Please make sure before you post that you have learned the potion and it is listed in your Trunk post on your Encyclopedia page. Potions can be learned in one of two ways:
  1. By doing homework lessons (unlock after you have been validated for 10 days and made at least 20 posts)
  2. By graduation, in which case you learn all potions of the previous year
To add the potion to your Trunk, please fill out the Encyclopedia Update Form.
You can only brew 4 potions per school year. You can use this number however you like, be it to brew the same potion four times, four different potions, or any variation in between. The count resets after graduation in July.
To brew a potion, please perform the following steps:
  1. Acquire the necessary ingredients. All potion recipes can be found in the Potion Recipe Masterlist. Ingredients can be bought in various stores around the site, you can find each ingredient’s location in the Ingredients Masterlist.

You only need 1 of each required ingredient, regardless of what the recipe calls for (eg. a recipe requiring "2 toadstools" only requires you to submit 1 of the owned object called "toadstool.") Water is always assumed to be available, you don't need to buy or send it.
  2. Fill out and post the following form:
    POTION BREWING FORM

Encyclopedia Link | Please include your link here
Potion | Please name the potion you are brewing here
Ingredients required | Please list the ingredients required for the potion here. You should note that you do not need to name the specific preparation method for these ingredients (eg. sprigs, measures, bundles, etc.).

Roleplay (200 words min) | Please write your roleplay (from the perspective of your PC) brewing the potion, ensuring you follow the recipe. This roleplay must be in-character and must comply with the site rules and lore. You are not required to roleplay brewing the potion in a classroom environment, however, your roleplay must make sense with respect to the overall setting. For example, an underage wizard cannot legally do magic outside of school due to the trace, whilst that trace can be masked by the presence of other, older practitioners, a muggleborn student won't be able to create potions in their non-magical household.
  3. Send the ingredients to the Game Master account with the following comment:
[Name of the potion], [date on which you posted the form]
    ▪ If you have the ability Components, you are automatically considered to have some ingredients in your possession (the list can be found in the ability description). You do not have to own or send these ingredients to the Game Master. Instead, add a note to the form of which ingredients you replaced with the Components ability.
    ▪ If a potion requires another potion as an ingredient, you do not need to send that potion to the Game Master, but you do need to have it in your encyclopedia trunk (i.e. know how to brew it) and mention it in your RP.

Certain potions will require that you own certain cauldrons. In this case, staff will check your trunk to make sure that you have this item. You do not need to send the cauldron to the Game Master account.

Staff members will then review and process your application. If everything is in order, you will be sent the appropriate potion items.
Please note that staff members are busy people and it might take a few days for your application to be reviewed. If there has been no update on your application in over 14 days, please contact Samuel Sauber.

Seven Minutes is all I can spare to grade your HW.

Potion | Burn-healing Paste
Ingredients required | Murtlap Tentacles, Seaweed, Honey, Flobberworm Mucus, Dittany
Roleplay (200 words min) | Two steps through the door, and Dee had already let her trunk drop to the floor in the middle of the hallway, her feet turning left and skipping down the stairs, hair flying. She could hear her father grumbling to himself about how she'd dropped the trunk on his toes and that he'd always known Alexandra was her favourite, even while he was audibly picking up her trunk from the floor.

Dee giggled but didn't turn around, instead bursting though the door of her mother's potion lab. "I'm hooome," she cheered, performing a dramatic twirl that sent her hair flying but was completely wasted, since Alexandra didn't even look up from the mortar on the table in front of her, her hand twisting a pestle into it in a rhythmic motion. Her long brown hair was tied up in a messy bun, and she looked exactly the same way she had since Dee could remember. She was remarkably consistent, Dee's mother.

"What'cha making," Dee said, drawing out the words and hopping forward to peer into the cauldron.

"You tell me," Alexandra replied, finally setting down the pestle. "You should know this one."

Dealla made a face at her mother which was replaced by a grin just a second later, then scanned the table, taking inventory. There was a jar of Flobberworm mucus next to a full jar of honey, some dittany, and a look into the cauldron revealed what she was rather certain were Murtlap tentacles, to which her mother was currently adding a dark green paste. Her face fell. "Ew, burn-healing paste. Boring."

"Useful," her mother corrected. "You should know. I think I must have used ten jars of that on you over the years. I don't know how you managed to burn yourself that often, considering you weren't allowed in the kitchen. Dealla, stir that, will you?"

Dee's body pretty much moved on her own when her mother used that tone, already half through the three clockwise stirs before she even noticed what she was doing. Huffing slightly, she finished stirring, then turned up the heat to high without her mother having to instruct her. Her hand twitched to her wand, but she froze in her tracks at the cool stare Alexandra levelled at her. After a moment, she raised her hands as if in surrender, and took a step back, letting her mother perform the required wand motion over the cauldron.

