Detention for @George Henry @Alan Vanes | June 1oth
ReducioVolunteers: @Clair Fernandez, @Bubba McGarry, @Adelaide Barlowe, @Maggie Hawkins, @Quinn Root, @Seren Yong, @Vale Ashwood, @Monica Evans, @June Selwyn
Opeila honestly wasn't used to giving detention yet. It was a power she felt a little overwhelmed by- so... was she really to just... give people some tedious task? Her, a simple student? Apparently. Well, as she was given this power, she found she could as well give rule breakers something useful to do. Only how to choose? For George Henry, it didn't need a lesson. He knew only too well that his behavior was not acceptable, Opeila was sure of it. As an almost fourth year, you couldn't get out of things with a sheepish "I didn't know" anymore.
No, for George Henry, no lesson was needed. He had attacked a first year- not intending to harm her, but still, cast a duelling spell at her when she was helpless on top of a tree. A first year from Opeila's own house no less. Opeila, being a duellist, knew what a well cast flipendo felt like, and alone the thought of having it cast at her while she literally couldn't defend herself high up on a tree made her feel slightly nauseous.
No, what she would make George Henry do, was make it up to June. And not only to her. He had disappointed, acted against a younger student while he as an older student should be a good example. So today, he would be.
Only a day after the lake incident, George would receive an owl.JUNE 9TH
Dear Mr Henry,
On the 8th of June you cast the knockback jinx at a first year (June Selwyn) and afterwards went into the lake yourself, breaking two school rules:
6. Students may not swim in the lake without staff supervision.
8. Magic should only be used in relation to studies and extra-curricular activities or with permission.
As a consequence you are sentenced to detention. Please join me in the empty classroom on the second floor tomorrow at 4.30 pm to complete your detention.
Broom Racing Captain | Duellist
Prefect of Slytherin
Opeila would not be the only one waiting for him. It had been surprisingly easy to find some first year volunteers to come together for an afternoon study session. When George arrived, a small group would be waiting for him already. "Ah, there you are. That is George Henry, he will be helping you with your schoolwork and gladly answer any question you have." She would send a smile in George direction- did enjoying this make her a sadist?
Perhaps it was not the worst thing that she had asked for assistance in the matter.
OOC Note:
Hello hello and welcome to George Henry's detention, thank you all for assisting me here XD
George probably knows the drill, but still going through this for everyone who isn't familiar with the system: George is not in any OOC trouble, but he was caught by Opeila breaking some IC rules, so she now gives him detention.
However, he will OOC not be able to join or start any new threads apart from the ones he is already in, so if you can, please try to not take too much time for your replies so he won't be stuck in here.
The same roleplay rules as always apply- posts need to have at least 200 words, if you don't know what to write, feel free to ask the hell out of George XD
George, to complete the detention, please write a minimum of 600 words.

The Good Deed of the Day
Bubba had been sitting in the room for quite some time waiting for the Great Hufflepuff Tumbler to arrive. He didn't know George Henry, he couldn't remember really meeting him at any time but assumed he had seen him arrive. In all honesty, Bubba didn't really need to be here, he was caught up on all his work (borderline ahead actually) and was honestly a bit bored. He figured he'd come to the study session/detention to see if he could learn something. Plus how could he miss out on a chance to mess with a Hufflepuff?
After waiting for what felt like an eternity, he saw an older boy who he could only assume George would arrive. His suspicion was confirmed when Opelia introduced him to the group. Bubba was all set to wait for someone to talk when he was hit by a sudden flash of inspiration. "Hey George," Bubba called, and waited until it looked like he had his attention, "Yeah, I'm a little behind in my charms homework, could you please demonstrate the proper wand motion and incantation for flipendo?" He asked with a devious smirk. He sat and waited for either a response from George or for Opelia to throw him out, he figured either way it'd be worth it.

