Astrono-You and Astrono-Me PV Mireia Sangre-Tenebri Closed

Astronomy was an interesting class - when they were able to do hands on work. But the book work was not her favorite. Spells were rare in this class and instead they learned about the sky and what was in it. And don't get her wrong, Mireia though the sky would beautiful and mysterious and she loved the allure of the stars. But she also loves to learn and cast spells, and so, compared to her other classes, this one fell a little short.

But today they seemed to be doing hands on work, so Mireia perked up a little, even though it was late and night and she was always tired for her other classes the next morning after Astronomy. However this was always partner work. Not group work, but pairs. Mireia dreaded pairs. At least in groups she could be the awkward third to a couple of friends, but pairs meant that she would have to find another loner like herself, if no one else has claimed them yet.

Just as she was beginning to pout internally, a girl strolled up and offered to be a partner to Mireia. Well that was easier that she had hoped, and Mireia grinned, but did try not to seem too eager. The girl was a Slytherin, and she certainly recognized her as a classmate. The class size wasn't that big. She didn't remember her name straight off, but did realize it sounded familiar when the girl introduced herself. June, yes, that was her name, she remembered now.

"Yeah! Partners would be great!" Mireia replied happily. As she gathered her things, ready to work in a group, she realized she may not have been paying as much attention to the activity of the day when it was explained than she should have been.

"Uh, remind me what we are actually doing?" She sheepishly asked her now partner. June mentioned that she felt ready for the upcoming exams, something Mireia felt the opposite for. Especially for Astronomy.

Thank goodness, the girl agreed to partner up. A few times in the year June had approached someone only to find that they had chosen a partner already through just eye contact. June thought it incredibly rude to pick a partner without making any sort of motion to let others know that you've done so. She couldn't possibly pay attention to every peer's line of sight when a teacher announced group or pair word. Rude, is what it was. Rude and disrespectful.

June took her books, parchment and quills in her arms, eyeing the last available telescope and hoping no one would take it before them. She smiled, noticing the girl's slight shyness in an attempt to put her at ease. "We're meant to help each other revise for end-of-terms, Professor Horne wants to us to focus on identifying planets either with the naked eye or a telescope. Personally, I have the most difficulty with telling the dwarf planets apart with a telescope, I keep confusing Eris and Ceres..." June nodded in the direction of the empty telescope. "Shall we settle down there?"

June looked the Ravenclaw over as she gathered her things, and noticed something quite odd about her that she hadn't seen before. The tips of the girl's fingers were black, the inky colour crawling well up her finger before fading out. June blinked (whether in curiosity or to make sure she wasn't seeing things, she wasn't quite sure).

"That's quite interesting... Your fingers, I mean. Is that... Is it natural? Sorry if I'm intruding, I've just never seen anything like it.."

Ah right, the planets. She thought, in the beginning of the year it might have been simple to memorize the planets names and order - but then the moons, and dwarf planets and everything else? In her studies she found herself tracing over the orbits with her quill, trying to remember what moon went with what planet. And why was our moon called moon - well it wasn't, though, was it. Technically it was Luna - but no one called it that.

She had memorized just fine the major planets of the solar system. But she was very worried she would mess up on the other complimentary bits and pieces of the system.

Maybe this girl was better than her. She scolded herself internally. Mireia really needed to be getting herself some study partners. She can't do everything alone.

"How are we meant to identify them with the naked eye?" Mireia wondered aloud, a bit annoyed in her tone. Not to the girl of course. "They are just tint dots in the sky!" She wailed.

Along with her partner, Mireia gathered her things and approached the empty telescope. She was annoyed, yes, but she really needed to get into the right head space in order to pass her exams. It would be embarrassing to do badly in Astronomy class.

"I'm ok with the dwarf planets, I'm not as good with the moons though. I always forget which planet each belongs to." She mentioned sadly.

"Oh, haha," Mireia giggled at the girls question about her fingers. "I just like the look! I stain them every couple weeks or so with strong black dye. To be honest I saw it in a muggle film and a few other muggle prices with evil witches and I just thought it was neat and a little ironic." She explained. She did get questions about her fingers sometimes. Sometimes people thought she was cursed. But it was just some simple dye.

"Where would you like to start?" She asked, "Maybe I can find the planet in the telescope and you can find it in the sky? And then switch?" She thought that was a solid plan, but was selfishly asking to use the telescope first since she was not very good without it.

The girl's display of frustration made June giggle. Nothing mean-spirited, she simply found it amusing. Or perhaps that was mean-spirited... June thought about it as the pair walked over; was she mean? She didn't think so, but also perhaps that was a value one couldn't assign to oneself... June would have to ask someone at some point. But not now.

She set her things down near the telescope. "Really, every couple of weeks? That's quite the dedication for something so small... Evil witches?" June shot a quizzical look at the girl. "Have muggles made up stories about us? Fascinating... I suppose that makes sense, one of my friends has explained this concept of 'film' to me, and there are ones about vampires and werewolves, too. Quite interesting, how they tell stories about these things they don't even know to be real." June let out a "hmm" as she re-adjusted her robes. "What kind of 'evil' do these fictional witches do?"

June moved away from the telescope, allowing the girl to use it first. "Sure, we can start with that. Always good to revise things to make sure you don't forget them. Shall we start by looking for Mars? And let me know when you'd like to switch..." June realized the girl had never given her name. June swore to herself in her head for not being more observant during the year. She laid out on the floor, propping her head up with her hands as she began to search for Mars in the clear sky.