As the potion started bubbling over the fire, Alexandra tidied up the table with quick, efficient motions, removing the rest of the Murtlap tentacles and the remaining seaweed. Dee hopped onto one of the side tables, letting her feet dangle as she watched, until her mother finally turned around with a small smile, stepping over to pull her into a hug. "Welcome home," she said, then cast a meaningful glance at the door. "Hope you and your father had a good trip."

Dee relaxed a little, smiling, her fingers tapping against the table arrhythmically. "It was. It... thanks for convincing him to come get me alone."

"It was his idea, actually," her mother said, opening the door. "He insisted. I'll go make dinner, you can finish up the potion, yes?" She paused, casting another sharp glance over her shoulder. "Call me for the finishing touch."

Dee stuck her tongue out but grinned and nodded. "I will." It did feel nice, her mother trusting her to correctly brew the potion by herself, even if it was one as simple as this. She'd be selling parts of it, after all, sending jars to wizard families per owl, and giving out small, diluted doses to her Muggle customers in form of her highly effective burn salve. Not effective enough to seem magical, of course. But better than anything else on the market.

The next half hour was spent tidying up the shelves, breathing in the familiar scent of the room. She'd spent hours of her childhood in here, watching her mother brew potions. Could have probably navigated it blind, honestly.

There wasn't all that much left to do, afterwards. Once the potion was ready, she turned off the heat and added the honey, stirring it in smoothly, then put it back on low heat and waited, counting the seconds off in her head. Flobberworm mucus to thicken it into a paste. A bit of stirring later, the paste was thick and smooth, and she let the sprig of dittany drop into the cauldron, then went to fetch her mother.

Perhaps she could ask if she could take a small jar of it with her when she went back to Hogwarts. Never hurt to have something against burns around at school.

Even in the state he had been over the last year, Flash was still adept at planning ahead. He knew he would be spending the summer at his father's stable, and that it was a muggle-friendly establishment. His father was a muggle, and as far as Flash knew, so were the rest of the employees there. He had spent some time in his youth at one of his father's other stables and knew from watching what the job was like. It was mostly physical labor, and Flash felt it pertinent to stock up on Bruise Removal Paste while he was still allowed to brew it.

Having bought the ingredients needed in Diagon Alley during his Easter trip to London, Flash would set aside time before he packed his things to set up his cauldron, starting it on medium heat. Luckily for him, the Snape dorm was kitted specifically for those with a love of Potions to match the infamous Halfblood Prince. For the ten minutes he needed to heat up the cauldron, he gathered his ingredients together and prepared the Seashells by crushing them into a fine powder. Luckily for him, this was an exceedingly easy potion, and didn't require as much finesse as others.

He would watch his mechanical clock to the second, adding the Murtlap Tentacles and the jar of Honey into the cauldron, carefully stirring five times clockwise. Then, he'd remove it from the heat to add the Bobutuber Pus and stir again, though he worried that the stone floor of Slytherin might be too cold for the concoction, before he realized that almost all of the potions made in the school were made in that very dungeon. After the third stir, he'd put it back on the heat quickly.

He waved his wand, watching the surface of the liquid change with the addition of magic, then turn the heat down to low. It seemed like it was proceeding perfectly, and he'd check his watch again and pick up a book to read as he waited. He couldn't leave, given that he didn't trust any of his dormmates to leave his potion undisturbed. He would guard it for the 60 minutes it needed to simmer.

Checking his watch more and more impatiently as the minute neared, he held the crushed Seashells aloft in a small mortar, pinching three small amounts into the mixture as the second rolled over on the hour. Then, he would add the Flobberworm Mucus that had already been portioned from the shop. He had not needed to buy anything more than exactly what he needed. From there, he would only need to stir it a few more times before it began to thicken into the final product. Tending to it with a keen eye, he would be satisfied with the finished product, it would certainly last him all through summer, and perhaps longer.

Potion | Antidote to Common Poisons
Ingredients required | Bezoar, Standard Ingredient, Unicorn Horn, Mistletoe Berries

Roleplay (200 words min) |

Reducio
Hunter sat in a secluded location of the Owlery since it was close enough to the Ravenclaw dormitory. Didn't have to travel too far when carrying his items, and luckily it was rather quiet and secluded upon his arrival. Having gathered his equipment and ingredients to complete his next task. It had been a very long time since he had actually brewed a potion outside the confines of the potion classroom, and the first to do it on his own without supervision. Confident in his skills, Hunter never once doubted himself when it came to brewing a potion, especially a familiar one.

