Emma was not looking forward to the start of another week, Monday's always seeming to drag on or take the most from her mentally. So she had decided that today would be a do nothing day, and she could take a chance and try to start the book that her mum had sent earlier as a stress reliever. Poor Owlbert had had difficulty with the large package but had delivered it successfully. Her mother had sent her the first book in the Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series and Emma was excited, especially as it was a series and several of the books were already out so if she liked them, she wouldn't be stuck waiting too long for a new addition (she hoped). But books took as long as they took to write and Emma could be frustrated with the delay but there was nothing she could do other than try to read series' that had already finished or that were close to finishing when she started. But Emma had such a voracious appetite for reading that it was hard to choose such series'.

Moving through the grounds, Emma scouted for a good spot to sit and enjoy her book. It was nice and warm, the official start of summer not far off, but it was cloudy. But that made it better for Emma as she was less likely to be burned, her paleness and red hair guaranteeing that any time spent in the sun would lead to reddening of her skin if not an outright sunburn.

Finding what looked like a comfortable, flat rock by the Great Lake, Emma carefully settled herself, leaning forward to rest her elbows on her legs. She'd need to switch positions frequently but that was easy enough to do. She'd just need to be careful of the edges of the rock to make sure she didn't drop her book into the shallows or take a tumble off herself. Opening the book, Emma started humming a tune, still not over her disappointment that electronic devices did not work at Hogwarts and she could not use an MP3 player to battle the silence.

It was a warm day. She was going to do archery because she thought to take advantage of it. She said that if I walk a little, nothing will happen.

In the Işık bag she placed two box of soda bread pudding , two thermos pumpkin juice her mother had sent him last time, and two pieces of guinness cake. Practicing made the Işık hungry.

When he came to the lake, Işık started running. I guess it was because of school tomorrow.

She came near the lake, took off her shoes, bag and socks. She collected her hair. She took the bow that was behind him and took an arrow from the quiver. She adjusted the bow and threw it. She wanted to see how far he could go. Read followed.

When she came to the place of the arrow, she saw that the arrow had entered the stone a little bit. She was about to take it when she saw that there was a girl on the stone. She thought it would be better if the Işık called out. Because the stone could shatter. She looked at her rock and spoke:

"Hey, I don't think you want to be there. There's a crack in the stone and I have to get my arrow. So get up. I don't think the stone will stay."

Emma carefully turned the pages, enthralled by the world that was unfolding before her. That was always how it worked with books though, she was always drawn in quickly (or not), and her imagination soaked up all the details. Her mind would imagine the places and characters that the author described with ease. She quickly became attached to the characters, and that was sometimes to her detriment. It meant when something happened to them, she couldn’t help but feel sad. It wasn’t a rare sight to see tears streaming down her face as she continued to flip the pages quickly, trying to find out more. Emma tried to read happier stories, but she also didn’t like to limit her choices and if she truly liked a book then she wouldn’t be able to resist. Plus she didn’t know everything and refused to look up spoilers on the internet when she was home. That just ruined the whole experience.

Surprised, Emma heard a voice sound from the side of the rock she was sitting on. Confused, she paused for a moment, her brain taking a moment to catch up to her ears. “Hunh? Wait what?” Once her brain realized that there was the possibility of getting dumped in the lake, or at least slightly injuring herself, Emma scrambled off the rock, observing the arrow that stuck out of the stone. “Well, I’m glad that didn’t go any higher.” That was the only thing that came to Emma’s mind and foolishly spilled out of her mouth. “So you do archery?” was the next gem of wisdom to pop out of her mouth. Emma almost groaned in horror, wanting to smack herself in the face with her book.

The Işık waited for the girl to descend. When it landed, it hit the arrow. When he finally pulled out the arrow, the stone shattered within seconds. The Işık turned to the girl and spoke.

"I hope you weren't injured."

Light thought it was nothing and tried to go. Only loneliness was his voice. Hearing her speak again, he turned to her.

