Hadashi hid a smirk. As expected, Pride resorted to base name calling. He had to wonder how low some Westerners were willing to sink just to preserve their precious egos.

Just to make things worse, Chikao Narumi also decided to come by. He looked exhausted. Hadashi concluded he likely passed out from overexertion at his martial arts classes. That was something he could accept. Passing out from exhaustion is beyond one's control, after all.

But then. The little shit not only started on about how he wasn't gold yet, AND used incorrect honorifics with the sole reason being to piss him off.
Bakugo also seemed to be trying to get his attention. Or more, it seemed like he was trying to DIVERT his attention to him.
Hadashi was not that easy to fool.

"Oh, Narumi. Your robes look better. Darker. I knew you could do it."

Hadashi still despised Pride's attitude, but he knew a riling attempt when he saw one. He knew perfectly well that Pride would stand little chance in a duel with him.
Made perfect sense that Pride couldn't seem to find Hadashi's name. With his arrogance, he probably stopped at his own name. But naturally, Pride was beneath him. In more ways than the grade sheets.

No. Hadashi, we don't think like that.

Hadashi walked to the sheet himself.

"Having trouble finding me? Perhaps you simply didn't look high enough..."
Hadashi looked himself and, sure enough. Top marks. The top spot was his.
Pride swelled within him. No not like that, no. Gross. Stop that.
Surely he must be close to gold robes by now.

Hadashi refused to make a massive show about it. He was not that kind of person. Instead, he simply said,
"Shouldn't you all be in bed?"

Roleplaying as Akira Shimizu from Mahoutokoro
Outfit: Navy Uniform
Akira finally looked up from his completed Charms assignment with a sense of accomplishment, only to glimpse the darkness that loomed outside the window of the empty classroom in which he sat. His books and paper were merely lit by the flickering candlelight, which was slowly dying out. He glanced at the time, and swore under his breath as he noticed it was later than he thought it would be. In a few deft movements, he packed his bag and walked into the corridors, taking a shortcut through the one in which the exam results were posted.

It seemed that a small crowd had thought to check their grades at this hour, to his utter annoyance. Nevertheless, he resolved to check what he wanted to see before heading towards his dorm. As he approached the board, he noticed a few familiar faces. There was Puraido-senpai, the transfer student who had somehow got chosen by the Goblet of Fire as Mahoutokoro's Champion. Did that cup even know what it was doing? Apparently not -- otherwise, it would've chosen a born-and-bred Japanese student, not some gaijin (foreigner) who decided to show up at their school several months ago because he was likely booted out of the school in which he belonged, which happened to be a circus of an institution. He was standing next to Bakugo-san, who Akira was somewhat acquainted with, and not half-bad, despite his exuberant cheerfulness. However, he was slowly beginning to discover that Hiro's life was not all sunshine and roses. There was Hitoshi-senpai, whom he admired as an accomplished duelist on their team. There was Yamamura-san, who he deemed as a respectable classmate with goals in mind and an unwavering will. Perhaps, she would even be a suitable study partner, one day. There was also Hiroi-san, who seemed to be generally likeable, and whose bubbly personality was somewhat similar to that of Bakugo-san. Akira made a note to steer clear of her.

There was also Narumi-san -- why this boy was even looking at his grades? Akira couldn't guess. That sloth of a boy who squandered his time and talents... Wait- were his robes actually turning purple? He couldn't help but stare at Narumi's robes as the boy walked in the other direction -- something that Hitoshi-senpai seemed to notice as well. Akira didn't know whether to smile proudly at Narumi's accomplishment or sneer with the sweet taste of retributive justice and self-satisfaction. After all, Hitoshi-senpai's punishment was successfully dealt as part of the aftermath the duel between Narumi and Akira, in which Akira completely dominated the poor boy. In the end, Akira decided that his hatred for the boy surpassed the bonds of their old friendship, which was in smithereens.

"Congratulations, Narumi-san," he would smile coldly -- a grin that did not reach the eyes. "You must be pleased with yourself." Apparently, Narumi was not, if that annoyed expression he wore was any indication. However, Akira couldn't help but taunt him. From the eyes of anyone else -- how could they possibly find fault with his words, if they didn't understand Narumi and Akira's relationship? It looked as if Akira was politely congratulating his classmate on his latest accomplishment, nothing more.

