A Friendly Game of Quidditch

Date: June 12, 2022 | Time: 2:00 pm

The Quidditch pitch was nearly entirely empty. All of the house games for the year had ended, and most teams were too busy with end-of-terms to spend as much time practicing as they had been. But on this rare Scottish temperate day, the pitch would no go unused. The stands held no fans, the space was eerily quiet, only for the sounds of nine feet shuffling about. June Selwyn wasn't very particular to the sport of quidditch, so she was a bit surprised when Monica Evans had asked her to referee a friendly game. Still, the opportunity was exciting, to see athletes and competitors from such an angle. As the two newly-formed teams began final strategies and pep-talks before the impromptu match began, June couldn't help but look around at the eight players.
Third-year @Henry Knight was functioning as captain and keeper for the first team, self-proclaimed as "The Mighty Ducks". The Slytherin duelist had a taste for more than one sport, it seemed.@Quinn Root, June's Slytherin peer, elected to be the team's beater. Her kind demeanor and smile made her an unlikely fit for the role, but only time would tell if it would be to her advantage or not. Gryffindor first years @Dexter Ragsdill and @Reena Delgado were filling the roles of seeker and chaser, respectively. Dexter's presence seemed to be fit for the more individualist role of the seeker, while Reena's height and stature looked as if she was made to speed around the skies.
@Aly Salinger was the obvious choice to captain the second team, "Pygmy Puff Riot!" (and yes, the exclamation point was a part of the name). She was, after all, a keeper on Ravenclaw's quidditch team, and the third-year was likely excited to continue to show their prowess for the position here. @Simon Kincaid, the second-year that June had a... less-than-ideal first interaction with, served as the seeker for the team. His broom racing reputation and victories made him a clear candidate for the fast-paced role. @George Rees, stalky and bony as they were, was the beater of the team. It appeared the teams would have a battle of the first-year-Slytherin beaters on top of the match. And last, but certainly not least, was @Monica Evans, the one who had pulled June into all of this in the first place. She certainly seemed the athletic type, and though her reputation for flying wasn't ideal, perhaps the competitive edge of the chaser position would be the kick she needed.
June cleared her throat as best she could to get the attention of all of the players. "Right then! For everyone who doesn't know me, you can call me Selwyn. June Selwyn, and I'll be referring this match. I'm hoping to see a fair game from both teams. Fly safe and play hard, everyone! On your mark... Get set... LET'S PLAY!"
OOC Information (IMPORTANT!):
- You have exactly 7 days to post your first reply. As a reminder, this first reply is not an actual part of the game, and is simply you RPing up until June's commencing of the game.
- Captains, this means for you, you have the same amount of time to send in your moves to me via owl.
- Please note that as as this is not an official game, we do not have locker rooms! How your team communicated is up to you, such as making a discord group, or a PV thread. We're going off the honor system here, and so we trust that if OOC threads are made, you will not attempt to find out information about the other team's strategy.
- As this is, again, an unofficial game, the word count is NOT reduced. All posts must follow the 200-word minimum.
- You need to make your post on time for your action to take place.
- Please place your broom, abilities, and stats in each of your replies for ease of moderation. This does not count towards the 200-word minimum.
- All rolls will be done in the "bot-spam" channel of the hio Discord server and screenshots will be provided in each mod post.
- All edits made to this post are purely me making it look pretty because I rushed to get it out on time!
- Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions!