The Good Deed of the Day
George had been anticipating this owl. In fact, it had not arrived as promptly as he had imagined. Presumably the prefects were busy with people who broke rules that were important or put people in actual danger, rather than simply preventing George from having a little fun. He had honestly imagined his day at the lake going quite differently. The little episode with the flipendo was simply to test whether June was worthy of his friendship. Unfortunately, it turned out she was a fun-hating snitch. His test had been failed, and June's grade had been placed on her permanent record, which consisted of two lines in George's diary describing her as the world's only flightless harpy. All he had wanted to do was teach the baby bird how to fly! It wasn't his fault she didn't want to leave the nest!
"I would like to contest one of these charges," said George as he entered the classroom, pointing to the letter he was clutching half-crumpled in his other hand. He tapped one of the lines in the letter. It didn't change the detention at all, but having something to gab about would at least make the afternoon go by more quickly. "This says I swam in the lake without supervision. I was wading at best!"
He stopped suddenly as he stood at the front of the class, furrowing his brow as he turned to look at the assembled first years. Among them was June Selwyn! The others he did not recognize. At first, he smiled at them all - impressed that so many of the new generation of students were brave enough to break the rules! He was so very proud of them! Of course, it was no surprise that George was the only Hufflepuff present. Those goody-two-shoes never did anything fun, except for Jack. For the first time in his life, George wished he could have been placed in Slytherin, so that they could have him as a mentor instead of miss Winters.
He was less than excited when his hopes became reality. Opeila informed him that he would be mentoring these students. Just in schoolwork, rather than mischief, as he had hoped. Oh well - at least it would pass the time. "Just to make you all aware, if your question relates to the subject of transfiguration, my answers will be half-right at most."
Opeila would likely realize that she had made a mistake when George enthusiastically called upon Bubba, interrupting before allowing him to go forward with his question. "Professor Henry," he insisted, turning to grab some chalk and start scratching his new title down on the chalkboard. His introduction complete, he nodded to Bubba, grinning as he heard his question. "What's your name, kid? I like you!"
He preemptively stepped away from the prefect, expecting she might try and stop him from educating the children. In a practiced motion, he drew his wand from his robes and held it high, in proper dueling stance. "I am so glad you asked about FLIPENDO!" he said, jerking his wand around in an improper motion in an attempt to make everyone flinch at his outburst. He would do this several times in his explanation. "FLIPENDO! is an essential spell for young students, especially in a school like this. FLIPENDO! or, the Knockback Jinx, at is known, is an essential Defense Against the Dark Arts tool. It's useful for dealing with threats without harming them too badly."
He glanced to June. "It is also useful for other stuff too," he said, with a nod. "The proper wand motion and incantation for the jinx is this."
In a flash, his wand was raised and leveled at Bubba. Oh no. He was going to do it again. "Flipendo!" he said, swishing his wand neatly through the air. He was very good at this one. Mercifully, the jinx flew past the young Ravenclaw and sent the chair at the desk behind him flying backward until it slammed into the wall. He blew around the tip of his wand as if he were blowing the smoke off of a gun. "Would you like to try it?"
693/600 words... this means I can now post in other threads - but I like this one, so please ask me questions until Opeila has to give me detention again

The Good Deed of the Day
Alan walked towards the classroom, it had been a bit of a surprise when Opeila had asked him for assistance in her detention, but when she mentioned it would involve more than ten students, he understood why someone to assist her was deeply necessary. She had however, failed to mention who this detention was for, so when Alan approached the door and pushed it open, the usually welcome sight of one George Henry, left him surprised. He watched the young badger swish his wand around as he said the incantation over and over again, with a grimace, hoping that it wouldn't backfire back on him. "That's not quite right, but a 25% success chance is quite a good start-" he teased about the purposefully failed spells, but he was still a bit surprised to see the boy here in the first place, "George". He gave the third year a quick smile, before trying to appear somewhat professional.
The prefect gave an uneasy glance at Opeila, hoping it was not George who was serving the detention, then again who was he kidding? He could definitely see George being someone to break a rules and get caught. But Alan agreed with something George had said previously, the lake rule was stupid. Why have a beautiful lake that you cannot enter, especially during summer? Alan for sure had broken that particular rule countless times before, but that wasn't important here was it?
Alan had fully entered the room now, even closed the door behind himself and grinned a bit. "I didn't expect to find you here, but I guess this makes it more fun, you are smart, they can learn from you," Alan said with a nod. And yes he was a bit amused and surprised at these odd circumstances, but he meant what he had said 100%. George would be a good teacher, detention or not.