He glanced as his own grades, and grit is teeth with annoyance. He remained right where he was. Too bad, it seemed that gold wasn't within his reach this semester. Dark brown eyes quickly scanned the rest of the board, and a poster caught his eye, announcing Aryaan Shamsi as Mahoutokoro's Champion of the Hexwizard Tournament. At this, his eyes narrowed as he was reminded of their school's humiliation (in Akira's own eyes). Shamsi was nothing but rude and a disappointment, a boy with complete disregard for rules and the way in which Mahoutokoro -- the most elite school of Japan -- operated. Another gaijin who was unfit to carry the honorable title of his school's Champion. Why wasn't a model student and talented duelist like Hitoshi-senpai, or even Akira himself, chosen instead? He stared at that poster with obvious distaste, and would've said something to Hitoshi-senpai about it, if half the school wasn't crowding around the board already.

Instead, he turned to his senpai with a slight bow of his head, in response to his comment about them being out late. "Forgive me, Hitoshi-senpai," he responded politely. "I was just on my way to my dorm after a late night of studying. I should probably get going. Bakugo-san, you're going in that direction too, right?" he added, hoping that Hitoshi-senpai would spare Hiro any hard words or punishment if it was clear that the two of them would be leaving soon, since Akira knew that his senpai thought well of Akira himself and was unlikely to scold him. A little extension of protection on Akira's part to Hiro, if you will. If any other classmates felt inclined, they could follow along.

Akira will leave the thread in my next post, unless stopped by interactions with him.

A sigh escaped his lips.

Hiro didn't know what to do. He wanted everyone to get along with eachother.

But that was easier said than done. Ever since that trip to Hogwarts back in the fall... Chikao had told him about what had happened before. And Hiro had been trying to figure out what to do ever since. Not that he needed to do anything but inside he couldn't help but feel bad about leaving things the way they were. He knew they both wanted to reconcile but at the same time also knew it wouldn't be that easy for them to do so. Things had been said before.

Things had been done. And now, things were in pieces. Pieces that were left to Hiro to pick up and try to piece back together and somehow come up with a way to mend things between them. And this was just regarding Chikao and Akira. Then there was the rivalry between Hadashi and Mathias. Yet another sigh escaped his lips. Mathias was really pushing things all the time. Hiro wondered why he did this. There was more to the boy than met the eye at first.

He was distracted when Akira came up to him.

Lovely. Now everyone who had a beef with anyone at Mahoutokoro in SNACBASH was there.

Wait. No. Aryaan wasn't there yet. Good. If Aryaan had been there, Hiro would have been sure someone would have erupted and that would have been bad to witness.

As Akira spoke, Hiro regarded him for a moment. Akira's eyes looked different to him, they looked colder. Much like his own. Albeit without the coldness. But it was a smile similar to the ones he always put forth, ones that were fake. Ah, he was addressing Chikao. No wonder. Hiro sighed as he stared down at the ground for a brief moment. No words were spoken, as there wasn't much for him to say right now. He didn't know how to fix all this between them.

Not yet.

As Akira spoke his last name, or rather his surname, Hiro looked up at him.

Right. Now there was another decision to be made. Stay or leave with Akira? The thought was tempting to leave with him but could he really leave Mathias like this? Hiro paused but then as Akira met his eyes, he nodded and headed over to him. When Akira looked at him like that, Hiro couldn't say no to him. He wasn't sure why that was, he just knew he'd probably regret it if he didn't give in to him. When Hiro reached Akira, he smiled and came a bit closer.

Reaching out, he slung an arm over Akira's shoulder and leaned forward to peck his cheek. "Missed you." Hiro said with a grin. It was hard to tell what his intentions were. Was he simply teasing him like he did with a lot of other people, or was he serious? But then again, Hiro had never really kissed anyone. On the cheek or otherwise. Akira was the only one he ever did that to. Of course, Hiro expected Akira to blush, stammer or smack him in response.

It was their thing that they did together.

Even if he didn't, Hiro would love that too! Whatever Akira's reaction was would be great.

Ayako was walking away when a soft voice pulled her attention from the dorms in the distance. It was Chi.

