Sorting Ceremony

1st September 2022 - 30th June 2023
September 1st 2022 would mark the arrival of a fresh generation of wizards. This is also the day older students return to an oh so familiar scene. This story is of course not for the older students. They had already been here... done that. The Sorting Ceremony is a tradition that has remained unchanged for generations. There was still excitement too be found in ceremony and routine. who among the throng of fresh-faced, wide-eyed children would share their dormitory, their house, their tables?
These first years were about to embark on a novel journey. For those with a magical family; older brothers, parents or even friends, they might know what this gathering was all about. For others, specifically the muggle-borns, this might be a more stressful day as their 'normal' muggle life is finally truly over and the world that they are now a part of is entirely unlike their own. At this sorting ceremony each new student with the help of the sorting hat would be placed in one of four Houses -- Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.
Hufflepuff for the loyal and the hard-working.
Slytherin for the cunning and ambitious.
Ravenclaw for the studious and the clever.
Gryffindor the the prideful and the brave.
Slytherin for the cunning and ambitious.
Ravenclaw for the studious and the clever.
Gryffindor the the prideful and the brave.
As they say, the Sorting Hat is never wrong and while for some the Sorting Hat may pick a House that is unwanted or unexpected, it simply means that the House saw something in you that you failed to see within yourself.
The room itself was grand. Four long dining tables stretched the length of the room with benches on either side. As it always was on the first day -- it was standing room only. A feast was laid out family-style down the center of each of the four tables, the children would gorge themselves on every sort of food one could think of in the shared space. Goblets full of cheery, fruity drinks and large, full plates of hearty dishes sat in front of each student. The walls were lined with massive living portraits that chatted among themselves and with some of the more curious students. Overhead lit candles hovered, illuminating the great space and the high vaulted ceiling above. It was loud, the roar of conversation as well as the excitement and anticipation of many of the students as they waited and they wondered where they were going to be sorted. Many had a preference, one that the hat often, but not always, honored. Many came back exuberant, but there were a few that would slink back to the crowd after they were sorted astonished that they were placed in the house that they were.Out of Character Note: The sorting ceremony that you enjoyed is a weight-based algorithm that chose your house based on the answers you have chosen. This is not randomly assigned. We hope you took care in picking your answers because this is the House that you will be in for the next several years while you attend this school!
To reiterate, despite it being mentioned in the welcoming letter I feel it is important to say once again: we do not allow players to re-attempt the sorting ceremony, nor do we forcibly sort players into their desired houses. An unexpected house can serve as a great tool for character development. Please utilize the unexpected outcome to your fullest ability.
Solomon Lear, the Headmaster was there. He was a curious, unexpected figure for most. He met most of the students at the door as they entered the Great Hall although there was always a wily one that would slip past. Somewhat imposing, standing a bit over six foot, six foot - two inches to be exact and wearing armor. The armor was a strange characteristic of the grey haired wizard with a full beard and dark eyes, heavy metal plate wrapped in an embossed leather that while definitely worn with evidence of repair appeared to be well cared for. He was more pleasant than he would appear on first impression, his expression certainly not stern, his words for the most part the common platitudes one would expect from a Headmaster laced with the occasional dad-joke. However there was something about his features that suggested illness or disability. While he appeared fuller about his cheeks and his armor appeared to fit him snugly, he had this sickly pallor that would remain unexplained. He was alert, interactive and friendly but he was not animated or vibrant, his blue eyes appeared dead and his gaze distant. This was for the most part pomp and circumstance, a ritual to start the school year as it always had, one could not waver from what was tradition. At his side or at least nearby, always a Head of House but they appeared to rotate their presence near the Headmaster. Those with a keen eye might notice that the older man had a slight limp.
Once the students were all inside, the doors would close behind the last student as if on its own. Solomon would quietly make his way to the front of the room, this awkward period of time as he traversed the length of the hall. His movement for the most part demanding without requesting silence. With the assistance of the Amplifying Charm his voice boomed. "Welcome first year students. I am Solomon Lear, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As it is our tradition here we are going to engage in our first ceremony known as the sorting ceremony. The sorting hat has been a part of our school's tradition since the time of Godric Gryffindor, one of this institution's founding wizards. This hat is very much sentient."
Sentient, I am intelligent
A voice chimed in from... It did not come from the Headmaster nor did it come from any of the other Professors that elected to participate in this year's sorting ceremony. None of the Professors seemed even remotely surprised although one rolled their eyes a bit. In the hands of one of the Professors, a pointed witches hat that was tattered and worn moved about on its own accord. Yes, the voice came from the hat itself.
Solomon let out a bit of a cough, as if he was making sure that the hat was going to let him continue to speak. "Ah yes, the intelligent" he eyed the hat. They had done this exchange before, it was nice having a sense of normalcy once again. A shame that the hat had not come up with a new joke in the past year but he had not come up with a new speech either. The hat was in a lot of ways similar to Headmaster Lear, making things appear as normal as possible which was never easy, a farce in the best of circumstances. Headmaster Lear gave a slight smile to the sorting hat and said in a low voice that the study body could not overhear. Neither of us are terribly funny anymore I say. Which is fine, they will pretend to laugh anyways. During the school year, the Sorting Hat spent the rest of the year in the Headmaster's Office. Renovated the summer of 2019 with better security than before, there had been a restless peace the past year as they both kept to themselves.
"Sorting Hat will be placed upon your head. It won't hurt one bit. The Sorting Hat will look into your heart and mind and determine the best place for you: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. As most of you must know, each of those houses possesses their own characteristic, their own values and their own Head of House." He would gesture towards the present four Heads of House, they never seemed to last very long as of late. "Professor Marcus Iwasaki of House Ravenclaw," he gestured towards a rather handsome young man . "And the ladies," he motioned towards three women "Professor Elaine Pendrast of House Gryffindor," a woman with dark hair and usually a serious expression "Professor Hjørdis Jensen of House Slytherin" a woman with a neutral expression and shocking white hair, "Professor Magdalena Wickham-Deakin of House Hufflepuff" a woman approaching middle-age with vibrant red-hair. "The house that will be chosen for you shall represent qualities that are truly present within each of you. Your future house shall be like a second family. You will also be able to gather points and once we reach the end of the year, the house with the most house points shall win the House Championship Cup. What you need to know is the Sorting Hat is never wrong, once you are sorted your House will not change for the duration of your time in Hogwarts."
Solomon would pull a scroll from his waist and open the tightly bound parchment. The list was long this year, even longer than last year. There was a bit of nervousness within him as the long scroll hit the floor, one end still in his hand and rolled several feet away. There were names, so many names. This was going to take awhile he thought to himself. It was as if the list got longer and longer every single year, the wizard baby boom was not over yet.Out of Character Note: You should have a letter from your Head of House upon completing the sorting ceremony that gives you some basic information regarding where to go and where to start. If you have any questions or concerns, they are a great resource, please use them.
Gryffindor students specifically: The year started with the Head of House Elaine Pendrast, but in February 2023 a new Gryffindor Head of House was hired: Galahad Browne.
As if on queue, the Sorting Hat would be placed on a small stool and would start moving and singing:
The Sorting Hat then sang his song :
" A thousand years or more ago
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
For were their such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
As Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
United by a common goal,
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along their learning.
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along their learning.
Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones, they had to teach.
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones, they had to teach.
While still alive they did divide
Their favorites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When were they dead and gone?
Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!
Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell where you belong!
Their favorites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When were they dead and gone?
Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!
Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell where you belong!
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've got a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends. "