He sat his cauldron, mortar, and pestle down. A small satchel was across his body, a new item he found delightful and convenient in helping him carry any ingredients he was planning on using. With that, he reached deep inside and took out the first required ingredient, a Bezoar. A very odd item that felt retching to hold if one were to know the process in how one is made. Hunter on the other hand held no mind, perhaps due to the amount of dirty work and items he held in the past, such an item didn't feel grotesque between his fingers. He placed it into a mortar and began to crush it to a very fine powder.

It didn't take long, for the usage of a mortar and pestle had already become second nature to him. The amount of practice and dedication Hunter placed into his work was almost similar to a feeling of art. Some could call him a virtuoso in the making of potions based on how skilled he seemed in this one task. 4 measurements of the powdered bezoar were placed into the cauldron, along with 2 measurements of standard ingredients.

Next, he was able to turn on the heat to a medium temperature, and after 5 seconds he waved his wand to add that bit amount of magic that separated a wizard's work from muggles. A couple of minutes were going to need to pass, and Hunter had a rather accurate way of calculating the time when brewing. When all distractions and surrounding noise of people weren't present, he could figure out when at least 30 minutes had already passed.

During that time though, Hunter gave thought to the potion he was brewing. An antidote became the first potion he came to brew upon his own sight. It greatly resembled how much Hunter wanted to grow and become a Healer and protect those around him. Yet, there was more meaning as to why he chose such a potion over many others. Hunter wanted to know more about magic, especially those that would medically harm and heal people. However, to protect someone, to heal them, or cure them, one must understand as much as they can. Hunter had deeper meanings and thoughts associated with this potion than one would think. It was in a matter of to have incase any of his actual plans were to backfire. This antidote was meant for victims of Hunter's future actions. He felt little to no remorse, nor fear in the thought. After all, his antidote should work just fine in the end (incase things got too drastic). With that, 30 minutes had passed, and Hunter took a jar of prepared crushed unicorn horn and added a pinch of it to the cauldron.

2 Stirs in a clockwise motion, and then 2 mistletoe berries were added as well. Hunter reflected upon these ingredients. His goal to be a Healer was pure and innocent like a Unicorn, but his thoughts and actions to achieve such a height were more toxic like the berries he added. 2 more stirs in an anticlockwise motion were conducted, and he waved his wand to finally finish the potion. He didn't grin nor smile. Hunter's expression could be exclaimed as grey as he began to fill up his glass vials.

Potion | Laugh Inducing Potion
Ingredients required | 4 fluid ounces of water, 3 alihotsy leaves, 2 Billywig stings, 1 Knarl quill

Roleplay (200 words min) |

Willow wouldn't consider herself a prankster by any means, but she was determined to have more fun. She had been so stressed and out of her mind, and she wanted to change that. So... she was starting with brewing a Laugh Inducing Potion. Luckily, there was a Potions Class where one could brew potions.

Luckily there were only two ingredients to really prepare. She finely chopped up her alihotsy leaves and set them to the side before grinding up 2 billywig stings and leaving them in the mortar for later. Into her cauldron she put 4 oz of water which was free flowing through the castle because otherwise that would be neglect, dehydrating many children. She slid the leaves into the cauldron and set her heat to medium before slowly stirring four times clockwise. When it was a potion where you had to be careful not to damage stuff she was always a little stressed. This was the fun part, she gave a half suppressed scornful laugh, truly the picture perfect definition of a snigger which she had practiced earlier.

She added the ground up billywig to her cauldron then stirred twice, clockwise. She always had the potion recipe off to the side to make sure she could reference it because all of the heats and the stirring could get confusing. She dropped one knarl quill in the set the heat to high, quickly stirring five times clockwise. She thought of Buttons falling off her hammock the other day and giggled before setting the heat to low. In the middle of potions class she let out a loud, boisterous, and uncontrollable laugh. Luckily she had no shame or else that would've been embarrassing. Then she stirred 3 times anti-clockwise before finishing the potion with the wave of her wand.

Now she just needed a victim.

Potion | Felix Felicis
Ingredients required | Occamy Egg and Ashwinder Egg (Egg Collection), Horseradish, Common Rue, Murtlap Tentacles, Thyme

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Felix felicis, liquid luck, the legendary elixir that provided one with the ability to twist the threads of fate to their own whims. It was a potion that took countless hours of study and practice to even begin to master, its dangerous effects hidden to the public as a whole, locked away in the restricted sections of schools and libraries across the globe. It was not a draught that Magdalena brewed very often, but it was always generally good to keep around, that much she knew. A small vial tucked away for those few times where she would need to tip the odds well in her favour.

