Not everything went Pride's way this past Blossom Ball. He had become accustomed to manipulating the threads of fate just enough to keep himself on top. The months that lay ahead of him was a mazework of crimson string and still frame images of what was, what is and what could be. Of the lives he wanted and the lives he would suffer if he did not take care. Of all those fates, and of all those scenarios, Pride chose this miserable existence over all of the others. This lonesome, humble place among his lessers, nations away from the places he wanted to be.

He had forfeited his seat of glory, breeching his contract with fate, his agreement with Uncle Thaddeus for an ends he had not calculated. For a fate left unseen. A series of decisions made with his heart rather than his mind. "They could not have her," a childish and selfish notion. Headmaster Plott was yet another puppet of the political machine, all he had to do was read the right name and yet he failed this elementary task. A bungle of monumental proportions and of disastrous consequences, he named the nearest youth (iNPC of @Hui Ming) he saw since he had no preference nor did he fear the chagrin of his peers. He did however fear the wrath of his benefactor as he well should. He would suffer greatly for his avidity and decrepitude.

Not today...

Today he needed to pluck at those crimson threads.

Barefooted, a foreign Irish teen might scream, and not in his school robes as it was after hours. The sun was low, it was late in the evening and he was ambling the grounds. Taking in the gardens, the temperate climate and the sweet air. Alone, always alone. He did not speak much, still essentially a mute. He wore loose-fitting linen pants and a plain white tank. his tousled hair finger combed, he looked like he had fallen out of bed rather than a near-representative for Mahoutokoro.

Exam results, his only saving grace perhaps from his family's ire. His scores were near-perfect. He just needed to see his name, his ranking. His proof that he was better than the rest.

It was late.

Most students would be in bed by now but Hiro had gone out for a time.

But he did have a reason. It wasn't just to get some fresh air, he wanted to check his grades. Ever since the ball, he'd decided to buckle down and try even harder to make his robes change colors and go up a level. But it was easier said than done. That was why, although Hiro would never admit this to others, he'd become obsessed lately about checking his grades. Still, he didn't want anyone to see him doing so. Therefore, he checked at night time.

So far, no one had caught him.

He hoped no one ever would and tonight was once again the time.

Hiro was dressed in pastel pink clothes, that matched his pink hair. Yes, he'd kept the hair color ever since returning from the Ball. Mostly because Winnie had told him she liked the color on him. But also because he'd had trouble deciding what color to dye it next. Maybe he should ask someone. Akira was the first one who came to mind but he might just say 'whatever' which wasn't very helpful. Perhaps he would fare better asking Chikao sometime.

The pink haired boy made his way towards the grounds where the bulletin board was tacked up. A list of grades should be shown. It was time to check his grades again.

But as he neared the aforementioned location, Hiro blinked upon seeing his roommate there too. What was Mathias doing out on the grounds at such a time? He didn't usually come out around now. At least not over the past few weeks that is. Hiro placed a fake smile on his face, as his earlier expression had been expressionless, and approached his roommate. Unlike most people, Hiro's fake smiles were actually quite realistic. Most couldn't tell the difference.

Not when it came to a fake and genuine smile of Hiro's.

"Mathias! What are you doing out here at this time?" Hiro chirped.

He came up to him and slung an arm over Mathias's shoulder, waiting to see what his reaction would be. After all, Hiro always was able to find him, even if he tried to avoid him.

Hiro was no master of stealth, like a gaudy lawn flamingo cavorting across the campus. It would have been a testament to some covert ninja training by the teen if he was able to secretly convene with the grade board on a regular basis. Still, he was like a damn cat for Mathias Pride. The tall, lean teen would seen a flash of pink out of the corner of his eye and know that was the harbinger of his doom -- Hiro Bakugo was the pale pink horse of death. Yet he had grown accustomed to living with a flamboyant ghoul.

"Mathias! What are you doing out here at this time?"

"Checking to see which home I should return to for summer break," he admitted. His disappointment-parents and their little bookshop of "wonders." A backroom of prophecy rather than racy novels and naughty pictures. Alternatively, his Uncle in London, his stepping stone to power that would potentially catapult him to the places his cousin Vladimir had forgone. Nothing short of excellence and perfection, he had diverted from his uncle's plan and he would suffer the consequences for this but he would claw his way back into Athanatos' good graces.

"Uncle is going to be running for Minister of Magic this coming fall," he commented. There was a stress to this that was rarely considered. How families are often scrutinized and defamed, judged by arbitrary standards and the narrative that they needed to make before someone made one for them. A pureblood family that championed the rights of mud-bloods and half-bloods, maybe half-breeds. That was his family's platform, one of service and advocacy despite the fact that their lineage screamed the opposite as would any pureblood family that made the same Gary Stu confession. My family loves muggles and muggle things and thinks everyone should be treated the same, it is merely happenstance that my entire family is made of purebloods... Sure Jan.