Once the Sorting Hat was done, most of the students applauded the sorting hat. There was no Deputy Headmaster this year to grow hoarse listing off all of the names, that was Solomon's job again. He had tried to pawn the role of Deputy Headmaster off on one of his Heads of House in 2018, all of them ridiculously competent he sometimes wondered if he was even needed as Headmaster. They had managed the school admirably in his absence. Never the less, the old armored man would start to recite each name on the list and one by one the students would be summoned to the front of the room where the Sorting Hat would be placed on their head. It was time to start their journey.
This is a RPG topic where all new first year students are welcome to post.
All RPG rules apply. Word count per post is 200 words of your own work, not including quotes, ooc chat or other people's words. Any flood type (posts under 200 words) of message will be deleted after a warning owl is sent. If you are having a hard time meeting the 200 word count expectation try to be descriptive: How was the trip here? How are you feeling? Are you hoping for a certain house, if so why?
Very minor god-modding is allowed here because there are hundreds of you and only one of me. Please be respectful of this fact and keep most of your post about you. You know that my character called your name, they might give you a kind smile and a word of encouragement but in character he is also seeing hundreds of students in a single day. He would not be spending a lot of time on a single student, this ceremony goes on for hours. As for the sorting hat, again please respect the cannon. The sorting hat would see something in you, they would not decide because you are someone they 'especially hate' for instance that they would place you in the 'wrong house.' Think about what traits you do have that make you a suitable fit for the house you got and have the hat give that as a delivery for instance. Or if you cannot think of anything, the hat never tells you their reasoning as they declare your house.
We have a Prefect Staff that moderates this forum and this thread in particular. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to a Prefect or other staff member.