It was a paranoid practice, but given the nature of her apprenticeship all those years ago, she’d long since learned the benefits of such preparedness. Granted, she did not engage in it to the same degree that her former mentor had. The man had been a bonafide kook, in spite of his near-prodigal skill in potion crafting. Still, he’d insisted that one should never be caught without a vial of Felix Felicis or of the Antidote to Veritaserum. It was good advice. Granted, advice that had no doubt been born out of some sort of delusion with respect to Ministry hit wizards. Brilliant, yet positively crazy.

In any event, his lessons as to how to brew the potion still rang true in the mind of the now professor, and in her private study she set to work putting them into motion.

The ingredients had been expensive, those that Magdalena had been unable to source herself through her own herb garden, but the quality made them worth it.

With deft hands, the professor cracked the Ashwinder egg into the cauldron, allowing the unfertilised progeny of the squamate to fall into its pewter basin. It was never quite an ordinary experience, dealing with reptile eggs, even after thirty-odd years of potion making. Two ounces of horseradish followed, and in turn the heat of the was raised to a moderate heat. For eleven minutes the cauldron sat, and in that time the professor busied herself with other work. In particular, she took to the single bunch of Murtlap tentacles with a practised hand. The anemone-like growth was diced finely, then set aside into a neat bowl. With time still to spare, she added the five thyme leaves to the mortar and began the process of crushing them into a fine powder. It was technically acting ahead, but she was confident enough that she could prepare the ingredient before the need would arise to use it.

It was during the course of this preparation, that she became aware that eleven minutes would soon come to pass. Leaving the herb as is, Magdalena returned to the cauldron, removing it from the boil at precisely the right moment. Whilst the cauldron sat, removed from the heat below, the bowl of Murtlap Tentacles was added to its peculiar brew. Then, the entire cauldron was returned to the heat, for another six minutes.

Small drops of water were carefully added to the mortar, transferred from a small beaker, until such a time that the thyme had combined into a paste. Once she was content that six minutes had passed since the cauldron had been returned to the heat, said paste was added. Then, being sure to crack and set aside the yolk and whites of the Occamy egg that had come bundled with those of the Ashwinder, the professor saw to crushing the shells of that same egg in a different mortar. The powdered shell, too, was added to the cauldron, which was subsequently removed from the heat. Then the mixture of peculiar smells and magical energies was slowly stirred and folded in on itself.

Magdalena returned the mixture to the heat, and waited until its colouration darkened and changed to a rich gold. Once again, the cauldron was removed from the fire, and a single sprinkle of powdered rue was added.

The professor stirred the mixture vigorously, then returned to the cauldron for a final time to the heat. Allowing it to simmer until bubbling, she finalised the potion with a wave of her wand in the form of a figure eight, the incantation brisk upon her lips, Felixempra.”

It was done.

7 July 2022 | Colmar, France
Once the flowers bloomed, the hot season came rushing. The day she got off of Hogwarts Express meant another additional two hours train ride to see her father’s side of the family. Four years of not meeting each other in person, Aurora was beyond ecstatic to spend the holiday with her lovely grandparents. So much to tell, from quidditch and race problems to boy issues. And when she finally arrived with her mother on her side, no one could stop her from spilling the beans. In her best ability to prevent the identity of the new boyfriend from slipping out, it did come out on the table once or twice causing the grown ups couldn’t help but to gave each other the look that she couldn’t decipher. Of course the stepdad wasn’t there, someone had to take care of the king, Lucifur. In addition to that, it would be quite awkward to introduce your new husband to the in-laws of your late spouse.

Right after dinner, sitting on the edge of the bed, she tried to pull out thingamabobs out of her new enchanted satchel. It was a great spend. You could fit an entire house and it would still be as light as a feather. If she were a famous person with tons of influence, it would be a must have item for anyone in any age spectrum. That was the beauty of magic among other things that could leave an everlasting fix. Bless her muscles for not having to overly contract to lift all of her belongings including the cauldrons that had no business being that heavy.

One cauldron out, then several ingredients in separate jars with some labels on them were thrown on the bed as well as a box of match and sticks. At least two of them were clear as a crystal, a jar of honey and some seashells. The others were a tad peculiar. They all looked like something that often makes appearances in alien sci-fi movies. She then set up the cauldron on top of the wiggly bed, intending to just do her potion business right there, on the comfort of her fluffy blanket. She was ready to start a fire. Brewing a potion in a magical household should not be a problem. Until her mother entered the room.