Quinn was going to detention. This time it was not for her, on of the same reasons she was going. Someone was swimming in the lake, they had also used the knockback jinx. She didn't know who he was. She knew that he was hufflepuff and older then her.
She didn't really have to be here, she had all of her homework done. Quinn had volunteered to see if she could practice her spells. She was there with a rather large group of first years, nine including her. If you include Opeila and George. It was eleven people in the room, one serving the detention, one overseeing it, and nine who where there to make it interesting.
The first to ask a question was Bubba, he had a unique name. Before he could ask his question the hufflepuff in the room told him it was Professor George. And wrote it on the board. Bubba asked him to demonstrate Filpendo. The spell that got George here. Someone else entered the room, another prefect.
George was swinging his arm around repeating the spells name. He did cast it, it flew right past Bubba and hit a chair that flew into the wall. Quinn flowed the chair and mumbled "wow.." She had learned it, it was cool to see it in action. He asked if Bubba wanted to try it.
Quinn spoke up "Geor- uhh. Professor George, can you demonstrate the smokescreen spell next?" Quinn wanted to have fun with the detention. This seemed like a good way to do it.

The Good Deed of the Day
Bubba was very entertained by George's exuberant entrance. He could tell this was going to be at the very least a very entertaining study session. Being someone who possessed considerable charm in his own right, Bubba could tell when someone else had it and this kid clearly had it in spades. He also felt that his defense was entirely reasonable. Swimming is swimming, wading is just walking in water, it's not even that interesting, now if he was walking on water that would've been something.
Bubba gave a malicious grin when George told him he wanted him to call him "Professor". He didn't know this guy at all but he couldn't tell if he was a massive prick of a loveable rogue. He could tell that he certainly held himself in very high esteem. Bubba wondered if he was as good as he thought he was.
Bubba sat, rapt with attention, as George gave his 'lesson' about the flipendo spell. He was very glad that George just dove right in before Opelia could stop him. He paid close attention to the incantation and the wand motion and didn't even flinch as the jinx flew straight past him. For a split second, he thought about how far he should go. Screw it, he thought, let's go all-in on this. He, very slowly (for dramatic effect), turned his head to look at the chair and then back to George with a Cheshire cat grin. He slowly stood up and started walking to grab the chair and put it back behind the desk and said, in the most goading voice he could, "Well... uh... professor... you appear to have the theory down..." He had reached the chair and grabbed it, starting to push it back towards the desk. "But I was sitting about 10 feet from you... it appears..." he paused, pushing it back under the desk, "that your aim is a bit off." He stood straight up and stepped out into the aisle, "Perhaps you need... a bigger... target." He said with a smile on his face that screamed 'flip me'.

The Good Deed of the Day

Clair had neatly pulled herself together. She had pulled her hair up into a bun, she wore her school robes, and was armed with her wand and enchanted satchel (which was full of books)
Needless to say Clair was ready for this, the prospect of having a extra chance to learn had been so enticing to Clair. The young Ravenclaw could not stay away from the chance to learn new things.
When Clair entered she sat down quickly and prepared to learn. If course, it seemed that George had a different way of teaching. Professor Henry? Really? Clair was starting to wonder if the boy even knew he was in detention, he seemed to be having a lot of fun with it.
She watched him closely, as he would say FLIPENDO it seemed nothing was happening, yet.
And then he almost hit the student, Clair winced in one of the unofficial duels she had been in, she had been hit, and it had hurt a lot. Part of her was wondering if Opeila should have taken away his wand, then everyone could walk away alive.
She leaned back in her seat, "Mr. Henry, could you show us the Levitation Charm?" It seemed like a charm that was not that bad, or at least she hoped.