"Ayako-san! Narumi-san! Hi! How are you? Would you like to come flying with me?"

She turned, looked over to Chikao and then down to Chi. It was really late. She really didn't want to get into any trouble, so going to the dorms and getting to bed was definitely her best option here, but still. The way Chi asked her to go flying with her was so vulnerable. Before she could answer, though, Hiro returned her greeting.

"Ayako! What are you doing up so late at night?"

"I was maintaining the archery dojo and its equipment," she briefly explained. She turned back to Chi as Hiro addressed her.

"You just finish flying practice? Do you need any partners?"

Well, that decision was officially made for her. It looked like she was going flying. It wasn't such a horrible fate. Though she would be awake a bit later than she'd planned, at least she wouldn't be wasting the time. Flying practice was a worthwhile endeavor, and if Hiro came along, it could benefit not only them individually, but also the quidditch team, with both beaters coming along and a chaser.

Still, she owed Hitoshi-senpai an explanation at least.

"Apologies, Hitoshi-senpai. I was helping to maintain the archery dojo. Cleaning it and such. I was just on my way for some last minute flying practice before bed. If the team is going to be playing overseas this summer, we're going to need all the practice we can get."

Ayako frowned and sighed impatiently as Hiro decided to harass Shimizu, going so far as to kiss the boy's cheek. Hiro's eccentricities had grown on her, but even then her patience had limits. She grabbed Hiro's arm and pulled him along toward the dorms where she had previously addressed Chi.

"Shimizu-san, you're welcome to join us if you like, but I must fetch my broom first."

It couldn't hurt to have more practice-partners, and dodging the other flyers mid-air in the darkness of night was wonderful practice. Especially given the horrible weather conditions in Scotland. It was highly likely that they would be playing with little visibility anyway. Also, Shimizu was on the school's dueling team, so if nothing else, he could cast spells at them while they attempted to dodge. That way it could benefit them all, including him.

Regardless, she'd need her broom first, so she turned back toward the dorms, promising Chi that she would return shortly.

Narumi continued to walk, lifting his hand in the air doing a waving motion, but in a way as to push something off rather than say goodbye: "My grades mean little to me. Grades can't help people, they only cause conflict. Besides, my mother teaches me enough about herbal medicines as is." Despite not moving his head, it was clear his message was directed towards Pride.

Narumi's fist were in his robes, but the lining of clenched fist could slightly be seen as he turned to face towards Hitoshi. Narumi knew he wasn't in the right for trying to start a fight with his senpai, but some people just really got on his nerves sometimes: "Don't worry senpai, I'll make sure my robes fall back to lavendar just for you. Would you like to join me? Afterall, Gold wouldn't suit someone who wasn't chosen as our schools champion. Also I think it's more of the fact we didn't look low enough, not high enough," Narumi gave a devilish grin towards Hadashi. Stopping in his tracks, and slowly approaching to close the gap between the two of them in case things got more and more heated. Despite Narumi's lazy nature, his guard wasn't always down; especially since Hitoshi decided to make a comment that only annoyed him. As such, Narumi gave a cheeky and sly comment back to possibly rub more salt in the fact that despite how perfect Hadashi was, he failed to be a champion or own gold robes.

Eventually Narumi stopped in his tracks, keeping an even enough distance between himself, Hitoshi, Bakugo, and Pride. Enough distance to where a full out sprint could allow Narumi to land a hit, but not too little to where he'd cause someone to be on guard.

Narumi relaxed a little as Yamamura and Hiroi arrived to the scene. Surprised to hear his name be spoken by both of them, he gave a more warming smile and chuckle towards them. Narumi didn't feel extremely close with the two of them, but he felt there was reason. He didn't want to get between the relationship between Bakugo and his other friends and Narumi had an itching feeling he sometimes caused unease in the two of them. Still, he greeted them with a short one-motioned wave and turned his head back towards the group of people. Narumi felt intrigued by the number of students gathering at such an hour and wondered if he was really that late. Either way, he wasn't going to apologize to someone like Hadashi for being up at such a time: "Apologies aren't necessary Yamamura-chan-" Narumi stopped his wording a bit early. He gave a deep glare as he saw Shimizu approaching towards the rest of them.