The sight of Aurora with a lit matchstick on her hand, casually trying to brew a potion on the irregular surface of the bed was enough to make her eyes wide. “No! No!-” Her mother’s sense of danger was sharp like a razor blade, she rushed towards Aurora, snatched the matchstick then put it out. As always, what seemed like to be a routinity, the woman would yell, “-are you planning to burn the house down? Do it on the floor and not in the bedroom!” And by its nature, the girl would respond with a whine, “But my bum hurts” At that point her mother was already starting to move the cauldron and its little stand out of the room, ignoring the dramatic wail about how sore it was to sit on the floor. Blame the long train ride almost a week ago.

“What are you going to make?” A voice shouted from outside the bedroom. Aurora was still on the bed, pouting. Nothing would change the mind of a Gryffindor alumni, hence the zero point to fight. “Bruise removal paste” She answered back. The girl gave up at last, slowly jumped out of the bed, tried to bring the five jars of ingredients at the same time by hugging them and walked out the door with a case of the sulks. Laid on the floor was a perfectly set up little potion corner, medium fire lit under the cauldron, a window was open for better air circulation. She plopped down with the jars across her mother.

The light was a bit dim, but it was still apparent enough that Aurora looked at her mother sceptically. “I thought you hated potion” She always got the impression of her mother’s dislike towards potion from the slight refusal to enter the apothecary shop. Maybe she was wrong. The way her mother put the three murtlap tentacles, then a jar of honey, inside the cauldron was really gentle, as if she was enjoying it. “Used to, your father made me tolerate it.” There was a faint smile that Aurora failed to notice. Instead, she was a bit surprised that her mother mentioned him at all. Most of the time she would act as if she didn’t hear it or shift the conversation immediately.

Once the five clockwise stirring were done, the cauldron was being moved off the fire by the soon to be third year. She awkwardly looked at her mother, not knowing how to respond to the previous statement. But knowing how the girl functions on a daily basis, it was hard for her to hold back her thoughts. So she asked, “Why did you like him?” It was quite a mystery as to why and how a grumpy quiet gryffindor fell in love with a loud and eccentric hufflepuff. Opposite attraction, they said. Just like how she grew to like a guy who cannot seem to express his feelings properly.

As if there were a lump in her throat, she struggled to answer, “Well, he was- pass me the bubotuber pus please-” The conversation wouldn’t go anywhere, as per usual. Aurora admittedly felt disappointed by the almost predictable outcome. Grabbing a jar of an icky yellowish green liquid by hand then slowly poured its content into the measurement cup. “I can put it in myself” The sour taste on her tongue as she poured two fluid ounces of nasty fluid into the cauldron. She just didn’t like the fact that her mother sometimes acted as if he never existed. Out of sight, out of mind. Little did the girl know, even after all these years and one more marriage, she was still in grief.

The weird smell combined with the consistency disgusted her a bit. It was a good thing that the final product would be a paste and not something that anyone should consume per oral. Three stirs, counter clockwise. The sound of the ladle in the tin cauldron wasn’t enough to fill the silence. There were only bits of fact here and there about her father, mainly from her grandparents. She was only two when that day strucked. Her memory of him was fairly limited and sometimes, she felt like they were disappearing. From the perspective of a barely teenager, the refusal to answer the question was because of secrets. What kind of dark secrets her mother tried to bury? “He was what?-”She asked, without lifting her eyes from the cauldron. “-Did you marry him for money?” What could be the motive behind the dark, twisted, terrible secret? A big life insurance policy was a possibility since it was a common reason. It was honestly an instant regret to accuse her own mother for something sinister with inexistent evidence.

Just as she was about to apologise for the out of line inquiry, a rather surprised voice cut in the line. “Wh-what? No!” A little bit more push, then the truth would come out sooner or later. A questioning, disapproval glare was thrown at the adult whilst both of her hands were busy moving the cauldron back on top of the fire. “Fine-“ Her mother finally spoke again, followed by a sigh. At the same time, her wand waved at the cauldron, then she proceeded to reduce the heat of the fire whilst Aurora let out a smirk in victory. And so it began. “-It was not instant, I met him when we were both in second year, he almost drowned himself in the lake because he wanted to high five the giant squid or something-”

This storytime would be a hell of a ride. A great way to pass the time for the potion to simmer instead of just staring at the void and listening to the ticking clock. She was amused at her father’s whim, perhaps it would be a good idea to do it herself if she weren’t scared of a big open water. There must be something special about the great lake, it was where her parents first met. Call it coincidence, Nicholas and her first real encounter was at the same exact place, though with a different scenario. “-As predicted, he failed and didn’t have the ability to swim, so I jumped in and saved him-” It was a dramatic, lovely, show stopping story, and Aurora was into it. “Like the little mermaid!” She said with a toothy grin on her face. As she saw a nod, she then clapped her hands together.

