I don't think you can access Chamber of Secrets without being a Parselmouth or a guest of a Parselmouth or what's the point of being a Parselmouth Y1? Because the only thing you can do is Chamber of Secrets and talk to snakes but you don't even have a snake pet until 3rd year. Plus, that would make you depend on finding another player with a snake that's Year 3+ and what if they don't want to write their snake? With other races/talents/abilities you can do stuff on your own during Y1.

Therefore, I don't think Chamber of Secrets would open at any point in time for anyone who isn't a Parselmouth. Unless Parselmouth is redone and you get something different for Y1.

Oh and I also heard that there's an ability like Comprehend Languages or something that allows non-Parselmouths to understand and speak the language. Or at least understand it. I thought only Parselmouths were able to understand and speak the language in the first place. Sooo that's an odd thing imo. I would have thought only Parselmouths would ever be able to understand and speak the language.

They can't speak it but can understand it- to the comprehend languages

On the docs I have rn, it's listed as it unlocks 5th year- but 👀 I don't know-

Yeah, but I don't think it should unlock for others. It's considered to be Parselmouth's special Year 1 ability. So those who aren't a Parselmouth shouldn't be able to obtain it.

If everyone can access it at some point during their years at Hogwarts, then Parselmouths should be able to get a different ability then of their choosing or the higher ups should give Parselmouths something else that non-Parselmouths aren't able to get.

You can learn to understand Parseltongue but cannot speak it. So someone would be able to speak to you in that language but you cannot respond in that language at all as it is not a written language either.

Chamber of Secrets is supposed to be a strictly Parselmouth ability/talent though. It's literally known to be the place where Parselmouths gather. And it's supposed to be hidden/secret from those who aren't Parselmouths. So giving non-Parselmouths access doesn't make sense. And even if it did make sense, Parselmouths should have the ability list look like this then.

Y1 - choose ability
Y2 - choose ability
Y3 - pm ability
Y4 - choose ability
Y5 - pm ability
Y6 - choose ability
Y7 - pm ability

Or

Y1 - new pm ability, like get your pet snake now.
Y2 - choose ability
Y3 - pm ability, get your pet snake sneak/spy ability.
Y4 - choose ability
Y5 - pm ability, get upgraded spy ability and more health for your snake.
Y6 - choose ability
Y7 - pm ability, get dark heritage ability

Maybe I should write this on FAQ actually. I'm gonna do that to see what they think.

Yeah that's what I thought but it doesn't matter if you're a higher year or not. You can't just become a Parselmouth in your higher years, you'd have to be one from when you were Y1 student. So why would it be on the list of unknown access for higher years? You'd know right from Y1 whether they could access it or not.

Like I didn't know a lot of things before when I applied and made a mistake.
But I don't know how I'd feel about changing the rules now.
Because then newbies would get hooked up but me and the others already on HiO wouldn't.
