George sat up in the water, breaking the surface and spitting out a small jet of it toward June as she sat there trying to find the words to scream at him. The boy's expression appeared more meditative, nodding slowly as if the incoherent sputtering coming from her mouth was in fact some nugget of ancient wisdom he was now absorbing. Much in the way his undergarments were now absorbing the icy cold water of the lake, causing the boy to squirm and contort his face into an unpleasant frown. "I guess this is as good as the water gets this far north," he supposed softly. A brief pause, as he contemplated some of June's earlier musings. "...Do you know what impudent means?"
She had used it correctly, it was just a pretty impressive chunk of vocabulary for someone her age to get. Perhaps there was a career as a writer in her future. George sat there, enduring whatever hateful foaming-at-the-mouth shrieking that the little banshee could muster, appreciating it for its artfulness and enthusiasm. In the meantime, he'd reached Nirvana, accepting his place in the cycle of death and rebirth, but in this case death was detention, and rebirth was doing dumb stuff to other students.
"If I am the meanest and most rude person you've met, you should have enjoyed your first year at Hogwarts," he suggested, wiping some of the water off his face as he looked up to the shore. There was most certainly someone coming. He fixed his wet hair, smoothing it out on his head as it stuck in damp clumps. "I'm in trouble, now. Oh! But these are yours."
He stuck his hand out, offering the girl a shiny set of six sickles. He pondered a moment before adding a seventh.
"Five as agreed. Two more for pain and suffering." He tapped the coins to indicate which was pain and which was suffering. "Don't spend it all in one place."

Opeila was taking a walk on the grounds. No, really, just a walk! With her new responsibilities as a prefect, she spent more time out here to patrol than anything else at this point, but this afternoon she had for herself. No patrolling, no looking for troublemakers or danger. Just... a peaceful walk with her cat.
With the beginning of June, there were no more cold winter winds- it was still not as warm as it got in England sometimes, but at least quite a lot warmer than Finland. Warm enough to wear a t-shirt at the very least, to let the sun shine on the pale skin on her arms and face.
Did that mean that Opeila turned a blind eye to very obvious rule breaking on the grounds? Absolutely not. Only a few minutes after she had entered the ground, a loud scream cut through the air, that of a child, soon followed by a distant splashing noise. And another. Opeila had debated to ignore it- what about her nice relaxed afternoon?- but she couldn't bring herself. This was her job, she had told Professor Jensen that she could count on Opeila, so what could she do?
The third year hurried down to the lake from where she had heard the scream, expecting to find a hurt child, but instead she found something else; Two students sitting in the lake, playing with money. Pressing her lips together and crossing her arms, Opeila walked to the edge of the water. "Can I help you?", she spoke up to get the attention of both. "I think you might have lost your way."
The Slytherin looked from one to the other. The boy was fairly older than the girl, in fact Opeila recognized him from some classes. Wasn't he a Hufflepuff? The girl she believed she had seen regularly in her own house's common room, likely a first year.
"Any of you care to explain what you are doing in the lake unsupervised?"
I think both of you know the drill, but Imma do this anyway- You've been caught! You're not in OOC trouble, but at least one of you has been caught breaking IC rules.
Opeila has found both of you sitting in the lake unsupervised, which may end with both of you in detention, but please, feel free to reason with her! She'll likely hear you out at least XD

After all of that he asks if she knows what the word impudent means? June snatched the seven sickles from George's hand. After that whole ordeal, she was not giong to leave empty-handed. No way, not a chance.
"Of I know what bloody 'impudent' means. Cocky, disregarding others, insolent. All those words seem quite fitting," she spat her words at him, the adrenaline fading and her words coming easier now. June smiled, seeing someone coming to the two of them. Thank Merlin, her cries for help didn't go unheard. June stood up, wringing the water out of her hair. "I certainly hope it was worth it, George Henry."
The girl who came to June's aid was none other than Slytherin Prefect, Opeila Winters. Perfect, someone from her house. Surely George Henry would see justice. With a smug look on her face, June turned to face the Prefect and sharply pointed her finger at George as she began to walk out of the lake.
"He did it. He asked me to do a favour for him and climb a tree, and then he cast the bloody knockback jinx on me and I went flying into the lake!" June was shouting now. She reached the shore and stood beside the Prefect, staring daggers at the Hufflepuff who'd betrayed her. "I can not believe you tricked me like that! I was trying to do something nice for a professor, then I climb a tree for you answering your droning questions and you... you..." June was beginning to lose her words to anger again. She turned to look at Opeila, "I swear, the only thing I did wrong was trust anything he said."

"Very good," George praised, as June gave him the definition and synonyms for impudent. It was nice to see that the new generation of students had a broader vocabulary than most of the students. The boy remained seated in the lake as June waded out of the shallows and back onto the shore. The boy had two options - he could come clean, or attempt to obfuscate the situation to the point where either nobody or everyone would get detention.
George gasped as June offered that account of events, displaying an almost theatrical level of shock at it. "Are you trying to make me out to be a liar before I've said anything?" he said, as he rose to his feet, weighed down by wet robes. The water sloshed around his ankles as he dragged the heavy, soaked cloth through the lake. It was difficult to spin this in many ways, but the girl had taken his money. Did that not constitute some form of agreement between the two parties?
"Apologies, miss... uh... you," he said to Opeila, putting on his most charming and proper accent as he spoke, with a soft chuckle to underline just how much of a misunderstanding this all was. "June and I had a little bet about if we could make it to the lake from that tree. June won, obviously..."
He gestured to the younger girl's hand - or pocket, wherever she had snuck those seven sickles away. Absolute proof that he had been either mugged by her or in cahoots! "It won't happen again, we promise. And if you do have to punish anyone for being in the lake, punish me! It's only fair. I lost the bet." He nodded, quite sure of the fairness of that, and quite sure of the rest of the lie he was now telling.