“-I disliked him at first, he was loud, always came up with witty comebacks that just made me furious. But then-“ Almost predictable. She knew what would come next. It must be the intense feeling of adoration after years of cat and mouse. “-in our fourth year he asked me on a date.” One thing she learnt from it was that potion was not the only thing that needed a long process to make, add some stuff in it, let it simmer. Feelings were all the same.

Then the tale continued. That first date did not go ever so smoothly. Her father, for whatever reason, flew on his broom towards the Gryffindor tower to impress his future wife but only got broken bones rather than a standing ovation due to falling. Silly kids in love, her mother casted a spell on herself, intentionally failing it just so she could be in the hospital wing with him all day all night without having to worry about curfew. They were young and reckless. Now she knew where she got her impulsiveness. This was one of the rare occasions Aurora saw her mother filled with emotions. She was happy, really passionate with the details, relieving every moment, but there was also a tinge of sadness in her words, the girl still couldn’t comprehend that.

Memories of the people you love do last forever. That was exactly what she wanted. Though the world forbade her to spend more time with him, at least she now could connect the dots together into a whole piece. Sure he was a weird one. Someone who did not have much sense of embarrassment. He was kind and caring, a person with a big heart. Her entire focus was drawn into the story as if it were a mysterious magnetic force that got stronger every second. It was fascinating. She now saw him as a real human with personality, not just a two dimensional character with a face. That lengthy recital of nearly twenty years worth of relationship in just one hour did the justice. But the main question will always stay unanswered. The one that she didn’t ask. What would life be like if he were still here?

And there were smiles on both of their faces. But then she noticed it, the dim light somehow accentuated the tears that threatened to spill in her mother’s eyes, “O-oh” and it erased the satisfaction feeling of getting what she wanted. “I’m sorry, are you okay?” A jolting guilt suddenly rushed in, that was enough to make Aurora get up and walk closer on her knees. “Yeah, these are happy tears don’t worry”. The feeling of finally letting go was overwhelming. Since his passing, it wasn’t easy to grieve properly when she had to be strong for her daughter. Sometimes reminiscing about the past isn’t always a setback to heal. Comfort was the only thing the young girl could try to provide, so she wrapped her arms around her mother as she profusely apologised.

“I am okay Rora, we still have a potion to finish” She let out a chuckle as she crushed six seashells one by one using a mortar and pestle. Though Aurora was still quite sceptical with her mother’s assertion, she made a valid point. The more they hug, the longer the potion to simmer, which could possibly mess with the ingredients. Finally letting go and went back to her previous position, the Ravenclaw then put three pinches of the seashell powder into the cauldron as well as the two measures of the even nastier mucus from flobberworms whilst her mother did occasional clockwise stirs until the consistency reached the intended goal. Once it turned paste-like thickness, a final wand waving came next by the adult and it was done.

“So-” The ex gryffindor broke out the silence as she put the paste into the container. “Who’s Nicholas?” Remember when Aurora couldn’t stop herself from spilling the beans about her Hogwarts life to the grandparents? Nicholas’ name slipped out multiple times, expectedly. She wasn’t the best secret keeper when it came to her own. Her cheek turned the reddest shade of red, causing her mother to smirk. Of course Aurora would do the best thing a twelve year old would do. She ran in the bedroom, closed the door, then pretended to sleep under the blanket. That would work. Yeah.

Groaning, the boy got out of bed. He had to help his dads cook today, but his twin had other plans. A short argument between the two, and Noah thought about reaching for his wand, but without supervision, he assumed he couldn't cast any spells at all. Billy left the room, just as Noah was sitting down. Noah sat down on a textbook, the potions textbook he had from year one. He flipped open the book, the first page he saw, was the Forgetfulness Potion.

He then yelled out. "DAD! GARY AND STEVE! Can you come in here?"

Gary knocked on the door, and took a peek in. "Sure, what do you need?"

Noah smiled, and tried to make a devious look in his eye. It's fairly obvious being devious wasn't his talent. But Gary didn't seem to care. "Can we cook or make a Forgetfulness Potion? I want to see if I have retained the knowledge I got from first year. It has been forever after all."

Steve, who just opened the door, nodded. "Sure. Gary, shall we get the required ingredients?" Another nod from his dads.

Noah followed them into the kitchen.

The cauldron was pulled out, and the ingredients were set on the kitchen counter. The cauldron was set on the kitchen table, and Gary brought up one point Noah couldn't shake or change. "Noah, son, remember, anything that requires a wand, or magic, let me or Steve do, because I sure as hell don't want you expelled from Hogwarts, or to lose your ability to cast spells."