Reena squinted her eyes and looked around. She was very excited because she was playing her first quidditch game. Even if it wasn't a real one, it was still something. They had named their team 'The Mighty Ducks', which Reena had suggested. She played hockey herself and she loved the Mighty Ducks movie. Although she had been a bit shocked when she found out most people on her team didn't even know what it was. But that was cool, because they liked the name anyway. The team was very small, there was only one chaser and one beater. She was the chaser, so it was up to her to make the goals without the help of other chasers. She glanced at Quinn Root and gave her a nod and a smile. They had some history. Reena didn't exactly know if she liked her or not, but they were on the same team so they were going to work together. She smiled at @Dexter Ragsdill , the other Gryffindor, and gave him a thumbs up. "You got this!"
At that moment she looked at the other team, looking at each member in turn. Her gaze paused and she did a mental backtrack to one of the members. [ @George Rees ]It was... weird. The person she was looking at had curly hair quite like Reena's, and very similar facial features. The student was considerably shorter than Reena, as most were, but... they looked so much a like. All Reena had to do was change a few things on her face and they could have been identical. She tore her gaze from the girl and tried to push the thought aside for now.
It was quidditch time.

Quinn walked into the quidditch pitch, She was partaking in a game of quidditch. Not on her houses team, which was slytherin. The team she was going to be playing on right now was composed of four players, two Slytherins and two Gryffindors. She knew most of the people who where on the two teams. On her own team Henry Knight was there keeper, If Quinn remembered correctly he was also there standing team captain. Also on her team Reena, She had given Quinn a nod and a smile. To be polite Quinn would return the smile.
Quinn held the school broom in her hands, she was nervous. But also very excited. She was going to play her first quidditch game. In the game she was playing as beater. She was the only one on the 'Mighty Ducks' that was there team name. Apparently it was some muggle reference, Quinn like the sound of it even if she did not know the meaning of it.
She looked at the other team. Once again she knew people on the team. Simon and George... Aside from George the team seemed nice. One of the other members was on a quidditch team! Quinn made a note to asks her how she played after this. She wanted to be on her house team.

Stepping on to the field sent a rush of adrenaline throughout Monica's being. The aroma of the fresh grass, the crips blow of the wind as it sent shivers to ones skin, the calm before the storm. Going this long without engaging in any sort of sports activity was insufferable, so when talk came up of starting an unofficial quidditch match, Monica jump on the idea. She didn't really know anything about @George Rees, but she have never to be one to turn down some friendly competition. For the most part, George took the lead when it came to inviting the players, and putting out notice for the game, Monica couldn't help but feel a little left in the dust. Sure she didn't fully know everything about quidditch, but in joying this affair, the hope was to learn, but it seemed that the opportunity wasn't fully presenting itself.
Choosing to let it slide, due to the fact Monica knew nothing about George, perhaps he has made many informal games in the past, and had a very clear way of going about setting the whole event up.
However when it came to looking for someone to ref the event, one person struck Monica's mind. Who else knew more about official wizarding things than @June Selwyn? At least that is what Monica felt, so she sent an invite to ask the fellow Slytherin if she would be interested in participating in the whole event.
Well the stage had been set. The players gathered, teams made, and today was the day.
Looking around at all these students gather together, Monica couldn't hold back her grin. She listened intently as June opened up the event! And with that, The game was on!

The curly-haired third-year had signed up for the "Unofficial Quidditch" team with the intention to further and better her Quidditch skills; though she was the official first-string Keeper for the Ravenclaw team, and had been for a year at that, Aly always seemed to find herself getting Bludgered off brooms and being scored on in her goal hoops. So she had signed up here, in the unofficial club, to make herself better during the time off from the official season. Clubs weren't often her thing - they tended to take away from her studies, something her mother Hesper could not forgive - but what Hesper Livingston-Salinger didn't know wouldn't hurt her, and it certainly wouldn't hurt Aly's chance at a Quidditch Cup in the coming year.
But anyway, the captain thing had been... unexpected, to say the least. Aly apparently was the only third-year on her team of four, and Hogwarts seniority played a role into the whole captain-naming business. Aly wasn't about to turn it down, of course, but she sure was nervous about it. I've watched my captains strategize during practices far too much, so it can't be that hard, can it? she reflected as she strolled onto the pitch, far emptier than it normally would be during an official game, but still exciting nonetheless.
Some of her team was already there, and Aly shot them a grin before looking around for the opposing captain, Henry. Also a third-year and, apparently, a Keeper, he had been on the Blossom Ball-slash-Midspring Festival planning committee with her early in the spring, so she at least knew the name; saying she'd ever talked to him was a bit more difficult. But she didn't see him quite yet. For once, Aly Salinger was not the last person to arrive at the pitch, and the rush of excitement at not being late only fueled her pumping adrenaline.
Mounting her broom, she glanced over at Monica, her teammate and the girl who would be her team's Chaser. Hopefully, she was going to be just as good as Cecily, Sylvain, and Lavinia. “All right, Monica, we've got this,” the Ravenclaw shouted over to her teammate. “Let's get it done!”
And with that, the girl pushed off into the sky...

