2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 5

Still under the effects of the curse and was busy dealing with her sneezes - ah, she should have brought a tissue if she had foreseen this - Lindsey devoted her entire self into dodging the possible attacks, which she anticipated should happen while she was unfortunately caught in a gust of wind. She did see one Flipendo nailed at her, though close, she still managed to step out of its way in time.

Lucia was, in the meantime, attempting to help her with a healing spell. And unexpectedly - she said unexpectedly, because Lucia had been a skilled spell caster all the time - the spell failed. The second time in this duel. What a bad luck for the badgers, she thought. Yet Lindsey was still grateful for Lucia’s effort. “Nah, it’s allll - ACHOO! -right!” she reassured her teammate. There was still time left, and they still stood a chance.

There was a lot of positivity going around, teammates exchanging encouragements and reassurances and gratitude. Bridget liked to see it; banter could be funny, but this was what worked best, in her opinion. This round would end up being a pretty mixed bag, though. Elsa, perhaps courtesy of casting the same spell enough times in a row as to lose intentional focus, delivered Sylvie what would feel like a sting rather than a wash of relief. Lucia and Lindsey traded off on healing duty, Lindsey taking over her own care. Her wand would light up and deliver a weak bit of comfort, but just as soon she was overtaken by her headache reaching a sharp peak, congestion mounted into something terrible that would make it impossible to do anything else until it passed.

Where the real success came was the attacks, the Flipendos exchanged between Lucia and Sylvie. Sylvie might have been thrown by the discomfort caused by the spell that should have meant healing, but not enough to cause her aim to suffer; her Flipendo slammed into Lucia, drawing that bit of blood that was apparently a thing for her. But Lucia would not take the hit quietly, retorting with a powerful spell of her own. Her Knockback Jinx lacked the sharpness of Sylvie's yet possessed a specific force that blew the Gryffindor straight off her feet and onto her back. It was a rough scene, one duellist on the floor and another incapacitated by a horrible cold; these last few moments would be interesting.

Being a duelist was a double edged sword. On one hand, you have the instant gratification of a masterfully (sometimes not so masterfully...) cast spell with near perfect aim. On the other hand... You're being knocked down, bruised, pushed over, burned.... Beaten to a pulp with a well done flipendo. Sylvie's agony was immense(ly dramatized) as she laid on the ground. All she could do was stand up and hope her partner wouldn't be hit too heavily.

Trying her best and successfully performing the healing spell despite her headache and sneezes, Lindsey tried to remain calm. The headache was becoming unendurable, dizziness capturing her, hand shaking. She wasn’t feeling alright - no, it wasn’t a lie - and she was forced to lower her wand. Sylvie was knocked down by Lucia’s strong Knockback Jinx, that was good, but Lindsey really couldn’t muster up her stamina and say something encouraging to her teammate. “I…” she muttered, feeling the congestion mounting up. “Sorry but…” and then she fell into that dizziness again. Covering her forehead with both her hands and trying to ease the pain in vain, Lindsey squinted her eyes and merely hoped that this could pass soon.

The clock was ticking down, steadily and without halt. The audience was no doubt hoping for an all-out showdown, all wands blazing, but that was not the way this would go. Instead, Sylvie would struggle to her feet. That was already a feat with all the bruising she had to be dealing with, but it was downright impressive when Lucia's spell came in, the wind nearly overwhelming. Lucia might have been having issues with her wand earlier, but it looked like she'd pulled herself together and more; this was the second spell cast in a row she'd cast with a certain fire. Sylvie was taking a beating, only slightly mitigated by Elsa's repeated healing. At least that healing worked this time.

Meanwhile, Lindsey was no doubt having a very unfortunate few moments. The curse had this way of crescendoing into something unbearable. Still, she had two reassurances. The first was that, after that suffering, the curse would cut out completely, dissipating much quicker than it had come on. Lindsey would again be able to breathe, to think, to fight back. The second was the complete lack of spells coming toward her in her vulnerable state, Lucia doing a very effective job of pushing Gryffindor back.

"Time is almost up!" Bridget called. She was watching very closely now, because it looked entirely possible all four duellists would make it to the end and that would make her job of determining the winner a little tricky. There was no one down anymore, though, so the audience might get that blazing final showdown yet.