Noah opened the textbook to Forgetfulness Potion and read through the instructions, and the ingredients, making sure everything was there. He grabbed the Lethe River Water vial, and extracted two drops from the vial. He proceeded to allow the two drops to fall into the cauldron, as it was to be heated gently for twenty seconds. Once the time passed, Noah would then grab two sprigs of Valerin and dropped it into the cauldron. He next grabbed a kitchen spoon, meant for cooking, and stirred the future potion-to-be, three times in a clockwise manner.

"DAD! ONE OF YOU GUYS! CAN YOU PLEASE DO SOMETHING REAL QUICK?"

Steve replied back, "Is it time for magic yet? Alright now, tell me what I should do."

"Wave your wand. That is what the textbook is telling me." Noah said.

Steve waved his wand, as told to by the textbook and Noah.

"Thanks dad!" Noah then left it to brew.

He went into his bedroom, and had a talk with Johnny, trying to see if Wally, Theodore, or Billy Jupe were planning anything, anything humiliating. After about 45 minutes, Noah walked back to the kitchen.

He looked back at the recipe in the textbook, and it consisted of needing to add two measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar, and he obliged. Next up was adding some mistletoe berries. He took four berries and put it into the mortar. Next he took the pestle and began crushing it until it was considered to be medium fine powder.

He added two pinches of the previously made powder into the Cauldron. Now he had to stir five times, but not clockwise. He had to do it anti-clockwise. Noah stirred, until he got to five, and then yelled out for one of his dads again.

"DAD! I NEED YOU ALL AGAIN! IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS THE LAST STEP!"

Gary tiptoed into the kitchen, and waved his wand. Noah smiled. "Thanks! It's now complete! Thank you both!"

Potion | Black Fire Potion
Ingredients required | Mint, Bursting Mushrooms, Salamander Blood, Dried Wartcaps

With permission from his parents, Pericles was about to concoct a potion in his mother's brewing room, a cozy "kitchen" lined with shelves upon shelves of ingredients. He had earned their approval by claiming it with to practice for school. While this was true in part, the main reason was in preparation for the insanity at Hogwarts. He was making the Black Fire potion, because everyone, all the time, set things on fire in those parts. Ball or duel, catching fire was practically inevitable. This way he could avoid it altogether. He began by transferring three sprigs of fresh mint from his mother's garden to a mortar, lapsing into a meditative state as he ground it into paste with the pestle. A single tablespoon was transferred to his copper cauldron. After rinsing off the dirt from their caps, he used a wee wrought iron krumkniv blade to slice a pair of "disarmed" bursting mushrooms. Three clockwise stirs, a wave of his aspen wand over the top, and he left the mixture to brew on high heat. When a glance at his pocketwatch affirmed ten minutes had gone by, he lowered the temperature until it merely simmered. One fluid ounce of salamander blood was measured from a vial and trickled into the contents. It went from a tasty looking mint and mushroom combination to something more... savory. Another glance at his instructions followed by eight steady counter-clockwise stirs. Potion making was relaxing, he realized, to the point of qualifying as a relaxing hobby. Peri plucked two dried wartcaps from a jar and crushed them in the mortar, using the krumkniv to scrape the resulting powder into the cauldron, and counted out twenty seconds with his watch. At the nineteen second mark, he thrust his wand towards the flame and muttered "Extinguo," snuffing the heat entirely, and followed with seven clockwise stirs. Once last wave of the wand melded magic with nature. The resulting concoction became a beautiful blue, conjuring a smile to Peri's face. He donned his dragonhide gloves before ladling the potion out into two crystal vials.

"Aguamenti."
With a wave of his wand and a firm incantation, purified water burst from Peri's wand, sloshing into a large cauldron. He would repeat if necessary until it was full. He had preemptively collected components and tools along a table. Before that satisfying spot of spellwork, he had gathered three murtlap tentacles and chopped them. These were scraped from a cutting board, splashing into the water with wet plops. For the following five minutes, he busied himself with grinding three lionfish spines into a coarse powder, but was careful to keep an eye on his time so the tentacles wouldn't simmer for too long. When the time came, the spines were added as well, alongside two measures of salt. After three clockwise stirs, he carefully counted out precisely five drops of Essence of Wormwood into the brew. Next came a sprig of dittany, which he stopped to sniff first. Five counter-clockwise stirs and a deliberate wave of his wand over the brew. The potion took on a most satisfactory shade of red. Though there was not much of it to spare, filling a meager pair of vials, Pericles was certain they would come in handy in the coming school year, what with Hogwarts' dangerous propensity to render its students unconscious.

Potion | Gregory's Unctuous Unction
Ingredients required | Peppermint, Flower's Head, Pearl Dust, Powdered Moonstone, Eel Eyes

Note: I have slashed out Peppermint and Flower's Head as Sophia has the Components ability.