To be honest, the troublemaker arriving before her back up prefect had made Opeila quite a bit nervous, especially since George didn't seem interested in going on with this task at all as the Slytherin imagined. Seeing her classmate walking through the door with her letter in his hand, immediately trying to challenge the charges put her on edge, but she took a deep breath, remaining calm. "Well, good, then consider this a lesson. No lake. Off limits. And you know that quite well." There was no point in discussing it.
That her volunteers were so willing to get a troublemaker to cause more trouble was something Opeila had not anticipated. The first boy, a Ravenclaw, immediately addressed George, who took the opportunity to give himself a professor title. Alright, Opeila decided to let him play this game, it was okay.
At least... until she realized that this kid was asking George to cast the same spell he had attacked June Selwyn with. "N- No, how about we d-" The prefect was cut off by a loud yell, making her flinch. "Henry, no-" And he yelled again. Opeila pressed her eyes shut and took a deep breath while George went on.
And then he raised his wand at the young Ravenclaw. Opeila's eyes widened, as quick as she could she jumped in front of the child, already drawing her wand- only to realize that George had never intended to hit him at all. Instead a chair slammed against a wall.
The young prefect drew a shaky breath, oh, she was fuming. "Ok, that is quite enough!", she spoke up firmly, looking first at George, then another kid- hadn't she caught that one breaking curfew before?- spoke up, asking for the smokescreen spell, then another, wanting to see the levitation charm. Had spell casting not been off to such a disastrous start, Opeila would perhaps even give the latter a go.
"No, we are banning spell casting from this room, not at furniture, not at anyone. Also, you are not obligated to call him professor, if you do not want to." Opeila was ready to call the whole thing off. I am doing this for you, children, can't you see that, she wanted to yell, but she bit her tongue. She needed to keep control here.
When the kid behind her spoke up again, quite clearly provoking George to aim again, she turned and faced him. "No. If you want spells flung at you, join duelling, but not here, under my watch."
Finally, she looked up to Alan, the look in her eyes unmistakably a plead for help.

Yes. This was perfect, this was perfect. At last, George Henry was serving his detention. And Opeila Winters had invited June to come and be a part of it.
June smiled as George Henry walked into the room, escorted by the prefect who may just have been June's new hero. She gave a dainty wave in George Henry's direction. "Lovely to see you again, Henry. I missed you so dearly."
All was right in the world. Justice was about to be served.
Or so she thought.
June's head whipped towards her classmate, McGarry, as he had introduced himself. He.. He wanted a demonstration?!? Surely he understood the reason George Henry was in detention, surely he knew the June Selwyn, the girl practically sitting right next to him, was the one who had been attacked with that very spell. June's internal dialogue was racing, none of her thoughts pleasant towards McGarry. She did not like him. She hadn't had more than an introductory interaction with him, but she knew that she didn't want it to go any farther than that.
June faced George Henry, his stupid name written with "professor" next to it on the board. Just the sight of it made June's blood boil. No. No. This was not how this was supposed to go. He looked her way as he explained the use of the very same spell he had used against her. His shouting and flailing of his wand made others in the room jump, but not June. She had expected this.
June did not expect, however, the way her heart skipped a beat when George Henry fired off a spell at a chair. I loved that flying sensation. June blinked, frowning. That was not a thought she was supposed to have. She leaned back in her chair, tuning out the questions from her peers that followed. June thought. She probably wouldn't be so upset if Henry had done the same to someone else. And if she'd seen it, she did imagine it would have been quite funny. But it was not someone else, it had been her.
It was decided. June would forgive George Henry. If he apologized. And maybe groveled. Just a bit. But until then?
"I have a question, George Henry." June raised her hand, slowly standing up. Immediately after The Incident, June had begun asking around. Learning things about George Henry. And she had learned something incredible. "I would like to know how and why you trapped your classmates under the floor of a burning room and didn't get expelled."