A Friendly Game of Quidditch

Quidditch - it had been something that fascinated him since he entered into this magical world but the Hufflepuff House team was solid and there wasn't an open spot to be found. He resorted to learning about the sport instead - researching the way the game was played, what the positions were, and the history is it all. He educated himself on the teams and even some of the records. It wasn’t as good as actually participating, but it was something.
As far as taking on an actual sport, Simon had taken on broomracing as his official one at Hogwarts and his previous sports experience rested with swimming, skateboarding, ice hockey, and squash (raquetball). When he found out there was to be Unofficial Quidditch though, he quickly signed up so he could add another one to his list of endeavors!
Two positions appealed to him, that of Keeper and that of Seeker but he decided that his dhampir quick reflexes would best serve his team as Seeker. With an amazing name chosen, Simon and his teammates were ready to dominate this game! "Let's do this!" he smiled to his team and encouraged them just as the game was ready to begin.

A Friendly Game of Quidditch
July 21th – 2:00pm
A shiver of anxiety ran through George from head to toe as she entered the pitch. To tell the truth, she was quite excited. Well, very excited. After so long without playing Quidditch, after so long without holding a bat, after so long without even touching a quaffle, the need to play a match had become imperative.
That's why when she casually found out that Monica Evans was interested in Quidditch, she went straight to her to organise a game. Despite her usual introversion, when she wanted something, she just grabbed it and took it. She found it much easier to talk to people when the interaction had a clear and defined goal.
And as was normal for her, Gia had achieved the expected results. As soon as Monica agreed, she had campaigned to get the match done as quickly as possible. Within a day of filling the Common Room with posters and advertisements, the team was complete. Except for the moderator. It was lucky Monica had told her she knew the right person, and sure enough @June Selwyn definitely seemed to have eaten the entire Quidditch encyclopedia. Now all the places had been filled and they could start playing.
Being honest, George knew very little to nothing about the people who she would be playing with, she had simply accepted the first few to request the free spots. Including Quinn Root, though that didn't bring Georgiana any particular joy. Maybe it would be fun anyways, most sure thing she would at least try to direct one bludger at her.
George looked around at the other players. Yes, only one person apart from Monica was familiar to her, Aly Salinger. Although she couldn't remember her name, she had a memory of that curly hair flying in several of the matches against Ravenclaw's Team. She felt kind of proud for having an official Quidditch player in the team.
Another person caught George's eye, even though she had never seen her before. It was Reena Delgado. Names were usually a problem for her, but Irene's she would learn soon enough. She was struck by the resemblance between the two. Yes, the girl was a little... well, actually quite a lot taller than her, but other than that... They both had curly brown hair, quite dark eyes, similar eye shapes, almost the same mouth and very similar noses. Even their bodies' contexture were alike. And that, to George, had only one meaning. Precisely. Prank. She made a mental note to research the girl a little further as she looked away from her.
Selwyn began to speak, and Gia mounted on her broom an positioned at the same time as the other players. She held the bat firmly and at the same time delicately, feeling its weight, getting used to it as she moved her arm slowly. A grin of both satisfaction and mischief drew over her face when June yelled. The broom lifted up in the air.
Game on.

