Pax watched on as the game occured above them with baited breath. There were so many narrow misses! At this point, they had no clue who might win the game.
Their eyes lingered on several people before settling on someone. They watched Dan Palmer, the Slytherin Captain. They had a match against Slytherin and it was fast approaching, so scoping out the opposing team was probably the wisest thing to do. They watched as he searched for his wand and somehow managed to evade another student's spells. Dang, they thought. They're good. They'll be hard to beat in the upcoming match.
Next, they switched their attention to Ami Procoppio, the person who had gone for them firstly, as she smoothly managed to take out another student (not from Hogwarts, they guessed). It also seemed to be the person on the highest number of points, so now everybody had an advantage. They must've been pretty skilled to be able to pull that off successfully, so when they faced her in the future, they'd have to be careful.
Finally, they focused on Ari Gwild, the person who had managed to catch them out, and he nimbly managed to evade the spell. Though, from what they were aware of, they were a broom racer, so they were bound to be skilled at flying.
They still would bet on Ari to win, however. Something inside just felt like he'd be able to win.Stats:

Okay, what next? Phyllis again reached to tuck some stray hairs behind her ear, eyes scanning the field. The number of people in the air had already thinned considerably. Courtesy of not knowing many people here, it wasn't like she'd gone into this out for anyone's flag in particular, so her target choices were pretty arbitrary. Well, how about the guy that had targeted her? The first one was already out, and this one was probably at least slightly distracted by retrieving his wand, so a good target. He was pretty far away, though, so she had no chance of covering that distance and getting up close like she had with the silver-haired girl. She would just have to try the normal spell-casting way, wands waving from far off.
It... didn't go very well. Her inexperience was showing, spell flying off wildly. Tracking someone's movements and placing a spell just right was just not in Phyllis' skillset. Maybe she'd ask Karilyna for some pointers when she got back to America, since she was pretty good with this whole casting thing. Or maybe she could even ask Maxi, who was once again doing that cool spell-splitting thing. Not with nearly as much success, only one branch hitting, but still.
Weirdly, after the rush of attacks on her flag a minute ago, nothing--spell or player--came on her tail, no matter how much she looked and spun to check. So, she let herself watch Maxi do his thing (it really wasn't so much of a calculated allotment of her time as something too mesmerizing not to watch). That also meant she saw a redhead burn his flag to a crisp; being the coolest one of the field was going to make you a target.
Aw. Phyllis found herself rather disappointed, and had half a mind to go talk to him (whether to express that disappointment or heckle his downfall would have been a coin toss), but figured she shouldn't really do that in the middle of the game. She was still in, so their competition was technically still on, and he did have a 2 point lead. Still, it would have been more fun to continue their banter, be actively competing and all that. She supposed that just meant she was going to have to win for both of them. If she could figure out this wand thing, that is. "Alright, wand," she muttered. Talking to your wand totally wasn't just talking to yourself, right? "I'm going to need your A-game, got it?"

Now things were getting interesting.
Ari went on the defensive this time, scouting for any potential attackers or spells aimed in his direction. His eyes darted all throughout the air, and he moved any time someone, or something, got too close for comfort.
And it paid off. Someone shot a spell in his general direction, although it looked like it was supposed to go somewhere else. Either way, it was coming for him now, and fast. He gripped his broom and dove out of the way just in time. He didn't see the spell pass through where he had just been, but he felt it. It made the hair stand up on the back of his neck.
Slowly, he turned his broom around, heart racing. He looked around quickly, surveying who was left in the game. Nobody else he recognized, but in total, there were 6 of them still in the air now. The players had been reduced to less than half. He'd made it this far.
If he could make it this far, he could make it to the end. That, he was now sure of.
So, on that confident thought, Ari rolled his head, popping his neck, then ascended further into the sky.

So MANY people were trying to get rid of him! And here Dan was just looking for his wand. Not one, but two spells failed to hit him!
It was worded that way, as one aimed at him simply veered off into nowhere. The other, he dodged deftly.
Dan was the star Seeker of Slytherin, and team captain. Quidditch Extraordinaire. It was going to take a bit more effort than that to be rid of him.
Dan quickly spotted and recovered his wand. He had yet to get any points, and this was becoming a problem as the game was rapidly winding down.
When he turned to see who attacked him, it was that American girl he had targeted earlier. It's not that he didn't expect retaliation, but to be fair... His blue bell flames spell was SUPPOSED to hit her. So she wasn't supposed to be ABLE to retaliate.
He then looked around to the remaining targets and saw Ari. Ari Gwild, he believed it was. And Ami Procoppio, whose last name sounded like a Pokemon to Dan.
And according to the scores, EVERYONE left had a point except him. This... did not exactly do wonders for his mood.
So, he gripped his wand tightly. This, was going to need some effort.