Juni was terrified of what was to come he had no idea what to do. Being as tall as a fourteen year old he couldn't hide that well.
Many people's names were called and they walked up terrified over what was to come. Juni saw that all that happened was just the hat going on your head saying a few words and then deciding your house.
This was a great comfort for Juni as he had been worrying a long time since he had found out he was in fact a wizard.
More people's names were called until finally a voice called out:
"AVERYS, JUNI!"
Juni's mouth fell open as he said excuse me to many people trying to get through the crowd of First Years. He stumbled up to the stool and sat down on the stool and waited for the hat to be placed on his head.
He felt the Sorting Hat touch his head and it said:
"I see a brave heart in you with a kind mind, the house has already been chosen for you. GRYFFINDOR!
Juni stood up and looked around for the Gryffindor table. He saw the scarlet and yellow ties from the older students and walked over to them. But then he realised he still had the hat on his head. He wandered back to the stool and placed the hat gently on the stool, blushing scarlet.

Leandra slowly filtered in with the many, many students all entering the Great Hall. Her eyes eagerly roamed around, not caring for her steps as the masses pressing in from around her would surely lead her to the front. With wide eyes, she took in the room in front of her. From the floating candles to the enchanted sky to the imposing form of the men and women - her new professors! She squealed internally - standing at the front. It all was so much grander than anything she could have ever anticipated. There was little doubt that she could learn all she wanted here and more. She would be taught to bottle glory and bewitch fate.
Taking a deep breath as the group of first years slowed to a stop she felt her hands start to fidget. All-day Adrenaline and excitement had been fueling her. The train ride up had been one giant experience. But now that that long-awaited moment - five years was a long time for her! She'd been waiting since she had had her first accidental Magic! - it was finally here. And with it, the nerves started setting in. Maybe she would be a Gryffindor like her father. Brave, always ready to jump into the fray, never hesitating, always sure of himself. But he had been horribly short-tempered with her lately. Or maybe a Hufflepuff like her mother? Kind and caring and always ready to help? But then again, her mother never said no to anything.
Before she could lose herself in her anxieties a stern voice cut through her thoughts. Apparently, she had thought long and hard enough that she had missed the speech of the headmaster. Blushing lightly she did her best to concentrate on the students being sorted before her. Some phased back into the crowd ecstatic while others seemed to have swallowed a lemon whole. Her last name began with a v and so it felt like it took forever until finally "von Abendrot, Leandra" was called. She pushed her way to the front and couldn't help but bounce her steps lightly at the thought of getting to talk with a real magical artifact. All of her family's heirlooms were locked away.
And yet, before it had even really settled on her head it shouted out its opinion. A loud "Ravenclaw!" Rang through the hall and in the next moment the hat was snatched off of her head again. For a moment shock kept her still - she was finally sorted! - then her elation set in and she found herself bouncing down the stairs to the dais into the big blue crows quite eagerly. If she hadn't been so happy to be sorted she probably would have geeked out over her robes color-changing or about the next person being called or pouted about not getting to talk with the hat, but instead, she found herself happily swallowed up into the group of blue-bordered students. She was one of them. She was going to learn so much!