Roleplay (200 words min) | Please write your roleplay brewing the potion, ensuring you follow the recipe.
Sophia yawned at the early hour as she staggered through the Dungeons and into the Potions classroom. She ordinarily would have tried to sleep in more, since she preferred to be alert when brewing potions, but this particular potion had a particularly long brew time, so she'd woken up quite early so that there would be at least part of a day left when she finished.

She'd have been nervous and insecure about her abilities earlier in the year, but she'd successfully brewed this one once before, so she wasn't terribly worried. Sure, she'd had a partner in the brewing process - and a talented one at that - but they'd each brewed their own batch of Gregory's Unctuous Unction, and she was confident in her ability to do so again.

The sound of the boiling liquids within the Potions classroom were relaxing for her, which was almost a problem, given the early hour. She needed to be careful, lest she fall asleep during the brewing process.

Her first step - as always - was to ensure that her cauldron - and mortar and pestle - were completely clean and free of any residue. The last thing she needed was a botched potion. She couldn't even remember the last thing she'd brewed in her cauldron, and some of the more volatile ingredients could prove disastrous if she'd begun brewing Gregory's Unctuous Unction willy-nilly.

She carefully readied her ingredients - which she'd had to provide herself! Quite the expensive hobby! - and double checked her measurements. Satisfied, she began the process, feeling very much like a super-cool scientist in a Sci-Fi movie. If only she'd brought a white lab coat to school with her...

...maybe next year.

She ground 3 dried flower heads and 2 sprigs of peppermint into a powder confidently. This was the easy part. She'd done plenty of ingredient grinding in class and in her practice with Hunter.

Next, came the part that made her purse weep in agony in the distance: she added 1 measure of pearl dust to the powdery mixture of peppermint and flower heads in the mortar. She ground the pearly-flowery mixture into a very, very fine powder, and began to slowly add the powder to her cauldron, stirring clockwise all the while.

After the mixture was all used up, she gave a single counterclockwise stir to complete the step.

"Booyah!" she cheered herself on, happy to have not gotten the 'clockwise' and 'counterclockwise' stirs mixed up.

Unfortunately, her joy was limited as now she had to do the most tedious part of the process.

She set the heat to low, gave her wand a good wave over the cauldron, and waited.

Now, the potion's recipe called for 8 to 12 hours of brew time at this point, and Sophia's plans for this potion demanded that it be as potent as it could safely be, so she was - unfortunately - forced to accept that she would be brewing the potion for twelve hours instead of the eight minimum hours, and she had no choice but to stay in her spot, because she didn't dare leave a brewing potion unattended. Especially for 12 hours and with some of Hogwarts' more mischievous students out and about.

Thankfully, she'd come prepared. She had a stack of comic books - smuggled from home in her trunk in September in case she didn't make any friends - about two feet thick. Hours of hero and villain based entertainment were at her fingertips. She could get lost in the world of Daredevil, Ms. Marvel, and even the Bombastic Bag Man! It would still be a long twelve hours, but it didn't seem so bad anymore.

At the twelve hour mark, Sophia was deeply immersed in a life-or-death battle between Spider-Man and The Spot when she realized it was finally time to continue the potion. Her eyes were bloodshot from reading comic books for twelve hours, and she was utterly exhausted, but this was it. She'd done it. The worst of it was over, but now she had to be extra careful. Lord knew she didn't want to repeat the whole process again.

She increased the heat of the burner to a medium flame and gave a quick stir to agitate the settled liquid. Once again, she was thankful that this potion didn't call for Flobberworm Mucus. She hated the stuff. Not that she was going to be drinking this particular batch, but she still hated handling the stuff.

As Sophia added 2 measures of powdered moonstone, she could swear she heard her wallet screaming for help from the Ravenclaw Tower, but she didn't heed its agony. She was a woman on a mission. She gave the potion 3 more clockwise stirs to help the moonstone settle into the mixture.

Bracing herself for another long wait, she allowed herself to be lost in the stories of Black Widow absolutely kicking bad guy butt for 45 more minutes as the potion continued to brew.

This was it. She was - for lack of better words - in the Endgame now.

She added 4 eel eyes to the cauldron and increased the heat to high, tapping idly on the desk as she impatiently waited for the mixture to come to a boil. When it finally did, she let out a short 'Wahoo!' and lowered the heat back to low.

Her breathing was heavy now, from exhaustion and manic delight in the fact that she was almost finished.

She gave the mixture 2 slow, counterclockwise stirs and excitedly waved her wand over the cauldron.

As the green smoke wafted from the cauldron, she beamed.

Sophia Nelson was now the proud owner of a batch of Gregory's Unctuous Unction.