Finally! Ami lunged for the double-spell-slinging hotshot with a need for speed and blood, and once again, the flames of her torch connected with a flag. Man, she was getting good at this! Was this something that was also a professional sport? Because while at first, she had thought that this was just a silly little sidequest type of game, now that she was getting into it and racking up points, it was becoming more and more fun for her. Sure, her date had gotten out in the very first round, but she was having fun and that was what mattered.
Glancing around at the students who were still in, Ami tried to decide who her next target would be. The new Gryffindor quidditch co-captain had gotten out, but the Slytherin Seeker was still in. That Ravenclaw Broom Racing co-captain was still flying around as well, although Ami hadn't really ever spoken to him. The other students, all seemingly younger than her, were all unfamiliar and she could only assume that some of them were from other schools. All of them were possible future victims, and no one would be safe from the flames of her torch.
Ami cracked her knuckles as menacingly as she could, before readjusting her grip on her torch and taking off toward her next victim.

There are only four remaining participants! Who will win? Right now, 3 points is the score to beat. To make things easier for targeting purposes, I’m going to put slashes through the participants list in addition to the eliminated list. This does not mean you cannot participate in the thread still as a spectator but it just makes it easier for those who remain to see who they have left to target (if they choose to target a specific person).
Just a few notes! All rolls were done shortly after I received the person’s action. If a person chose random for their target, I used tatsu to roll a d14 d6 (because there were only 6 participants remaining) to choose the target(s). I’ve left everyone in the order my first post contained that listed the participants, and just numbered everyone accordingly. The casting of the Bluebell Flames for second years+ requires a WDC of 13+. I have not necessarily kept the actions in the order in which I received them.
Emma was enjoying her time as a referee. She wondered if she would have enjoyed the sports she was forced to participate in at school if she could have given penalties or points. Well, and avoided the general clumsiness that tended to cause any action that required catching a ball or hitting one to fail miserably. She also found that the broom wasn’t entirely uncomfortable once she got used to it. Maybe all this time she should have been practicing her skills and she would have been much better off.
The participants were lessening in number as more people were on the ground than currently in the air. It was making Emma’s job even easier, although she was soon going to run out of room on her sheet detailing the people who had been eliminated. That was mainly because she had no clue who anyone was except for a Trix and Mandy, and her descriptions may have been a bit long and unnecessary. But she also wanted to make sure that she didn’t confused them.
But that was enough of her wool gathering, as her grandfather liked to say. Now it was time to pay attention, and just in time too as Emma caught sight of someone’s wand moving. Looking, she squinted and could see that the student who had lost their wand had successfully located it Dan Palmer. Which was good, that made things much easier for him to continue. She watched as the flames burst from his wand and followed them to who she assumed was his intended targetPhylicia Stanwood.
Emma was surprised to see the spell had missed. She had truly thought it was going to burn their flag. She shrugged though, as sometimes that happened. Coaxing her broom forward, Emma’s head was on a swivel, keeping an eye out for obstacles and more likely action. Spotting someone, she moved toward them as theyAri Gwild moved their torch. Staying just behind them, she watched to see what would happen.Dan v. Phylicia

The spell succeeds
Dan’s Acc ((1d20:1) + 10 = 11) v. Phylicia’s Eva ((1d20:7) + 9 = 16))
Phylicia evades Dan’s spell.
Again, the flag of the target remained intact. Emma was starting to worry that things were beginning to slow down and was wondering if it would take much longer for the flags to be burned and someone to declare a winner. But that was to be expected, with limited targets it would change into a chase type of game and maybe even more aggression in an attempt to catch the few who remained.Ari v. Tarja

Ari’s Acc ((1d20:7) + 9 = 16) v. Tarja’s Eva ((1d20:12) + 7 = 19))

Emma had been drifting along, not paying much attention, only realizing she was close to someonePhylicia Stanwood attacking another personAmi Procoppio when she caught sight of the bluebell flames spurting from a wand. Looking closer, she thought that the other person’s torch was suspiciously close to the spell caster’s flag as well.

The spell succeeds
Phylicia’s Acc ((1d20:13) + 15 = 28) v. Ami’s Eva ((1d20:5) + 14 = 19))
Phylicia succeeds at burning Ami’s flag. Ami is out and Phylicia receives a point.
Both the spell and the torch had found their mark and the two individuals were out. Pausing for a moment, Emma added their descriptions to the eliminated list, writing in very small letters to ensure there was enough space remaining. But she also added their points on the other side of her parchment, making sure that her records were updated. She was excited to see who won.Ami v. Phylicia
Ami’s Acc ((1d20:10) + 14 + 3 (Muggle Condition) = 27) v. Ami’s Eva ((1d20:8) + 9 = 17))
Ami succeeds at burning Phylicia’s flag. Phylicia is out and Ami receives a point.