Işık thought it was nothing and tried to go. Only loneliness was her voice. Hearing her speak again, he turned to her. She replied in a monotone voice:

"Yes, I've been doing it since I was little. But I'm not that good."

She was about to leave when he saw that he could not move his feet. She didn't know why, but she wasn't bothered by it. While she is wondering what will happen, she realizes that he does not know the name of the girl. If it stays, there's no problem learning it.

"I realize now. I don't know your name yet. A little late I guess, but what's your name?"

Realizing that she was talking too much, Işık curse herself. She had exaggerated. I hope I was able to explain, thought Işık. She looked at the girl.

Emma was surprised to see the stone shatter after the arrow was pulled from it. Honestly, she was very glad that hadn’t happened while she had been sitting on it. That would have been very bad and she could have been injured. But the important thing was that she hadn’t been. Thank goodness.
Emma really did not feel like having to explain what happened. It was on the cusp of unbelievable although maybe not at Hogwarts so much, only because so many surprising things happened here.
Emma just looked in disbelief at the person. “I don’t know about that. You seem to be better than I am. Are you in Archery club?” Emma asked because she had been in the club for part of the year, and if this person wasn’t then they should be and Emma would recommend it to them.

Emma grinned, “No worries, I think there was the more pressing issue of an arrow in a stone. I’m Emma, a first year Hufflepuff. And you are?” Looking around for a brief moment, she brought her book up to her chest, clutching it there as she waited for an answer. After all, it was better to put a name to the face, so that Emma didn't have to keep saying that person or this person or all of that. Emma focused back on the person, taking a brief moment to look over their bow before returning her gaze to their face.

The Işık is smiling;
"Yes, I am a member. I think you are a member. I think you're doing well too. Shall we try?"

She held out the arrow of light to her. She had a defiant look on his face. She took off his hairpin. It was more comfortable that way.

"Hello Emma my name is Işık and mee to is the first year but I am the Slytherin. Where are you from? Are you an animal lover? what is your favorite animal?"

Realizing that she had spoken too much, Işık's cheeks reddened. She hated the feeling of shame. She didn't like to show her emotions either.

While Işık waited for Emma's response, she opened her bag and took out her guinness cake and two thermos of pumpkin juice. She turned to Emma.

"Do you want a cake, Emma? It tastes very good. It goes well with pumpkin juice."

While saying all this, Işık couldn't help but wonder if I was bored. Did she talk too much? It was just to see if it would be a shame or not. She turned to Emma with frightened eyes, waiting for her answer. I wonder if he would just say no and leave. She hoped it wasn't.

Emma nodded in response to Işık’s statement. She could be terrible with faces and names so it was no surprise that she hadn’t recognized her from the club. “That’s good, and thank you! I’ve been trying to get the hang of it.” Emma grinned happily, surprised to have received the compliment. “I don’t know. I’m still having trouble hitting the target at times, I’m not sure it’s a good idea to just have me shooting willy-nilly.” Emma took the arrow, waving her hands gently around but making sure that she kept the point or fletching from going near either herself or Işık.

“Nice to meet you Işık! That’s an interesting name. Did I pronounce it correctly? If not please correct me. That’s awesome. I must say it’s been interesting, I’ll be excited to see what else we’ll learn next year!” Emma liked making friends from different houses, it meant that she interacted with a wide variety of students and personalities. Which occasionally did mean there was some clashing but so far, she’d kept out of trouble, or at least kept herself out of trouble. She had caught several troublemakers but that had just meant making sure that she wasn’t a pushover in avoiding giving detention. “I’m from Belfast, what about you?”

Emma paused for a moment, scrunching her nose as she tried to decide, but honestly it was a no-brainer. She would have felt disrespectful saying anything else at this point. “I do love animals! I have an Eastern-Screech Owl so I’d feel bad saying anything other than owls. What about you? Are animals your thing?” Emma was excited and it was easy to tell, her words coming out faster and faster.