The teen is late. Henry have been reading in his dormitory that day, mind crossed if he should attend the unofficial quidditch match that day.
The teen wasn't sure about the game... he never have been a fan of quidditch and borderline loathes flying but he was convinced to try it out with the unofficial game because his bunkmate. Avery Chen. The kid was like a brother to him is on the slytherin team and decided to see what interested him. Signing up as a keeper. Same as Avery.
However, it came to his surprise that he had been one of the two third years to sign up. It shocked him more when he became captain... he didn't want it... his anxiety spiraled... the teen couldn't imagine himself leading anyone.
Knowing he needs to attend, he couldn't abandon his team, the ten would leave his dorm with the nimbus in hand and Loki by his heels.
Arriving at the pitch, looking around. He wasn't the last to arrive it seems. The teen took a spot besides his team mates, sending Aly Salinger a smile followed by a nod as he called out, "best of luck, mates." The teen then nodded to the words of June Selwyn.
Loki rubbed aginest the legs of Simon Kincaid, amber eyes looking up casting soft meows to the lad before walking toward June. Loki took a seat besides the girl, the feline leaned aginest her ankles. Henry nodded to her words as he spoke" Thank you, miss June Selwyn." A smile to the girl. Broom in hand. The teen looked around to his own team, all first years.
Reena Delgado. The Chaser. She seemed like one, lean and fast. They were in the band together right? The teen hoped to see her perform well... he thought she would.
Quinn Root. Fellow slytherin. She seemed leaner or smaller than the average Beater he seen but hoped size didn't matter, her look seemed powerful and sometimes the most underestimated could lead to the greatest of champions.
Dexter Ragsdill. Gryffindor. Small. He seemed fast, durable and intelligent. He hoped it woild be enough to heat Simon to the snitch....
Henry looked at his team, the mighty ducks, he still didn't understand the meaning and would ask Avery later but wanted his tesm to have fun that day. Naming their team and laughing about. The teen eyed each of the three, sending them nods and smiles as he spoke"you got this, trust each other and fly as one and after I'll take us to a team butterbeer." Mounting the broom, fingers twitched as he stared aboved.

Dexter, seemingly overwhelmed by the speed at which everything begun, was unaware of the bludger that George had just smacked his way. It wasn't exactly what Aly had wanted to happen, of course, but she was at least glad that ten points had been scored by her team's lone Chaser and her team's Beater was doing some fantastically Beater-y things. For her first few seconds of her first match as an (unofficial) Quidditch captain, she had scanned the sky, watching how her team played and prepared to swoop in with a diving save if needed. But no one had gotten knocked off of their brooms, and so, she was left to watch and shout encouragement.mentioning @Monica Evans, @Simon Kincaid, @George Rees, @Dexter Ragsdill, and @Quinn Root
hex colour: #38b6ff
"All right, Monica!" she yelled out as her Chaser sunk the Quaffle into the opposing team's hoops. Of course, her own hoops had been scored on twice, but the third-year Keeper was quite used to that by now; she so rarely Kept during official games that she'd lost track of the amount of times the Quaffle had gone through hoops she was supposed to be guarding. "Fantastic job there - that's ten points for us, let's keep it up!"
Simon didn't seem to have spotted the Snitch yet, and Aly gave him a thumbs-up as encouragement; being Seeker was an inordinately tough job, and Aly didn't know how he (or any of the other Seekers she'd ever played with or against) did it, really. To constantly be looking around, knowing that the other team could come straight for you at any moment... Aly had been sharing a broom with a Seeker when they'd caught the Snitch once, or really, right before they'd caught the Snitch, and chasing after that fluttery golden ball was a thrilling yet terrifying experience. Determined to be the encouraging Captain once more, she shouted to him: "You can do this, Simon! I know you can!"
Finally there was George, her Beater, who had sent a Bludger right at the opposing Seeker Dexter only to have it be intercepted quite forcefully by the opposing Beater Quinn last-minute. It looked like a good hit nonetheless, though, and so Aly yelled out, “That's the spirit, George!”
Energized and excited for what her team would do next, Aly pivoted on her broom, eyes roaming out over the pitch...
