It was a rare situation for Samantha, following classes with somebody and barely having talked to them in almost two years. But that was exactly what had happened with Regina Miller, a fellow second-year student, and the brunette honestly had no idea why. Even though she loved meeting new people, she had never really taken an interest in getting to know Regina but that had changed when they were paired together in the class before lunch today.

Being the studious kid she is, Samantha had spent most of her focused on the project they had to do from the professor and less time talking during the class. Even though she wasn't talking as much as she would do outside of the class, the words the two second-years had exchanged were friendly and Samantha had a great time getting to know Regina a little better. Throughout the class, her curiosity about Regina and her life had been sparked as the brunette realized she barely knew anything about the other girl. "Hey," she tried to get the attention of the girl right after the class was done. "Want to join me for lunch?" she asked with a friendly smile.

Having placed all her school supplies in her bag, Samantha swung her bag over her shoulder, ready for lunch. "We both have to eat anyway, so why not spend lunch together?" she explained her thought process. It would be a great way to get to know the other girl better and maybe even become friends. Samantha saw everybody as a possible friend and an interesting source of information since everybody had their own life and story. On top of that, she wanted to show somebody the magical ring she had gotten from a friend of her which gives the wearer a moustache or beard. All her current friends had already seen the ring and weren't as exciting about it anymore. However, Samantha couldn't get enough of the ring and proudly showed it to everybody she knew, sometimes at least five times a day, much to their annoyance.

The brunette would lead the way to the great hall, already rambling like her usual self. "I think I might make a sandwich today," she said thoughtfully, more to herself than the other girl. "Maybe with egg, cheese," a moment of silence as she tried to decide whether to add lettuce and cucumber to be healthy, "lettuce and cucumber, maybe chicken or avocado." She turned to Regina with a questioning look. "Do you think that would taste good? Also, what are you getting?" she asked the raven-haired girl.

Even though she despised her family's controlling ways, Regina was still raised to uphold a flawless public image. This meant that she was incredibly serious about her studies and she would settle for nothing less than perfection - despite finding herself hating that notion more and more as time went on. When the Professor had announced pairs to be grouped with for a project, Regina had been fully prepared to assess if her partner was adequate to be assigned with someone of high intelligence as her. Fortunately, the girl - Samantha Salwis - seemed serious enough about putting in an effort and Regina had decided to not be too mean as they would require a lot of social interaction for their project. The Ravenclaw was friendly enough to not get on her nerves and that was already a positive point in the Gryffindor's book. (She mused internally about the reason why she'd always managed to get on well with the Eagles, but that was besides the point.)

Regina was slightly taken aback when Samantha had offered to eat lunch together after class was dismissed. It wasn't a common occurrence that anybody wanted to actually spend time with her because of her (intended) unpleasantness. Regina titled her head as she carefully mulled over the thought of becoming more acquainted with Samantha, and finally nodded when she came to a satisfactory conclusion.

"If you say so, then I'm not disinclined."

The two girls walked side by side as they made their way to the bustling Great Hall, the smell of food already wafting through the open doors. As Samantha rambled on a bit, Regina kept her expression neutral. She didn't have any real friends, safe for a very selective few, and she felt a bit out of place on how to interact properly without coming off as standoffish as she usually did. They were in the same year, yet they have not talked once. Still, Regina prided herself on her impeccable manners and did not let her awkwardness show.

"Ah," She blinked when Samantha addressed her a question. "I'm not much of a sandwich eater myself. I do not eat much of anything usually. I prefer a light meal, such as a good salad."

Regina purposefully left out the exact reason why she had such a small appetite. It wasn't a topic she wanted to dive in with somebody she barely knew for one period. She hoped Samantha wouldn't try to pry.