Nodding shyly, Emma said, “I would. What kind of cake is it? Do you have a favorite treat?” Emma waited to see what Işık would do or say next.

Işık comes to Emma as if taking a deep breath. She holds the arrow in Emma's hand and begins to speak:

"I don't know if you know, but the hand holding the arrow is the bow hilt. Don't hold that hand tight. Set it at a 45° angle and shoot the stretched arrow. To determine your target, close the eye of the hand held by the arrow, you aim more easily. "

She gently pushed Emma's hand away. The arrow enters the tree on the opposite side.

The Işık felt flushed. Even though this bothered him, she spoke without showing it.

"Actually, your name is very beautiful. Yes, strange name. My aunt chose it. Işık means light in Turkish."

She knew her name was weird, Işık, but it was always weird anyway.

"Barlaston. What are your hobbies? You were reading a book when you were on the rock. Which book was it? I don't know many books."

Işık did not like to read books, but if she started, she would definitely not let go.

"This is very cool stuff. Tell me if you want. I want to buy bunny too.

Işık involuntarily smiled as she remembered the deal with her family.

"Guinness cake. I don't know, do you know? Especially my mom does it very well. It goes very well with pumpkin juice."

Emma had not Işık to approach, so took a surprised breath in, but relaxed the tension that had arisen when they began to explain more about archery. Emma nodded, breathing carefully and making sure she let go of all the tension that she could. Honestly she wasn’t great at archery but was improving, or at least she kept telling herself that. She still hit the ground or trees more than targets, but at least she was hitting the targets sometimes. It was an improvement. She’d like to get to the point where she could actually hit the targets all the time and then eventually hit where she aimed. But she was sure it would take most of the time she would be at Hogwarts to gain that skill.

Pleased, Emma handed the bow back to Işık, “Thank you! That went much better than usual. I’ve been hitting the targets more often than when I first started but it’s still a bit of a challenge I’ll have to practice a bit more to get the hang of it and hopefully get to the point I can hit the target every time. But I’ll keep your words in mind. Should I fetch the tree…..arrow from the tree I mean?” Emma blushed, giggling slightly as she misspoke, her brain having gone much faster than her mouth could keep up, hence the misplaced words.

“Thank you. I think that’s a very beautiful meaning behind your name. Do you speak Turkish?” Emma knew it was likely they did not because after all, just because they were given a name in a certain language didn’t necessarily mean they or their parents spoke it. Emma felt like a chatterbox and talking too much about herself really, but Işık kept asking questions, so she kept answering and trying to make sure she asked questions as well. Shrugging, she answered “Reading and gardening are the top two, though I don’t get to do too much gardening here. I was reading the first book of the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Series, have you heard of it?”

“Ohhhhhh, a bunny would so cute!” Emma practically squealed imagining the cuteness of a bunny, specifically baby bunnies. “I don’t think I’ve had Guinness cake so that will be interesting. I like chocolate anything really. Specifically mint chocolate though. I just love the peppermint mixing with chocolate. Well then! It sounds like a delicious snack.”

Işık laughed involuntarily to Emma's happy appearance;

"I'm sure it will get better. Believe me."

Işık chuckled lightly at what Emma had said, quite annoyed by it. But she enjoyed the feeling of happiness.

"Unfortunately, I do not know Turkish, but I would like to learn it. My aunt knew, in fact, she taught me a little bit.

I wonder if her aunt missed her, Işık thought. She trusted his aunt more than his family. She got on better with her aunt because she was of the same mind as him.

Işık thought for a while and replied:

"Gardening? Hmm. What is your favorite flower? Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children? I've never read it, what is the subject, is it beautiful, what type is it?"

Işık has never read any muggle books. That's why he was so foreign about it. But her cheeks turned red from talking too much. She hated it.

"If you like chocolate cake, you'll love it too. Unfortunately I don't have mint with me."

Işık handed the cake to Emma and took out two thermoses of pumpkin juice. As she left, she spoke:

"So what is your most hated food and dessert? Out of curiosity, what's your blood?"