EmmaLee LeDames entered the large Great Hall, her blue eyes wide as they scanned the highly decorated room. She was still a little awestruck by the magnificence of the castle itself as it rose up over the lake. Apparently, the whole castle was just as magnificent. Well, what she had seen of it anyway.
She loved the way the ceiling reflected the weather, with thousands of candles in place of stars. Her eyes turned downwards, and she looked over the four long tables filled with older students. She had read the Hogwarts: A History textbook and had read about the characteristics of each house, but she did not hold a lot of preconceptions about where she wanted to end up. Having one parent who had gone to school in France and another parent who had gone to school in America, she didn’t really have anything to judge or be anxious about. She did like that idea of Ravenclaw though. She felt like she might fit the “wit and learning” part well.
She marveled at the curious hat as it sang its song and began its job of sorting the other first year students. ‘L’ was quite a long way down the list of students and so she stood in line patiently and watched as the students in front of her were sorted.
~What a curious little hat. ~ she thought, trying to stand on the tips of her toes to get a better look from this end of the line. She had been told about both Beauxbaton and Ilvermorny’s sorting process and both of those seemed quite logical, but this was another thing entirely. It seemed to be on each child’s head for mere seconds before sorting them. How did it pick? She was fully intrigued and noted to go look up more information on the hat later.
Eventually, her name was called.
“LeDames, EmmaLee.” The headmaster called, and the petite white-haired girl made her way to the stool and gingerly sat down. It was now that she decided to be worried about which house she would be put into, not that any particular house truly mattered to her, she was still nervous about the answer.
~Ah, a newcomer. ~ The hat suddenly mused inside her mind. ~I can see that you are a fiercely loyal and determined sort, but also have a great deal of wit, courage, and ambition. We shall go with -- ~
“HUFFLEPUFF!!” The hat shouted.
EmmaLee waited a moment for the hat to be taken off her head and then daintily hopped off of the stool and walked over to the cheering yellow table. She smiled widely as the other first years who had already been sorted and the older students greeted her excitedly. She sat down and waited for the other first years to be sorted, cheering with every new Hufflepuff.
To be continued at the Hufflepuff table.

Dakota walked into the hall, her face showing exactly what she was thinking. Her grey eyes were darting across the room, as if she wanted to memorize everything. Her mother had braided her hair for the occasion, and she was constantly trying to distract herself by playing with the end of her hair. Everyone here looked like they had at least some idea of what was going to happen, and all she could think of was the stories her mom had told her when she was younger. She looked around, taking in her surroundings before she gave up and just started playing with her hair again.
If her childhood stories and her mothers advice was correct, she was going to be sorted into a house based on her personality. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw, and she was almost certain she would be too.
Names were constantly being called out until Dakota heard her name and she made the awkward shuffle to the front of the room. Until this moment, nothing had felt absolutely real yet. Now, she was forced to let a hat determine her future?
She sat down on the stool and the hat was placed on her head. "Why hello, young one" she heard inside her head, "Don't be frightened, though I doubt that would be the case with you, you are intellegent... with great determination, that will help you do great things some day. I also see you are willing to scrifice things for the people you care about..That makes me believe you are a.."
"SLYTHERIN!" The voice shouted, now obviously to the entirety of the great hall. When the hat was taken off of her head, she paused for a moment before walking up to the green table, where it seems the majority of the applause had come from.
Her thoughts were racing as she couldn't believe what had just happened, but she sat down, grinning like an idiot and looked around at the smiling faces of the students she hoped would become like her new family.