The Good Deed of the Day
Now Alan was here, too? And he was encouraging George's teaching! George put on a cherubic smile, looking up at Alan and fluttering his lashes like the most innocent of little angels. Of course, he only wanted the children to learn. Each student had another request for him - fumos! Wingardium leviosa! The possibilities were endless, and really, all of those were quite basic spells that he could have demonstrated with ease. Those two in particular were mischief must-haves for hiding one's tracks and sneakily lifting objects away from one's friends.
But then the fun vampire, Opeila, jumped out in front of him before he could sling another spell for the crowd of spectators! Er, students! Already, she wanted him to stop, just because Professor Henry had a very hands-on style of teaching. There was always going to be risk involved in learning magic, and if you weren't willing to get hit with a flipendo or two, you really didn't have the guts for it anyway! "What?! How can you ban all spell casting from a classroom?!" George said, clutching his wand to his chest in outrage.
He was about ready to start slinging spells all over the place. He clearly had the support of the first-years. But rather than lead the children in open rebellion against authority, as he so desperately wanted to, he chose a more diplomatic approach. The revolution could always wait. "Wait! Waitwait- they need the incantations and wand movements! How about... just, no more dueling spells? Even if the knockback jinx is really a self-defense spell more than anything..." he began. "Pleaaaase?"
He did seem to want it, genuinely. He liked it when everyone was paying attention to him, even if it meant they had to learn something. She looked at the first years, then to George again, and sighed. Then she said "Well- fine. But no more duelling spells and no spells against a person!"
George threw his hands up in a cheer, jumping for joy! He brought his wand out from his chest again, ready to demonstrate whatever the young students' minds were curious about. He already had a few in the queue for Quinn and Clair - but then his nemesis, June Selwyn, raised her hand to ask her own question. This ought to be good. George smiled smugly, quite content with how his detention was going so far.
George immediately went pale at June's question. His hand tightened around his wand, fingers feeling the grooves in the cherry wood. The carved bumps around the handle. Small tooth marks, from a dog. And at the base, a dent, where he had been trying to bash open the floor again that night. George took a deep breath in through his nose, his pale face turning red. He felt quite sure that at least someone was going to learn a lesson that day.
But he thought of Aaron, too. He'd punched Aaron in the face. He demanded it as an apology, but it had not made him feel the least bit better. Still, he felt the urge. He wanted to go over there and punch June in the face, see how that served her, see if she'd wished he would hit her with jinxes instead. But he knew it woulnd't help. He never felt any better about that night.
"I..." The mood in the classroom had quickly moved from jovial chaos to a deathly silence, interspersed only by shaky breaths from the 'professor', who very clearly had tears welling in his eyes before he blinked them out. His wand twitched, hands trembling as he tried to compose himself enough to speak. "I did that because... I panicked... because even though some of us h-had already fallen through... and I didn't want anyone else to."
He swallowed the lump in his throat, letting out a sigh. He was suddenly exhausted. It took a lot out of him to not jinx first years, so it was no wonder he'd ended up in detention for it in the first place. He reached up and rubbed at his eyes with his sleeve. If she had wanted to humiliate him, she had succeeded. He was red-faced and could barely speak or even breathe, in front of all of these first years. "S-so, uh... I guess- um, my... my biggest lesson would be don't panic."
A beat passed before he continued, looking to Opeila and Alan to see if maybe he would be granted mercy on the rest of this detention. "U-uh... the... so, the levitation charm is wingardium leviosa..." He half-heartedly swished his wand and pointed to a book at the teacher's desk, saying the incantation softly. "Wingardium leviosa."
The book lifted about a half-inch before falling flat with a thud. George stood at the front, staring blankly out at June in particular. Well, class really got awkward fast. "Sorry... what were the other questions?"