This was becoming unbearably frustrating now.
Sure, his quidditch skills were coming in clutch to keep him in the game, but he STILL hadn't gotten a point.
But at the same time, Dan had to admit that dodging all these attempts on him was fun. In fact, he was even starting to get into it. Even on a broom this trash and lame, Dan was flitting about the arena dodging burning attempts left and right.
We don't talk about how he was disarmed.
But now, he had to make up for lost time. This was becoming a major issue, having 0 points, and the game ending rapidly. He needed to make a successful move and quickly.
And so, Dan went into full Quidditch mode. His depression temporarily forgotten, he intensely focused, and selected his target. This one would be a hit. It had to. He really didn't have much other option here. If this didn't hit, and he didn't get on the board, he might end up in a REALLY bad spot soon.
While this was hardly the kind of danger bludgers were, Dan still wanted to win. Sure, he was having actual fun for the first time in a while outside of muggle gaming in Dingle and Quidditch, but he still had that competitive spirit he'd always harbored.
And so, target locked, he went in for the kill. Or... went in for the flag burn.

interacts Phyllis Stanwood (@Bridget Collins)
mentions Florian LeRoy, Dan Palmer, Ami Procoppio As Maximilien "Maxi" de Fostoncy [x]
English · #586d9d | French · #056b68
Unfortunately Phyllis missed her target - Maxi caught a glimpse of the redhead managing to get near of a boy but the spell veered toward another person, and he decided to throw himself into action. Again displaying his magnificent spell work - this time with an alarming amount of confidence thanks to his success prior - Maxi controlled his broom single handed and muttered the incantation out yet again, wielding his wand in the most decisive manner. Dark grey eyes watched the flames jumping out from the tip of his trusted wand, split, and veered towards two nearest students. He hadn’t a preference when picking them as his targets, just the ones who unfortunately put themselves within his view.
This time the figures were boys’ unlike the past round, and Maxi naturally found himself less guilty about it. One of them [Florian] he recognised as a fellow Beauxbatons schoolmate whom he were not so familiar with, someone that wasn’t in the same year as him. The other [Dan] was completely unknown, a person who was disarmed prior and seemed busy retrieving his weapon. Oh, and yes, he was recognised as Phyllis’ unintentional target at the same time. Maxi’s bluebell flames made their ways towards the pair, one trapping his schoolmate’s flag perfectly (along with another person who also directed their spell this way) and the other missing its target. So yet another evade for this unknown boy, huh? Only one point instead of two, what a pity.
Slightly regretting that he accidentally picked a student that was too nimble to be targeted and thus failed to perform his extraordinary skill, Maxi held on his broom, gazing yonder. A moment of trance, and then he felt the cold flames licking his wrist. Astonished, he looked down and found his flag already gone - almost immediately his eyes went searching for the assailant, and no sooner did he locate an elder Hogwarts student [Ami]. His elimination was certainly courtesy of her, yet his points was still in lead. Landing with a soft sigh - he was a bit reluctant to leave it so soon while half of the participants were still in, yet pat of him was exceptionally glad to relax a bit from the fast-paced game.
“Get’em, Phyllis!” he called out to the sky, though the volume was definitely not loud enough to get her attention. That wasn’t his intention after all, Phyllis should be staying focused and not being disturbed. “You’ve got this.” he muttered to himself, and switched to his mother tongue without noticing. Eyes fixing on the flying little spots in the night sky, there was a moment when he forgot what his initial intentions were. To prove that the games hosted by Hogwarts planning committee was dangerous and not suitable for ball-goers of every age group, yet he now felt himself fully engaged in the game. And, perhaps, seeing the harmless bluebell flames used instead of real flames by his own eyes partially changed his mind. Just partially, he reassured himself, he was still voicing his concern regarding Hogwarts balls, which should have been fun for everybody to enjoy.
Win for yourself. He thought, dark grey eyes lingering on the Ilvermony girl (he tried hard to locate her from the ground, and let’s hope he hadn’t mistaken it). Win for us.
He did bask in it, watching the game from a distance. Phyllis managed to get near someone - he squinted his eyes in order to see more clearly, and from the silhouette he guessed that it was the elder girl [Ami] that got him out earlier. Nearer, nearer…like a flash Phyllis performed her flawless attack, flames squirting from her wand. She was speedy and quick in act, and the girl acting as the referee approached for an awarded point. Immediately starting to clap and getting ready to cheer for her success, Maxi’s brow were inquisitively raised when he noticed something else. The hunt hadn’t ended yet. Somehow the girl had managed to get rid of Phyllis’ flag at the same time, possibly happening when the two were very close. Maxi groaned under his breath.
Disappointment was now all written over his face - with Phyllis out as well, they were both eliminated. And yet he was still in lead, at least for now. What next? Someone would almost definitely stick to the very end - perhaps the student that had evaded both his and Phyllis’ attacks - and they’d win the game. How disappointing. Sort of a lost illusion, perhaps?
If Phyllis was good enough to meet him on the grounds, she would be greeted by Maxi, a not so formal but definitely genuine smile on his lips. “The game was, er,” he was about to comment on it, but it seemed that he just could not find the proper word in time. Deciding to change his topic, an inquiry would instead be made. “Did you enjoy it?”