Once again, oh yeah, once again Opeila had to listen to two stories that were not that different, but certainly made
difference if she was to decide who to give detention to. The girl seemed to see an opportunity- if that was to lie or to make her peer face rightful penalty Opeila couldn't say yet- to crawl out of the lake, stand next to Opeila and tell her a version of the story.
If the first year was telling the truth- something about it seemed a bit off, the shouting at George in Opeila's presence did make her suspect that the child ws putting on an act to seem more believable- then this would be only one person in detention for more than one offense.
Attacking children... that was not something Opeila would let slide, no, she wouldn't even go on remotely nice about it.
But.
"I see", the young prefect responded, eyeing the girl, "then I still have another question-"
Before Opeila could finish, George spoke up, addressing what the third year had been wanting to ask about- the money. "Opeila Winters", she answered George's unspoken question, "A bet, you say? June was it? Gave consent to be knocked out of the tree into the lake, taking a risk not to reach it and instead get injured by hitting the ground?"
Opeila crossed her arms. Yeah the more she thought about the situation and considered scenarios, the more disappointed she got in George. Her classmate was a third year like herself, he really ought to know better.

If looks could kill, George Henry would be nothing more than a pile of bones floating on the water with the way June was glaring at him. "You don't need any help making yourself out to be a liar, George Henry. You've done a perfectly good job of demonstrating that already."
No, no, no. This was going terribly wrong. If June was going to get her first detention ever for this, where she had done absolutely nothing wrong, she would simply cease to exist. It was the only viable option if that happened.
June sighted, exacerbated by the events of the past five or so minutes. She fought back tears of anger that threatened to well up in her eyes. This was so unfair, this was so unfair. Why couldn't have Opelia Winters have come 40 seconds earlier when June was practically being held hostage over the surface of the lake?
"A bet?! No, it was a favour. You said you would give me five sickles if I climbed to the top of that tree," June pointed behind her at the tree she would now avoid for a very, very long time. "And I did, so I took what was rightfully mine. I would never, ever purposefully subject myself to be humiliated in broad daylight, Henry."

"Well, there was never any risk of hitting the ground. I stopped her before she even fell in the water," George said, hands on his soggy hips as he boasted about his chivalry. There was, of course, a slightly mistake in his catching of the poor girl. "Although... I couldn't figure out how to move her not above the water. Hence the wetness."
The boy looked at June and rolled his eyes as she called him a liar. Gosh, this girl just would not give him a break. Nobody got hurt! At worst, she was a little wet, and if he could remember the incantation for that damn drying spell then the two of them would have basically no evidence left on them. If only June's annoying banshee scream hadn't attracted one of the little dementors from her house to show up and suck the fun out of the whole interaction.
"The only humiliation happening is what you are doing to yourself, June Selwyn," he said, mimicking her saying his name earlier. When he noticed her holding back tears, he let out a groan and leaned his head back, staring up at the sky for a few moments as he took a deep breath. June looked too pathetic to continue tormenting like this. "Alright, alright! I admit it. I threw her into the lake as a trick. And I would have gotten away with it, too... if I hadn't done it in broad daylight. God, June. It's like you can't take a joke at all! Even a fun one!"
He paused and glanced back to the tree he had asked June to climb, then to Opeila. "Do I get detention for longer if I try to run away?"

Well, that June managed to appear as a liar while being truthful was concerning on its own, but lucky for her, George gave in and admitted that her story was right.
Lucky for June, disappointing to no end for Opeila. She glared daggers at her classmate, at a loss of words for a moment. One quick glance at June was enough to see the tears in the first year's eyes, as the child continued to defend herself, saying a few very reasonable things. Maybe that was it that calmed the furious prefect down a little. Slytherin was the house she felt the most responsible for, so hearing that a first year Slytherin had somewhat healthy and reasonable standards was a relief.
All this made Opeila more than willing to stand up for this particular Slytherin. "No one got hurt, but as you can see, someone got quite upset here. You are not to use magic against others out of class, Henry. Also- against a first year? Really? You are lucky that it is June, or I would have made sure to leave a note about this with your Head of House." She shook her head, only then noticing what she had just said. "That is June, the month. At least it isn't winter.", she quickly corrected herself. God, why did people have to name their kids after months?
The question if he would get detention for longer if he ran away earned him another deathly look from Opeila. "Try and run, try and not come to your detention and I will change my mind about that note for Professor Browne after all. I'm sure he'd love to have a chat with you about attacking people, especially those who can't defend themselves against you. You will receive an owl from me shortly about your detention." Finally she turned to June again. "Are you alright?"
