2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 1

To say that Willow was exhausted was an understatement. Emotionally and physically she was having a bad time. Her hammock seemed more appealing than ever, cuddling up with her cat ideal. She watched with tired eyes as Alan's spell backfired and Adeline's spell didn't even go off. At least she was safe for one round. But could she still pull a win? Probably not. But she had to try.

Alan felt the impact of his own spell and tried to shake it off, but who was he kidding, he knew very well how much a knockback jinx hurt and he still had tried to cast it on Willow. That was the sport of duelling... He sighed, there could not be much time left, right? And there was no way that Willow would win this.

This was nothing but a missed opportunity. Their opponent was on the ropes, and this was a chance to do some real damage...and yet, both she and her teammate had the misfortune of their spells failing. She was grateful that her spell at least hadn't backfired like Alan's had, but her familiar anger rose slightly as she thought about how good it would have been if both of their spells had succeeded. The match could've been over, and yet, it continued.

The match was winding down to an intense close. Willow spell-spread a vinal gale of Ventus, both bursts of wind somehow directing themselves on towards Alan, both of which he dodged. It couldn't stop the Gryffindor lad from hitting Willow with the Full Body-Bind Curse. Down she went, entirely immobile. Adeline added to her inability to fight back with a blindfold. With their target immobile, they were disallowed to strike, but Willow couldn't move either. Their referee inched closer to the piste, sitting in tense silence with the onlookers.

Dealla edit note: Willow's critical miss means the new accuracy roll does not include her accuracy stat, so the spell missed.

More of the same. While Addie's spell made contact with Willow, the blindfold didn't seem to cover their eyes quite as well as usual, but that didn't seem to particularly matter as they fell victim to a full body-bind curse.

Addie glanced over at Alan, and called out, "Nice one," but quickly realized that Willow seemed to have landed an attack on him in the moments before being immobilized.

Alan managed to hit Willow and Adeline also barely managed to do the same. "Likewise!" he returned the compliment with a grin, aware that the both of them could somewhat take it easy now. After all Willow had missed him with her spell. Soon this would be over and that would mean yet another victory for Gryffindor.

Ah, another miss. She couldn't say she was surprised. What a duellist she was, a captain no less as she stared down the barrel of another failure. Especially as a partial blindfold wrapped around her eyes and she felt her body tighten up and fall to the ground. Perhaps she could take a little nap like this. That would be nice. It's not like they were allowed to attack her when she was bound and on the ground. Though, maybe perhaps that wouldn't be the worst. The sooner she was unconscious the sooner it was over. The sooner she reached an end where she didn't have to walk off the piste a failure, and instead could be carried off to the hospital wing.

Willow accepted her fate.

Though the paralysis spell was waning, Willow's will to fight on was already spent. When she regained the ability to move, she did not hurriedly remove her blindfold as one would expect. Rather than break the duellist's code and strike her while she was down, Alan made a nobler move, electing to heal himself as the match dwindled towards an end. Adeline tried to mimic her partner, but regrettably, she would not learn Reparifors until the third year. Their referee looked quickly between both sides, then took two steps towards the stage, bracing himself to call a conclusion.

Alan knew this duel was nearly done and that they would win, there was no doubting that anymore. Willow was still blindfolded but from what he could tell, she was able to move again, as the petrification did not last very long. Alan smiled and glanced over to Peri, to see what would happen next.

A feeling of triumph washed over Adeline. This was it. They had finally reached the final moments of the match. As Addie watched her partner heal himself, she attempted it as well. She had seen people heal themselves plenty of times, and Katrina had healed her a number of times in previous matches as well.

But unfortunately, though she tried to mimic the spell, it didn’t take effect.