"Pleased? As if, how could I be pleased with myself when you didn't get first place Shimizu-chan? Let me guess, at some point during the exam you got extremely irritated and decided to hide it internally. Then you got even more frustrated when you saw me finished and sleeping on my desk," Narumi chuckled a bit at Shimizu. He gave just as much of a cold smile as Shimizu did, making sure his taunt didn't go unanswerd.

Honestly Narumi was prepared to slam another fist into Shimizu's stomach, but he felt the water in him only simmer as he looked at him. Soon Narumi felt uneased and began to avoid eye contact with everyone in the area. His eyes either shifted about or faced the ground. He wanted to blame Shimizu, but as Hiro pecked Shimizu on the cheek he could only sigh and blame himself. Narumi was happy for the two of them, and even chuckled as Yamamura began to try and drag Bakugo away. "Oi Shimizu-kun. Did you know the ancient greeks once believed humans were two bodies stuck togethor? Look it up sometime, help you with some literature next time." An odd story to bring up, but Chikao felt he had enough talk for the day and didn't feel the most welcomed.

"Sorry, I got some sleep to catch up on and I'd rather not hurt anyone tonight," a comment towards flying with the others. As Narumi walked away he turned his head towards the rest, again giving off a smile that felt off. It was hard to tell if Narumi enjoyed the thought of accidentially harming others. Either way, he didn't want to bother anyone for the night. Giving Bakugo and Shimizu some time and fun with Yamamura and Hiroi seemed nice.

Yet again, Narumi stopped in his tracks. He wondered if Hitoshi was going to let such a thing as training occur. Certainly it could possibly be permitted, but was that really necessary at such a time as this? Narumi turned his head towards Hitoshi trying to think of something to divert his attention and focus on Narumi. Looking over his clothes, he wasn't exactly sure what a "One Piece" was, but figured it was enough information to tell that Hitoshi was possibly a fan.

Being the little brat he was, Narumi stayed put and decides to spend the night aggrevating Hitoshi more and use a term Pride had said, "One Piece must be really lame if your into it, Kisama."

As soon as he approached, Hiro jumped him. Really, his fearsome attacks of affection would've KO'd anyone else or sent them melting into a heated mess, but Akira Shimizu was strong, or so he told himself. He lifted a hand to quickly form a barrier to his face against any repeated attacks, lips pressed tightly int0 a thin line of annoyance and eyes rolling to hopefully show his "oh-so-obvious" discontent. In actuality, he had almost gotten used to Hiro's repeated attacks of cupid's bow and arrows at this point, but his pride couldn't simply let the pink-haired boy win.

"Bakugo-san. Hands and lips to yourself, please," he would utter in an expressionless, matter-of-fact tone in response, yet he made no further movement to shake Hiro's grasp. As Yamamura-san moved to grab Hiro from the other side, Akira would only stumble sideways from Hiro's tight hold.

He considered the girl's offer to practice with them, and almost wished he could go, but habit won in the end. "Thank you for the invite, Yamamura-san," he responded, genuinely appreciative of her offer, "but it's late for me and I should probably return to the dorms soon. Perhaps we can practice together another day during daylight hours." He wouldn't mind getting to know the quidditch players and broom racers a bit better, when his schedule allowed, and perhaps practice a few spells as they flew. "Bakugo-san, you can go ahead without me," he said to Hiro, not willing to be the reason to keep him from his fun if that's what Hiro wanted.

It was then that all hell broke loose in the form of words from Narumi's mouth. The normally-polite boy turned to bare his teeth at Narumi. What was it with this insolent boy? Talking back to Hitoshi-senpai, and now taunting Akira? The fact was that Narumi knew him all too well -- his old childhood friend knew exactly what to say to hit a nerve. Yes, he had been frustrated with that one question on his last exam; he had seen Narumi napping comfortably as if the entire test was a joke. And that was why it was so unfair, and so infuriating. Narumi, mocking everything and everyone, while hard-working and dedicated Akira studied for hours each day. He narrowed his eyes. "But you weren't sleeping comfortably, were you?" Akira slowly grinned back, evilly. "You must've tried to relax after completing the exam, but something probably prevented you from resting peacefully. Because, even though you spent hours taking exams during exam week, you have no clue know what it was all for, if it wasn't for grades. You will spend six more years at school, being forced to study and take tests, without knowing what you're doing it for. A goal-less life of struggle seems much sadder, in my opinion," he smirked back. At least Akira knew what he was striving for.