He had to look to about his third cousin to find mixed breeds, the black sheep of the family tree. Pathetic excuses for wizards and a blight on the family name, even if their proclivities had their advantages at this very moment. "Not terrible," he commented as he pointed out Hiro's grade for the session.

RPing as Hadashi. Will put the banner up later when I can.
Nope, nothing yet.

Hadashi continued his patrol. Rarely did he actually find anyone stupid enough to be out after hours, and to be honest, Hadashi almost viewed this as a waste of time.
But, he had to make one more round about the school to ensure there were no rule breakers out when they should be in bed. Or at the very least in their dorms.

As he walked, Hadashi's mind strayed back to the Blossom Ball. Not only had he not won the firewalking competition- though it should be noted that the "prize" was candy and a cardboard hat. So Hadashi was honestly not that bothered.- But he also, by some inexplicable reason was not picked as the champion representative of Mahoutokoro for the Hexwizard Tournament.
Instead, of all people, it chose Aryaan Shamsi?! A slacker and trouble maker like HIM, when Hadashi was consistently best in his class, and one of, if not the best duelist in the school?
Hadashi suspected meddling, but had no way to prove it. He didn't carry a grudge per se, but he was considerably less than thrilled that Mahoutokoro was to be represented by the worst student Hadashi had ever seen.

He continued walking along, barefooted, in loose pajama pants and a simple black T-shirt with the cast of One Piece on the front and the Straw Hat's jolly Roger on the back, with his class representative badge on the front. He was taking advantage of a loophole. He had to patrol, but nowhere did it say he had to wear his robes after hours. And the less he wore those walking around the entirely of Mahoutokoro, the less chance they had to get dirty or damaged.
Hadashi always had a fondness for non-magic entertainment. Particularly anime in which protagonists would stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Sure, Naruto and Boku no Hero Academia fit the bill easily, and we're among Hadashi's favorites, but One Piece epitomized that goal driven attitude. Something Hadashi greatly admired and saw himself in.

It was here that Hadashi decided on a change. He would go to the area with the grade sheets earlier than usual tonight. Sure it was a bit of a detour, and would end up taking him longer than usual to finish his rounds, but he HAD to see his grades. He had been consistently top of his class, maybe even the school. Not to sound prideful, but Hadashi expected his robes to change any day now. He HAD to be sure that he was still on track now, or it would bother him until he got there.

He abruptly turned and went almost in the opposite direction, and took the shortest route to the sheet wall.
But upon his arrival, he noticed that he was not alone in his idea.

Standing there were none other than Hiro Bakugo, and the Hogwartsian Matthias Pride. Blatantly breaking curfew rules because they just couldn't wait until the morning.

Hadashi had a mixed opinion of Bakugo. He didn't dislike him, but he was quite an aggravation at times.
Pride, on the other hand... He had an immense amount of arrogance about him. Hadashi could just sense it wafting off of him and polluting the air of any room he was in. Perhaps it was unfair to judge someone before he knew them on a more personal level, but some people you just knew were intolerable unless you were DEEPLY in their personal life. And Hadashi had no desire to be that close to Pride.

So much for a waste of time.

Hadashi stepped silently up to the pair, until he was sure any closer and they would notice. Then, he would speak, and continue walking toward them.

"Well well. What do we have here? Evening Bakugo-kun. Pride-kun. Up late, aren't you?"

Hadashi made sure Pride heard the honorific he used. The one used to denote one of lower status to you. This one, Hadashi felt, needed desperately to learn that he was no better than anyone his year, let alone any higher years.

Terrible Presence

Chikao walked away from his typical practice sight drenched in sweat. For starters, he had been practicing physical techniques in judo and quidditch a lot more than usual, and second, he had accidentally fallen asleep and awoken from a nasty nightmare with the sun already having dispersed. He hadn't quite expected himself to have slept for so long but decided to get up and head towards the dorms nonetheless. Something about the cool night breeze was bothering him, and it was resulting in his dreams being troubled. With each step, a heavyweight could be felt dragging him down. He felt tired and troubled by all sorts of things that he couldn't pinpoint exactly. He tried to concentrate, but overall just wanted to go to bed and rest his head.