Walking into the Great Hall for the first time was every bit as dazzling as Dior thought it would be. His eyes were immediately drawn to the one-of-a-kind roof. He was convinced that not even standing outside and looking at the sky itself would be as beautiful. The stars shining in the sky seemed to be placed ever so carefully like a work of art. It made him downright giddy.
Looking around the rest of the hall Dior felt he didn't know what to look at first. The delicate moving paintings, the beautiful marble floor, the flying candles, hell even the walls were a work of pure art. Head turning wildly trying to absorb every detail, he didn't stop to pay attention until he heard the first name being called out.
He moved his head curiously trying to peak at the front wanting to know how everything exactly worked in person. Similar to what he learned beforehand the hat was placed on the student's head for a little while then it shouted out their house.
Since Dior's last name put him as one of the later people to be called he decided to look around at the houses. He didn't have any particular house he wished to be placed into. Both his parents attended Beauxbatons and his elder brothers were placed in Ravenclaw and Slytherin respectively, so he never felt an attraction to any of the houses.
Observing the tables now he didn't notice anything different about each of them. Well, other than their different color badges and ties. Everything else about them seemed similar enough, at least they all cheered when the hat called out their house's name. He could honestly only hope that his future housemates would at the very least be kind to him.
After what seemed like an eternity later the name Dior Verdoux was called. At first, he honestly wasn't that nervous but after standing on that line forever and feeling himself get closer and closer to the front his nerves were pulled taught. This was a huge milestone for him. His life will officially begin now.
He walked up to the stool, his heart being faster and faster in his chest. Sitting down the hat was placed on his head, and his face widened a little in slight amazement.
'Hello, young man...,' even though Dior knew the hat spoke, it was still a surreal experience.
Like his brothers told him he could, he spoke to the hat in his head, 'Hello Mr. Hat...um can you hear this?'
He could hear a rich laugh ringing inside his head, 'Yes, I can hear you. Are you ready to be sorted?'
Dior nodded a little before panicking and answering in his head, 'Yes, I suppose I am,' even though that was in his head he knew he sounded nervous as hell.
'Hmm...,' the hat made a low thinking sound and Dior had been sitting on the stool for quite a while getting even more nervous from being the center of attention. Just as Dior was about to begin cursing everything that brought him to this moment the hat shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"
Dior's eyes immediately went to the table seating students donning red and gold, and he sighed thinking to himself. His life is finally starting as he stands up from the chair trying to smile as he walks toward the people that will turn this world into his home away from home.

As the students were filed into the Great Hall, Ellie found herself becoming increasingly more anxious. This all didn’t even seem real just yet. It was almost as if she was having an out-of-body experience. She gripped onto Marcus’ arm to bring herself back to reality. Marcus tapped her hand to give her some reassurance. For him, the experience was far different.
For Ellie, she had a general sense of the houses from everything their mom had taught them and felt she knew where she would be sorted. Her nerves weren’t for where she would be placed, but for her brother. She had him by her side all her life and wasn’t prepared for that to change. She knew that they were very different and that might have an effect on where he will be placed.
His hand over hers did bring her some peace. Their mom mentioned that even though there are separate houses, she had many friends all throughout Hogwarts, and many opportunities to see them. That was what made her most nervous, making friends. Deep into thought, she took a moment before realizing they had called her name.
“Kinsey, Ellie”
Ellie’s eyes darted up. It was time and she was called before Marcus. She walked up to the seat and waited for the hat to be placed on her head. She held her hands together and her fingers were fidgeting.
“Oh, nervous are we..”
Ellie whispered, “no, no I’m okay”
“Well let’s see here, you love expanding your knowledge. You’ll find that in Ravenclaw learning is prized above all else. RAVENCLAW!”
Ellie took a sigh of relief. She was almost certain she would be sorted into Ravenclaw. She slowly got out of the seat to make her way to the Ravenclaw table. She knew her brother would be next.
“Kinsey, Marcus” The name took Ellie out of her thoughts and she stopped her tracks. She closed her eyes and waited a moment. The room felt like it went completely still as if she was alone.
“GRYFFINDOR!”
A rush of emotions went through her. She was sad her brother was not placed with her but was relieved that he was placed in Gryffindor. Their mom was a Gryffindor, so it felt fitting. She continued to a free seat and waited to see if maybe someone she’s met over the summer would be joining her.