Despite the other girl not seeming too enthusiastic to join her for lunch, Samantha didn't let it get her down. Assuming the other just needed some time to warm up to her and become friends, she happily chatted away as they made their way to the great hall. "What is your favorite subject if you have to pick one? I absolutely adore charms. I sometimes even learn spells from the next year, which is great for dueling. The others think I don't know a spell because I am just second year so it is fun to surprise them with a third-year spell," she shared happily with the other second year.

The brunette wasn't the best at reading people's emotions and Regina's neutral expression made it even harder for her to see what was going on with the other student. They seemed to be quite the opposites as anybody could easily see from one glance at Samantha how she was feeling and if looking at her wasn't enough you could also just listen to her tell you her unasked opinion on a subject.

"A salad?" she repeated, "you sound like my mom." She giggled at the reminder of all the salad her mom ate and tried to feed to the rest of her family, who weren't fans of salads at all, because they were healthy. "She always tells us that it is good for us to eat salads but I rather eat candy," she nodded very seriously like it was a matter of great importance.

She led the way to the Ravenclaw table with great confidence before taking place at the table between the other eagles and soon started to make the sandwich she had previously been talking about. With pure focus, she assembled all the elements of her lunch and started to carefully build her sandwich. "Also, I got something really cool I want to show you!" she would tell Regina like they had been friends for years. "First I will make my food and then I will get it from my bag so I can show you!"

Regina remained quiet as the other girl chatted away, deciding that this was probably the record for longest normal conversation she'd ever held with a classmate without it ending in some sort of argument or flying spells. How did one even behave in this sort of situation? The subject changed abruptly from food to favourite class, then to food again and now something 'cool' was going to be presented to her apparently?

For the first time, Regina actually felt poorly adept. She was never good in social situations, even less at making...friends. But she did have @Faye Simmons and @Kim Sato, so perhaps it was not too bad. However, if there was one thing Regina handled well, it was the art of pretending.

"I am most proficient in Defence Against the Dark Arts. Likewise, I also have the advanced skills to perform third year spells, and I find great joy in duelling as well," She felt herself ease into the conversation despite being internally disinterested. "I do not enjoy sweets, however. My childhood friend, Kim, he adores it. But I'd rather not rot my teeth out with them."

That was only a half-truth - Regina associated candies and pastries with the strict conditioning she'd received as a child, so it was a memory she didn't want to relive. Again, Samantha Salwis did not need to know the real reason.

The Gryffindor felt uncomfortably out of place standing at the Ravenclaw table with some of the Eagles glancing at her, probably wondering why wasn't she sitting down with her own House. Regina pursed her lips and adjusted her school satchel, ignoring the blatant stares as she waited for Salwis to finish making her lunch.

"Defence Against the Dark Arts is great!" she agreed with the other girl. "And third-year spells are amazing, you should show me them sometimes." A big grin appeared on the brunette's face when the other student mentioned dueling. Samantha absolutely adored the sport and had been a part of the Ravenclaw team for a couple of months already. The team was amazing and she love training for the sport. "Maybe we will duel each other one day! Wouldn't that be fun?" she asked her classmate with a big grin.

In pure confusion, the brunette stared at Regina. She didn't like candy? How was that even possible?! "I must agree with Kim then. Candy is amazing. Isn't there any type of candy you like? Chocolate frogs maybe? What about peppermint frogs?" Regina had to like something! Simon didn't like sweets but he did like lemon drops. " Or lemon drops?" Candy wasn't the best for your teeth, that was true. "I guess that makes sense, but still. I don't think I could live without candy," she shared.

The young girl had taken place at the Ravenclaw table out of habit and hadn't considered that Regina wasn't a part of her house. "Sit down," she told her classmate as she moved a bit to the left to make space for the other girl. "I am not going to bite!"

Off-screen conclusion: Regina sat down next to Samantha and they began idle conversation as a tentative friendship began to bloom, with the Ravenclaw showing her new Gryffindor companion a magical moutasche ring Dealla Prince had given her - the kind that switches beards when you change each finger. Regina thought Samantha to be an odd one, but in the end, perhaps it might not be so bad to have a friend like her.