We’ve got our winner. Even though Maximilien de Fostoncy had their flag burned, they still had the most points. Look for a small OOC prize shortly and I’ve included a description of your IC prize below as well as stickers for all the participants! I hope you enjoyed the Flying Torch Tag! You are welcome to continue posting in the thread but this is the end of the mod posts.
Emma was impressed that there were still people remaining, especially with such chaotic actions, but everyone seemed to have a good grasp and other than that one incident, there had been no cheating. She had no idea how much time had passed but knew that things would have to wrap up soon so individuals could move to the next part of the ball which she thought was the burning of the effigy, if she remembered correctly. And no one should want to miss that. It was destined to be great fun.
Looking around for the participants, Emma realized she couldn’t locate twoTrix DeLuca and Tarja Blavatsky, one being her friend, Trix, and made note to keep an eye out for them later. She was a little worried but she was sure it was nothing. Now there seemed to be only two(Dan Palmer and Ari Gwild) still in the air, at least that she could spot now, and so she moved slowly in their direction. It seemed clear that someone was going to be out soon, she felt sure. Emma watched gleefully as fireballs of doom (Credit to Dan for the wording) spat from a wand moving towards their target.
Emma was not surprised when the person’s Dan Palmer flames burned the flag of their target Ari Gwild. Glancing at her watch, she was shocked to see that more time had passed then she thought. She took a quick glance at her piece of parchment, adding the new point and newly eliminated descriptors to the list. It was clear that one person led the pack although there had been a few who had almost caught up to them. Flying down to the ground, she landed slightly roughly, stumbling before catching herself.Dan v. Ari

Dan’s Acc ((1d20:7) + 10 = 17) v. Ari’s Eva ((1d20:1) + 8 = 9))

Speaking loudly, she told the people still there, “Alright! I know not everyone’s flag was burned but we’re running out of time before the next event. I am so sorry for that. Could the person in a suit, who targeted multiple people at once step forward?” Waiting for several moments, she jerked slightly realizing she had forgotten to grab the prize. Moving towards the benches where she had placed her bag at the beginning of the games, she pulled out a bag of candy, a black cardboard crown that had been designed by the committee and a bag of stickers that she had thought would be quite funny to hand out. Moving close to the student who had won, she said “As your prize, you get this candy and a crown to show your victory. I’ve also got a sticker here for everyone who participated if you’d like one. Please make sure the brooms and torches are returned to where you found them and I’ll put them away. Thank you again for participating! I hope you enjoyed.”

Flying Torch Tag

As Akira stared at the French boy (@Starlee Kennedy as Florian LeRoy), the older boy returned his stare haughtily, as if making it clear that he wasn't going to apologize for his attitude. Well, wasn't that boy a pain. Akira narrowed his dark eyes into a glare before turning away to take his broom from Hiro, resolving to settle any ill feelings on the pitch. If he thought he was better than Akira, he might as well prove it to the Japanese boy in the air.
Once the game began, and giving himself a few moments to warm up to the rickety school broom, Akira searched the skies for his second target, looking for the boy with the haughty attitude. It didn't take long to spot the French boy with a khaki suit against the dark sky, and Akira didn't hesitate to approach, urging his broom onwards in a dive. Perhaps the broom, feeling his renewed sense of purpose, actually obeyed its master's will perfectly this time, allowing him to land close enough so that his torch would light the French boy's flag within a split second.
Akira's victory was only slightly marred by the realization that the French boy had simultaneously landed a spell on his own flag. He watched as the blue flame engulfed the flag around his waist, just as it had on his opponent's flag.
"Well played," Akira forced himself to murmur politely, fighting his natural urge to growl, swear, and fly off angrily, as his tempestuous nature would've otherwise pushed him to do. He was in the presence of foreign students and hosts, after all, and that would be no way to behave. By the looks of his casting ability, the boy was likely even his senior.
"See you at the Hexwizard Tournament next year," he said offhandedly before flying towards the grass below. This was both a statement and an invitation. Akira was confident he would make the Mahoutokoro team, and if this French boy was confident and skillful enough, perhaps he would be there, too.
His eyes skimmed the crowd -- and, not finding who he was looking for, returned his equipment and strolled towards the ball after a final 'thank you' to Miss Wynn.
Akira exits the thread.
