2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3

Round 8

The wizards were off again, Meenauh taking advantage of the low vision to heal herself, banking on the fact that no one would be able to hit her through this immense fog. It seemed the Gryffindor miscalculated, however, failing to take into account Angelfyre's almost supernatural, uncanny ability to aim right before she was taken out. Meenauh was set on fire once again. Angelfyre would go out in a blaze of glory, as Galton's Flipendo knocked her off her feet and knocked her out cold. Autumn conjured a storm cloud, above the Gryffindors, ominous and foreboding.

"Alright! Alright! Pause a moment, let them get Angelfyre off the piste safely," Thomas called out to the duellists, who he could hardly see with this fog anyhow. It was why he yelled, waving wouldn't get their attention (he also liked the sound of his own voice). As soon as it was safe to do so, Tom would call for the duellists to, "Resume!"

AngelFyre has been carried out of the thread.

OOC: Thank you all for making this first duel an absolute blast. Good luck everyone, but GOOOOO, Autumn!!!

There was an odd serenity to dueling in complete darkness. It made the whole thing feel even more electric than normal. And, of course, it let Mr. Wand and himself focus on their troubles without annoying distractions like sight.

With the combined efforts of Galton and Mr. Wand, they found agreeable terms to shoot off a flipendo at the wounded badger. And while he could not see if he was successful, he definitely heard as the duel was called to pause.

As he heard his partner ask about the blindfold on his face he let a small smile breakout. Galton may have forgotten to mention some of his newer talents, so this was probably a rather alarming situation to her. “Mmmm maybe at the end of the duel!” he almost added a wink to his reply, before remembering that she wouldn’t be able to see it.

Action: Being blind

Autumn wanted to close her eyes as they came to what she assumed would be the beginning of the end of their duel, but the magical fog encapsulating the space around her meant that her sight was full of darkness either way. She heard Meenauh muttering off yet another healing spell and sighed, her sigh turning into a grin as she heard AngelFyre's Incendio hit who she preusmed to be Meenauh. She herself tried to cast a storm cloud over the opposite team, exhaling in relief as she watched it form and spark.

"Have to admit there are some silver lini-", she whispered to herself, only to be interrupted by a thud from AngelFyre's direction.

She heard the moderator call out, and heard the vague noises of her teammate being carried out. Autumn furrowed her brows and pulled her lips into a tight line. She was a natural strategist, and losing her teammate was obviously terrible for her chances of victory, but she still had enough time before Thomas's "Resume!" to have a moment of sympathy for the Hufflepuff.

She understood what it was like to leave your first ever duel unconscious, and she knew it would only feel worse when Angelfyre woke up in the hospital wing. Maybe Autumn would go visit her. Probably not, though. (That was to assume that she wouldn't be waking up alongside her teammate by the time the duel was over, but Autumn was allowed to keep some of her hopes up.)

Round 9

Meenauh would again choose to heal, and save for the lapping flames, AngelFyre's last contribution to the duel, nothing would counter the return of energy to her system. That was not for lack of trying, Autumn's bout of fire coming quite close to the Gryffindor--an impressive feat, what with the fog--but it seemed Meenauh had already had her fill of fire and wasn't about to be touched by any more.

Galton, meanwhile, used his impressive prowess to get two birds with one stone. The first stream of his Ventus would send the crackling storm cloud away from him and his partner and over Autumn. The second would go more directly for the girl and very narrowly hit, leaving her about half off-balance. Perhaps the spell had helped the fog go away too, or maybe it was already dispersing, but the platform would once again be clear.

Spectator Thread

His own ability to duel with his eyes covered was beginning to surprise even himself. Of course, with all his vanity, he knew he could probably do it, but the reality of the situation was new. Fog and smoke was one thing, but total darkness was another story completely.

Best not dwell on it too much though. If his mind wandered too far his conversation with Mr. Wand would suffer, and we knew what that would mean. The situation could be explored after the duel, time now was for dueling.

Action: Dancing in the darkness

Autumn had thought that maybe, because she was fighting in an unevenly matched duel with her teammate carted off to the hospital wing, the universe owed her a win. Not the win (she knew better than that), but just a win; something small, like the storm clouds she had summoned above her opponents' heads staying there.

Clearly, the universe had a different idea.

This was the conclusion Autumn reached as she watched Meenauh infuriatingly healing herself yet again. This was the conclusion she reached as the magical fire exiting her wand missed her target. The conclusion she reached as Galton sent powerful winds her way, moving her storm cloud away over to her side of the podium and giving her uncomfortable memories of past duels.

She began letting go of the stubbornness and the determination. She just wanted the duel to be over, win or loss, conscious or not. Maybe the universe didn't owe her any wins, but at the very least, it owed her an end. Still, her pride was as strong as ever. Maybe, even if she was bound to lose or be knocked out, she could still go out fighting. (Just maybe.)

Round 10

A series of swings and misses seemed to be the name of the game for this exchange of spells. Galton's Obscuro and Meenauh's Flipendo went off without a hitch for the older pair, though Autumn refused to be caught unaware and dodged both spells with some considerable room to spare even despite the winds that marginally impaired her ability to evade. Even with the odds against her, Autumn sent a Mimblewimble across the piste with ease, just barely missing Meenauh by a hair. It seemed that this Hufflepuff would not be going down without a fight.