He noticed briefly that Narumi was avoiding eye contact with those around him. What was it with him these days? Something in him seemed to have broken -- not that Akira cared, he told himself -- but something was definitely off. Had Narumi been in more fights recently? Was he somewhat wary of the fear and discomfort that his fights inspired amongst his peers? 'The Oni Delinquent' may be a fitting title. "Worry about your own body," Akira spat back after Narumi made a comment about Greek mythology. "It wouldn't do to show up to class in tatters every other day." It was not Mahoutokoro's reputation. They weren't a school of delinquents. He watched Narumi closely, to see how he would react. If Narumi wanted a fight of words, he would bring it. If not, Akira would be perfectly happy heading to bed to prepare for an early morning.

Hiro hadn't meant now.

He'd meant whenever they had free time. But Ayako seemed to have misunderstood.

"Ah, I didn't mean right now..." Hiro murmured but wasn't about to turn down a request from anyone currently present at the time. Well, unless it made him get into trouble with a higher-year. Hiro did want to avoid any kind of detention if possible. The pink haired boy let out a sound of protest as Ayako grabbed his arm and started to drag him away. Akira's response to Ayako's offer made Hiro's eyes widen. The Akira Shimizu was actually interested?

In flying. When he tended to steer clear of brooms as much as possible. Hiro blinked at this, not knowing how to react to this news. "You said it! You said it, Akira! You can't take it back now!" Hiro exclaimed with a huge grin as he was dragged off by Ayako. He'd track him down and find him later on. Because this was something that was out of the ordinary to ever have happened. The pink haired boy would not forget this. Hiro glanced over at the girl.

Now was the time to ask.

"You really want to fly this late at night? You don't want to wait until later?"

Hiro asked, just to make sure. After all, if Ayako wanted to do it now and wanted his help, he was all for that because helping was his specialty. But if she would prefer to do it tomorrow instead during early morning hours, that would be fine too. What was her preference? The small group gathered at the bulletin board was still there a short distance away and Hiro couldn't help but be worried. But at the same time, he couldn't be there all the time for them.

Being there nearly all the time was acceptable. He'd track the members of SNACBASH down tomorrow and find out if anything else had happened during his absence.

For now, he returned his attention to Ayako again, waiting for her response to his question.

Ayako was walking away when Hiro's voice reached her. She shifted restlessly between her feet, eyeing the dorms in the distance longingly. Her broom and comfortable flying clothes were there, but she was here. What a conundrum.

"Of course I want to fly this late at night, Hiro-san. Chi-chan invited us, and it will be good practice for all of us. Come on," she said bossily as she resumed her pace toward the dorms.

She reluctantly walked back to where Hiro was standing and grabbed his arm, pulling him along toward the dorms.

"Quickly. As you said, it's late, so we shouldn't delay any longer, unless you'd truly prefer not to come."

She dragged him toward the dorms, eager to practice. Normally Thursdays were her Archery and Aikido days, but she always welcomed some flying. When she was up in the sky, all of her problems felt so far away, and she honestly needed practice anyway. It was less than half a year until the quidditch team would be playing at Hogwarts, so she needed every iota of practice possible.

In fact...

"Now that you mention it, we could practice tomorrow as well. We have to represent our school to the best of our abilities, and we won't do so with sloppy technique and poor form. Four thirty seems a reasonable hour, if you're available."

She didn't even wait for a reply. If he arrived at four thirty, good. If not, she could practice on her own until he did. Perfect. Pieces were falling into place, and they were shaping up into quite the team.

Hopefully it stuck.

There was purpose to ever action and every inaction. Salinger actually gave some good advice about standing back, saying as little as possible and that in doing so that he would be left alone. And that was how it was for Pride in this case, he could not help but needle and prod as it was in his nature to do so. But in truth, he knew he would bear the greatest fruit by keeping his damned mouth shut and play this like Salinger.

