally, she'd look over at June, then back at the assembled students. Just surveying the crowd, trying to pick out who she'd like to kiss. Or hug. Or run away from.
With a deep breath, Maggie spun the flagon. It spun around...
... and around...
... and around...
... and it landed. Right on Bubba McGarry.
Maggie knew about this guy. June had told her plenty about what he'd said to her, how he treated her. The way that he had acted.
So yes, Maggie Hawkins hated Bubba McGarry.
She sat up on her knees and leaned forward slightly, blinking a few times. She surveyed Bubba's deep brown eyes and well-combed hair. Her eyes were particularly interested in his left cheek, right at the apple where the flesh was pink and flushed in a rosy tint.
Then, she raised her right palm and leaned in.
One, two, three.
The palm came down hard on Bubba's cheek. While Maggie wasn't the strongest person in the world, she certainly knew that being in close proximity to someone tended to make your slaps hit harder.

Bubba thanked god that he'd brought his flip-flops with him at his father's insistence. He didn't expect them to actually fill the quidditch stadium with his stand, but his muggle father had the good sense to say 'hey, they're wizards, who knows what they're gonna do'. And fill it with sand they had, Bubba imagined the discomfort and inconvenience of having to walk with sand in his shoes and then empty them out. He was quite content with his footwear choice now. He was wearing a pair of cargo shorts and the Nathan Eovaldi Red Sox jersey his dad had given him for his birthday. Last year he'd been nervous about showing off his muggle heritage, now he didn't care, he celebrated it. He was happy to show who he was.
Bubba walked into the appointed tent at the appointed time. He was not happy to be here, not at all. Miles, that jerk, had heard that he was too nervous to sign up so, bless his heart, he'd done it for him. This was not the sort of thing he got excited about, it was just awkward. Bubba hated awkward. Still, in the name of being a good sport, here he was, ready to be humiliated. He walked into his assigned tentzebo and chose the most out-of-the-way thatched mat he could find. He grabbed a blue pillow from the pile and set it down. Before things got started he grabbed some iced coffee and a satsuma from the table in the back, carried them over to his mat, and sat down with them.
It was getting closer to the dreaded hour now. The tent was full and people were starting to give the flagon a spin. Next up was Maggie. Bubba didn't know Maggie very well but he knew she was best friends with June, a Slytherin that he didn't know well at all but she certainly didn't like him. Bubba's only interaction, if you could call it that, was at George Henry's detention. They'd sat next to each other and, well something happened, something that Bubba couldn't really remember. All he knew is that it seemed like one minute June was there and the next she was not. Ever since June had not liked him. At all.
The flagon spun for what felt like an eternity. Finally, it stopped, wait, it had stopped in front of him. Oh no, his moment had come. Panic flooded him but he tried not to show it. Maggie leaned over and Bubba got on his knees as well, facing her. Maggie seemed to be showing a lot of interest in his cheek.
Was she going to kiss him on the cheek? That seemed highly unlikely.
Now she was raising her right hand, a hug? That still seemed pretty unlikely, he would've bet on retreat.
He'd heard people talk about realizing what was going to happen a split second before it did. For the first time in his life, Bubba knew that feeling. In that little time he braced himself. She had slapped him hard on his cheek. If he hadn't braced himself he probably would've gone over. Think of the coffee. Bubba slowly raised his left hand, eventually placing his hand on his cheek and rubbing it in a circle. The pain was... intense.
The look on Bubba's face was one of pain, but also confusion. What had he ever done to her? All he could think to say was, "You know, I'm not sure I deserved that."

June wasn't exactly sure what she had signed up for when Maggie convinced her to join a game of "twirl the flagon". But when she entered the beachy area and looked around at the participants, she wasn't quite sure it was a good idea. She knew just 3 others in the group, and only considered 2 of those people to be positive acquaintances. The other was Bubba McGary, who June did not like. At all. Yes, she was out of line at the detention, but Bubba had absolutely no context to what had happened, and still he decided to say something incredibly nasty to her. She had made a point to avoid him for the rest of the school year.
June waved to Adelaide and took a seat next to Maggie, adjusting one of the mats underneath her as to not coat her legs in sand. The "flagon" eventually made its way to June. "Oh, so I just.. Spin it?" June looked to Maggie for confirmation, a hum of anxiety flowing through her. "Alright then, here goes!"
Round and round the bottle went, pointing at different members of the circle. It slowed to a stop in front of a girl with blue eyes who looked to be a bit younger than June. So, she was just meant to... Hug? Kiss? This person? Retreating certainly wouldn't be polite, as June didn't know her, but everything in her upbringing was screaming at her to not affectionately touch this girl in any way, even if it was for a stupid game.
Well, might as well get introductions and platitudes over with. "I don't believe we've met. I'm June Selwyn. Would it be alright if we... Hugged?" June laughed nervously as she felt her cheeks flush slightly. "I honestly have no idea what I'm doing."