Sorting Ceremony
Together with a group of freshmen, Marie entered the hall. Her eyes immediately lit up, to think that there is such a beautiful, shining place in the world. The hall was consecrated by thousands of candles floating in the air above four long tables where the senior students were sitting. The tables were filled with glittering golden plates and goblets. Attention flowed smoothly over the faces of the students until, looking up, Marie saw a velvet black ceiling strewn with stars above her. It seemed that the Great Hall was under the open sky. She literally got goosebumps, she always loved the sky, because every day it was new and unique and this is because of its origin was double unique. Thanks to her father's hobby, Marie knew something about the stars, she was curious if there were constellations known to her in this sky among the stars. She tried to make them out when she, along with the rest of the freshmen, was already standing in something like a line.
The Sorting Ceremony Has Begun. Marie wasn't worried at all, which can't be said about some folks. She already knew how the ceremony was going, and could even guess which faculty she would be assigned to, but still didn't want to think about it much, there must be some element of surprise, right? It wasn't particularly important for her or her parents to get into any particular faculty, although her parents would definitely be surprised if Marie got into Slytherin, because it doesn't really suit her.
After a while, the turn came to Marie -
"Burke, Marianne!"
Sitting down on the stool, the hat landed on her head.
"Hmm.. Interesting... I see a brave heart, fairness... and of course loyalty... Where can I identify you?"
Marie came up with the idea of Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, she thought that any of these faculties would suit her.
"I see.. Well then.."
HUFFLEPUFF!
With a joyful smile and lightness in her heart, Marie, finding the right table with her eyes, went to him, with thoughts that the hat divided her opinion about is this house would suit her best.

Sorting Ceremony
Cogita climbed the stairway along with the other students who had arrived at Hogwarts. She entered into the long dining hall and stared amazed at the wax candles floating in the air. There were four long tables spread apart from each other. Each table appeared to have their own color scheme as she saw students clothed in robes that had red, blue, green, and yellow in them.
She followed the person in front of her as all the new students gathered in the front of the room. She surmised the Head Master was the older gentleman with a beard sitting in the middle. He looked rather stern but his eyes were kind, mixed with curiosity as he looked over the newcomers.
Cogita listened as one of the Professor’s went over the rules, what to expect at Hogwarts, and how the Sorting Hat would place each student into their prospective House.
Cogita’s father had told her a little about the house and that each one valued specific traits. Cogita thought Ravenclaw might be a good fit for her as she was always craving knowledge and loved myths of all kind. She also thought Hufflepuff might be a good match too as she was compassionate and a hard worker. As she was thinking she heard, “Cogita Charlemaine!”. Her name echoed among the room as she took a deep breath and took a seat on wooden stool. The Professor then placed the Sorting Hat on Cogita’s head.
She was nearly holding her breath in the silence when the Sorting Hat at last spoke.
“Ahh, I see. A somewhat timid soul but with the lust for knowledge and an eagerness to prove one’s self.”
Cogita wondered what the Sorting Hat would choose for her and what it really saw deep within her heart as it went on.
“Intelligence is a great ally and I see you have much of it and much potential. However, I sense a great ambition and resourcefulness in you to influence the world around you….Hmm, based off these ideals, better make it….SLYTHERIN!!”
Cheers and claps mostly loudly coming from the Slytherin table sounded as the hat’s choice echoed through the corridor.
Cogita was shocked at this revelation and was perhaps a bit wary as well as neither of the Houses she was thinking of ended up being her House.
She made her way to the Slytherin table where many warm smiles greeted her and sat down. Regardless of this unexpected turn of events, she was happy and thrilled for her schooling years ahead and couldn’t wait to show what she was capable of.

Sorting Ceremony
Having lined up at the front of the Great Hall, Marcela stood quietly among the other first years. The small girl hid her nerves well, offering polite smiles to her peers as some looked around rather timidly. She had some sort of an advantage to a few, having been raised by a magical family meant that she had some idea as to what Hogwarts was like. It was overwhelming to say the least, the castle was magnificent and she had only seen the entrance and the Great Hall so far.
What she didn't know, however, was what house she would be put in. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw and her father a Gryffindor. Personally, she felt like she had qualities that related more to Slytherin than any other house but the decision would come down to the Sorting Hat.
The Hat rolled through the A's and B's before finally beginning the C last names. Marcela couldn't imagine the agony of having a last name starting with the likes of a W! Being a C was hard enough! Battling her nerves, the eleven year old did her best to wait patiently.
Finally, "Clark, Marcela" was called out, and she climbed the steps up to meet her fate. She sat on the old stool and the Hat was placed on her head.
"Well Miss Clark, you seek honor I see. Your pride in your family stands out much more than that though, and your desire for knowledge is high... a candidate for three houses... better be Gryffindor!"
Only the last word was said out loud, and it took Marcela a minute to realize that she had been given her house. Her next seven years would be spent in the Gryffindor tower, with a relieved sigh at being sorted and not kicked out Marcela eagerly made her way out to the Gryffindor table.