Unfortunately blocking his way were three students in the distance, and a bit of chatter erupting from them all. Chikao wondered if he could just walk by the rest of them unnoticed, but he knew he wasn't one much for stealth. Why hide the sound of your footsteps when you could just run fast enough to where your opponent couldn't react in a timely manner? Honestly, that was one of the ways how Chikao avoided the majority of students patrolling through campus; they just couldn't keep up with him some days.

Chikao looked over but decided not to run by them with what little energy he had left. He was curious as to what the other three students were doing and walked towards the rest of them allowing his feet to be heard as each carried the weight of how tired the young boy was. He walked past Hitoshi-senpai without even acknowledging him. Yet, Chikao didn't quite say anything else either to Bakugo-san or Pride-senpai. He did at least acknowledge the two of them with a bright smile despite the amount of sweat that could be seen coming down Chikao's face.

Chikao turned his head to face whatever the rest of them were looking at, and he gave a look of displeasure and disgust. The grade sheet on the final exams, and for Chikao to give such a look was rather an oddity. Not once did Chikao care much for his grades ever since he acted in a very nonchalant way towards life. Yet, something was very off about the grades.

Normally, Chikao would land a perfect barely passing grade on all of his tests, quizzes, and homework. The fact all of his scores were exactly the same (or close to being the same) caused massive suspicion among students and faculty that knew about it. Chikao was noted as being very clever and smart when he used to have blue robes, thus many individuals believed he was still capable of being just as clever. The results of his scores on tests and quizzes made it seem like he was mocking others. Despite his talents, Chikao wasted them and some felt mocked by him due to the fact he was capable of always getting a perfect grade that barely passed. It was like he gave teachers and students hope that he would be dropping out of classes or he would fail so badly that he'd eventually would have to leave Mahoutokoro, but his scores were barely enough to be considered failing. Chikao in fact recalled one time when a teacher gave him a lecture about skipping questions and answering with "This question is too easy. I'm not even gonna bother answering it," on multiple questions. His response to the lecture? He recited each and every question and gave a correct answer to each of them. It seemed disrespectful and almost like a bigger mockery to the teacher. For not only did he skip questions because he claimed they were too easy, he even proved he was capable of getting a perfect score on the test if he had felt like it. That was who Chikao is when it came to grades, and he didn't care as long as he got to feel free. Truely an enigma to some, Chikao was physically strong and weak in magic like a muggle despite being a pureblood, and he was intelligent and determined but always acted lazy.

However, that freedom of his was threatened before by a certain someone. Chikao hadn't forgotten the defenseless feeling he had when he encountered a certain someone, and he could feel his old rage boiling in himself from the thought. Chikao looked up again, and his final exam scores were almost perfect. He scoffed and looked rather displeased, and he even looked down at his clothing finally taking notice of what was bothering him. His robes, it may have been slightly hard, but they certainly seemed darker than before, "Pisfra"Purple... he whispered. The colors of his robe weren't purple, but they were getting close to a dark lavender to where one could call them a certain shade of purple.

Chikao sighed, he felt ashamed that he allowed another student to influence and dictate him towards authority. Yet, Chikao wondered if it was really that bad. Perhaps he should rise the ranks again, the grade he had on the final exam clearly showed he was still just as academically powerful as any other blue robe. He gave a ragged sigh and looked away from the papers posted up, and decided to just walk away, "Have a good night Bakugo-san! You to Pride-senpai! You too No-Gold-kun!" Daring as always, Chikao began to walk but was expecting something to occur in which he was going to be dragged back in.

Mathias's response made him nod.

"What one do you want to?" He asked, with an arched brow, letting his eyes linger.

As his roommate spoke of his uncle running for Minister of Magic this fall, Hiro nodded again. "Do you want him to win?" Hiro asked, curious. He looked at the board as Mathias pointed out his name. It was higher than before but not too high, which was nice. Obviously, his grades wouldn't change overnight by a ton. But it was a sign that what he was doing was working as he was going upward finally. Right now, Hiro was in the top 10 which was perfect.

Before he'd been in the top 15, so he'd moved up 5 points. He was satisfied with this for now and would work hard to make his count rise higher each time. Eventually, he'd get navy blue and then he'd strive for gold, just to see how it felt upon achieving such a goal. Even if no one would be proud of him if he ever got that color, Hiro wanted to prove to himself that he could reach that pinnacle. To show he wasn't a nobody with no talent/skill, other than persistence.

It was around this time that someone came up behind them.

Hiro's shoulders made an involuntary movement upward and his body 'jumped' a little.

What was he doing here now?! He turned around to face the boy and tried to think of a good excuse that would work for his being out so late. "Hadashi!" Hiro exclaimed and grinned at him. "Um, I couldn't wait to see what my grades were. That's the only reason I was out right now. You know how it is, right? You're here because you wanted to see too, right?" Hiro asked, hoping Hadashi would be a bit lenient at this particular time.