Lillian didn't know why she had signed up for this. A pirate-themed version of spin-the-bottle didn't sound all too appealing, but she had pushed herself to do it, to step out of her comfort zone. As evening fell, she found herself surrounded with a familiar environment, and felt herself relax. Her nervousness almost completely dissipated when she saw Bubba and EmmaLee were present in the group. Settling down on a cushion, she watched the proceedings quietly. So far, so good. Most of the students were just as awkward as she was, and she didn't feel out of place anymore.
That is, until Bubba got slapped on the face. She flinched, eyes widening, and decided then and there that she'd be avoiding whoever this girl was. And, of course, fortune decided this was the perfect time for the flagon to point towards her.
Oh, no.
Lillian's eyes snapped towards the girl who had spun it; she seemed nervous, too. Lillian had noticed this girl exchange glances with the one who slapped Bubba. Who knows what she thought was acceptable in this situation? Right now, her worry about being slapped was far greater than any worry about kissing or touching a stranger.
The girl introduced herself as June and asked for a hug, and Lillian breathed a sigh of relief. She nodded and, with a reluctant glance around her, stood up and stepped forward. "That makes two of us," Lillian said with an awkward laugh when June commented about not known what she was doing. She stepped forward for a quick hug, trying not to be too awkward and to be done with it as soon as possible.
Stepping back, she offered June a bit of a smile. What else was she supposed to do in a situation like this. "I guess that's a tiny bit better than a retreat. Not as embarrassing." Again, she tried for humor, but almost immediately regretted her words, flushing bright red and dropping back onto the cushion she occupied, wishing she could just burrow into the sand. Instead, she pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them.
That was Round 1 done. The next couldn't possibly be worse. Could it?

As EmmaLee moved closer to Finnegan, she could feel the heat rise in her own pale cheeks. This was dumb, why was this suddenly such a big deal. She kissed her friend Kiernan on the cheek in greeting every time she saw him. Why was this any different? Was it this weird, obviously-trying-to-be-romantic setting? Or the fact that she had just met this boy five seconds ago? Ugh.
As she got closer to his face, she noticed his spattering of freckles and pale blue eyes. He was rather.... cute. Wait - no - that thought made her blush even more. Ugh. She closed her eyes quickly, pecked him on the cheek and plopped down on the nearest pillow rather than move across the gazebo and back to her pervious spot.
"Alright. Who's next?" She said, covering her tomato face with her hands and talking between the palms of her hands.
After she calmed down and the heat from her cheeks had receded a bit, she lowered her hands to watch Adelaide take her turn by hugging Leandra and then Maggie spun the bottle, excuse me, flagon.
She jumped in surprise, gasped and covered her mouth when Bubba was slapped. "Mon dieu! My God! Bubba, are you okay?" She asked, jumping up and moving over to inspect his face. Bubba had been one of her tentmates all month and while she still didn't know him super well, she did care that he had been harmed.
She looked at Maggie quizzically, but without any anger or upset towards the other girl. She didn't understand why Maggie had hit him, but she figured that something was going on that she was unaware of. Maybe they had dated and the relationship ended badly, maybe he and his boisterous personality had stepped on her toes last year. She chose not to ask exactly what happened as she honestly didn't really care. She was annoyed, admittedly, that this girl had chosen violence instead of just bowing out, but their conflict was really none of her business.
She inspected his face and saw that he had only suffered a rather red mark on his cheek, then patted his shoulder comfortingly, backed off, and moved to sit next to Lillian as June moved to spin the bottle. She could tell when she sat down that this girl didn't like Bubba either by the way she looked at him and wondered for a brief moment what had happened between him and these girls, before she saw that the bottle landed just next to her on Lillian.
She watched as Lillian exchanged an awkward hug with June, sat back down, and put her hands around her knees. EmmaLee patted her friend on the shoulder comfortingly and chuckled a little. "That went well." She said with a small smile.

Ramzy took her time getting to the tent as she was mostly looking at all the nature that surrounded her. The grains of sand on the surface of her toes, the way the waves would crash up onto the shore as if they were trying their hardest to reach her. She truly did love being outside, even if there was nothing at all to even look at. She let her feet carry her to the destination in which she was supposed to be for the day, 'The Twirl the Flagon, surely this game can't be too hard? I heard you just have to twirl your flag as best as you could to succeed, should be a piece of ca-' Her thoughts were cut short when she came into the tent to see a group of other young boys and girls huddled around a green glass bottle. However, the smacking of Bubba took Ramzy by the reins as she took a small step back almost in utter fear of getting the same slap dealt to her too. 'OKAY OKAY, NOT A FLAG TWIRLING COMPETITION'
After Bubba seem to rub the pain out of his cheek she decided she would be able to save, however, she did make sure she picked the comfy seat furthest away from the hitter. Ramzy was about to ask how one plays this particular game when another girl put her hand on the bottle, with a flick of her wrist Ramzy's eyes watched as the bottle spun round and round before it landed on Lillian, 'Oh... she's here, well hopefully she's not in a grumpy pants mood or... or... I'll uh I'll cross my arms at her... yea." Soon enough it was Ramzy's turn as she placed her small hands on the bottle and gave it a small spin before she watched it spin...
and spin,