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something, they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life. Everybody'd think I was just a poor deaf-mute bastard and they'd leave me alone . . . I'd cook all my own food, and later on, if I wanted to get married or something, I'd meet this beautiful girl that was also a deaf-mute and we'd get married. She'd come and live in my cabin with me, and if she wanted to say anything to me, she'd have to write it on a piece of paper, like everybody else.

From the position of observer, He did not care where Hadashi stood in the roster, when someone has little to do with their day then top marks, a boot-licker's position as a Professor's errand boy and 'rule keeper' were simply accessories to one another. He understood the notion of conditional affection and hell, loving a product more than blood. In one regard and perhaps that alone they would be the same. It did make for accolades on occasion from people who mattered. If he had people that liked him or parents love that was unconditional, he would probably be 'normal' like the rest of them he figured. In a way he envied the upper classman, not for his need to conform but his success in doing so.

It was simply the fact that he seemed to enjoy announcing it that pissed him off. [OC: I was waiting for Hui since there is a plot hook, but it has been awhile.] "Just jealous that the goblet did not pick you," he needled stating what he expected was pretty obvious. If the actual, newly 'chosen-one' was there, it probably would have riled their ace student but there seemed to be someone in this nerd-school that did not care about grades.

There were others here of course. Akira Shimizu, the terminally polite student whose grandest act of deviance this year was likely looking at grades during late night hours. Concern over the state of another student's (Chikao Narumi) robes and grades. Then there was Ayako Yamamura, bless her dear boring and pure heart, she was being a true rebel by maintaining their sports equipment at these late hours.

They were going to perish at the very thought of dealing with these other foreign schools.

The strongest acts of deviance this school had to offer was the forbidden love between his roommate (Hiro Bakugo) and the stick in the mud (Akira Shimizu) and Chikao Narumi's relative indifference to the rigors of perfectionism. Perhaps Hiro could seduce the opposition and give Mahotokoro an easy victory after he got through to a frosty and reluctant Akira. Whatever romance there was between the two of them, Mathias felt it would be short-lived. It was really hard to define his roommate's interpersonal relationships, he felt that his roommate perhaps preferred the chase and much like an overfed housecat, if a mouse was caught in his metaphorical claws the cat might play with the unfortunate beast until it grew tired or bored.

He would stand there idly and let Hiro or Akira drag one or the other off. He was not even sure which was leading the other in the moment and how much of this was for show and how much of the protests were contrite. "If he is not interested Tone,"] Hiro's preferred moniker, "I am sure one of the other schools' champions would miss you more."

ARYAAN SHAMSI

Whoo! It had been a good night!

Sometimes – not every night, mind you, it would not do to get caught – Aryaan snuck out in the middle of the night. Not for something nefarious, but to spend several hours just flying. It was nothing too extreme, just some rounds and twirls and corkscrews in the pitch by starlight. Flying centered the Indian boy, and helped him hold onto the sense of joy and wonder that fuelled him and helped him survive the minefield that was the teachers and their army of Navy lapdogs of the Mahou school of Japan.

And boy, did he need a break from Mahou right about now!

Drenched in sweat from proper physical exposure, and with a pilfered school broom slung on his shoulders like those large swords the anime protagonists carry – it was the easiest way to carry around the broom, but it also looked hella cool – Aryaan was on his way back from his not-at-all-regular-how-dare-you flying session when he saw something a little unusual.

There were people gathered outside.

Some were the usual suspects – the patrols (Hadashi-senpai), the hard worker (Yamamura-san) – but then there were also some unexpected faces from the Quidditch team. Was that Shimizu-kun? What an interesting group of people.

The Mahou champion sauntered towards the unlikely gathering of students.

Narumi* was already heading away, as was Yamamura-san.

“You guys having party? Li-i-iiiit!” Shamsi burst into the conversation. “If you’d all just told me that you’d all wanted to join me on the 'fun' side, I could have shown up with cake and some ballons. And fireworks!”

A deep breath, followed by a yell that might wake even the dead. “OI NARUMI! Get back here, we should set off some fireworks.”

Aryaan brought his attention back to little gathering, his eyes falling on each of the members in turn. The teacher’s pet, arrogance embodied, the coward, and some people he liked.

“This lot could use some more explosions in their life.”