"Look! I went up 5 ranks!" Hiro said with a smile and glanced over at Mathias. Wasn't his roommate going to say something in response? Or would he get into trouble? It was around this time that Chikao approached them and Hiro noted the sweat on his friend's body. He must have just gotten done practicing techniques. Most of the time Chikao enlisted his help in this but tonight he hadn't asked, so this time he'd probably been doing it alone on his own.

Or he'd gotten someone else to help him.

Hiro nodded when Chikao nodded to him and let his eyes flicker over his friend.

The look of disgust on his face upon seeing the bulletin board made Hiro tilt his head to the side. Well, that wasn't normal. Chikao didn't seem to care about grades. Not anymore that is. So what had gotten into him? Was it because his marks had been just barely passing again? Hiro had heard of the rumors that surrounded Chikao but he didn't believe his friend cheated. And he also didn't see it as mocking others. Chikao was intelligent, just like he was.

But he chose to not make use of his talents. However, he also probably didn't want to fail, and thus this was the result of his actions. Hiro didn't see anything wrong with this. However, the events of the fall trip to Hogwarts had resulted in certain... 'changes'... that had forced Chikao to act differently for a time. Although Hiro hadn't been present, he had heard all about it from Akira and Aryaan later on. As well as Chikao's version of events too. It had been insane.

To say the least.

Part of him wondered what would have happened if he'd gone with them.

But Ayako had forced him to stay home at the time. To study with her and become better at his studies so that he could go up a rank. She didn't realize Hiro specifically didn't try too hard because he didn't want to give up all his freedom. Perhaps this was why Chikao was acting the way he was now. He didn't want to change but had been forced to do so. A sigh escaped his lips briefly. Hiro watched as Chikao gave his goodbyes to everyone present there.

Ah, again. Bakugo-san. It was the term he hated to hear but didn't have the guts to ask them not to address him as such. Which was ironic since Hiro had no trouble saying/doing anything to others when approaching and interacting with them. But this... well, it was hard for him to speak up about this. Because they would inevitably ask for a reason, which Hiro would not be able to give them. One of these days he'd have to figure out how to deal with it.

"Do you want him to win?"

"He will win," Mathias confirmed with plain confidence. He was as certain of this as much as he was certain that the sun would rise another day, that spring air smells so sweet and that boy will be boys. His family has been preparing for the rigors of politics for generations, enough status, enough money and 'clean' enough blood. They were necessary, they were far-reaching, they were everything that the people would come to envy and eventually attempt to emulate. Of course he neglected to confirm his own wants, they were irrelevant, he was but a pawn in a much bigger game.

"Look! I went up 5 ranks!"

"Looking good," Mathias confirmed as an upper classman entered the scene. He did not know the teen, just the the boy looked like a stereotype. Average height, average looks, less the garish attire he wore, something to do with straw hats, pirates and punk-rocker aesthetic. A band, Once Piece if he were to guess was some muggle form of music entertainment.

"Well well. What do we have here? Evening Bakugo-kun. Pride-kun. Up late, aren't you?"

A bit of effort on that 'kun'. Heh, alright. "Evening kisama," he replied with a slight smirk. It was just how his face was. Mathias was proficient in the spoken word despite the fact that he had preferred silence these past few months whilst he learned, adapted and gained his bearings. "Seeking your name among the many," which one was yours?

His roommate tried to make small talk, the sort of chatter that fills the air but does not grant the conversation substance. Another passerby, the boy was a stand out much like himself because his blood lineage did not come from solely the Asian continent. He recognized him vaguely for the fact that his head (and likely shoulders) were over the shuffling masses of their peers. His casual regard of the upper classman was humorous but there was always something unsettling about someone knowing his name when he did not know theirs. "You sure you don't want to check your grades?" He called out after Chikao. "Make nice with fragile egos of Mahoutokoro?"

Ayako was utterly exhausted. Her arms still burned from the exertion of pulling the bowstring for hours and her legs felt shaky and weak. Despite such discomfort, she was pleased with her body's response. The exhaustion meant she would have little trouble sleeping tonight, so waking up early would be easy.

Despite her self-discipline and obsessive nature regarding her studies and extracurriculars, Ayako was not necessarily a stickler for the rules. If she could spend time she'd otherwise be wasting in her dorm sleeping doing something actually useful instead, she wouldn't hesitate to do so. It wasn't uncommon to find her sneaking to the archery dojo late at night, or practicing Aikido outside in the moonlight. If anyone had ever caught her in her blatant rule-breaking, however, they certainly hadn't confronted her.

Tonight, she was making her way back to the dorms, with a duffel back containing her archery uniform hoisted over her shoulder, when she saw a small commotion near the bulletin board upon which grades were normally announced. It was strange to see so many students so interested in their grades that they would be up so late to check them. Ayako almost decided not to do so herself, but she figured, if nothing else, it would save her the time in the morning.

She didn't know all of the students crowding the area, since she tended to keep to herself, but she did recognized a couple of faces.

"Hiro-san, Narumi-san," she greeted her fellow quidditch team members with a light bow, turning her full attention to the grade listings. Unsurprisingly, her name was near the top of the list among the first-year students. She was satisfied, but only just. Perfection was her goal, and she would have it if it killed her. For now, she would settle for being 'among the best.' She had little choice in the matter anyway. What could she do other than continuing her fervent studies?

She turned and started to make her way to the dorms, ready for a few hours of sleep to start over the next day.

The cool wind whistled through Chiaki's short hair as she snuck through, broom tightly clutched in hand. She was hopeful to not get caught being out of bed after hours, but if she was to maintain her fastest lap around the school on a broom, she was going to have to keep up training.

And, even though she did have some friends on the broom racing team, her closer friends were alliegenced to quidditch, which left her a little alone when it came to practices. She'd always be there for her friends' practices, but they would always prioritise studying or other activities over her practices. Which made sense. After all, grades were Ayako-san's whole life, and Hiro-san much preferred to socialise and talk than sit around whilst Chiaki flew laps around the school and/or the courses she'd set up for the team.

So she reverted back to her old ways- sneaking out at night. It was more peaceful that way, and she could pretend (read- lie to herself) that her friends were simply asleep and that's why they couldn't make it.

However, the commotion around the board drew her in this one particular night. As she approached, she recognised several people. Maybe she hadn't spoken to them, but she knew several from the quidditch meets.

"Hitoshi-san, Pride-san, Hiro-san, good evening. I hope you are doing well."

Then, leaving the site, was Ayako-san, alongside Narumi-san. Chiaki backed away from the group around the board (after catching a quick look, of course, at her almost never-changing position between average and excellent), before jogging over to them.

Seeing her friends shattered the fantasy she had built up in her head. But she knew it had to be shattered sooner or later.

"Ayako-san! Narumi-san! Hi! How are you? Would you like to come flying with me?"

Mathias's response was suspicious.

He could already tell there was more behind this than he'd originally thought there was.

After all, he hadn't asked whether Mathias had thought he would win. He'd asked if he wanted him to win. And Mathias hadn't responded to the question and had tried to pass it off as whether or not he would win instead for some reason. Still, Hiro knew his roommate was a very complicated person. One who couldn't admit things to themselves or others. Look at what had happened with Winnie. All Hiro could do was be present, watch and contemplate.

Hiro regarded Mathias as he and Hadashi butted heads again. This time with Mathias using certain 'words' to refer to the latter. What little he had in physical strength was made up for with his scathing words. But it seemed like a defense mechanism to him, to cover up what he really felt inside. The only reason Hiro thought this way was because he did something very similar too. Not that Mathias was aware of this. Or for that matter, anyone else. No one knew.

That was the whole point.

Mathias's words as he called out to Chikao made Hiro raise a brow again.

It was almost as if his roommate was intentionally trying to start some fights. But what could the reason be behind this? A sigh escaped his lips and he wondered just how long he should remain. The last thing he wanted was to get embroiled within a fight between students of the school. Hiro was trying to get his navy blue robes and fighting would not be helpful in achieving this. But before he could make a decision, Ayako and Chiaki happened to drop by.

Hiro smiled at the two girls. "Ayako! What are you doing up so late at night?" He asked, curious. She didn't usually tend to cut things so close to curfew. Well, technically it was a little past curfew but who cared about technicalities? As Chiaki approached, Hiro glanced over at her and nodded when she greeted everyone. "You just finish flying practice?" He asked. "Do you need any partners?" Hiro was always up for two things.

Flying and socializing.

He glanced back over at the board for a moment and then looked over in Chikao's direction.

Where should he go? Should he leave Mathias's side? But if he did that and his roommate was looking for a fight... sometimes Hiro was the only thing to prevent a catastrophe from happening. Was it really a good idea to leave Mathias on his own when he was like this? A sigh escaped his lips as he hesitated, trying to decide what to do. Hiro really was the mood-maker and rock of the group. Hiro was the one who brought everyone together all the time.

And he was also the one who tried to keep the mood of the gang positive.
